Preaching in times of the European ‘Refugee Crisis’: a symposium in Leipzig (October 2016) and the starting point of a European research project on the relevance of ‘Pulpit Speech’ in society and politics

Deeg, Alexander 19 July 2017 (has links)
In October 2016 homileticians from seven European countries met in Leipzig in order to reflect on political preaching in the context of the so called European ‘refugee crisis’. This article shows the background of this conference, gives a very brief overview of the perspectives from different countries, and suggests ways to continue European homiletical research on this theme.

Homiletic transitions in The Netherlands: the spirit, human language and real preaching

Pleizier, Theo 19 July 2017 (has links)
Preaching is in transition, so is homiletics as the theory of preaching. In this article the development of homiletics in the Low Countries is explored as a case-study within the dynamics of international homiletical thought. The material for this case-study consists of the doctoral theses that have been published since the turn of the century. The amount of doctoral work in homiletics, the variety of methodological approaches and theological perspectives, provide a viable entrance to homiletics as academic discipline. It will be concluded that homiletics has developed into an international, empirically oriented, culturally sensitive, and theological diverse field. Preaching is in transition, so is homiletics. The transition, as seen through the lens of recent Dutch contributions to scholarly discourse in preaching, has three focal points: pneumatology, language, and empirical research.

[pt] A MISSÃO NA IGREJA DO EVANGELHO QUADRANGULAR EM RELAÇÃO COM A TEOLOGIA DA MISSÃO EM COMBLIN / [en] THE MISSION IN THE FOURSQUARE CHURCH IN RELATION TO THE THEOLOGY OF THE MISSION IN COMBLIN

JEFFERSON GRIJO BRASIL 05 January 2021 (has links)
[en] The research is linked to the Graduate Program in Theology at PUC-Rio in the area of Systematic-Pastoral Theology, line of research: Religion and Modernity; and linked to the research project Themes on the Church and the Dialogues. The beginning of the 20th Century introduced to the world the current pentecostal movement, which it expanded considerably in Christianity, and its way of missionary work has awakened the attention of many researchers. In this thesis is analyzed the mission of the Foursquare Church, which integrates the movement, both in terms of its historical participation and in Theology. The research sought a theologian who discussed pneumatological themes and the mission Theology, finding in José Comblin an interesting theoretical reference to compose a dialogue about the mission and the Holy Spirit. This prominent theologian, in addition to deal with relevant themes to the mission of that denomination, also served as a missionary, reflecting from the act itself. It s proposed here the ecumenical dialogue, as it is a pentecostal practice in dialogue with an exponent of the Catholic Theology. The hypothesis research is that the growth of the Foursquare Church in Brazil is related to its mission by the laypeople. The mission for the Foursquare Church begins with an evangelization of thaumaturgical proclamation, for the healing of individuals. We see that for Comblin, the mission has a liberation character of the human being. At this point, the two notions of mission can dialogue. It is observed that nowadays the reflection of Foursquare Church is opening up from the healing of the individual to also have the care of the human being and everything that concerns to life, such as Ecology and social differences.

Confrontational Christianity: Contextual Theology and Its Radicalization of the South African Anti-Apartheid Church Struggle

Rodriguez, Miguel 01 January 2012 (has links)
This paper is intended to analyze the contributions of Contextual Theology and Contextual theologians to dismantling the South African apartheid system. It is intended to demonstrate that the South African churches failed to effectively politicize and radicalize to confront the government until the advent of Contextual Theology in South Africa. Contextual Theology provided the Christian clergy the theological justification to unite with anti-apartheid organizations. Its very concept of working with the poor and oppressed helped the churches gain favor with the black masses that were mostly Christian. Its borrowing from Marxist philosophy appealed to anti-apartheid organizations. Additionally, Contextual theologians, who were primarily black, began filling prominent leadership roles in their churches and within the ecumenical organizations. They were mainly responsible for radicalizing the churches and the ecumenical organizations. They also filled an important anti-apartheid political leadership vacuum when most political leaders were banned, jailed, or killed.

