Indagações quanto à possibilidade de a IA substituir o trabalho do homem ou à eventualidade de que a máquina possa vir a pensar como um ser humano aparecem quando se discorre a respeito da interação da máquina com a sociedade. Aparentemente, há consenso entre os especialistas sobre o fato de que a IA seja uma tecnologia importante na prática do Direito. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar tal tecnologia ao leitor, identificar seus principais impactos na profissão jurídica e mapear os desafios que aparecerão do conflito e da confusão gerados pelas mudanças tecnológicas. Como a discussão sobre o alcance da IA é recente, foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica a respeito do tema. Para tanto, foi consultada a literatura especializada publicada por meio das mídias tradicionais durante os últimos dez anos no Brasil, nos Estados Unidos e na Europa. Para relatar a abrangência da tecnologia em questão, optou-se por pesquisar experiências de empresas brasileiras que estejam desenvolvendo ferramentas de IA para o mundo jurídico, bem como comentar experiências de escritórios de advocacia na discussão e implementação de atividades relacionadas com a IA. O trabalho de revisão bibliográfica foi complementado com a exposição de relatos de empresas que atuam no desenvolvimento de ferramentas de IA, nos setores público e privado, bem como de colaboradores de escritórios brasileiros que têm estudado formas de utilização dessas ferramentas. Este trabalho aponta para a importância de se acompanhar a utilização das ferramentas da IA na profissão jurídica. Tal tendência pode contribuir para a liberação do tempo do advogado, permitindo-lhe concentrar-se em funções estratégicas, e está alinhado com a demanda dos clientes por serviços a preços cada vez mais competitivos, representando um incentivo para que sejam encontradas formas alternativas de realização do trabalho dos advogados. A pesquisa referente ao desenvolvimento de tais ferramentas é fundamental e deve ser aprofundada. Faz-se necessário, também, discutir a grade de formação do advogado, com o objetivo de capacitar o aluno a atuar com conhecimentos ampliados que lhe permitam trabalhar como um agente multidisciplinar na indústria de serviços legais. / Recent achievements coming from Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools provoke increasing curiosity while generating some discomfort. Inquiries about the possibility of AI replacing human work or the possibility that the machine may think like a human appear when discussing the interaction of the machine with society. There seems to be consensus among scholars that AI is an important technology in law practice. The objective of this work is to present the technology to the reader, to identify the main impacts of AI in the legal profession, and to map the challenges that will arise from the conflict and the confusion generated by the technological changes. Since the discussion about the scope of AI is recent, a bibliographical review of the specialized literature, over the last 10 years, has been carried out on traditional media from Brazil, the United States and Europe. In order to report the scope of the AI, the experiences from both Brazilian companies that are developing AI tools for the legal world and from law firms in the discussion and implementation of activities related to AI have been researched. The bibliographical review work was complemented by the reports of companies that work in the development of AI tools both in the public and private sectors, as well as by the experience related by Brazilian legal firms who have studied ways of using these tools. This work points to the importance of accompanying the use of AI tools in the legal profession. Such a move can contribute to the lawyer's time release by allowing him to focus on strategic functions and is aligned with customer´s demand for services at increasingly competitive prices, representing an incentive to find alternative ways of performing the lawyers´ work. The research concerning the development of such tools is fundamental and should be deepened. It is necessary to discuss the lawyer´s training grid with the objective of enabling the student to act with expanded knowledge in order to enable him to work as a multidisciplinary agent in the legal services.

Autonomous, connected, electric shared vehicles (ACES) and public finance: An explorative analysis

This paper discusses the implications of autonomous-connected-electric-shared vehicles (ACES) for public finance, which have so far been widely ignored in the literature. In OECD countries, 5-12% of federal and up to 30% of local tax revenues are currently collected from fuel and vehicle taxation. The diffusion of ACES will significantly reduce these important sources of government revenues and affect transport-related government expenditures, unless additional policies are introduced to align the new technological context with the tax revenue requirements. We argue that the realization of socioeconomic benefits of ACES depends on the implementation of tailored public finance policies, which can take advantage of the increase in data availability from the further digitalization of transportation systems. In particular, the introduction of road tolls in line with "user Pays" and "polluter Pays" principles will become more feasible for policy. Moreover, innovation in taxation schemes to fit the changing technological circumstances may alter the relative importance of levels of governance in transport policy making, likely shifting power towards local, in particular urban, governmental levels. We finally argue that, given the risk of path-dependencies and lock-in to sub-optimal public finance regimes if policies are implemented late, further research and near-term policy actions taken during the diffusion process of ACES are required.

