Organizace destinačního managementu regionu Českobudějovicko / Destination management organization in the Region of České Budějovice

The objective of the graduate thesis is to create a proposal of a destination management organization concept in the Region of České Budějovice. Based on an analysis of the external and internal environment of a destination, the aim was to evaluate possible risks and obstacles during organization establishment and operation; to assort competences to an organization; to define its commission and activities; and to propose its method of financing based on the structure of its membership. The thesis is divided into two extensive parts. The first part is theoretical, called: A list of analyzed issues. Mainly, it deals with explanation of terminology in the sphere of tourism, determination of particular regions, explanation of terms of destination management and marketing, characteristics of destination management organization, and general description of stakeholder analysis assembly. The second part of the thesis, called: Analysis and results, consists of an analytical part, a synthesis of results and observations which provide ground for a proposal of a destination management organization concept.

L’industrie du tourisme est reconnue comme partie intégrante de l’économie dans un environnement mondial soumis à des influences macro difficiles à gérer et à maîtriser. Le tourisme alternatif tel que le tourisme éthique, est considéré comme une solution durable pour une industrie d’une grande importance dans le monde et qui représente une possibilité de survie économique pour certains pays. L’objectif de cette recherche était d’évaluer la perception du rôle de l’éthique sur la formation de l’image d’une destination touristique par un public étudiant voyageur français, et son influence sur ses choix. La méthode choisie a été principalement une approche constructiviste et qualitative permettant de transférer la contribution des connaissances à plusieurs disciplines, et a engendré des implications managériales dans l’industrie du tourisme. Les résultats démontrent que, bien que l’image éthique d’une destination touristique est principalement influencée par les aspects sociaux et environnementaux, pèsent également des considérations de gestion qui découlent des implications économiques et politiques du tourisme et des activités touristiques. Ces considérations seront essentielles lors de l’élaboration de futurs produits touristiques pour le marché cible que sont les futurs visiteurs dans un environnement mondial de plus en plus accessible. / The tourism industry has proven to be an economic reliance in a global environment that is subject to macro influences that are difficult to manage and sustain. Alternative tourism, such as Ethical tourism, is seen to be a sustainable solution for an industry that holds much importance worldwide and for some countries, presents economic survival. The aim of this research was to evaluate how the French student travel market perceive the role of ethics on tourist destination image formation and its influence on holiday choice. This was primarily achieved by adopting a constructivist and qualitative approach that allowed for rich knowledge of contribution to be transferred to several academic disciplines and provided managerial implications for the tourism industry. Findings show that although an ethical tourist destination image is principally influenced by social and environmental impacts, there are also managerial considerations that derive from the economic and political implications that come from tourism and tourist activity. These considerations will be key when developing future tourism products for a target market who are the future visitors of an ever increasing accessible global environment.

The factors that Influence Participation and usage Decisions of Destination Management System (DMS) by regional SMTEs

The tourist industry plays an immense role in the socio-economic development of different regions. Destination Management Systems (DMS) are significant in developing e-tourism. DMS integrate data from Small and Medium-Sized Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs) in order for tourists to find information about e.g. accommodation, restaurants and attractions of a certain location. Although being represented in a DMS has proven to be advantageous, not all SMTEs are participating in such systems. This thesis aims to explore the possible factors that influence, motivate and inhabited regional SMTEs to participate in DMS and to create a framework from these factors. Data was collected by semi-structured interviews performed with respondents from SMTEs in Jönköping County, Sweden and Liverpool City, United Kingdom. The transcriptions from the interviews were analyzed by content analysis in order to create categories of factors. The motivating factors were categorized in technological, organizational and external factors. Technological factors were user friendliness, system quality, effectiveness, information quality, system performance, system updates and information up-dates. The organizational factors were management support, available resources and the size of the organization. The external factors competitive pressure, cost effectiveness, distribution channel, user satisfaction and to provide quality services to customers. The inhibiting factors were categorized into administration factors and communication factors, where the predominant factor was lack of know-how. The communication factors were lack of available information and lack of communication between organizations. To increase SMTEs’ participations in DMS, Destination Management Organizations need to enhance communication, develop marketing strategies and clearly explain the benefits of participation the SMTEs.

The spatial autocorrelation problem in spatial interaction modelling: A comparison of two common solutions

Spatial interaction models of the gravity type are widely used to describe origin-destination flows. They draw attention to three types of variables to explain variation in spatial interactions across geographic space: variables that characterize the origin region of interaction, variables that characterize the destination region of interaction, and variables that measure the separation between origin and destination regions. A violation of standard minimal assumptions for least squares estimation may be associated with two problems: spatial autocorrelation within the residuals, and spatial autocorrelation within explanatory variables. This paper compares a spatial econometric solution with the spatial statistical Moran eigenvector spatial filtering solution to accounting for spatial autocorrelation within model residuals. An example using patent citation data that capture knowledge flows across 257 European regions serves to illustrate the application of the two approaches.

