La lombalgie compte parmi les causes principales d’incapacité chez des membres des
Forces armées canadiennes (FAC). Une prise en charge efficace de cette condition est donc
primordiale afin de maintenir des forces opérationnelles. Les études randomisées contrôlées
réalisées auprès de la population générale suggèrent que la direction préférentielle (DP) est
efficace pour guider la prise en charge de la lombalgie. Toutefois, aucune étude n’a
investigué l’efficacité d’une telle approche en contexte réel ou auprès de la population
militaire. L’objectif de ce mémoire était d’évaluer, dans le contexte réel de la pratique
clinique, l’efficacité d’une prise en charge guidée par la DP parmi des membres des FAC
souffrant de lombalgie. Pour ce faire, une étude observationnelle de cohorte incluant 44
membres consentant des FAC a été réalisée. Les patients du groupe exposé (n=22) ont reçu
des interventions guidées par la DP. Les patients du groupe non-exposé (n=22) ont reçu les
soins usuels, soit des interventions déterminées par leur physiothérapeute, mais pas
d’approche guidée par la DP. Les données ont été colligées et comparées entre les deux
groupes au début de l’étude, à 1 mois, et à 3 mois grâce à un questionnaire autoadministré
concernant la douleur (intensité, localisation, fréquence), l’incapacité perçue, la
consommation de médicaments, et l’effet global perçu (douleur, fonctionnement et état
général). La perte de productivité et l’utilisation de soins de santé ont été mesurées à 3 mois
grâce au dossier médical électronique. Des différences statistiquement significatives en
faveur du groupe exposé à une prise en charge guidée par la DP ont été observées pour
l’intensité de la douleur (Δ à 1 mois : 1,9/10; Δ à 3 mois : 1,3/10), l’incapacité perçue (Δ 1
mois : 4,3/24; Δ 3 mois : 3,5/24), l’amélioration de l’effet global perçu à 1 mois (douleur :
86,4 % vs 57,1 %; fonctionnement : 81,8 % vs 47,6 %; état général : 86,4 % vs 57,1 %) et à
3 mois (douleur : 95,5 % vs 71,1 %; état général : 95,5 % vs 66,7 %), et l’amélioration du
statut au travail à 3 mois (54,5 % vs 23,8 %). Malgré les limites de notre étude, nos
résultats suggèrent qu’en conditions réelles de pratique, la prise en charge guidée par la DP
est plus efficace que les soins usuels pour réduire la douleur et l’incapacité chez les
membres des FAC souffrant de lombalgie. / Abstract : Low back pain (LBP) is a leading cause for disability in Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members. Efficacious and cost-effective management for LBP is thus essential to maintaining operational capabilities. In randomized controlled trials among the general population, directional preference (DP) was shown useful to guide treatment of LBP, but no studies have investigated this in real-life settings or in military personnel. The purpose of this study was to evaluate, in real-life clinical practice, the effectiveness of DP to guide management of LBP in CAF members when compared to usual care. To that purpose, we conducted a cohort study including 44 consenting CAF members with LBP. Patients in the exposed group (n=22) were assessed for DP and received matching interventions. Patients in the non-exposed group (n=22) received interventions as determined by their treating physiotherapist, excluding any DP-guided treatments. Data were collected and compared between groups at baseline, at 1-month and at 3-month follow-up using self-administered questionnaires regarding pain (intensity, location, frequency), perceived disability, medication, and perceived global effect (pain, function, overall status). Work loss and health care utilization were measured at 3 months using electronic health records. Statistically significant differences, favoring the exposed group, were observed for pain intensity (Δ at 1 month: 1.9/10; CI 95%; 0.97 – 2.89; Δ at 3 months: 1.3/10; CI 95%: 0.35 – 2.31), disability (Δ at 1 month: 4.3/24; CI 95%: 2.12 – 6.38; Δ at 3 months: 3.5/24; CI 95%; 1.59 – 5.33), perceived global effect at 1 month (pain: 86.4% vs 57.1%; function: 81.8% vs 47.6%; overall status: 86.4% vs 57.1%) and at 3 months (pain: 95.5% vs 71.1%; overall status: 95.5% vs 66.7%) with p-values <.05, and improvement in work status (3 months: 54.5% vs 23.8%). Our data suggest that DP-guided management is more effective than usual care physiotherapy to reduce pain and improve function in CAF members with LBP. Our findings are useful to inform clinicians and policy makers to improve management strategies for CAF members.

