Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-04T18:27:42Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Fernanda Robert de Carvalho Santos Silva.pdf: 256026 bytes, checksum: bbd79ae11fa117556d64316371da5b79 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-12-04 / Pontif?cia Universidade Cat?lica de Campinas / The World Health Organization describes the violence against women ; committed by an intimate partner ; as the most frequent form of this violence. The current conflicts occur because of the continuation of relationship patterns ; with feelings ; defenses and anxiety which happen repeatedly. This research intends to obtain measures of internal consistency ; converging validity and also the authenticity of the criteria of the Central Relationship Questionnaire CRQ ; a tool of self-report which evaluates the pattern of core conflictual relationship expressed in the relationship with a love partner ; by dimensions: wishes (W) (D) ; responses from other (RO) and responses of other (RE). The sample ; not random ; was composed by a case group (GC) ; of 32 women ; with ages between 19 and 56 (A=38.91; DP=10.25; Mo = 44) in a situation of marital violence; and a non case group (GNC) ; sample by convenience ; of 22 women ; with age between 18 and 37 (A = 32.26;DP=6.18 ; Mo=18) ; pregnant admitted to a maternity center to give birth and who did not suffer sexual violence and did not find themselves in a violent situation. In the GC ; 75% suffered physical violence ; 93.8% suffered psychological violence and 18.8% suffered sexual violence. As an external criteria measure of the CRQ ; the Scale of Symptoms Evaluation EAS-40 ; which measures four dimensions: psychoticism ; obsession-compulsion ; somatization and anxiety. Regarding the internal consistency of the CRQ ; the values of Cronbach alpha for GC varied between 0.59 and 0.83 and in the GNC ; between 0.76 and 0.81. For EAS- 40 in the GC they varied between 0.75 and 0.93 and in the GNC between 0.84 and 0.88. There was no substantial difference between the average scores of the CRQ between the groups; for the EAS-40 the discriminating validity of the tool with substantial differences between the groups regarding the gravity of the psychological symptoms was demonstrated. The substantial correlation between the ROs and the total score of the EAS-40 was found in the study of the converging validity ; and the dimensions: psychoticism and obsession-compulsion; between the REs and the obsessioncompulsion dimension. The results suggest that the Portuguese version of the Brazilian CRQ allows us to reliably evaluate the core pattern of conflict ; expressed in the relationship of women who are victims of violence and their love partners. The internal consistency of the tool is similar to its original version and allows us to properly discern women who are victims of violence from other ones who did not suffered violent events. Research with randomized samples must be carried out.

Implantation cochléaire sur audition résiduelle : conservation des structures anatomiques neurosensorielles / Residual hearing in cochlear implant patients : anatomical sensorineural structures preservation

Ibrahim, Houssam 01 December 2011 (has links)
In recent years the candidacy criteria for cochlear implantation have been expanding, and now include patients with severe to profound high-frequency hearing loss along with mild to moderate low-frequency loss. The single most important prerequisite for providing both electric and acoustic stimulation in the same ear is the preservation of acoustic hearing following the surgical procedure. Currently, several hearing preservation protocols are under investigation. Each protocol attempts to implement procedures that minimize both immediate and delayed mechanisms. Specifically, atraumatic approaches and electrode insertions (Flex EAS and Flex Soft) have been proposed that aim at minimizing the surgical aspect of intracochlear trauma. The concomitant application local of drugs should enhance tissue tolerability and thus reduce intracochlear damage on a cellular level. Acute and topical, intracochlear drug delivery prior to electrode array insertion with a disposable single-use catheter (Med-El) has been evaluated and developed. The flexible properties of this catheter are enough to be inserted without trauma in the cochlea. Sequential insertion of intracochlear catheters and electrode arrays is feasible and often atraumatic

Electrohydrostatic actuation system – an (almost) complete system view

Becher, Dirk 25 June 2020 (has links)
Electro-hydrostatic Actuation Systems (EAS) successfully combine the advantages of electro-mechanical actuation - such as high-energy efficiency and low noise emission - with the benefits of electro-hydraulic technology –which include robustness and the precise handling of large forces. This paper defines keywords like EAS and Electro-hydraulic pump unit (EPU), and provides a comparison of the two technologies. Given the wide range of EAS technology topics, it is only possible to briefly introduce and discuss these in this paper. This technology has reached a level that renders it a strong mechanism for machine manufacturers to support existing and future motion control requirements.

