Besluitnemingsvaardighede : 'n sielkundig-andragogiese perspektief

The adult who practises a profession, does not only fulfil the role of a professional career person, but is also full-time learner (student), homemaker and citizen. The adult tries to meet the demands of all these different roles and may at times feel unable to cope. In a situation where there is great tension or in the midst of time constraints, this may give rise to the implementation of inappropriate decision-making strategies. Inappropriate decision-making behaviour manifests itself in the inability to • recognise and define the problem • generate and evaluate alternatives • take the decision, implement it and evaluate the result An empirical investigation was undertaken to determine which decision-making strategies should be mastered by professional adults and if the andragogue should assist the adult during the execution of the decision-making process. The different factors which play a role in decision making, are also discussed. The researcher's own representation of the decision-making process is presented and this may be regarded as a summary of the literature study. This representation was also used as a framework to generate questions which were used in the questionnaire and during the interviews. The most important conclusion of the investigation is that professional adults are dependent on support during the execution and completion of the decision-making process. Decision-making conflict can be alleviated if 33 important decision-making skills are mastered. It was further concluded that there are significant differences between the decision-making abilities of the eight different occupational groups involved in this investigation, and between the decision-making abilities of male and female respondents, as well as Afrikaans and English speaking respondents. The general conclusion is that some professional adults show signs of underachievement with respect to decision making and that they are in particular dependent on guidance. The andragogue who acts as a decision-making consultant will aim to guide his colleagues who display inadequate decision-making behaviour, to form a realistic decision-making identity. Furthermore, a new and more comprehensive description of the act of decisionmaking in the Psychology of Education is suggested, aimed at contributing to the proper description of the conative act. / Psychology of Education / D. An investigation into the motivation to learn of further education training phase learners in a multicultural classroom

Bosman, Anne 02 1900 (has links)
The central theme of the research is an investigation into what motivates FET phase learners to learn. All learners are interested in learning certain things however, learners interests often do not correspond with what teachers are required to teach. Teachers are therefore constantly searching for ways to motivate learners to learn. This challenge is not easy for teachers in a culturally homogenous classroom, but becomes even greater when the classes are comprised of learners from diverse cultural backgrounds. So then how does a teacher motivate learners in general, and more specifically learners from different cultural orientations? This is a difficult question to answer but one that needs to be addressed considering the diversity of cultures found in the South African classroom. In this study an attempt is made to examine what motivates learners to learn, and the influence of culture on the motivation to learn of Further Education and Training (FET) phase learners in a multicultural classroom. Data on these two elements is collected through the use of structured questionnaires and focus group interviews and is analysed in order to answer the research question.

Hoffman, Christopher, Grönskog, Gustav January 2020 (has links)
Film-induced tourism, or film tourism, is in a simplified sense the phenomenon that occurs when a person visits a place selected by inspiration from a film/TV series. A prerequisite for film tourism is that within a film/TV series, features appear that inspires the viewer to visit either recording locations or other places associated with the film/TV series. In the study of film tourism, destination image plays a central role, which can be explained as an individual's collection of expectations, ideas, feelings, and impressions that have been built up over time for a destination. This study aims to help fill a knowledge gap that includes studies of how films or TV series with negative/controversial content affect the viewer's perceptions and mental images of a destination image. More specifically, the study will focus on the TV series Peaky Blinders and Birmingham, England. Through the theory section, a theoretical framework is established in which, among other things, it is being described how previous research have focused on film tourism, destination image, motivation, and commitment. Furthermore, a conceptual model is created that clarifies the basis of our study and which also forms the cornerstone of the research design. The study includes a quantitative approach where three hypotheses are put and then tested against the data collection, which is gathered through a digital survey where the sample consists of Peaky Blinders fans. The results show the cognitive, affective, and conative image of Birmingham found by spectators of Peaky Blinders and explains how the commitment to the TV series affects these aspects. Conclusions are drawn by accepting the hypotheses, which is that the commitment to Peaky Blinders affects the cognitive, affective, and conative image of Birmingham. / <p>2020-06-08</p>