Long-Term Ambient Noise Statistics in the Gulf of MexicoSnyder, Mark Alan 15 December 2007 (has links)
Long-term omni-directional ambient noise was collected at several sites in the Gulf of Mexico during 2004 and 2005. The Naval Oceanographic Office deployed bottom moored Environmental Acoustic Recording System (EARS) buoys approximately 159 nautical miles south of Panama City, Florida, in water depths of 3200 meters. The hydrophone of each buoy was 265 meters above the bottom. The data duration ranged from 10-14 months. The buoys were located near a major shipping lane, with an estimated 1.5 to 4.5 ships per day passing nearby. The data were sampled at 2500 Hz and have a bandwidth of 10-1000 Hz. Data are processed in eight 1/3-octave frequency bands, centered from 25 to 950 Hz, and monthly values of the following statistical quantities are computed from the resulting eight time series of noise spectral level: mean, median, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis and coherence time. Four hurricanes were recorded during the summer of 2004 and they have a major impact on all of the noise statistics. Noise levels at higher frequencies (400-950 Hz) peak during extremely windy months (summer hurricanes and winter storms). Standard deviation is least in the region 100-200 Hz but increases at higher frequencies, especially during periods of high wind variability (summer hurricanes). Skewness is positive from 25-400 Hz and negative from 630-950 Hz. Skewness and kurtosis are greatest near 100 Hz. Coherence time is low in shipping bands and high in weather bands, and it peaks during hurricanes. The noise coherence is also analyzed. The 14-month time series in each 1/3- octave band is highly correlated with other 1/3-octave band time series ranging from 2 octaves below to 2 octaves above the band's center frequency. Spatial coherence between hydrophones is also analyzed for hydrophone separations of 2.29, 2.56 and 4.84 km over a 10-month period. The noise field is highly coherent out to the maximum distance studied, 4.84 km. Additionally, fluctuations of each time series are analyzed to determine time scales of greatest variability. The 14-month data show clearly that variability occurs primarily over three time scales: 7-22 hours (shipping-related), 56-282 hours (2-12 days, weather-related) and over an 8-12 month period.

Nous avons étudié in situ et en temps réel la structure de grains du silicium multi-cristallin issue de la solidification dirigée en utilisant l’imagerie X synchrotron. La radiographie X permet de suivre l’évolution de l’interface solide/liquide et de caractériser sa dynamique et sa morphologie. La topographie X nous donne des informations sur la structure de grains formée, les contraintes et les défauts issus de la solidification. Nous avons montré l’importance la préparation de l’état initial de la solidification en particulier pour les expériences de reprise sur germe. L’analyse de la morphologie de l’interface solide/liquide nous a permis de caractériser la surfusion cinétique du front de solidification, de comprendre l’évolution des sillons de joints de grains et d’analyser les mécanismes de compétition de grains ainsi que de révéler l’impact des impuretés sur la structure de grains formée à l’issue de la solidification. Le phénomène de maclage a aussi été observé dans nos expériences et nous avons démontré que les macles dans le silicium multi-cristallin peuvent être des macles de croissance. Deux types de macles ont été identifiés et le phénomène de compétition de grains en présence de macles étudié. / We studied in situ and real-time the grain structure of multi-crystalline silicon from directional solidification using synchrotron X-ray imaging techniques. X-ray Radiography gives information on the evolution, dynamics and morphology of the solid/liquid interface. X- ray Topography gives more information on the grain structure, strains and defects that occur during solidification step. We showed the importance of the preparation of the initial stage of solidification in particular in the experiments where solidification is initiated from seed. The analysis of the solid/liquid interface morphology allowed us to characterize the kinetic undercooling of the solidification front, to understand the evolution of the grains boundary grooves and to analyze the mechanisms of grain competition and also to reveal the impurities impact on the grain structure formed at the end of the solidification. We also observed twinning phenomenon in our experiments and we demonstrated that twins in multi-crystalline silicon can be growth twins. Two kinds of silicon twins have been identified and the grain competition phenomenon with twins studied.

