Kulturní rozdíly ve webdesignu / Cultural Differences in Webdesign

This paper deals with theory of cultural differences, specifically cultural differences in web design. This paper aims at websites of investment promotional agencies (IPAs) and its target is to find out whether IPA's websites reflect national culture of representing country, so there is a kind of cultural divergence, or if cultural convergence prevails. The research is based on assumptions and theories of Dutch scientist Geert Hofstede and content analysis is used as a research method. The results imply cultural convergence among websites of IPAs and at the same time influence of Western countries is noticeable. This master's thesis deals with the encounter of two cultures - Czech and French, and its goal is to "identify Czech-French cultural standards and draw practical advice and recommendations for communication and cooperation." The first chapter explains the most important terms affecting the subject in theory. The next chapter introduces France and applies the foundations created in the previous chapter. The third and fourth chapters are devoted to my own research, which was carried out by using the methods of critical situations and is based on in-depth interviews with members of both cultures. Their testimonies are then used to establish standards, the main points in which the Czechs and French differ and to make advice on how to work with these differences.

In the theoretical part of the master thesis are basic definitions related to the culture, cultural differences and approaches to measuring them. The key method in measuring cultural differences is the Hofstede's 5-dimensional model which is the basis for the further processing of secondary data from the Mindreader study. The goal of this work is to analyze how culture affects people's concerns regardless of how these are concerns affected by technology. The countries involved in the cultural analysis are divided into four groups according to indexes achieved in various dimensions. For each of the dimensions, there are hypotheses that are tested by Pearson´s statistical test of independence. The same statistical procedures are used for selected technologies and their impact on the life concerns.

Inledning: Sverige är ett mångkulturellt samhälle. Psykisk ohälsa är vanligare bland utrikes födda. För att kunna möta dessa patienter från andra kulturer på deras villkor finns ett behov av ökad kultur- och omvärldskunskap bland terapeuter. Studier inom ämnesområdet mångkultur och psykoterapi kan bidra med värdefull kunskap som ökar kulturkompetens och kulturell sensibilitet hos såväl terapeuter som tolkar och därmed leder till mer framgångsrik behandling av psykisk ohälsa bland utrikes födda. Frågeställningar: Syftet var att göra en explorativ studie av kulturmöte mellan terapeut och patient i terapirummet, med frågeställningen: Vilka upplevelser har psykologer/psykoterapeuter samt tolkar av mötet mellan svenska psykologer/psykoterapeuter och patienter från persiska och arabiska kulturer i psykoterapi? Metod: Fyra legitimerade psykologer/psykoterapeuter samt fyra auktoriserade tolkar ingick i två fokusgrupper. Data analyserades och tolkades utifrån induktiv tematisk analys. Resultat: De kulturella skillnaderna mellan svenska terapeuter och persiska och arabiska patienter som såväl psykologer/psykoterapeuter som tolkar hade erfarenhet av var: att psykisk ohälsa är stigmatiserat och att söka hjälp kan vara skambelagt; att kön har betydelse; att patienter mer ofta är multitraumatiserade och har andra känslouttryck; att tillit är avgörande; att terapeuter har begränsad kultursensibilitet och att psykoterapi är sammanlänkat med en västerländsk kultur. Diskussion: Resultatet diskuterades utifrån tidigare forskning och teoretikers tankar om mångkultur och psykoterapi – och stämde väl överens med dessa. Den terapeutiska alliansen diskuterades, både dess betydelse och de hinder som identifierades i studien. Förslag på att terapeuten öppet talar om kulturskillnader med patienten; att terapeut och tolk samarbetar och att ha separat ingång/väntrum var exempel på åtgärder som föreslogs för att minska kulturella skillnaders betydelse i psykoterapi. / Introduction: Sweden is a multicultural society. Mental illness is more common among foreign-born. In order to be able to meet these patients from other cultures on their terms, there is a need for increasing cultural and international knowledge among therapists. Studies in the field of multiculturalism and psychotherapy can contribute with valuable knowledge that increases cultural competence and cultural sensitivity of both therapists and interpreters and thus leads to more successful treatment of mental ill health among foreign born. Question formulation: The purpose was to do an explorative study of cultural meeting between therapist and patient in the therapy room, with the question: What experiences do psychologists/psychologists and interpreters of the meeting between Swedish psychologists/psychotherapists and patients from Persian and Arab cultures in psychotherapy Method: The study had a qualitative research approach. Four legitimate psychologists/psychotherapists as well as four authorized interpreters were included in two focus groups. Data were analyzed and interpreted based on inductive thematic analysis. Results: The cultural differences between Swedish therapists and Persian and Arab patients who both psychologists/psychotherapists and interpreters had experience of were: that mental illness is stigmatized and seeking help can be shameful; that gender is important; that patients are more often multi-traumatized and have other emotional expressions; trust is crucial; that therapists have limited cultural awareness and that psychotherapy is linked to a Western culture. Discussion: The results were discussed based on previous research and theorists' thoughts on multiculturalism and psychotherapy - and were in good agreement with these. The therapeutic alliance was discussed, both its significance and the barriers identified in the study. Suggestion that the therapist openly discuss cultural differences with the patient; that the therapist and interpreter cooperate and have separate entrance/waiting rooms were examples of measures that were proposed to reduce the importance of cultural differences in psychotherapy.

