The cross of Christ in the tension between gospel and culture : interpretations of the cross within the context of Bosch's paradigm shift theory / Kreuz Christi im Spannungsfeld von kultur und Evangelium : Deutungen des kreuzes im Rahmen der Paradigmenwechselttheorie von Bosch

Reitz, Christiane 25 July 2014 (has links)
In this research study, the correlation between culture and gospel is investigated by examining changes in the interpretation of the cross of Christ from Early Christianity up to present times, using the method of paradigmatic analysis designed by David J. Bosch. Following the concept of the Missio Dei within mission theology, this study aims to find a perspective on the event of the cross which is relevant for today's practice. With reference to the topics of cultural context, sin, sacrifice, vicariousness, cross and mission, this study shows that in every paradigm the diverse perspectives of the interpretation of Jesus' death were explicable and helpful within their relevant contexts. It can also be seen that in its objectives, message and practice, mission correlates with the respective motifs prevalent at the time. In conclusion, after determining the proper place of the results within the concept of Missio Dei in mission theology, the study examines the relevance of these results for the Missio Christi, in order to offer a contribution to the debate and a potential perspective for explaining the significance of Jesus' death in the current German-speaking cultural context. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M. Theological education by extension for parishioners : developing a curriculum

Samuel, Selvanayagam Donald 11 1900 (has links)
Theological Education by Extension (TEE) for parishioners is the general area of study. However, focus is placed on the developing of a curriculum, particularly on the problems and challenges around developing of a relevant TEE curriculum. Four different TEE programmes in Botswana were studied. The findings showed that problems were experienced by respondents and others who are involved in TEEs in Botswana. The respondents could identify and describe some of such problems and challenges. Therefore the researcher could arrive at the following conclusion:- Students, staff and all other parties of a TEE must collectively and fully participate in the developing of the curriculum. Moreover, the socio-cultural context influences TEE curriculum; therefore, students need to be trained to respond to such influences in their life situations. Once again, it is important that the curriculum policy and the process of planning take into account of some basic concerns like the theological presuppositions, aims and objectives and basic commitments or foci behind the curriculum. If these concerns are well attended, a more relevant TEE curriculum can be developed. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. M. (Practical Theology)

Managing a Business on the Bumpy Roads of Kenya : A Study about Women Entrepreneurs in the Textile Industry in Nairobi / Bedriva ett företag på Kenyas ojämna vägar : En studie om kvinnliga entreprenörer i textilindustrin i Nairobi

Lindell, Frida, Hansson, Marlene January 2011 (has links)
The textile industry in Kenya was once an important sector in the country but due to theliberalisation of trade and the second hand industry’s impact, the industry has declined inrecent years. The increased competition from import has boosted the costs of raw material andoutrivaled the local textile production. Further, the government’s lack of investments in thecountry’s electric power supply has also contributed to the current situation. Consequently, the domestic textile entrepreneurs are today facing a complex and competitive marketplacebut despite these obstacles there are women that have managed to overcome the entrancebarriers. It is an unfavourable climate for being a woman entrepreneur in Kenya since the socioculturalnorms restrain women to work outside their homes and in some business sectors. Though, ourfindings have shown that the Kenyan women have the handicraft skills but lack access tofinancial resources as well as management skills to start-up businesses in the textile industry.Access to credit is regarded as one of the main obstacles to establish a firm. There are lendinginstitutes but the interest rate is high and the collateral requirements hard to fulfil. Moreover, there are micro-loan institutes but the loans are not sufficient to companies with growthpotential. The purpose of this study was to map-out key success factors for becoming a womanentrepreneur in the competitive textile marketplace in Nairobi, Kenya. We aimed tounderstand how some entrepreneurs have managed to overcome the obstacles women face intheir social- and cultural context and how mapping of their shared supportive variables canencourage other females to become entrepreneurial. Our results find that there is not one way to handle difficulties along the dynamic andcompetitive textile market in Kenya. The respondents come from different social- and culturalcontexts that in diverse ways have influenced their management ways. We have though beenable to map out shared factors that have been supportive when overcoming obstacles in theprocess of a business start-up; being a visionary and opportunity seeker, counterbalancemissing knowledge, effective use of limited resources, fighter instinct, find a niche in themarketplace, networking skill and manage employees and unsupportive surroundings. / Program: Textilekonomutbildningen