Au cours de cette thèse, nous avons étudié in situ la solidification du silicium à l’aide de l'imagerie X-synchrotron. Les deux techniques utilisées lors de la solidification sont la radiographie et la diffraction de Bragg, elles permettent de caractériser: la dynamique des mécanismes de croissance, la cinétique de croissance, la nucléation et la compétition de grains, la déformation du réseau cristallin et les champs de contraintes liés aux dislocations. Ces observations sont combinées avec des caractérisations ex situ pour étudier l'orientation cristallographique, les déformations du réseau cristallin ainsi que les concentrations d'impuretés légères telles que le carbone et l'oxygène.La complémentarité de ces techniques permet d'étudier et de mieux comprendre : les phénomènes physiques liés à la formation de la structure de grain finale. Les résultats concernant la cinétique de croissance de l'interface solide-liquide et des facettes {111}, l'établissement de la structure de grain, l'importance du maclage, l'effet des impuretés légères, le champ de contrainte lié à la croissance et la compétition de grains et les dislocations sont discutés dans le manuscrit. / During this thesis, we studied in situ the solidification of silicon with X-synchrotron imaging. The two techniques used during solidification are radiography and Bragg diffraction and they allow characterizing: dynamic growth mechanisms, growth kinetics, grain nucleation and competition, lattice deformation and dislocation related strain fields. These observations are combined with ex situ characterizations to study the crystallographic orientation, the deformations of the crystal lattice as well as the concentrations of light impurities such as carbon and oxygen. The complementarity of these techniques makes it possible to study and to better understand: the physical phenomena related to the formation of the final grain structure. Results concerning the growth kinetics of the solid-liquid interface and of the {111} facets, the establishment of the grain structure, the importance of twinning, the effect of light impurities, the strain field related to growth and grain competition and dislocations are discussed in the manuscript.

A proposta da modificação química da superliga MAR-M247 através da substituição do Ta pelo Nb (em átomos) foi baseada nas seguintes informações: (1) O Nb desempenha funções muita parecidas com as do Ta nas superligas à base de Ni, como endurecedor via solução sólida da fase ? e elemento formador de fases secundárias (?? e carbonetos); (2) O Brasil tem as maiores reservas de Nb do mundo e (3) O Nb já é adicionado em diversas classes de superligas à base de Ni - fundidas convencionalmente e solidificadas direcionalmente e monocristalinas. Neste trabalho o objetivo principal foi de avaliar a viabilidade da substituição do Ta pelo Nb na superliga à base de Ni MAR-M247. As amostras da MAR-M247 e da liga modificada - MAR-M247[Nb] utilizadas na caracterização microestrutural foram obtidas por solidificação direcional no forno a vácuo do tipo forno Bridgman (Lab. de Solidificação/FEM-UNICAMP) nas seguintes condições de processamento: v = 5, 10 e 18 cm/h e G = 80°C/cm. As simulações de cálculo termodinâmico utilizando o programa Thermo-Calc foram realizadas com o objetivo de se avaliar se as temperaturas de transformação mudariam com a substituição do Ta pelo Nb. Para avaliação das propriedades mecânicas em alta temperatura e a estabilidade estrutural da superliga MAR-M247[Nb] foram realizados ensaios de fluência a 750 e 850 °C nas tensões de 840, 780 e 440 MPa. A estabilidade microestrutural da MAR-M247[Nb] foi testada por meio de ensaios de oxidação isotérmica a 1000 °C no intervalo de tempo de 30 minutos a 100 h. A substituição do Ta pelo Nb promoveu mudanças significativas principalmente nas temperaturas de formação do eutético ?/??, solvus - ?? e de fusão incipiente. As microestruturas das ligas após os experimentos de solidificação direcional a v = 5, 10 e 18 cm/h eram constituídas por dendritas da fase gama - ? e precipitados coerentes da fase gama linha - ?? (morfologia cuboidal). Na região interdendrítica da MAR-M247 e MAR-M247[Nb] solidificadas a v = 5 e 10 cm/h foram encontrados os eutéticos ?/?? e ?/Ni5(Hf,Zr). Na v = 18 cm/h a região interdendrítica era constituída apenas do eutético ?/??. A exposição a 1250 °C por 15 e 30 dias promoveu a decomposição total e a re-precipitação de carbonetos do tipo MC. No entanto, devido à contaminação por oxigênio e nitrogênio durante os tratamento térmicos, não foi atingido o equilíbrio termodinâmico em decorrência de mudanças das composições dos carbonetos MC. Nos ensaios de fluência a 750 °C, os tempos de ruptura foram de 49 h para MAR-M247 e de 39,4 h para MAR-M247[Nb] apesar dos elevados valores das tensões terem sido superestimados. A 850 °C o tempo de ruptura da MAR-M247[Nb] (trup = 359 horas) foi reduzido em 32 % em relação ao valor observado para MAR-M247 (trup = 476 horas). Os resultados dos ensaios de oxidação a 1000 °C da superliga MAR-M247[Nb] mostraram que o período transiente foi de 20 h com ganho de massa expressivo. A partir de 50 h o efeito do descolamento das camadas oxidadas durante o resfriamento das amostras foi significativo e promoveu uma variação de massa importante no intervalo de tempo de 50 a 100 h. Ensaios de oxidação em tempos mais longo deverão ser feitos para determinação da estrutura de formação das camadas e seus respectivos constituintes. / The chemistry modification in the Ni-based superalloy MAR-M247 through the replacing all Ta by Nb was based on in these statements: (1) Nb does the same function in Ni-based superalloys as Ta does, solid solution strenghtening and ?? e carbides element formers, (2) Brazil has the major ores of Nb in the world and (3) Nb has been added in all classes of Ni superalloy conventional casting, columnar and single crystal processed by directional solidification. In this study the main focus was to evaluate the feasibility of replacing Ta by Nb in the Ni - based superalloy MAR-M247. The samples of MAR-M247 and the Nb modified MAR-M247[Nb] were produced by directional solidification in a Bridgman vacuum furnace at the Solidification Research Lab/FEM - UNICAMP) in the following processing conditions: v = 5, 10 and 18 cm/h and G = 80 °C/cm. The thermodynamic simulations using Thermo-Calc program were performed to evaluate whether or not the transformation temperatures would change with the replacing of Ta by Nb. For the evaluation of mechanical properties at high temperature were performed creep rupture tests at 750 and 850 °C under the stress values of 840, 780 and 440 MPa. The isotermal oxidation tests at 1000 °C were done during the time interval of 30 min to 100 h. The replacing of Ta by Nb promoted some changes in eutectic-?/??, ??-solvus and incipient melting temperatures. After the directional solidification experiments at the v = 5, 10 and 18 cm/h the microstructural characterization has shown that for all condition the microstructures were composed by dendrites - ? and ?? - cuboidal precipitates in it. In the interdendritic region was observe the ?/?? and ?/Ni5(Hf,Zr) eutectics for v = 5 and 10 cm/h and only the ?/?? eutectics for v = 18 cm/h. The exposure at 1250 °C for the extended times promoted the formation of fine MC carbides but the equilibrium compositions have not been achieved due to the oxygen and nitrogen contamination. In the creep rupture tests at 750 °C the MAR-M247[Nb] have shown more shorter lifetime than the MAR-M247 even with overestimated tensile stress. At 850 °C the lifetime for MAR-M247[Nb] (trup = 359 h) was reduced by 32 % compared to the MAR-M247 (trup = 476 h). It was discussed that the changes in the composition of the ? phase induced Ta by Nb replacing which would led to the weakness of matrix in the MAR-M247[Nb]. The samples were oxidized at 1000 °C showed 20 h to the transient period and significant weight gain in that time. However at the extended period the weight gain had changed significantly and was precluded to predict the structure formation of oxides layer properly.

A proteção de sistemas de energia elétrica possui papel extremamente importante no aspecto de garantir o fornecimento de energia de maneira segura e confiável. Assim, a ação indevida ou a não atuação deste sistema de proteção pode causar danos materiais ou econômicos tanto para as concessionárias quanto para os consumidores de energia elétrica. Dessa forma, o sistema de proteção deve estar bem ajustado para que possa garantir suas funções, sendo sensível, seletivo, confiável e rápido. Para tanto, uma boa coordenação entre os relés de proteção deve ser estabelecida. No caso de um sistema de transmissão, o qual costuma ser um sistema malhado, a proteção é comumente realizada por relés de distância aliados a relés de sobrecorrente com unidade direcional, sendo que estes funcionam como elemento de retaguarda daqueles. O processo de ajuste desses relés é um trabalho muito difícil e demorado, que pode ainda estar sujeito a erros do engenheiro de proteção responsável pelo estudo. Neste contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver uma metodologia baseada na otimização por enxame de partículas que obtenha automaticamente os ajustes desses relés de forma a garantir a coordenação e seletividade entre eles, tornando assim o processo de ajuste mais rápido e preciso. Dessa forma, essa metodologia pode constituir uma ferramenta de auxílio muito favorável ao engenheiro de proteção. Além disso, como em todo problema de otimização, a função objetivo e as restrições foram definidas de maneira a retratar o problema de coordenação envolvendo tanto os relés de distância quanto os direcionais de sobrecorrente. A metodologia foi aplicada a dois sistemas, um fictício com 16 relés e um sistema de transmissão real com 44 relés, sendo que em ambos os casos ela apresentou resultados bastante satisfatórios proporcionando ajustes bem coordenados. / Electrical power systems protection has a very important role in the aspect of ensuring energy supply with safety and reliability. Thus, improper action or non-actuation of this protection system can cause materials and/or economics damages to electricity utilities as well as ordinary energy consumers. Therefore the protection system must be well adjusted so it can ensure its functions and thus being sensible, selective, reliable and fast. In order to achieve these characteristics, the protective relays must be well coordinated. In the case of meshed transmission systems, the protection is generally performed by distance relays as primary protection associated with directional overcurrent relays as backup protection. The process of adjusting these relays is very tough, slow and it can even be subject to the protection engineer mistakes. In this context, this work aims to develop a particle swarm optimization based methodology that can automatically obtain these relays adjusts so they can ensure relays coordination and selectivity, and then make this setting process faster and more precise. Thus, this methodology may provide a very favorable tool to aid the protection engineer. Moreover, as in any optimization problem, the objective function and the constraints were defined to represent the coordination problem involving both distance and directional overcurrent relays. The methodology was applied to two systems, a fictitious with 16 relays and a real transmission system with 44 relays, and in both cases it showed satisfactory results providing well-coordinated settings.

The thermodynamic simulations using Thermo-Calc program were performed to evaluate whether or not the transformation temperatures would change with the replacing of Ta by Nb. For the evaluation of mechanical properties at high temperature were performed creep rupture tests at 750 and 850 °C under the stress values of 840, 780 and 440 MPa. The isotermal oxidation tests at 1000 °C were done during the time interval of 30 min to 100 h. The replacing of Ta by Nb promoted some changes in eutectic-?/??, ??-solvus and incipient melting temperatures. After the directional solidification experiments at the v = 5, 10 and 18 cm/h the microstructural characterization has shown that for all condition the microstructures were composed by dendrites - ? and ?? - cuboidal precipitates in it. In the interdendritic region was observe the ?/?? and ?/Ni5(Hf,Zr) eutectics for v = 5 and 10 cm/h and only the ?/?? eutectics for v = 18 cm/h. The exposure at 1250 °C for the extended times promoted the formation of fine MC carbides but the equilibrium compositions have not been achieved due to the oxygen and nitrogen contamination. In the creep rupture tests at 750 °C the MAR-M247[Nb] have shown more shorter lifetime than the MAR-M247 even with overestimated tensile stress. At 850 °C the lifetime for MAR-M247[Nb] (trup = 359 h) was reduced by 32 % compared to the MAR-M247 (trup = 476 h). It was discussed that the changes in the composition of the ? phase induced Ta by Nb replacing which would led to the weakness of matrix in the MAR-M247[Nb]. The samples were oxidized at 1000 °C showed 20 h to the transient period and significant weight gain in that time. However at the extended period the weight gain had changed significantly and was precluded to predict the structure formation of oxides layer properly.

