In order to encourage research in this field, the objective of this study consisted on analyzing debt constraint factors. Accordingly, a theoretical framework was presented and a structural model of debt propensity, along with its antecedents found in the literature, specially the international one, was elaborated. Attitude towards money, attitude towards credit card, self control, compulsive buying, impulsive buying and debt propensity were the constructs analyzed in this research. As being a quantitative study, descriptive statistical analysis, psychometric analysis and multivariate analysis of structural equation modeling (SEM) were performed. The study s sample was constituted by 301 respondents, questionnaires were administered online using googledocs and its disclosure was made through e-mailing and social networks. Results show that there is a direct relation between self control and impulsive buying, and that power-prestige pursuit influence compulsive buying. The hypothesis concerning the direct influence of credit card attitude and consumer debt propensity was accepted. A need for marketing actions aiming to comprehend and help consumers to better understand credit card usage and rules was identified. For doing so, we present methodologies based on the techniques of logistical regression and survival analysis. Such tools are capable of foreseeing the behavior of customers, and thus focus on certain strategies in order to place resources that may hinder their migration to other financial institutions. The use of survival analysis methods makes it possible to analyze which variant presents evidence of customer migration; the logistical regression technique will be used in order to compare and validate the models hereby proposed, besides showing whether there are other variants that also demonstrate the closing of credit card accounts by the customers.

Využití zobecněného lineárního modelu k analýze splácení retailových úvěrů / Retail loan repayment analysis using generalized linear models

Šolc, Michal January 2009 (has links)
This Diploma thesis concern with generalized linear models and their application in bank practice. Especially to analyze retail loan repayment. First of all we see into theoretical viewpoint of generalized linear models. We shortly try to summarize problems of clasical linear model restrictions and after that we apply to theory on which generalized models are based. We introduce an overview of generalized linear models and after that we concern models, where dependent variable have multinomial and gamma distribution in detail. Main part this thesis is dedicated to data analysis about bank retail loans repayments. In this analysis we use those early mentioned models. We try to create good statistical models on which base the risk ratio of current bank clients could be predicted. The risk ratio is measured by two main indicators, which are: "overdue time" and "overdue amount". For analysis is used statistical software SAS.

Um processo para modelagem e aplicação de técnicas computacionais para detecção de fraudes em transações eletrônicas / A process for modeling and application of computational techniques for fraud detection in electronic transactions

Gabriel Preti Santiago 08 May 2014 (has links)
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the volume of electronic transactions in the Web. This growth in trading volume, associated with the risks caused by the absence of basic checks, possible only in transactions of the physical world, has attracted the attention of people with the intention of taking advantage to obtain illicit financial benefits. Due to the injuries caused by fraud, online payment service companies emerged, with the goal of making Web transactions safer. These companies act as an intermediary between buyers and sellers, assuming all the risks, and so it is clear that it is a high-risk business. Given the high volume of transactions with which these companies must deal, it is clear the need for computational methods for detecting fraudulent transactions, as the strict use of manual checks is infeasible to handle such a volume. The task of analysis and identification of fraudulent transactions can be seen as a classification problem, and so classification, data mining and machine learning techniques can be applied to it. However, given the complexity of the problem, the application of computational techniques is only possible after a thorough understanding of the problem and the definition of an efficient model, associated with a consistent and comprehensive process which would be able to handle all the steps needed to analyze a transaction in an efficient way. Given this scenario, this work proposes a comprehensive approach to address the problem of fraud in this new business of online payment intermediation, using as basis a process already established in the industry. We will discuss more specifically one of the phases of this process, which refers to the use of computational tools to detect frauds, and we will present a sub-process using several tools to deal with the problem from a computational point of view. To validate our results, we will use a huge amount of real data provided by an important company of the online payment industry, which cooperated with our research.

Explainable AI methods for credit card fraud detection : Evaluation of LIME and SHAP through a User Study

Ji, Yingchao January 2021 (has links)
In the past few years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved into a powerful tool applied in multi-disciplinary fields to resolve sophisticated problems. As AI becomes more powerful and ubiquitous, oftentimes the AI methods also become opaque, which might lead to trust issues for the users of the AI systems as well as fail to meet the legal requirements of AI transparency. In this report, the possibility of making a credit-card fraud detection support system explainable to users is investigated through a quantitative survey. A publicly available credit card dataset was used. Deep Learning and Random Forest were the two Machine Learning (ML) methodsimplemented and applied on the credit card fraud dataset, and the performance of their results was evaluated in terms of their accuracy, recall, sufficiency, and F1 score. After that, two explainable AI (XAI) methods - SHAP (Shapley Additive Explanations) and LIME (Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations) were implemented and applied to the results obtained from these two ML methods. Finally, the XAI results were evaluated through a quantitative survey. The results from the survey revealed that the XAI explanations can slightly increase the users' impression of the system's ability to reason and LIME had a slight advantage over SHAP in terms of explainability. Further investigation of visualizing data pre-processing and the training process is suggested to offer deep explanations for users.

Identifying Potential Applications for Lamina Emergent Mechanisms and Evaluating Their Suitability for Credit-Card-Sized Products

Albrechtsen, Nathan Bryce 09 December 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Lamina emergent mechanisms (LEMs) are a maturing technology that is prepared for commercial implementation into new products. LEMs are defined by three functional characteristics; they (1) are compliant, (2) are fabricated from planar materials, and (3) emerge from a flat initial state. Advantages, design challenges, and design tools are described for each of the functional characteristics. Opportunities for LEMs are discussed, namely disposable LEMs, novel arrays of LEMs, scaled LEMs, LEMs with surprising motion, shock absorbing LEMs, and deployable LEMs. Technology push product development processes were employed to select applications for LEMs. LEM technology was characterized. In a LEM workshop, eighteen industry professionals then helped identify over 200 potential applications for the technology. The applications were evaluated, and the most promising ideas that were identified for each LEM opportunity are described with graphics of possible product embodiments. Of the various product opportunities enabled by LEMs, deployable mechanisms – particularly in the credit card size – are among the most viable. The compactness and portability of credit-card-sized products create a strong motivation for their development. Expanding the capabilities of credit-card-sized mechanisms to include more sophisticated motions and a broader range of tasks may dramatically increase their market potential. A review of the current state-of-the-art in credit-card-sized mechanisms reveals two primary classes of mechanisms most commonly used in this form factor: rigid-body mechanisms and in-plane compliant mechanisms. The limitations of each and corresponding LEM advantages are described. Criteria for determining whether a product is a suitable candidate for using LEM technology to create or improve a credit-card-sized product are established. The advantages of LEMs in credit-card-sized products are illustrated through an example product: a compact lancing device that could be used as a main component for a highly portable epinephrine syringe.