TAIGA-HiSCORE: a new wide-angle air Cherenkov detector for multi-TeV gamma-astronomy and cosmic ray physics

Porelli, Andrea 31 July 2020 (has links)
The TAIGA (Tunka Advanced Instrument for cosmic ray physics and Gamma Astronomy) detector is a new ground-based Cherenkov detection technology for gamma-astronomy from 10TeV up to several PeV, and cosmic rays (CR) above 100TeV. The main topic of this work is TAIGA-HiSCORE, the wide-aperture air Cherenkov timing array. The focus is on precision extensive air shower (EAS) arrival direction reconstruction, achieved by (1) sub-nsec time-synchronization between the array stations, and (2) a newly developed array time calibration procedure. The performance is verified using simulated and experimental data from EAS, dedicated LED calibration, and a LIDAR laser beam from the International Space Station (ISS). The analysis of the HiSCORE 9 data (2013-14), collected with a data acquisition system (DAQ) based on the White Rabbit (WR) timing system, allows to verify the sub-nsec time synchronization between the array stations. The analysis of HiSCORE 28 data (2015-2018) addresses the problem of achieving an easy-to-perform time calibration for large area ground-based Cherenkov array. A new "hybrid" calibration method is developed, which makes use of EAS data, and requires direct LED calibration of only a few array stations. The "chessboard" method is applied on the reconstructed data to obtain a MC-independent estimation of the detector angular resolution, found to be 0.4° at threshold (~50TeV) and <= 0.2° above 100TeV. A serendipitous discovery was made in this work: a signal from the CATS-LIDAR on-board the ISS was found in the HiSCORE 28 data. These "ISS-events" are used to verify the detector performance, in particular the absolute angular pointing (<= 0.1°), particularly important since a strong gamma point source has not yet been detected by the TAIGA-HiSCORE. The final part of the work presents a first preliminary approach to a wide aperture point source analysis, developed for the TAIGA-HiSCORE in stand-alone operation.

Molecular characterisation of the EAS gene cluster for ergot alkaloid biosynthesis in epichloë endophytes of grasses : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Genetics at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand

Fleetwood, Damien James January 2007 (has links)
Clavicipitaceous fungal endophytes of the genera Epichloë and Neotyphodium form symbioses with grasses of the family Pooideae in which they can synthesise an array of bioprotective alkaloids. Some strains produce the ergot alkaloid ergovaline, which is implicated in livestock toxicoses caused by ingestion of endophyteinfected grasses. Cloning and analysis of a plant-induced non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) gene from Neotyphodium lolii and analysis of the E. festucae E2368 genome sequence revealed a complex gene cluster for ergot alkaloid biosynthesis. The EAS cluster contained a single-module NRPS gene, lpsB, and other genes orthologous to genes in the ergopeptine gene cluster of Claviceps purpurea and the clavine cluster of Aspergillus fumigatus. Functional analysis of lpsB confirmed its role in ergovaline synthesis and bioassays with the lpsB mutant unexpectedly suggested that ergovaline was not required for black beetle (Heteronychus arator) feeding deterrence from epichloë-infected grasses. Southern analysis showed the cluster was linked with previously identified ergot alkaloid biosynthetic genes, dmaW and lpsA, at a subtelomeric location. The ergovaline genes are closely associated with transposon relics, including retrotransposons, autonomous DNA transposons and miniature inverted-repeat transposable elements (MITEs), which are very rare in other fungi. All genes in the cluster were highly expressed in planta but expression was very low or undetectable in mycelia from axenic culture, including under nitrogen-, carbonor phosphate-limited conditions. Comparative analysis of the EAS gene cluster in four different epichloë strains showed marked differences in gene expression and ergot alkaloid synthesis. Gene order is conserved in each strain although evidence for recombination between two MITEs and expansion or reduction of a simple sequence repeat (SSR) at a single intergenic region was observed. Heterologous expression of a candidate regulatory gene, laeA, from Aspergillus nidulans, which is a global regulator of secondary metabolism in aspergilli, did not affect eas gene expression. This, along with phylogeny and microsynteny analysis, suggests there is not an orthologue of this gene in epichloë. This work provides a genetic foundation for elucidating biochemical steps in the ergovaline pathway, the ecological role of individual ergot alkaloid compounds, and the regulation of their synthesis in planta.