Watching Indonesian sinetron: imagining communities around the television

Ida, Rachmah January 2006 (has links)
This thesis is about the everyday cultural practices of communal television viewing by urban kampung people. It challenges the institutional frameworks and constructs about the television audience. To achieve this, the thesis looks at the cultural context of the television set and its uses in urban kampung households and the neighbourhood system. Studies on urban kampung community in Indonesia so far have focused on the socio-economic and cultural practices of the people in relation to state ideological matters (e.g. Guinness, 1989; Sullivan, 1994; Brenner, 1998). This thesis is an attempt to extend the investigation about the cultural practices of the kampung community in relation to media use in the era of competitive private television in the early 2000s. As those kampung people have existentially engaged in fashioning their own lives neither as rural subjects nor urban/ity subjects, their narratives in responding to televised images and representations (of women in particular) shape the particularity of the cultural scene of these marginalized subjects. Taking up their social economic background and the particularities of socio-cultural circumstances of the kampung, this present study takes a close look into the day-to-day communal viewing practice of the kampung female viewers of the most-watched local program on Indonesian television, that is sinetron (television drama). / Extending the argument of Ien Ang and others into the Indonesian context, the thesis concludes that the national television audience as a unified, atomistic and controllable entity, as is institutionally imagined, does not exist. Rather, watching television, particularly among the urban middle to lower class community, is a discursive practice overwhelmingly showing the diverse, particular, and unpredictable attitudes, which challenge the account of 'the audience' that characterises the industry, the state and, ironically, also the intellectual critical knowledge producers.

L'argumentation sur des questions socio-scientifiques : l'influence des contextes culturels dans la prise de décisions / The argumentation about socio-scientific issues : the influence of cultural contexts in decision making

Gutierrez Romero, Mario Fernando 12 July 2016 (has links)
This thesis has the objective of analyzing the argumentative competence in Colombian students, when they must make decisions pertaining to agricultural mining projects and the impact that their ethnic origin and educational level have on their way of thinking about these topics. In particular special analysis is made in the argumentation of social scientific problematics that Colombian high school and university students sustain, who pertain to two different social contexts and cultures. The first part of this thesis had the aim of giving a panoramic view of the theoretical and empirical advances in relation to the study of argumentation and to express our theoretical opinions. The theoretical background of the empirical work was examined by way of diverse investigations. Lastly, psychological and linguistic models were considered to explain the analytical argumentation of the emotions. In the second part a detailed characterization of the Colombian Indian population was made, in particular of the Nasa-Kiwe (Páez) population. Their predominant characteristics were presented, their geographic location and a presentation of the Páez language, Nasaywe. The history of Colombia was described to offer an understanding of the social-scientific problematics utilized in this investigation. The individuals implicated in the experiment and all of the characteristics that resulted relevant in describing their origin and character, as well as the task that was presented to them and has allowed the presentation of the body of this investigation; as well as the statistics and graphics that allow a more global presentation of the findings. The third part of the investigation contains the analytical chapters. The interactional analysis of the discourse of the indigenous community highlights a collaborative discourse in which rational logic, agentivity, moral analysis and cosmic references are evoked to justify arguments. Also, a vindicated demand in relation to indigenous rights was found; these demands were defended by emotional arguments that made reference to aggressions experienced historically by the indigenous communities in Latin America. An aggression that recognizes the ethnic community, all though not independently of the educational level. In the majority of the urban population, there was no specific cosmogony or religion found. The analysis was principally realized through the argumentation of consequences, which was used to reflect the risks in relation to the environment and for the indigenous culture, specifically exploitation and the utilization of natural resources. All of the subjects situated the indigenous population as defenseless in the face of the aggressions to the environment. The final objective of many of the arguments was the protection of Mother Earth (from an indigenous perspective), or the preservation of the environment (from an urban point of view), now that the possibility of its disappearance is daunting in light of the different actors who are motivated by the economic exploitation in contrast of the perspective maintained by the indigenous communities.

Paul Claudel: Polední úděl - česká recepce divadelní hry francouzského dramatika a diplomata / Czech perception of Claudel's Break of Noon

Dvořáková, Tereza January 2017 (has links)
The master's thesis focuses on a translatological analysis of the original text and two available translations of the Break of Noon, a play written by a significant French playwright and diplomat Paul Claudel. Miloš Marten was the first to translate the play into Czech in 1910. The second translation was done by Vladimír Mikeš and was published in 2012. Given the time span of more than a hundred years between the translations, it is not only interesting to compare them linguistically but also to make a comparison of their reception. Therefore, the thesis deals with the reception of the texts and its development over time. The thesis defines Paul Claudel's place in French culture in the past and today and how its play is perceived in the Czech context. The thesis studies the position of the first translation in the time of its publishing and right after it. The thesis seeks to determine the reasons for the second translation to be commissioned and assess the position of the new text in the target culture. To determine the position of the translations in the Czech context and their potential effect on the culture, the thesis uses the polysystem theory which seems to be the most convenient tool as it studies to what extent translation literature affects domestic literature.
