Esta pesquisa trata de artes visuais e artes gráficas no Rio Grande do Sul na primeira metade do século XX, tomando como objeto de estudo livros ilustrados por artistas plásticos e com selo da Editora Globo. São analisadas as obras e trajetórias dos três principais artistas ligados à antiga Seção de Desenho da empresa: João Fahrion, Edgar Koetz e Nelson Boeira Faedrich. Envolvendo um amplo levantamento historiográfico e de fontes primárias até então não sistematizadas, a tese apresenta e contextualiza as inovações presentes na obra gráfica desses artistas, discute de que forma tal experiência influenciou suas poéticas (voltadas principalmente à pintura e à gravura), bem como seus reflexos na constituição de uma modernidade visual no Estado. / This research deals with visual and graphic arts in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul in the first half of the twentieth century. Books illustrated by plastic artists and published by Editora Globo are studied here. The works and paths of the three main artists associated with the Company’s old Drawing Section are analyzed; they are João Fahrion, Edgar Koetz, and Nelson Boeira Faedrich. A wide historiographic survey is carried out, including primary sources never systematized before. The innovations in the graphic work of those three artists are presented and contextualized. The way in which that innovative experience influenced those artists’ poetics (turned mainly on painting and illustration) is discussed, as well as its effects on building a visual modernity in Rio Grande do Sul.

Alena Fry Dissertation Abstract Edgar Allan Poe in Czech Reception: Translation and Interpretation History The doctoral thesis investigates the history of Edgar Allan Poe's reception in Czech culture from the 1850s to the present. Its aim is to scrutinize how the author's image has been shaped and reshaped over the course of time by various book editions, interpretive approaches and key translations, and what socio-cultural, literary or individual factors contributed to these transformations. The thesis is intended to contribute to the understanding of the history of Czech literary translation and of Czech literature's intercultural affinities. Chapter 1 defines the research goal, presents the theoretical background and outlines the structure of the thesis. It reveals the inseparableness of Poe's image as the author and the man, i.e. the Poe "myth" that started developing during Poe's lifetime, and the necessity to also account for it when studying his Czech reception. Chapter 2 focuses on the period up to the early 1890s and examines the earliest interpretations. These were strongly influenced by R. W. O campo educacional, tido como inadequado às demandas atuais da “nova ordem mundial”, apresenta-se como um complexo fundamental às disposições ideológicas necessárias à reprodução do sistema. Desse modo, torna-se comum a disseminação de pseudo teorias que ratificam a lógica do capital, a exemplo da teoria da complexidade, nosso objeto de investigação, difundida por Edgar Morin como a perspectiva imperiosa à operacionalização da reforma do pensamento que, para ele, é o urgente desafio a ser enfrentado se almejarmos romper com a pré-história da humanidade. Este trabalho tem como objetivo apontar os encontros ideológicos entre a perspectiva moriniana da Complexidade (pensamento complexo) e a formação da sociabilidade exigida pelo capital atualmente, que tem no projeto de educação para o futuro um de seus artifícios nucleares. Tal projeto, liderado por organismos a serviço da reprodução da ordem vigente, entre eles o Banco Mundial e a UNESCO, é legitimado através de eventos de âmbito global e da adoção de teorizações que corroboram, de uma forma ou de outra, com as determinações por eles fixadas. Ao confrontarmos o ideário reformista de Morin com os objetivos postos em curso pelo capital, concluímos que as proposições do autor francês são uma importante contribuição aos anseios burgueses, tanto pela supressão da contradição inconciliável entre trabalho e capital que resulta na presente condição da sociedade de classes, a qual impede a verdadeira história do mundo dos homens, quanto pelo fato da proposta de Morin não ultrapassar, sob qualquer aspecto, os limites permitidos pela lógica da produção de mercadorias, sendo esta, diga-se de passagem, o vetor primário da fragmentação do conhecimento por ele mesmo criticada. Disso decorre que o ideário moriniano situa-se no campo das teorizações que apontam para a possibilidade de humanização do capital, o que tem se mostrado uma preciosa mistificação (Mészáros, 2009). Nossa análise trouxe como fundamentação teórica a ontologia marxiana-lukacsiana, apontando, por essa via, que a emergência da autêntica humanidade só é possível mediante a completa superação da ordem do capital, horizonte em direção ao qual a reforma do pensamento alardeada por Morin é incapaz de nos fazer caminhar.

Os métodos e os recursos narrativos de que o escritor dispõe são variados. A sua instauração gera uma relação entre ambos de valores estéticos e narrativos muitas vezes diferentes para cada obra. Cada escritor projeta-os segundo a sua concepção estético-literária e ao seu estilo. Partindo deste axioma, que é a existência do espaço e do tempo como categorias narrativas, analisamos duas obras literárias específicas: o conto “O gato preto”, de Edgar Allan Poe, e o romance O Processo, de Franz Kafka. A partir da análise das respectivas obras, verificamos como ambas as categorias narrativas se apresentam em um conto e em um romance e como elas auxiliam na obtenção de efeitos pré-definidos, como, por exemplo, os efeitos elencados na filosofia da composição e no realismo fantástico, respectivamente. Objetivamos ressaltar as especificidades de como Poe e Kafka retratam o espaço e o tempo em ambas narrativas. Pretendemos estudar, desta forma, os principais aspectos narrativos do conto e do romance em questão de modo a ressaltar as suas especificidades, elencando as suas funções narrativas, para tanto trabalhamos com os conceitos de espaço tópico e descrito, além dos aspectos do tempo a partir do nível narrativo e do nível diegético / Space and Time are structural elements of fundamental importance in literary narrative, and may take several functions. The methods and narrative procedures the writer arranges are diverse. Their establishment generate a relationship between them which aesthetic and narrative values are often different for each work. Each writer designs them according to their style, as well as their aesthetic-literary conceptions. From this axiom, which is the existence of space and time as narrative categories, we analyze two specific literary works: the short story called The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe, and the novel The Judgment by Franz Kafka. Drawing on the analysis of their works, we see how both categories are presented in a short story and in a novel and how they assist in achieving predefined effects, such as the ones listed in “The Philosophy of Composition” and in the Fantastic Realism, respectively. Our aim is to highlight the specificities of how Poe and Kafka portray Space and Time in both narratives. By doing so, we intend to study the main narrative aspects of the short story and the novel in question so as to highlight their specific features, listing their narrative functions. Therefore, the concepts of topic and described Space, in addition to the aspects of Time from the narrative and diegetic levels are focused

