Os impactos da revolução cubana na política externa brasileira (1958 1961) / The impacts of Cuba revolution at the brazilian foreign policy (1958 - 1961)

Vitor Bemvindo 20 July 2009 (has links)
The Cuban Revolution was the most important inter-American relations in the 20th Century. It was responsible for breaking the homogeneity of American society, introducing, on the continent, tensions typical of the Cold War. The Cuban revolutionary process has forced the United States to revise its policy for Latin America that, between the 1940s and 1950, involved the subcontinent as a secondary area. The Revolution in the Caribbean also had direct impacts on the formulation of Brazilian foreign policy. During the Juscelino Kubitschek government, Pan American Operation provided an integration plan with the objective to eliminate underdevelopment. The rejection of the initiative by the Cuban government, was one of the determinants for the abandonment of the operation. The subsequent administration, of President Jânio Quadros, was responsible for a major overhaul in diplomacy in Brazil. The independent foreign policy included the defense of self-determination and non-intervention in internal affairs, which, applied to the Cuban case, were seen by the conservative sectors to support a socialist regime. The decoration of the revolutionary leader Ernesto Che Guevara and the opposition to the principles of Brazilian independent foreign policy were factors that led to the resignation of Brazilian president.

The main objective of the present thesis is to analyze the relationships between the Brazilian communist leftist movements and the Cuban revolution between 1959 and 1974. We aim at understanding how far that revolution influenced the ideological debate of the Brazilian communists and the consequences for its theoretical formulations and the political practice. The general conclusion is that the Cuban revolutionary process was mainly present in the debate on the definition of the armed resistance to the military dictatorship and the adoption of socialism by a part of that leftist movement. It was further important during the crisis that took place after 1964 among those organizations that had existed before the military coup, which then fragmented and gave birth to several groups of the Revolutionary Left / Doutorado / Historia Social / Doutor em História

Our research theme was the use of cinema in the classroom as a didactic aid working in specific the history of Che Guevara, showing how his history is inserted in two textbooks - in specific - and still in the biographies of Jorge Castañeda - "Che Guevara: Life in Red "(2006) and Jon Lee Anderson -" Che Guevara: A Biography "(1997). Our general objective will be to change the teaching of History, thinking how the images and the films can bring a different perception of the history of Che Guevara and also, in a more complex field, the History of the Cuban Revolution. One of the main problems that emerged during our research can be explained by the following question: how can the history teacher teach the context of the Cuban Revolution through the images of Che Guevara and the proposed films? It is worth mentioning that the films to be worked on in our research were "Che Guevara - The Argentine" and "Che Guevara - The Guerrilla" both directed by Steven Soderbergh of the year 2008. The various faces of Che Guevara allows us to question the character, Allowing us to present a more collective story. Several constructions were made regarding Che Guevara, now being presented as a hero and now as a homicide. It should be noted that there are some appropriations from both the right and the left that contribute to the construction of these various faces. From then on, the teacher will introduce students to the various ways of understanding History as well as making the student realize that he is also a builder of history.

A resignação de Sísifo: tradição, cultura política e história na obra do moderno vetusto Alejo Carpentier (1928-1980) / The resignation of Sisifo: tradition, political culture and history in the work of the modern Alejo Carpentier (1928-1980)

Eduardo Ferraz Felippe 28 February 2013 (has links)
The issue of this thesis is the relation amid tradition, political culture and history in the work of Alejo Carpentier (1928-1980) to understand his way to ancient. This proposal reassesses the dialogue between the aesthetic avant-garde European writers and Latin American manifestations. My main assertation is that Carpentiers negative appraisals by the avant-garde were the product of Rite of his name as intellectual and the distance of his work on the belongings of modernity, like a radio. Two faces on the same coin have been left behind a work linked to the modernity mainly connected to the present and the constitution of an intellectual latin-american web. By the annalisys of the work and the European and latin-american context, this work underlines that the concept of formation emphatizes an intellectual path that was opposed to the patterns of perception and representation legacy by the surrealism. Meanwhile, the different forms of lecture of classical tradition with the myths of Sisifo and Adam who praised the authentic writing on its own, although it maintains the artificiality of surrealism.

(D)écrire La Havane : les représentations de la ville dans la littérature cubaine de fiction (XIXe-XXIe siècles) / Writing Havana : representations of the city in cuban fictions (19th to 21th centuries)

Le Naour, Nelly 06 September 2014 (has links)
The object of this study is to present a diachronic analysis of the descriptions of Havana in Cuban literature. We have defined the city's status as a narrative object among Cuban novels and short stories from the 19th century to the present day. Central to the national literature, the Cuban capital city had gradually been endowed with multiple functions and representations, which vary depending on the aesthetic viewpoints or descriptive stances adopted by different authors. Our project consists not only in analysing the ever-changing physiognomy of this particular urban landscape within the scope of our corpus, but also in drawing bridges between different eras in order to outline the dialectic dynamics which exist between these stories. By paying close attention to the characteristics of literary Havana, we have begun assembling the pieces of a puzzle that is still in the making, thus reflecting the kaleidoscopic image of a city which has become a literary landscape. Used as the frame of reference for a precise geographical and socio-historical reality, the Havana of Cuban fictions also bears a strong and complex symbolic quality. As the object of these writings, it is also a poetic space which, by detaching itself from its actual referent, creates a multiplicity of imaginary urban landscapes.