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of interpreting in Namibia both during its existence as a German colony and its post-colonial era. In 1884 the territory of present-day Namibia became a colony called German South West Africa. Among the problems encountered by the colonizers were the linguistic and cultural differences that made communication between the Germans and the locals complicated and, at times, even impossible. Due to their ambivalent role, interpreters were treated with a lot of mistrust and the clients suspected them of twisting the intended information in favour of one of the parties. Although the Colonial Administration emphasised language training for both negotiating parties, at the end, this approach turned out to be too ambitious, and it proved necessary to use interpreting services, especially in the areas of law, religion and diplomacy. This paper explores the role, status, working conditions and competences of interpreters in these areas. Many of the findings are partly intertwined with modern interpretation theory and practice, making it possible to apply some of the crucial theoretic claims on Namibia's colonial era. Beyond Modernity and Tradition: digital spaces for Sexuality Education in Kenya

The thesis carries out a critical examination of the problematic and complex dynamics aroused by the conceptual gap between the Modernity and Tradition, suggesting that such polarization is present in the way people think and talk about sex and sexuality in Kenya. Considering the difficulties of implementing Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Kenyan secondary schools, the study questions the possibility of isolating and distancing different sexual values and attitudes, and supports instead the need for a different approach to teaching sexuality, capable of bridging those differences through an inclusive language. Digital Platforms are critically examined as potential spaces for the realization of the theoretical project of an “Ecology of knowledges”, thus as places for developing respectful and comprehensive dialogue about sexuality among adolescents.

The authors found that individuals' cultural background can in some cases have an impact on their attitude towards UX and UI on food ordering applications. The study's conclusion covered the themes; simplicity, information, experience and aesthetic. As a result, the study could be interpreted as potential guidelines to improve companies' applications and potentially attract a wider target group.

Identity: Moving and Living Abroad - A qualitative interview study of Afghan female immigrants who moved to Sweden during 2015-2016

This thesis investigates Afghan female immigrants’ experiences of their adaptation process in Sweden. It also examines whether gender identity alters among these Afghan women. The study was conducted through a qualitative research approach based on six semi-structured interviews, with its data being analyzed by thematic analysis. The thematic analysis presented the result on the basis of four themes; identity, social relations, cultural differences and the migration process. Further, the results show that most respondents were affected by migration, that they were influenced by social relations and that they experienced cultural differences in Sweden compared to Afghanistan.

A Phenomenological Study of Nurse Administrators: Leading the Multigenerational Workforce of Registered Nurses

Nurse shortages and nurse turnover are major issues in the health care industry. As 4 generations of nurses are working side by side for the first time in history in the health care industry, nurse leaders need to understand the generational differences in order to bridge the gap on retaining the nurses in the workforce. The primary focus of this applied dissertation study was to explore and obtain the lived experiences of leading the nursing intergenerational cohorts, as well as the strategies that nurse leaders or nurse managers can utilize to meritoriously attract, retain, and motivate the generational nursing workforce. The Leadership Questionnaire, designed in 2008 by Dr. Nelson, was utilized to interview 5 nurse administrators of the phenomenon to comprehend how the health care nurse administrators can utilize productive techniques of leading the nursing generational cohorts. The target population was members of a professional long-term care association. Once the nurse administrators agreed to participate on the study and signed the consent form, the researcher scheduled an initial 45-minute interview of three 15- to 30-minute interviews over a 3-month period. The data collected as a result of this study revealed findings: (a) the intergenerational educational gap in the nursing workforce, (b) the needs of the intergenerational nurses, (c) the critical aspect of continuing of professional education training development for the nurses, and (d) the critical leadership values on leading the intergenerational nursing cohorts. This applied research study dissertation intended to assist nurse leaders to reframe perceptions regarding the nurses’ intergenerational group (e.g., Baby Boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y) differences and to view these differences in attitudes and behaviors as potential strengths.

This applied dissertation was designed to provide new knowledge that will add to the field of speech-language pathology in both practice and theory. Investigating the need for cultural competency training for Speech-language pathology (SLP) supervisors can offer future supervisors improved relationships with graduate students. Currently, no formal training exists to address cultural diversity sensitivity at the supervisory level. The data were gathered by utilizing an online survey to receive responses from SLP supervisors to ascertain their cultural diversity and sensitivity. The study results were determined by using a t-test and exploratory factor analysis to examine if a need for cultural diversity training existed in the SLP field for speech-language pathologists in the United States. The researcher used a survey targeting SLP supervisors regarding their experiences with working with culturally diverse graduate students. The survey utilized a 5-point Likert scale to ascertain the supervisory experiences of SLPs. The intent of the survey was to ascertain the thoughts and beliefs of SLP supervisors who have had experience with graduate students with diverse backgrounds. Results of the study revealed that SLP supervisors have limited experiences with cultural diversity training as it specifically pertains to supervision of culturally diverse graduate students.