Modelling of directional thermal radiation and angular correction on land surface temperature from space / Modélisation du rayonnement thermique directionnel et corrections angulaires de la température de surface mesurée à distanceRen, Huazhong 24 May 2013 (has links)
L'objectif de cette thèse est la modélisation du rayonnement thermique directionnel des surfaces et de la correction angulaire sur la LST par des méthodes empiriques et physiques ainsi que l'analyse de validation sur le terrain. L'émissivité directionnelle des surfaces naturelles a été obtenue à partir du produit émissivité MODIS et est ensuite utilisée dans l'algorithme de split-window de correction angulaire sur la LST. Les modèles de paramétrage de l'émissivité directionnelle et du rayonnement thermique ont été développés. En ce qui concerne les pixels non iso-thermiques, la méthode de jour-TISI a été proposée pour obtenir l'émissivité directionnelle et la température effective à partir de données multi-angulaires infrarouges médian et thermique. Cela a été validé à l'aide de données aéroportée. Le modèle de noyaux Kernel BRDF a été vérifié dans le domaine de l'infrarouge thermique et son extension a servi à la normalisation angulaire de la LST. Un nouveau modèle, FovMod, qui concerne l'empreinte du capteur au sol, a été développé pour simuler la température de brillance directionnelle de couvert végétal en rang. Basé sur le résultat de la simulation de FovMod, une empreinte optimale pour la validation de champ de vue a été obtenue. Cette thèse a étudié systématiquement le rayonnement thermique directionnel et les corrections angulaires sur la température de surface et ses résultats amélioreront la précision sur la température et émissivité à partir de données de télédétection. Ils fourniront également des indices pour la conception de capteurs infrarouges thermiques multi-angulaires aéro/spatio portés et également pour la mesure au sol des paramètres de surface. / The aim of this thesis is the modeling of surface directional thermal radiation and angular correction on the LST by using empirical and physical methods as well as the analysis of field validation. The work has conducted to some conclusions. The directional emissivity of natural surfaces was obtained from MODIS emissivity product and then used in the split-window algorithm for angular correction on LST. The parameterization models of directional emissivity and thermal radiation were developed. As for the non-isothermal pixels, the daytime-TISI method was proposed to retrieve directional emissivity and effective temperature from multi-angular middle and thermal infrared data. This was validated using an airborne dataset. The kernel-driven BRDF model was checked in the thermal infrared domain and its extension was used to make angular normalization on the LST. A new model, namely FovMod that concerns on the footprint of ground sensor, was developed to simulate directional brightness temperature of row crop canopy. Based on simulation result of the FovMod, an optimal footprintfor field validation of LST was obtained. This thesis has systematically investigated the topic of directional thermal radiation and angular correction on surface temperature and its findings will improve the retrieval accuracy of temperature and emissivity from remotely sensed data and will also provide suggestion for the future design of airborne or spaceborne multi-angular thermal infrared sensors and also for the ground measurement of surface parameters.

