Usability of Content Management Systems on touchscreen mobile devices / Innehållshanteringssystems användbarhet för mobila pekskärmsenheter

Krinaki, Maria January 2017 (has links)
Content Management Systems (CMS) can support the creation and maintenance of an e-commerce website and its content. Together with the advance of mobile technology and Internet, it is now possible for business owners to manage their online store using their mobile touchscreen devices. This thesis aims to define the usability problems of the existing CMSs when they are used on mobile touchscreen devices. Heuristic evaluation was performed in three CMSs in order to gain a better understanding of how CMS on touchscreen works and what are the major issues that could downgrade usability. Based on the results of the evaluation, a prototype was implemented and evaluated in order to find out if the design characteristics of the prototype can enhance usability. The impact of the prototype is discussed in terms of efficiency and heuristics violations. Moreover, design guidelines are suggested and uncovered usability problems for further research are provided.

Zalas, Pierre January 2017 (has links)
Open source or open source-code means that anyone can view, adjust and share the code. Companies, organizations and individuals invest their time and resources to develop open source projects, where the majority of projects doesn’t even generate any kind of financial gain. Pocketsize is a Malmö based web agency that has developed a front-end framework called Bolts as well as an automation tool called Toolbelt intended to be released as open source. This study aims to contribute knowledge of what drives small businesses, non-profit organizations or individuals to invest time and resources in developing open source projects. Therefore, a case study has been made at the web development agency Pocketsize in Malmö, where an analysis of the Bolts framework and Toolbelt automation tool that Pocketsize has developed has been conducted. In an attempt to understand why Pocketsize chooses to release them as open source. Theory and previous research presents aspects as motivational factors and driving forces behind the development of open source projects. The study has adopted a qualitative perspective where observations and semi structured interviews have been made to map action patterns and to reflect how an individual contemplates on the subject. The result states that developers often create aproduct based on their own needs and how a feeling of altruism and the willingness to “pay it forward” to the open source community are some of the major motivatiors and driving forces behind contributing to open source projects.

Utility and applicability of the sharable content object reference model (SCORM) within Navy higher education

Zacharopoulos, Ilias Z., Kohistany, Mohammad B. 06 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / This thesis critically analyzes the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) within higher education and examines SCORM's limitations within a realistic application environment versus within a theoretical/conceptual platform. The thesis also examines environments better suited for implementation of SCORM technology. In addressing the research questions, it was discovered that from the current standards set forth by Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL), SCORM is not well suited for higher education. SCORM technology will prove of greater utility within the Navy Training environment than in higher education. In their effort to share information, higher education institutions would benefit more from a Content Management System in conjunction with a Learning Management System. Subsequent chapters addressed the limitations of SCORM, provided a comparison of the applicability of SCORM within the separate domains of naval Education and Training, and provided a prototype of a Content Management System for institutions of higher learning. / Lieutenant Commander, Hellenic Navy / Lieutenant, United States Naval Reserve

Autorskoprávní aspekty tvorby webových stránek / Copyright aspects in creation of webpages

Kempa, Petr January 2018 (has links)
The topic of this Master's degree thesis is Copyright aspects in creation of webpages. The reason for this topic was especially in general economic significance of webpages in this age, which is very often without appropriate consequences in contractual practice of its creation. The author realizes that problematic of the webpages creation brings whole range of legal issues so he has to focus on creation of the one part of webpages to make beneficial academic and legal practice outcomes. Author's decision was to deal with content management system, which is in his opinion the most important part of the majority of current webpages. It was necessary to lay down an elementary terminology in the beginning of the thesis in order to comprehend all legal issues in essential technical context. Another reason is that some legal conclusions required also non-legal (technical) knowledge. Following chapter of the thesis analyzes legal nature of webpages in respect of technical context. The fourth chapter is core of the thesis and deals with analysis of content management system's legal nature as computer program and with its creation in copyright perspective. First of all this chapter provides analysis of the requirements that the computer programs have to fulfill in order to obtain the copyright protection. Moreover...

A conversational agent is able to interact with users in natural language, imitating the dialogue held between humans. However, the need for manual labor by the authors content for the construction of dialogues base makes the not too attractive to be integrated into websites. It would be possible to facility the creation of new dialogues and automate the update them using as a basis the resources provided by the Semantic Web to integrate conversational agent to a Web Content Management System (WCMS) so that you content is used. The work proposed here describes the model for use of WCMS’s information in conversational agents with semantic web aid, called Eduardo. The main difference is in automating the update of dialogues, as they are extracted from WCMS for a triple database, which are referred to generation of dialogues, if there is any update on the basis WCMS, just redo the procedures that have been automated so that the dialogues are update, thus avoiding manual labor editing of files written in AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language). It developed a prototype of this model which allows dynamic content integration with a conversational agent. The prototype was evaluated for ability to generate the information necessary for the dialogue, accessing the Web pages and their content representing in RDFa and AIML formats. In a second step, interaction assays were performed with users in the components of conversational agent to assess its functionality, acceptance and other aspects of use.