New media and self-directed learning : enhancing pedagogical transformation in an open distance learning landscape

Modern technological innovations are constantly seen throughout every aspect of life, and higher education is no exception. To this end, this article sheds some light on the types of and pedagogical value of new media adopted by academics to promote self-directed learning at the University of South Africa. The study answers the following questions: Which new media approaches have been adopted by academics to enhance self-directed learning? What is the pedagogical value of new media in an ODL environment? A qualitative approach was employed and data was collected through face-to-face interviews with 30 purposively selected Unisa academics. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model was found relevant to this study. Thematic categorisation was employed for data analysis. The findings depict that a variety of new media have been adopted to promote self-directed learning at Unisa. The study also found that new media are playing a pivotal role in promoting self-directed learning in an ODL landscape. It is therefore important to note that new media have emerged as strong catalysts in fostering pedagogical transformation. / College of Education / M. Ed (Open and Distance Learning)

Bilindustrins förmåga att hantera förändringar i affärsmodellerna : Hur den uppkopplade bilen påverkar bilindustrins affärsmodeller

The development of IT has enabled the Internet of Things. Internet of Things is connected devices that communicate with each other and generate data that can then be used for different purposes. The number of connected devices is estimated to 20.4 billion by year 2020. The technology allows the automotive industry to connect its vehicles, which is called Internet of Vehicles, an application of the Internet of Things and intelligent cars. The amount of scientific literature that addresses the economic aspects related to the Internet of Things is scarce and need to be investigated further. The connected car is a disruptive technology that is expected to affect the automotive industry and their business models radically in the next few years and nobody really knows how the industry may look like the next 10-15 years. This type of disruptive technology requires companies to have the competence to implement innovative business models. The study focuses on the connected car from a business perspective and makes no insight into technical aspects or security challenges. The purpose of the study is to create an under-standing of the challenges facing the automotive business models with the introduction of the Internet of Things, which gives the automotive industry the opportunity to connect their cars to a greater extent than before. The study's results show that the value proposition and the channels are the most important parts to focus on in the business model. In order for companies to capitalize on the connection, it is extremely important that the customers understand the value of the connection and that the companies properly manage the information derived from the connected cars. Today, companies offer services or increased value in existing business models to strengthen their brand. The respondents share the opinion that the traditional business models will not change radically as long as the ownership of the car stay the same. Ownership and autonomous cars are the factors that are expected to affect the automotive industry the most. According to the respondents in the study, in order to deal with disruptive innovations in the industry, courage, adaptability, prospects and innovative thinking are required. / IT-utvecklingen har möjliggjort sakernas internet, Internet of Things. Internet of Things är uppkopplade enheter som kommunicerar med varandra och genererar data som sedan kan användas i olika syften. Antalet anslutna enheter beräknas att uppgå till 20,4 miljarder år 2020. Tekniken ger bilindustrin möjligheten att koppla upp sina fordon vilket benämns som Internet of Vehicles, en applikation av Internet of Things och intelligenta bilar. Vetenskaplig litteratur som tar upp de ekonomiska aspekterna i relation till Internet of Things är begränsad och behöver undersökas i större utsträckning. Den uppkopplade bilen är en disruptiv teknologi som förväntas påverka bilindustrin och deras affärsmodeller radikalt inom de närmaste åren och det är ingen som riktigt vet hur industrin kan komma att se ut de närmsta 10-15 åren. Denna typ av disruptiv teknologi kräver att företagen har kompetensen att implementera innovativa affärsmodeller. Studien fokuserar på den uppkopplade bilen ur ett affärsperspektiv och gör ingen fördjupning i tekniska aspekter eller säkerhetsutmaningar. Syftet med studien är att skapa förståelse för vilka utmaningar bilindustrins affärsmodeller står inför med introduktionen av Internet of Things som ger industrin möjligheten att koppla upp sina bilar i en större omfattning än tidigare. Studiens resultat visar att värdeerbjudandet och kanalerna är de viktigaste delarna att fokusera på i affärsmodellen. För att företagen ska kunna kapitalisera på uppkopplingen är det viktigt att kunderna förstår värdet av uppkoppling och att företagen förvaltar informationen från de uppkopplade bilarna på rätt sätt. Idag erbjuder företagen tjänster eller utökat värde i befintlig affärsmodell för att stärka sitt varumärke. Respondenterna delar uppfattningen om att de traditionella affärsmodellerna inte kommer förändras radikalt så länge ägandet av bilen inte gör en helomvändning. Ägandeskapet och autonoma bilar är de faktorer som förväntas påverka industrin störst. Respondenterna i studien nämner fyra viktiga egenskaper för att kunna hantera disruptiva innovationer i branschen, mod, anpassningsbarhet, framtidsutsikt och nytänkande.