Este trabalho propõe uma metodologia baseada em técnicas inteligentes capaz de fornecer uma coordenação otimizada de relés direcionais de sobrecorrente instalados em sistemas de energia elétrica. O problema é modelado como um caso de programação não linear inteira mista, em que os relés permitem ajustes discretizados de múltiplos de tempo e/ou múltiplos de corrente. A solução do problema de otimização correspondente é obtida através de uma metaheurística nomeada como Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization. Na literatura técnico-científica esse problema geralmente é linearizado e aplicam-se arredondamentos das variáveis discretas. Na metodologia proposta, as variáveis discretas são tratadas adequadamente para utilização na metaheurística e são apresentados os resultados que foram comparados com os obtidos pelo modelo clássico de otimização implementado no General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS). Tendo em vista os aspectos observados, o método permite ao engenheiro de proteção ter um subsídio adicional na tarefa da coordenação dos relés direcionais de sobrecorrente, disponibilizando uma técnica eficaz e de fácil aplicabilidade ao sistema elétrico a ser protegido, independentemente da topologia e condição operacional. / This work proposes a methodology that based on intelligent technique to obtain an optimized coordination of directional overcurrent relays in electric power systems. The problem is modeled as a mixed integer nonlinear problem, because the relays allows a discrete setting of time and/or current multipliers. The solution of the proposed optimization problem is obtained from the proposed metaheuristic named as Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization. In scientific and technical literature this problem is usually linearized and discrete variables are rounded off. In the proposed method, the discrete variables are modeled adequately in the metaheuristic and the results are compared to the classical optimization solvers implemented in General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS). The method provides an important method for helping the engineers in to coordinate directional overcurrent relays in a very optimized way. It has high potential for the application to realistic systems, regardless of topology and operating condition.

A proteção de sistemas de energia elétrica possui papel extremamente importante no aspecto de garantir o fornecimento de energia de maneira segura e confiável. Assim, a ação indevida ou a não atuação deste sistema de proteção pode causar danos materiais ou econômicos tanto para as concessionárias quanto para os consumidores de energia elétrica. Dessa forma, o sistema de proteção deve estar bem ajustado para que possa garantir suas funções, sendo sensível, seletivo, confiável e rápido. Para tanto, uma boa coordenação entre os relés de proteção deve ser estabelecida. No caso de um sistema de transmissão, o qual costuma ser um sistema malhado, a proteção é comumente realizada por relés de distância aliados a relés de sobrecorrente com unidade direcional, sendo que estes funcionam como elemento de retaguarda daqueles. O processo de ajuste desses relés é um trabalho muito difícil e demorado, que pode ainda estar sujeito a erros do engenheiro de proteção responsável pelo estudo. Neste contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver uma metodologia baseada na otimização por enxame de partículas que obtenha automaticamente os ajustes desses relés de forma a garantir a coordenação e seletividade entre eles, tornando assim o processo de ajuste mais rápido e preciso. Dessa forma, essa metodologia pode constituir uma ferramenta de auxílio muito favorável ao engenheiro de proteção. Além disso, como em todo problema de otimização, a função objetivo e as restrições foram definidas de maneira a retratar o problema de coordenação envolvendo tanto os relés de distância quanto os direcionais de sobrecorrente. A metodologia foi aplicada a dois sistemas, um fictício com 16 relés e um sistema de transmissão real com 44 relés, sendo que em ambos os casos ela apresentou resultados bastante satisfatórios proporcionando ajustes bem coordenados. / Electrical power systems protection has a very important role in the aspect of ensuring energy supply with safety and reliability. Thus, improper action or non-actuation of this protection system can cause materials and/or economics damages to electricity utilities as well as ordinary energy consumers. Therefore the protection system must be well adjusted so it can ensure its functions and thus being sensible, selective, reliable and fast. In order to achieve these characteristics, the protective relays must be well coordinated. In the case of meshed transmission systems, the protection is generally performed by distance relays as primary protection associated with directional overcurrent relays as backup protection. The process of adjusting these relays is very tough, slow and it can even be subject to the protection engineer mistakes. In this context, this work aims to develop a particle swarm optimization based methodology that can automatically obtain these relays adjusts so they can ensure relays coordination and selectivity, and then make this setting process faster and more precise. Thus, this methodology may provide a very favorable tool to aid the protection engineer. Moreover, as in any optimization problem, the objective function and the constraints were defined to represent the coordination problem involving both distance and directional overcurrent relays. The methodology was applied to two systems, a fictitious with 16 relays and a real transmission system with 44 relays, and in both cases it showed satisfactory results providing well-coordinated settings.
