How Can a Character's Personality be Conveyed Visually, through Shape

Ekström, Hanna January 2013 (has links)
The aim with this study was to further understand the art of character design, in order to get a better understanding of how visual attributes - especially shape - can be purposely used in order to communicate aspects of a character's personality. The first step was to investigate the subject of character design through relevant material and literature. From this investigation, a total of four character designs have been developed - two"good" and two "evil" - within two different game titles of different graphical styles: One that is more cartoony/stylized and one that is more realistic. Prior to the production a number of work processes - production pipelines - used by artists in the game and movie industry were investigated. From this, the pipeline for the study was compiled. To end the study a survey was conducted, in order to obtain outside feedback for the character designs regarding their style and what personality traits they were associated with. The results show that the majority of the participants perceived the characters in the way that was intended, while the perception of graphical style was a lot more varied.

GEOMETRISKA FORMER I KARAKTÄRSDESIGN : Geometriska formers inverkan på karaktärsroller inom MOBA-spe / GEOMETRIC SHAPES IN CHARACTERDESIGN : Geometric shapes influence on character roles in MOBA games

Falk, Emil January 2015 (has links)

Airships and angels : concept and collaboration

Pettway, Jocelyn Denise 03 February 2014 (has links)
Airships and Angels is a faux Victorian travel journal created through collaboration with Kristina Krumholt and Rudy Ramirez. Ultimately, the goal of the thesis project is to disrupt traditional hierarchical creative processes by challenging the order in which artifacts are crafted during the creation of a narrative structure and, ultimately, a performance. The end product is a leather book that is shared in the manner of rare books (by appointment and in a controlled environment) for a week, and two special two-night readings with projected imagery at the end of the week. In this process I first created concept art and the text was created afterwards by Krumholt. Once the text was complete the two artifacts were brought together and developed further. Eventually all the images were drawn and the book was printed, bound, and performed. / text

Norm-breaking form of the character role Tank : Can a game character with the mechanical properties of the role Tank be perceived differently if it has the body type that isn’t usually associated with that role?

Bagler, Oscar January 2018 (has links)

“The Escapades of Cat & Dog” The Process of Creating a Children’s Book from Start to Finish

Simmons, Cosette 01 May 2023 (has links) (PDF)
The focus of this thesis project was to learn and understand the amount of work that goes into children’s book illustration, as well as bringing the story of another’s to life. “The Escapades of Cat & Dog” was written by my grandfather, George Petrella, to tell the story of my mother and her sibling’s pets going on kooky adventures. The script was given to me back in 2017-2018 not to long after my grandmother, Jane Petrella, passed away due to cancer. The result consists of a 36 page 9 by 9 inch fully illustrated book intended to be the first in an episodic storytelling series similar to “Clifford the Big Red Dog” by Norman Bridwell. The story follows Duke, a charismatic and carefree border collie who loves to explore with his best friend Ruddy, an uptight and serious orange tabby who would rather stay indoors than exit the comfort of his home. The first half of the year consisted of brainstorming and sketching down concepts for the designs of the two characters and deciding the visual direction of the project. The second half consisted of illustrating the pages and formatting everything properly for printing. There are still a few minor things to fix but with a little more time I hope to present this book to my grandfather and work to get it published.

Zeit-Raum-Natur-Erfahrung im Werk von Richard Long

Geiseler, Marie-Louise 21 December 2004 (has links)
In my PhD.-thesis, the oeuvre of the British artist Richard Long (born 1945) is dealt with in the context of Land Art, Minimal Art and Concept Art. Additionally, the tradition of eighteenth-century landscape gardens and landscape painting is discovered as another important influence on his artistic work. After giving a detailed analysis of Long’s artistic media (photography, sculpture, maps, textworks, film) and materials (stone, wood, turf, mud, water, wind), the study concentrates on the artist’s working methods based on his personal experience of space, time and nature. Moving through nature or visiting historic sites, Long not only discovers framed vistas in his surround-ings, but also gets involved with nature’s "physiognomy". Transformation is Long’s main topic: he changes nature into art, his arrangements transforming natural materials into works of art. These visualize the transformation of things or physical states as well as the change of time (e. g. the change of speed of his own movement or astronomical events such as the turn of the year). Generally, the movement of Long’s own body is turned into sculpture when he expresses either the characteristics of certain places or his perceptions during his walks by sculpture or textworks.

Teorie hodnocení uměleckého díla / Theories of art evaluation

Neubert, Jiří January 2014 (has links)
(EN) Evaluation is an inextricable part of perceiving artworks and therefore it is necessary to study it. Evaluation is always an evaluation of something, it presupposes certain knowledge and idea of what is being evaluated. Evaluation presupposes conceptualization. If we want to say something about art or better of our experience of it and want to be understood and believed, we will need to study our conceptual equipment we use. This paper offers a conceptual minimum, being important, almost inevitable for the evaluation of art. All encounters with art are connected to the consideration of authorship. Concept of the author seems to be with the concept of art more then adherent. Nowadays authorship flounders between complete sovereignty and dissolution. There are theories of artworks, that leave or even protest against the connection between art and author. Art has a long tradition, but the contemporary notio of art is relatively young and conceptually very much laden. On the one side there is ignorance of its character, on the other there are tendencies to fix it forever. Man understanding art as an expression, perceives, looks for meaning and evaluates differently, then the one understands art as an institutinally given status. The manners of thinking art are decisive. The concept of art depends...