Hearing Preservation CI Surgery and Hybrid Hearing : From Anatomical Aspects to Patient Satisfaction

Erixon, Elsa January 2014 (has links)
A common cause of profound deafness is hair cell dysfunction in the cochlea. Cochlear implants (CI) bypass the hair cells via an electrode and stimulate the cochlear nerve directly. Nowadays, it is possible to preserve residual hair cell function and hearing through flexible electrodes and a-traumatic CI surgery techniques; called hearing preservation CI surgery. This may suit partially deaf patients who can use natural low frequency hearing in combination with electric high frequency hearing; so-called hybrid hearing. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the effectiveness of hearing preservation CI surgery. The thesis demonstrates human cochlear anatomy in relation to CI and evaluates hearing and patient satisfaction after hearing preservation CI surgery. Analyses of human cochlear moulds belonging to the Uppsala collection showed large variations in dimensions and coiling characteristics of the cochlea. Each cochlea was individually shaped. The size and shape of the cochlea influences the position of the electrode. The diameter of the basal cochlear turn could predict insertion depth of the electrode, which is crucial for hearing preservation. The first 21 patients operated with hearing preservation CI surgery in Uppsala, showed preserved hearing. Nine-teen partially deaf patients receiving implants intended for hybrid hearing, were evaluated concerning pure tone audiometry, monosyllables (MS) and hearing in noise test (HINT). They also responded to a questionnaire, consisting of the IOI-HA, EQ-5D VAS and nine questions about residual hearing. The questionnaire results indicated a high degree of patient satisfaction with improved speech perception in silence and noise. This was also reflected by improved results in MS and HINT. Hearing was preserved in all patients, but there was an on-going deterioration of the residual hearing in the operated ear which surpassed the contralateral ear. There were no correlations between the amount of residual hearing and patient satisfaction or speech perception results. Electric stimulation provides a major contribution to speech comprehension in partially deaf patients. All the patients showed a high degree of satisfaction with their CI, regardless of varying hearing preservation.

AVALIAÇÃO DOS NÍVEIS DE RUÍDO EM ESTABELECIMENTOS ASSISTENCIAIS DE SAÚDE - ESTUDO DE CASO / EVALUATION OF THE NOISE LEVELS AT HEALTH ASSISTANCE ESTABLISHMENTS

Frees, Maria de Fatima Rocha 18 December 2006 (has links)
It has been noticed, at the health Assistance Establishments (EAS), higher and higher levels of noise, causing discomfort, interfering in the patient s rest, sleep and on the activities carried out. It was evaluated, through a qualitative-quantitative research, the noise in three units in a hospital (Pediatric, Labor room and New-born ICT), situated on an avenue with intensive traffic. The quantitative analysis was conducted through equivalent sound pressure level (LAEQ) and maximum and minimum levels. The qualitative study consisted of: appointments (sound sources and physical characteristics of the building), semi-structured interviews (employees, attendants and patients, over 16 years old) and observations (routine and equipments) the levels of the measured sounds, in all three environments, were above the recommendations, presenting, at certain hours and places, as very unpleasant, during the interviews. The reflecting physical characteristics of the buildings of the HAE, the high number of equipments some of them with inadequate isolation and placement and the openings (windows and doors) with inefficient enclosure, contribute for high levels of noise. The traffic, the construction (the enlargement of the hospital) and the comprehension bombs are said as uncomfortable. Medicine and meals carts are examples which depend on a momentary connotation (shots, pain relief, snacks, etc.). The research shows that several factors are able to generate and increase the noise levels in a hospital environment; therefore there is a necessity of detailed and contextualized analysis, accomplishing more adequate solutions.

The contribution of temperament to children's happiness

Klassen, Andrea Nicole 11 1900 (has links)
The relation between temperament and happiness in children aged 8-12 was examined. Participants included 311 students in Grades 4-6 and their parents, recruited from public and private schools in the Central Okanagan. Parents rated their children’s temperament using the Emotionality, Activity, and Sociability (EAS) Temperament Survey (Buss & Plomin, 1984) and rated their children’s happiness using a single-item measure. Children rated their own temperament using the EAS Temperament Survey and the Piers- Harris Self Concept Scale for Children, Second Edition (Piers-Harris 2) (Piers & Herzberg, 2002). Children also rated their own happiness using a single-item measure, the Oxford Happiness Scale, Short Form (Hills & Arygle, 2002), and the Subjective Happiness Scale (Lyubomirsky & Lepper, 1999). Confirmatory factor analyses established that parent and child ratings on the EAS Temperament Survey conformed to the four-factor structure proposed by Buss and Plomin (1984). Multiple regression analyses revealed that temperament accounted for between 9-29% of the variance in children’s happiness depending on the rater (i.e., parents vs. children) and the measure of happiness. Individual temperament variables that predicted a unique amount of the variance of children’s happiness over and above the combined effect of all temperament variables varied with the rater of children’s temperament (i.e., parents vs. children) and with the measure of happiness. Children who were more social, less shy, less emotional, and more free from anxiety rated themselves, and were rated by others, as happier. Children who scored higher on the activity temperament rated themselves, and were rated by others, as happier. The results of the current study parallel results of research investigating the relation between happiness and personality in adults. It establishes a strong relation between temperament and happiness, and iii supports the use of self-reports with children. Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