An Alternative Narrative of Integration In Germany through an Ethnographic Exploration of Cuban Immigration

Rusch, Ana M 04 October 2018 (has links)
This ethnographic study on Cuban immigrants conducted in Germany explored the dynamics of integration through an understudied immigrant population. Most of the research conducted on integration in Germany has overwhelmingly been on Turkish immigrants, which is Germany’s majority immigrant group. To contribute to Integration Studies, this research focused on a minority and lesser studied immigrant group, Cuban immigrants. Cuban immigrants in Germany not only have a different historical and geopolitical relationship with Germany than its majority group but they also subscribe to different cultural and ethnoreligious categories. Because of these varying circumstances, Cubans act as a counter example to the majority immigrant group, creating an alternative narrative to integration in Germany. This dissertation addressed the methodology used in this study, explored the complexity of identity, examined German immigration and integration policies, reviewed the Cuban diaspora in the United States and globally, and presented an ethnography of Cuban integration in Germany. Effectively contributing to not only Integration Studies but also to Cuban Diaspora Studies, and Identity Studies.

Zahraniční politika Spojených států amerických vůči Kubě v letech 1958 - 1965 / U. S. Foreign Policy Towards Cuba 1958-1965

Fiala, Jaroslav January 2015 (has links)
The thesis deals with the U.S. foreign policy towards Cuba in the years 1958-1965. It analyses sources of U.S.-Cuban hostility at the beginning of the Fidel Castro era. It shows, how the U.S. foreign policy and the beginning of Cold war contributed to polarization as well as radicalization of politics in Cuba. Thus, it analyses the change of a local conflict into the "international civil war". The aim of the thesis is to argue that Cuba influenced the global balance of power between the Soviet Union and the United States at the beginning of 1960's. The introductory chapters summarize the causes of the Cuban Revolution, the U.S. policy toward friendly dictators, mainly toward Fulgencio Batista in Cuba. Next part deals with the guerilla warfare against Batista and the extent of U.S. influence on this insurrection. The thesis uses a multi-archival research of the U.S. as well as Czech and British sources. The comparison of sources shows the extent of independent Cuban actions and helps to comprehend the logic of the Eastern-European foreign policy. The thesis further analyses the U.S. reaction on Cuban Revolution as well as causes and consequences of the Cuban Missile crisis. Moreover, it deals with the possibilities of improvement in the U.S.-Cuban relations. Last but not least it also analyses the...

Vztahy československého a kubánského filmového průmyslu v šedesátých letech / Czechoslovak-Cuban Cinematic Cooperation in the 1960s

Matušková, Magdaléna January 2017 (has links)
The study analyzes the largely understudied cinematic cooperation between Czechoslovakia and Cuba in the first decade following the Cuban Revolution. It is based mostly on archival documents from the former Central Directorship of Czechoslovak State Film, the ministry of education and culture and the ministry of foreign affairs. Several chapters also draw from oral history, data collected from series of interviews with Cuban technicians and artists who have worked in Cuban cinema since the 1960s as well as Czechoslovak experts who worked at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industries in the 1960s. The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (CICAI), founded in March 1959 shortly after the triumph of the Revolution, faced a shortage of human and material resources since its inception. The film industry, which had been mostly in the hands of the Americans before 1959, lost much personnel due to mass emigration. Later on, due to the American blockade and embargo, it also lost its most important provider of films, material and equipment. The majority of CICAI's technician and artists were just starting and were lacking in technical knowledge required to make films. Czechoslovak State Film (CSF) offered extensive help to Cuban cinema, especially in the area of developing the...

Dispersal and Management of Invasive Aquatic Plants in Mississippi Waterways

Fernandez, Amanda Louise 14 December 2013 (has links)
To understand the flow of water as a factor that influences aquatic vegetation communities and aquatic plant dispersal, custom-made Global Positioning System (GPS) drones were used to monitor the movement of water in Aliceville Lake, Columbus Lake, and Ross Barnett Reservoir, MS. In each reservoir, the drones drifted in the wind-generated surface current. Analysis of wind speeds suggests that a certain wind speed may be necessary to overcome gradient flow. Wind direction and wind speed should be incorporated in future spatial simulation models for aquatic plant dispersal and distribution. An herbicide evaluation on Cuban bulrush (Oxycaryum cubenese) was conducted to determine what herbicides would effectively control the invasive species. Applications made prelowering were more successful than postlowering applications for all herbicides tested with glyphosate, 2,4-D, triclopyr, diquat, imazamox, and imazapyr resulting in 100% mean biomass reduction. For postlowering applications, glyphosate, triclopyr, and diquat are recommended.