Effect Of Constructed Web-supported Instruction On Achievement Related To Educational Statistics

Emmungil, Levent 01 September 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of web supported statistics education environment for graduate level students. The aim was to develop a web support system to ease the graduate students&#039 / understanding of statistical concepts. This study also examined the perceptions of the students about web supported instruction. Although there are some studies conducted about technology aided statistics education, they are insufficient in the amount according to other areas. Besides these few studies were conducted mainly among lower grades. There is a need to find out and overcome students&rsquo / learning difficulties about statistical concepts in graduate levels. The intention of the study was to construct a web support system for traditionally offered Educational Statistics course in order to decrease both instructor and students efforts to communicate, present, reach and use the resources. The subjects of the study were 21 graduate students of Educational Statistics course offered. None of the subjects was offered an on-line course before. The study used both quantitative and qualitative measurements to analyze the effectiveness of the site and perceptions of the users. The results of the study indicated that there was an improvement in students&rsquo / achievement related to educational statistics through web supported instruction. Besides, the perceptions of the students were collected with interview questions about the functions and usability of the system. The highly positive perceptions of the students showed that, it is necessary for the students to have such a course support system. The framework was developed not only support for traditionally offered courses, but also support for lifelong learning processes. The researcher believed that the study revealed the most realistic usage pattern of a course support system. The results can be used by the instructors in order to offer the best web support system with minimum effort. Moreover, the proposed system can be used in any learning content management systems without the need for technical knowledge.

Discovering Discussion Activity Flows in an On-line Forum Using Data Mining Techniques

Hsieh, Lu-shih 22 July 2008 (has links)
In the Internet era, more and more courses are taught through a course management system (CMS) or learning management system (LMS). In an asynchronous virtual learning environment, an instructor has the need to beware the progress of discussions in forums, and may intervene if ecessary in order to facilitate students¡¦ learning. This research proposes a discussion forum activity flow tracking system, called FAFT (Forum Activity Flow Tracer), to utomatically monitor the discussion activity flow of threaded forum postings in CMS/LMS. As CMS/LMS is getting popular in facilitating learning activities, the proposedFAFT can be used to facilitate instructors to identify students¡¦ interaction types in discussion forums. FAFT adopts modern data/text mining techniques to discover the patterns of forum discussion activity flows, which can be used for instructors to facilitate the online learning activities. FAFT consists of two subsystems: activity classification (AC) and activity flow discovery (AFD). A posting can be perceived as a type of announcement, questioning, clarification, interpretation, conflict, or assertion. AC adopts a cascade model to classify various activitytypes of posts in a discussion thread. The empirical evaluation of the classified types from a repository of postings in earth science on-line courses in a senior high school shows that AC can effectively facilitate the coding rocess, and the cascade model can deal with the imbalanced distribution nature of discussion postings. AFD adopts a hidden Markov model (HMM) to discover the activity flows. A discussion activity flow can be presented as a hidden Markov model (HMM) diagram that an instructor can adopt to predict which iscussion activity flow type of a discussion thread may be followed. The empirical results of the HMM from an online forum in earth science subject in a senior high school show that FAFT can effectively predict the type of a discussion activity flow. Thus, the proposed FAFT can be embedded in a course management system to automatically predict the activity flow type of a discussion thread, and in turn reduce the teachers¡¦ loads on managing online discussion forums.

Distribution and configuration of agents for NMS in a reasonable time

Jonsson, Robin, Blixt, Simon January 2013 (has links)
With this paper we intended to simplify deployment and management of monitoring agents for a Network Monitoring System. We found interest on the subject since the time consumed to deploy and manage agents was found to be very inefficient. During a lecture with the Swedish based company Op5 AB at the Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden, we presented the complex of problem. The lecturer showed great interest in a solution on the subject and we found it to be a great thesis subject for the Bachelor degree in Computer Science. By the year of 2016 it is expected that the number of network connected devices will grow threefold, there will be four times as much IP traffic and the data storage demand will increase tenfold. [8] This growing demand will also affect the requirement on the Network Monitoring System and in turn the monitoring agents. In this paper we created a baseline, which consisted of a timing regarding the time consumption for manual deployment, configuration and management of the monitoring agents. We also developed an automated way for deployment, configuration and management of monitoring agents by integrating a Content Management Software called Puppet, combined with several scripts. To simplify the management and deployment furthermore a widget was developed for Op5’s Web based User Interface called Ninja. The developed solution was measured against the baseline and a result regarding time consumption was presented. The result fell into a discussion on the subject of automatization and the time savings that it may result in due to less frequent human errors and a less repetitive work processes.

High school eLearning : an investigation into the desirable and workable features of an Internet eLearning resource to sustain high school learning communities

Cronje, Johannes Christoffel 29 July 2008 (has links)
eLearning is rapidly spreading into the high school learning environment. This research attempts to find desirable and workable features of an eLearning resource that would sustain high school learning communities. The basis of the instrumental case study was the Cambridge International Examination course offered by an eLearning institution over a period of two and a half years. Data was gathered by means of various questionnaires, focus groups, interviews and quantitative analysis of computer log files of activity. Content analysis was performed by comparing research data with information (such as various eLearning models) obtained from the literature review. Similarities and differences were found in the way eLearning is used by high school learners and teachers versus university students and lecturers. Desirable and workable features were identified and the reasons for these explored. A number of suggestions are made that would contribute to sustaining eLearning for high school learners. / Thesis (DPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Information Science / unrestricted
