From dishwashers to Ferrari : How Loccioni successfully utilized their dominant logic and core competencies

Nordberg, Linus, Enbom, Nils January 2022 (has links)
The world is facing an unprecedented global environmental disaster. CO2 is currently the largest contributor to global warming and a large part of global emissions come from the automotive industry. The Paris agreement as well as policies and governmental decisions are forcing car manufacturers to transition from internal combustion engines to electric motors. This has led to difficulties for organizations throughout the value chain whose products or services become obsolete. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how a small company called Loccioni managed to use their competencies to grow during this radical industrial transformation. To answer the research question, data was collected using semi structured interviews as well as a period of ethnography.  Results from this case study show that the values and mental models of Enrico and Graziella Loccioni developed over time into a dominant logic which they constantly adapted to changes in the external environment. By following their dominant logic, the company developed their core competencies. Focusing on having strategically similar businesses allowed them to use their competencies transversally throughout different business areas. By realizing what competencies they had, they could move swiftly from working with internal combustion engines to electric motors. Loccioni has also worked hard to develop their customer relationships, which allowed them to work with the same customers in different business areas. Having high trust with their customers also allowed them to work with open innovation and co-create with customers who had cutting edge knowledge in different parts of the e-Mobility business area. This enabled Loccioni to quickly develop their competencies in relatively unknown areas.

Competencies as a predictor of work performance for branch managers in a banking institution

Pema-Mistry, Deepa January 1900 (has links)
An essential blend between competencies, personality and skill is sought after for successful branch managers in today’s banking world in order to achieve a high level of quality, on-time delivery, as well as customer and employee satisfaction and loyalty. In this study the predictive relationship between competencies (as a portrayal of personality and abilities) and work performance was investigated among the branch managers. The scores on the essential Universal Competency Framework competencies, the Person- Job Match and performance data for three years were used to conduct correlation and regression analyses. The study was conducted among 95 branch managers at a banking institution in South Africa. A theoretical relationship was determined, and this was supported by the significant relationship that was evident between the identified essential competencies of the branch managers and their work performance. The regression model summary indicated significance when using all essential competencies combined against the overall criterion score. / Industrial & Organisational Psychology / M.A. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology)

Core Leader Competencies for Implementing Sustainability Strategies in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

Jackson, Alan William 01 January 2016 (has links)
Because small- and medium-sized enterprises contribute as much as 70% of the world's pollution, small-business leaders need to develop and implement strategic approaches to sustainable development. Global sustainable development spending may reach $5 trillion by 2030. Guided by leadership competency theory, this qualitative multiple case study explored the core competencies of 5 independent small business leaders who had successfully implemented environmentally sustainable initiatives in their manufacturing firms in eastern Nebraska. Interviews and company planning documents including strategic business plans were gathered, coded, and cross-case analyzed, and member checking was periodically conducted to strengthen the trustworthiness of interpretations. Thematic analysis identified 6 themes: industry knowledge, decision making, strategy and planning, environmental sustainability knowledge, communication and interpersonal skills, and passion and commitment. The implications for positive social change include the potential for enabling small to medium business leaders to develop environmentally sustainable strategies that could contribute to an increased focus on environmentally sustainable actions leading to reduced pollution and more socially responsible communities.

The Core Competencies Necessary for Global Information Technology Project Management

Von Schleh, Gregory Michael 01 January 2017 (has links)
Global information technology (IT) project management organizations can create more value in their operations by presenting the core competencies possessed by global IT project managers (PMs) who are successful in their respective projects. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore the core competencies and business strategies that IT PMs use to meet global IT project deadlines and budgets. This study involved 5 IT PMs from the Pacific Northwest (United States and Canada) who increased the quality of outsourced IT projects from 4 different companies. The data collection method included in-person semistructured interviews of participants and review of existing company data. Thematic analysis of data included the use of member checking to ensure that the results of this study accurately reflected the experiences of the participants. The conceptual framework that guided the research was organizational learning theory. Two major themes were uncovered during data analysis; the first was global IT project management barriers and reasons for failure, and the second was competencies and strategies for successful global IT project management. Additionally, 4 subthemes were identified: lack of communication and quality, issues with culture and time, mindful of cost and coordination, and cultural awareness and communication. This study shows how successful IT projects benefit organizations and society with better products and services at lower costs. The findings may assist IT PMs in applying core competencies and business strategies to manage global IT projects to meet project deadlines and proposed budgets, which may, in turn, help companies contribute to corporate social responsibility efforts through improvements in ethical standards and international norms.

Recursos e competências estratégicas de uma empresa familiar centenária : estudo de caso na casa Magnabosco sob a ótica da visão baseada em recursos

Furlan, Juliana 24 May 2017 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2017-09-19T17:59:19Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Juliana Furlan.pdf: 1503411 bytes, checksum: 1b8a3ca32951e548906f3491b9aa57cf (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-09-19T17:59:19Z (GMT). PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF CORE COMPETENCIES AND USE OF INPLACE SOFTWARE IN THE FACILITATION OF COMPETENCE-BASED LEARNING

Arinze, Chika Amanda January 2021 (has links)
Objective: The future of public health in Canada depends on the competence of today’s public health students. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) core competence categories are designed to guide public health practice and the training of public health students. The objectives of this study were to understand public health graduate students’ perception of the PHAC core competencies and report the usability of a practicum placement software in the facilitation of competence-based learning. Methods: Twelve students in the first year of the graduate program in public health participated in two focus group sessions. Participants were asked to select their top and least desired PHAC competencies and then discuss the reasons for their selection. Factors that may have influenced the category selection and their opinion on improving the competence categories were discussed. The system usability scale (SUS) was administered to the student participants and two staff members to help understand the usability of the practicum placement software in the facilitation of competence-based learning. Results: Partnership, collaboration, and advocacy emerged as the top-desired, with public health sciences being the second top-desired. The assessment and analysis category was the least desired, followed by the Leadership competence category. Prior educational background, future career goals with respect to job prospects were among the key factors that influenced the students’ competence selection. Conflict resolution, outreach, and community engagement were some of the suggestions of categories that could be included in the core competence categories. The system usability score for InPlace platform was 61.8 (95% 56.7- 66.9). Conclusions: Overall, students believe that the PHAC core competencies are comprehensive. They suggested seeing certain terminologies become a prominent part of the competence categories. The use of InPlace platform in the facilitation of competence-based learning may require more time for adequate user experience. / Thesis / Master of Public Health (MPH)