Semiotics as a medium to convey the philosophy and psychology of evil in the Xitsonga translation of Macbeth

Ndove, Mkhancane Daniel 06 1900 (has links)
This thesis publicly displays the veracity of witchcraft and superstitious fables, which, many people believe to be irrational in nature. In this analysis, semiotics has been paraded in various versions from chapter to chapter-in order to illustrate the miscellaneous interpretations. The backbone of the investigation focuses on the philosophy and psychology of evil, a theoretical belief that is laid down by practical paradigms at the edge of each chapter. The point of departure of this investigation emanates from the Shakespearean literary work, Macbeth, which is popularly known for its inclusion of the witches in its illustration of the Scottish kingship. Therefore this thesis has adopted the practices of the witches and from there came out with what is commonly practiced by the Vatsonga people. Scotland, England, Germany and France of the 15th and 16th centuries were the countries best known as the most uncouthed centres for witchcraft and superstitions. Therefore leading stories from these European countries have made this project feasible. The study has leaked many of the unfounded stories about witchcraft and superstitions that were thought of as extraordinarily great but made real in this work. It has gone as far as windswept the kingship rites, coronation, the powers of the divine bones upon the anointed king, ritual ceremonies, causes of prosperity and failure, tales about stars, ghosts, reptiles, zombies and those hideous deeds that are not socially acceptable such as digging up of children's graves, convulsions, calling for rain, punishment meted out for a witch, prevention of adultery, changing oneself to a crocodile, rat, snake and many more stories.

Kasselman, Johanna Jacoba 06 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / It has been said that pupils are not adequately trained to think independently in the current educational system of South Africa. Therefore this research has been undertaken from a psycho-educational perspective to assess the contribution which a programme in cognitive empowerment can make towards the cognitive development and especially the general psychological development of teaching students in their final study year as potential career entrants. From this viewpoint recommendations can be made re the use of this programme in the broader educational context. In this study research has been done from a psycho-educational perspective concerning the cognitive, affective, normative and conative development of the late adolescent and the early career entrant and his/her personality in terms of this career. A group of final year teaching students, who were potential career entrants completed the Programme in Cognitive Empowerment. Before and after the presentation of this programme different media of evaluation were put into use. Based on this research, deductions have been made concerning the contribution which training in the programme has made to the development of the novice teachers. Finally, recommendations have been made concerning the implementing of such a programme. A psychological well-being profile for junior leaders in the South African National Defence Force / A psychological well-being profile for junior leaders in the SANDF

Mogale, Phillemon Matsapola January 2020 (has links)
The research focused on constructing a psychological well-being profile for flourishing practices for junior leaders by establishing the relationship between junior leaders' dispositional attributes (emotional affect, career orientations, and organisational commitment) and the flourishing attribute (positive psychological functioning). A nonprobability purposive sampling quantitative method was applied to a sample of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) personnel in Gauteng (N = 458) at junior leadership levels to explore the statistical relationship between their dispositional attributes (emotional affect, career orientations, and organisational commitment) and the flourishing attribute (positive psychological functioning) attribute. Multiple regression analyses indicated the dispositional attributes with the exception of emotional affect as significant predictors of the flourishing variable. The structural equation modelling (SEM) indicated a good fit of the data with the correlation-derived measurement model. Moderated hierarchical regression analyses indicated that age, race, gender and years of service as significant moderators of the relationship between the participants‘ dispositional attributes (emotional affect, career orientations and organisational commitment) and flourishing (positive psychological functioning) attribute. Tests for mean differences discovered that participants differed in terms of their age and race. The study made a significant contribution to the bulk of knowledge in the field of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. On a theoretical level, the study deepened the understanding of the individual and cognitive, affective, conative and relations management dimensions of the hypothesised psychological well-being profile. On an empirical level, the study developed an empirically tested psychological well-being profile that informs flourishing practices for individual junior leaders and organisational levels. On a practical level, dispositional and flourishing practices that inform the dimensions of the psychological well-being profile were recommended. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / Ph. D.