Denna Kandidatuppsats kommer ta upp det ständigt växande fenomenet massturism och hur den påverkar turister både när de är ute och reser och i deras vardagliga liv. För att få en generell bild av hur fenomenet påverkar turister har vi gjort en enkätundersökning som besvarats av ett hundratal personer som fått beskriva om och hur de upplevt massturism. För att få en djupare förståelse av hur massturism påverkar en destination specifikt har intervjuer utförts med tio personer som alla besökt Venedig, som är staden som vi har utfört en fallstudie om. I inledningen presenters och förklaras massturism. I metod och teori förklaras de metoder som kommer att användas samt en förklaring varför vi tror att de passar vår undersökning. Tidigare forskning tar upp forskning som redan gjorts om massturism generellt och massturismen i Venedig. I ramverk för fortsatt forskning förklaras de begrepp som sedan analyserats i resultat. I resultatet kommer empirin läggas fram och analyseras utifrån vår enkätundersökning och intervjuer. Diskussionskapitlet diskuterar våra resultat för att slutligen leda fram till vår slutsats. Våra frågeställningar har varit: På vilka sätt anser turister generellt att massturismen har påverkat deras besök på en destination? Och Hur upplever besökare i Venedig dess massturism och på vilket sätt har fenomenet påverkat deras besök? / This bachelor thesis will present the ever-growing phenomenon, mass tourism and what impact it has on tourists when they are traveling and in their everyday life. To get a general picture of how the phenomenon affects tourists, we have done a survey answered by a hundred people who got to describe whether and how they experienced mass tourism. To get a better understanding of how mass tourism affects a specific destination, we have made interviews with ten people who all visited Venice, which is the city that we have made a case study about. In the introductory part we will present mass tourism and explain the phenomenon. In the methodology part, we explain the methods we will use and why we think they fit our thesis. Previous research includes research already done about mass tourism in general and mass tourism in Venice. In the framework for further research, we will explain the concepts which we then are going to analyse our results from. In the result, we present and analyse the empirical findings that we have collected through our survey and interviews. The discussion part will discuss our results and ultimately lead to our conclusion. Our research questions are: In what way do tourists generally think that mass tourism have affected their visits to a destination? And How do visitors in Venice see its mass tourism and in what way does the phenomenon affect their visit?

Le tourisme est considéré comme un phénomène récent qui a gagné en popularité avec l'augmentation du temps libre et de l'amélioration dans les moyens de transport. Notre recherche se concentre sur deux stations balnéaires : La Baule en France et Bournemouth au Royaume-Uni. Ces destinations ont été créées ex-nihilo par le tourisme et ont gagné en popularité dès le 19e siècle. La recherche statistique montre qu'elles ont progressivement évolué vers les villes où le tourisme reste l'un des facteurs importants de l'économie. Nos recherches et des interviews à La Baule et Bournemouth montrent que ces deux sites sont en train de devenir des destinations populaires d'habitation, que ce soit pour la retraite ou pour posséder des résidences secondaires. La Baule reste une destination privilégiée où les résidences secondaires qppartiennent, pour la plupart à des personnes venant de la région parisienne ainsi que de l'agglomération nantaise. Bournemouth a vu une popularité accrue grâce à son investissement dans "l'éducation", que ce soit les écoles de langue ou de la célèbre université de Bournemouth. L'activité économique accrue en raison d'une augmentation de la population locale a mis la pression sur la demande de logements. Les deux stations, Bournemouth et La Baule, sont des destinations qui semblent avoir surmonté le facteur "saisonnier", alors qu'auparavant elles étaient obligées de vivre avec. Notre recherche montre qu'avec la diversité de l'activité économique dans les stations balnéaires étudiées, le post-tourisme est en place à la fois dans La Baule et à Bournemouth. Ces villes sont attendues à croître et rester attractives pour le tourisme mais resteront populaires comme destinations pour y habiter toute l'année. / Tourism is considered a recent phenomenon that gained popularity with increase in leisure time and better means of transport. Our research focuses on two beach resorts : La Baule in France and Bournemouth in the United Kingdom. These destinations were created ex-nihilo by tourism and gained popularity in the 19th century. Statistical research shows that they have gradually evolved into cities wherein tourism remains one of the important factors in the economy. Our field research and interviews in La Baule and Bournemouth shows that both these sites are evolving into favoured destinations for "living" : be it for retirement or for owning second homes. La Baule remains a favoured destination where second homes are owned by people coming from the Paris region as well as the neighbouring city of Nantes. Bournemouth has seen an increased popularity thanks ti its investment in "education" : be it language schools or the famed Bournemouth University. The increased economic activity due to an increase in the local population has put pressure on housing demand. Both Bournemouth and La Baule are destinations that seem to have overcome the "seasonality" facror that most tourism destinations were once forced to live with. Our research shows that with the diversity of economic activity in Beach resorts, post-tourism is in place in both. La Baule and Bournemouth. These cities are expected to grow and remain attractive for tourism but will remain popular as destinations for residents who will live therein through the year.

Part of the thesis is the overview of the basic terms in destination management plus marketing, as well as analysis of current level of tourism in this regions and analysis of primary and secondary tourism offers and SWOT analysis. Following is focus on the region's development strategy, including its promotion, ROP projects and proposed options for further development of the tourism. Thesis were supervised using the Czech-Austrian cooperation in the program AKTION lead by Prof. (FH) Mag. Michael Mair in Vienna.