A critical evaluation of the University Christian Movement as an ecumenical mission to students, 1967 -1972

Houston, William John 01 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This dissertation has examined the University Christian Movement (UCM) over its turbulent five year history from 1967 to 1972 in terms of the original hopes of the sponsoring ecumenical denominations. Contextual factors within the socio-political arena of South Africa as well as broader youth cultural influences are shown to have had a decisive influence. These factors help to explain the negative reaction from the founding churches. While this is not a thesis on Black Consciousness, nevertheless the contribution of the UCM to the rise of Black Consciousness and Black Theology is evaluated. UCM is shown to be a movement well ahead of its time as a forerunner in South Africa of Black Theology, contextual theology, feminism, modem liturgical styles, and intercommunion. As such it was held in suspicion. It suffered repressive action from the government and alienation from the churches. Constant cross referencing to other organisations such as the World Student Christian Federation, the National Union of South African Students, the South African Council of Churches, the Christian Institute, and the Sllldents Christian Association, helps to locate the UCM within the flow of contemporary history. The concluding evaluation differs markedly from the report of the Schlebusch Commission by making both critical and positive judgement from the perspective of the UCM as an ecumenical mission to students. / Christain Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M.Th. / The thesis of my research is to articulate the crucial role of Christianity in the development of Hong Kong society through the reinterpretation of the history of Hong Kong Christianity in the ecumenical perspective. / Hong Kong church is an impetus for the sustainable development of Hong Kong society. The guiding principles of the ecumenical theology are one of the facilitators for the church to react with the political, economic and social development of Hong Kong. In my research, I will scrutinize the special ecumenical way of thinking. From that knowledge and sense of right and wrong, the church accelerated a lot of critical and significant decisions all the way through the history of Hong Kong. Prominently, it is a brand new perspective to study the role of church in Hong Kong history. There is no other work had been done on the history of Hong Kong Christianity in the ecumenical perspective. I aspire that we could gain a lot of new knowledge and ideas from this ecumenical perspective. / My research will examine the history of Hong Kong in the eighties in particular. Hong Kong went through drastic changes in the period. Politically, we faced the issue of sovereignty handover. Economically, we met the gigantic development in the property and stock market. Socially, we encountered extreme disparity between the rich and the poor. We are in the kairos (decisive moment of our time) of the history. The Hong Kong Christian Council had launched series of seminars and conferences throughout the eighties. The most influential conference is the mission consultation conference of the church in Hong Kong in the eighties. My research will examine this conference deeply and analyze the relationship between the church and the development of Hong Kong. I endeavor to give the reader a point of view of this rich and condense Hong Kong history in the eighties. / Nowadays, Hong Kong is in the very moment after the return to China. We are still searching for Hong Kong identity. We are still struggling for the better and more suitable way of living politically, economically and socially. Our history is our power. Rezeption und Anerkennung : die ökumenische Hermeneutik von Paul Ricœur im Spiegel aktueller Dialogprozesse in Frankreich / Réception et reconnaissance : l'herméneutique œcuménique de Paul Ricœur à la lumière de processus œcuméniques actuels en France / Reception and recognition : the ecumenical hermeneutics of Paul Ricœur in light of current ecumenical processes in France

Bengard, Beate 10 February 2014 (has links)
Our dissertation deals with the ecumenical hermeneutics of the French philosopher Paul Ricœur. The interest of his theory for the ecumenical theology lies in the field of the ecumenical reception. What makes the ecumenical reception so specific is the fact, that it requires the acceptation of the otherness – the alterity – of the ecumenical partner. Obviously, this process goes far beyond the ratification of ecumenical documents. In order to clarify the process of reception, we need a hermeneutical model explaining the interrelation of the interpersonal recognition of the otherness, the reception of texts and the change of collective identities. We deduce a complex model of the reception process from the theory of Paul Ricœur and we compare the model of Ricœur with three concrete ecumenical processes in France. As we see, there is a high degree of accordance between these examples and Ricœurs hermeneutics. In chapter 6, we give a summary in French.

Some mission societies since Lausanne 1974

Pruitt, Harold Edward 23 May 2007 (has links)
This topic, "Some Mission Societies Since Lausanne 1974" is an examination of the impact of Lausanne 1974 on the Global Church through ParaChurch organizations. There is a Focus on DAWN as a Movement. The topic was chosen due to the fact that mission organization scholars from agencies such as the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Dawn Ministries, YWAM, and A.D. 2000 consider Lausanne 1974 to be a watershed event in evangelical missions. Lausanne 1974 renewed evangelical vision of missions and gave new direction to mission organizations. This dissertation explores those claims. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th (Missiology) Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology
