Priscila Helena Belpiede Simões 16 June 2010 (has links)
In a society strongly marked by the media and the changes wrought by globalization, the education sector is also undergoing profound changes and challenges. In Brazil, especially in the last 15 years, higher education experienced a period of huge expansion with the opening of educational institutions, offering courses in different modalities and the entry of a contingent of people who previously were excluded from universities. Most enrollment is concentrated in evening courses offered by private educational institutions, many of them set to large educational groups, with markedly mercantile character. This work aims to investigate the socio-economic and cultural profile of students of a higher education institution, their universe of symbolic representations, and the consumption and use they make of the media. The research wants also to evaluate the correlation between changes in social patterns of students and changes in relation to consumption of media and forms of access to information and knowledge. The questions are analyzed within the limits of a perspective which involves education-culture-communication. The case study was conducted in the Centro Universitário Radial, belonging to the group Estácio Participações. Besides using figures from the IBGE, MEC and other research centers, we apply a field survey with two procedures: a form with multiple choice questions was answered by 2263 students and we also conducted interviews, individually, with ten students. The results indicate that the students UniRadial-Estácio are clearly coming from the lower classes, living in peripheral areas of metropolitan São Paulo and reconfigure part of their identity from their entry to higher education and the symbolic value that this fact has to them and their families, especially for belonging to the first generation in their family relations, which had access to a university. They maintain a paradoxical relationship with the institution in question, which involves exchange value and utility, but is not limited in the realm of consumption. It is also a student immersed in contemporary society, marked by a strong media presence. Thus, they consume the media printed, read books, watch television, but primarily and above all use the internet as a means of communication, socialization and vehicle access to information and knowledge. Regarding the educational institution, we found that it incorporated in some ways, the use of technology and media in their teaching practice. However, this incorporation took place within a context merely operative, instrumental or so - especially when we deal with distance education via web - in a market logic. Such use leads to strong rejection among students which demonstrates that the relationship of technology or media use inside and outside of school is nothing mechanical or automatic. That is, not because the student often uses certain media, that its mere inclusion in the educational context will make it effective from the point of view of teaching and learning.

Sousa, Cidoval Morais de 25 February 2005 (has links)

The present work investigates and discusses the aspects of the construction of a dialogue involving actors from very distinct fields in a television of regional and public nature, regarding a singular project: the public communication of the science as a citizenship tool. The focus of our attention is a model of decision-taking about the construction of geoscientific news, particularly related to the environment. On one side, we analyze the particularities of the model, and, on the other, we discuss the size of that proposal and its contribution for the schedule of critical questions for the construction of a sustainable citizen society. The study concentrates mainly in guidelines meetings open for the participation of the community. The pioneering experience in broadcasting in Vale do Paraíba (São Paulo) offers arguments not only for the criticism of journalism but also to reconsider more efficient and citizen strategies of public communication of Science, mainly in the Geosciences field. On one side, our aim is to identify the actors who had participated in the meetings, the strategies used to "sell" their ideas and/or suggestions, and the profile of the presented suggestions, and, on the other side, to think over the guiding of the discussions, the aim of the negotiations and how the journalists worked with the material collected after each meeting. During the work, we try to answer to three essential questions: in what extent do strategic models as the citizen guidelines, as well as the democratic ones, contribute to schedule journalism contents of geoscientific nature on television? What type of contribution do the actors not familiar with the journalism world (community) give, mainlyas regards the environment issue (view of the values/news, world reading and nature?) And finally, do the citizen guidelines create commitments, turn audience faithful? We have observed, among other things, that the community, when called to participate in projects like the citizen guidelines, shows appreciation, has significant contributions to offer, mainly regarding contents of environment nature, however, the values/news presented in the suggestions do not differ very much from the dominant values of media, as the view of environment is a fragmented one, of an immediate kind, restricted to the local problems, but that paradoxically sees the thematic of the sustainability in a large way. The citizen guidelines arise at least three great issues: the risks of the opening of the arenas of the decisions for the scientists and journalists, what the scientist and the broadcaster role in this kind of environment is; and what type of science and communication agenda the community builds / Doutorado / Educação Aplicada as Geociencias / Doutor em Ciências

Viljoen, Gerda 28 August 2012 (has links)
D.Ed. / This research is particularly concerned with the lack of communication skills, such as reading, writing, conversing, listening, and the implementation of the language medium in an effective manner, displayed by the prospective management assistant. The management assistant is a frontline staff member, and as such should be fully competent in the aforementioned regard. Cognizance is taken of the controversy around outcomes-based education, as well as of the radical and sometimes unrealistic criticisms against this approach. For the purpose of this research and with regard to the education and training of the prospective management assistant a moderate and sober approach to curriculum renewal is advocated. The research questions hereunder formulate the problem with which the relevant study is confronted and address the issue of greater relevance regarding the education and training of the prospective management assistant. The issue of greater and more diverse skills in communication, including critically important attitudes and values not only for this particular learner, but for all people, is stressed: Which communication skills and knowledge, as well as underlying attitudes and values are demonstrated in the execution of the management assistant's task? In which way can a curriculum framework be designed to accommodate the aforesaid skills, knowledge, attitudes and values? The acquisition of skills in communication (including reading, writing, conversing and language skills) for all persons has already been addressed. The importance of communication skills for the prospective management assistant is the focus of this study.

Netshilata, Roselet Hlamalani 20 November 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Education Linguistics) / This study is an investigation of the applicability of the communicative approach to the teaching of African languages. The point of departure for this study is that the communicative approach can be implemented in order to improve students' communicative competence. Communicative competence entails grammatical, discourse, sociolinguistic, illocutionary and strategic competence. In order to determine the communicative competence, and the needs of students their essays and letters have been analysed. The study found that students' communicative competence is not so good especially in the area of discourse competence. This problem can be solved by implementing the process approach. The process approach is the most recent communicative approach which is used for teaching writing. This study shows different activities which can be practiced in order to improve communicative competence during the writing process.

The study of the initial training of French teachers in colleges of education in Nigeria

Kim, Iliya John 18 December 2015 (has links)
The study of the initial training of French teachers in colleges of education in NigeriaThe training of French teachers in colleges of education carry a real malfunction which is very worrying. For a quality education to be implemented, the need to find the cause of this malfunction is necessary. Our research allows us to identify severalcauses including: the incoherence of the curriculum which is essentially based onteaching content without any level of skill acquisition, the lack of adequate teacher training for trainers, teaching by subject, the lack of mentoring , etc.Implementation of Teacher Training Programs and revision of the curriculum is a gross need which cannot be over- emphasized as a means to achieving quality education in colleges of education. A case study of the goals of the business communication course at Technikon Witwatersrand

Vongo, Mthuthuzeli Rubin January 2006 (has links)
At Technikon Witwatersrand, Business Communication is offered as a service subject, which is compulsory for a variety of diplomas and the majority of students are obligated to do the course. Its broad intention is to assist students in developing their proficiency in English, enabling them to cope with studying at Technikon and preparing them for the workplace. Despite the fact that the course is designed to assist them, many students question why they have to do the course and whether it is simply a repetition of high school work. The study attempts to examine the implicit and explicit goals of Business Communication, to explore the process through which the goals have been developed and changed over the years (i.e. how the goals have been constructed), and to elicit and compare the perspectives of the different stakeholder groups as to the goals. Both a qualitative and a quantitative approach are used in the research design. Interviews with four fulltime lecturers were conducted and a self-designed questionnaire was administered to students. These were the main means of data collection. The data reveals that the goals of Business Communication are implied rather than explicit. Despite this, students and lecturers see the course as important. Recommendations are made to help the Department of Business Communication to reflect on their practice with particular emphasis given to material development and the application of OBE principles.

Ventura-Broncales, Carol-Cristina January 2016 (has links)
