Digitization of Arizona Rural and Agricultural History Documents, 1820-1945Bracke, Marianne Stowell, Cushman, Charlotte, Han, Yan, Jones, Doug, Liptak, Gene, Martin, Jim 02 May 2008 (has links)
Poster presentation from the Living the Future 7 Conference, April 30-May 3, 2008, University of Arizona Libraries, Tucson, AZ. / The University of Arizona Library is participating in the "Preservation of the Literature of Agriculture" project, which is overseen by Cornell University. We are one of three Libraries in the final phase of this USAIN/NEH funded grant project, and are coordinating the digitization over 1,000 books, serials, pamphlets, and other printed materials on the history of state and local agriculture and rural life in Arizona published between 1820 and 1945. All digitized content will be made freely available on the web. These materials were selected and rated by a scholarly panel of historians and scientists at the University of Arizona with the assistance of librarians. Our poster will describe the creation of the bibliography and ranking system, the outsourcing of the digitization process, and the challenges inherent in securing copyright permissions and locating and arranging for the digitization of rare materials that are not widely held. We will also describe the development of a tracking database being used to manage the project and provide an overview of our technical specifications and quality control process. Details on the project can be found at http://usain.org/.

Digital förändring i byggbranschen : En studie av vilka ledarskapsbeteenden chefer i byggbranschen besitter och hur dessa påverkar digitalt förändringsarbete / Digital change in the construction industry : A study of the leadership behavior of construction managers and how these affect digitization.Carlsson, John, Johansson, Richard January 2018 (has links)
Since there is a lot of construction going on in Sweden right now, the construction sector accounts for a significant part of Sweden's GDP and SMEs constitute 99.9% of Swedish companies, it is interesting to know how well these smaller companies are equipped to meet digitization. The construction sector has been lagging behind other sectors, and digital changes are expected to intensify over the next few years. Through a qualitative method, this study aims at understanding whether managers in the construction industry have the leadership behaviours required for the change that is under way and comes with digitization. In this study's discussion we show that the managers in question are ready for the change process that comes with digitization. They are knowledgeable about how to implement the potential digitization and possess the behaviors that make this possible. What they lack is instead behavior to begin this digital change and because of that, internally driven digitization is completely absent.

Photography in Swedish Memory Institutions : Convergence, Digitization, and the Difficulties of Defining ImagesPierce, Rachel January 2018 (has links)
This study examines how photographic material has been classified and contextualized on the digitization platforms of the major Swedish memory institutions – the National Library of Sweden, the National Archives of Sweden, and the Nordic Museum. Combined with a series of interviews with digitization practitioners at these institutions, the paper examines the cultural-historical approach to defining the concept “photography” and classifying digitized photographs, as well as how photographic material is treated similarly to or differently from other kinds of material housed at these institutions. These results of this question are used to examine the likelihood that, driven by similarities in digitization practices, significant differences between Swedish libraries, archives, and museums are disappearing.

The legal implications of electronic letter of credit as a cross border trade payment mechanism : Botswana as a case studyBasimanyane, Kelebileone January 2016 (has links)
Over the years, the electronic letters of credit evolved as one of the developments to meet the international trade demands coupled with the exponential technology advancements of the current times which whetted an appetite for superfluous trade and competitiveness in the trade industry. Just like legal discrepancies pursuant to the use of the letter of credit in international trade, this too demanded some legal architecture to govern its utilization. However, unlike the traditional letters of credit, there are more legal stumbling blocks concerning this form of letters of credit. The primary legal constraints being, lack of legal recognition by the courts because of their nature (being data messages); lack of recognition in the laws of contracts (digital signatures, digital contracts), public perception more especially most of the developing countries, who because of lack of technology, resources and skilled man power, lacked knowledge on the advantages of technology advancement.
So, the study interrogates the legal implications of an electronic letter of credit in the international trade transactions using Botswana as a case study. Importantly, it investigates the completeness and sufficiency of the legal regimes in Botswana to enable operation of the electronic letter of credit. The conclusions are that the Botswana e-legislation drafts so far are complete as regard to the legal principles enabling electronic transactions. It also argues that the laws are comprehensive enough, receptive to the electronic documents including the upcoming developments in technology and more importantly, the fact that it provides a level playing field for all the players by protecting the rights of the users of electronic transactions in general. / tm2017 / Centre for Human Rights / LLM / Unrestricted

Digitalisering av restaurangtjänster till följd av Covid-19-pandemin : Hur restaurangverksamheter påverkas av att införa system för digital beställning och betalningCarlsson, Mats, Kvarnbäck, Molly January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact that digitization of service processes can have on restaurants. The restaurant industry has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic due to restrictions that prohibits large physical gatherings that only allows table service. As a result of this, several restaurants have turned to digital solutions where sitting guests, through their mobile devices, order to the table through a digital menu and pay through their phone. This has led to a digital transformation in the restaurants affecting the whole organization. The impact that these digital-, ordering and payment tools have on restaurant organizations have been examined by studying different types of restaurants that have all integrated the same type of tool for digital ordering and payment. Through a qualitative method with a deductive approach, data has been collected through literature research, semi-structured interviews and observational studies to contribute to the topic being investigated. The study is primarily aimed towards those who may be interested in undergoing a digital transformation in restaurant operations. The purpose of the study is to investigate what impact a digitalisation of service processes has had on restaurants as a result of Covid-19 and what specific factors are important in the restaurant when a digital transformation is to be implemented and why. The study first presents the result from the data collection that is analyzed in a later section incombination with previous theories. The result and the analysis are then discussed followed by a conclusion. The study shows that the implementation of digital service processes has a major impact on workroles, work processes and experience in restaurant services. Attitudes towards the implementation ofdigital service processes are largely influenced by the context in which it is implemented. The studyalso shows that the restaurant business's operations change in such a way that the digital ordering and payment tool has automated certain activities and thereby facilitated for the staff but at the same time, unpredictable events have led to the activities have become more for the staff. The digital ordering has affected the staff's work role and competencies because more time is being spent on explaining the technical use of the digital ordering tool instead of the menu and assortment. The survey also shows that a digital transformation is primarily applicable to restaurants that offer simpler food and drink and where there is large value in getting one's order fast.

Företags värdekedjor inom detaljhandeln – Hur dessa hanterat samhällets digitala transformationAhlqvist, Carl Oskar, Rydholm, Hampus January 2020 (has links)
Since the beginning of man, there has been great technological development. Both the industrial revolution and now, industry 4, are good examples of this. This has led to a big change both in our everyday lives as well as for companies and their daily operations. The paper is based on a series of analyses on different documents from the internet, organization documents and documents from public authorities. This will then in turn be combined with a literature review and traditional theories regarding the topic. The paper concludes that customers' changing purchasing behavior has created a need for change in the retail mar. The changing purchasing behavior is attributed to the digitalization of society and customers' new expectations of the companies. To remain relevant in the market, organizations today must meet customers and their expectations through digital portals in a way that did not exist before.