O trabalho tem por objetivo verificar de que forma os avanços científicos e tecnológicos da humanidade influenciaram a obra de Edgar Allan Poe e de Machado de Assis. A análise propõe revelar o olhar desses escritores acerca das novas possibilidades que eram oferecidas à sociedade com o intuito maior de evidenciar o papel da literatura nesse processo, uma vez que o homem é capaz de enxergar todo o comportamento de uma época e, conseqüentemente, a si mesmo, através da obra literária. Essa atitude de “olhar para trás” e para “dentro de si mesmo”, acredita-se, permite que o homem avance ainda mais. Para realizar a análise proposta, a pesquisa utiliza-se de conceitos como o de intertextualidade e interdisciplinaridade, muito caros à Literatura Comparada, com o fim de promover relações entre as diferentes áreas do saber – Literatura e Ciência –, entre os diferentes escritores e, por fim, entre os diversos gêneros literários que constituem o corpus do presente estudo. Após um breve panorama da história do desenvolvimento dos avanços científicos e tecnológicos da humanidade, procede-se às análises dos textos selecionados, procurando apontar e relacionar o pensamento dos escritores, provando que idéias sobre os avanços científicos e tecnológicos estão presentes na produção literária de cada um. Por fim, após o confronto estabelecido durante todo o trabalho entre o pensamento e o posicionamento dos escritores, discutese o papel da literatura no desenvolvimento e avanço da humanidade. / The paper aims to verify how the writings of Edgar Allan Poe and Machado de Assis had been influenced by the humanity' scientific and technological advances. The analysis proposes to reveal the sight of these two writers over the new possibilities that had been offered to the society, with the main objective of emphasizing the literature role in this process, considering that the human being is able to see the behavior of an entire period of time and consequently to himself through the literary work. This action of “looking back” and of “looking inside”, believes this research, allows him advance still more. In order to do that, the research takes some concepts as intertextuality and interdisciplinarity, extremely valued to the Comparative Literature, with the main objective of promoting relations between the different areas of knowledge – Literature and Science –, between the two different writers and, in the end, among the various literary genres that take part of the corpus of this study. After a brief view of the humanity history of scientific and technological advances development, the analysis of the selected texts is performed, endeavoring to emphasize and make the relation between the ways of thinking of these writers, proving that specific ideas about science and its advances really are in the literary production of each other. In the end, after the confrontation established during all over the research between the thinking and the position of the writers, the literature role in the humanity’s development and advance is discussed.

Propõe-se compreender o Terreiro de Candomblé como espaço de aprendizagem, onde o trágico ganha um contorno pela sua plasticidade, movimento e complexidade que povoa o Cotidiano e a vida do Povo do Santo. Assim, a Educação no Axé ganha uma dimensão política e epistemológica na medida em que as vozes do Terreiro se revelam formando uma ética e uma estética do estar – junto, edificando uma Pedagogia que se constrói na experiência vivida e partilhada com a tribo do Candomblé. Intensifica-se assim, os laços existentes entre os vários aspectos da iniciação pedagógica e do mimetismo, dando um contorno a essa tragédia que faz do Candomblé um espaço vital, alegre e festivo, instaurando aí uma viscosidade nas relações humanas fruto das relações pedagógicas, ontológicas e existenciais entre os Pais e Filhos de Santo. No entanto, a Tese versa-se em torno de um relato que testemunha a gestão de uma vida e das relações dionisíacas que estabeleci com o Povo do Santo, a partir das jornadas que percorri desde o meu processo- de- iniciaçãopedag ógica, entregando-me a essa sensibilidade diante dos signos do Candomblé. It purposes to comprehend the "Yard of Ritual" of Candomblé as a space for learning, where the tragic gets an outline by its plasticity, movement and complexity which fills up the Holy People everyday and life. Thus, education according to Axé gets a political and epistemological dimension while the voices of the "Yard of ritual" reveal themselves forming ethics and esthetics of being - together, building the pedagogy that is constituted through the living and sharing experience with the tribe of Candomblé. It intensifies like this, the links among the several aspects of the pedagogical initiation, of mimetiza, giving appearance to this tragedy that turns Candomblé a vital space, happy and festive, establishing then a viscosity in the human relationship as a product of the pedagogical, ontological and existential relationship between "Parents and Children from Saints". However, the Thesis studies about a description which testifies a gestion of a life and of the dionysical relationship that I established with the Holy People, it starts from the journey that I went through since my pedagogical-process-of-initiation, handing me over this sensibility before the signs of Candomblé. Thus, I try to decipher the mythological and sacred space of the Orixás. I purpose, in other words, to show the voice of the "Yard of ritual", into a magic as a result of the human conjunction that is formed inside the "Yard of ritual" and that turns this religion a true art work. I establish a mixing up among the Philosophical Anthropology and the Education, going into the theorical cross-roads of Michel Maffesoli, Martin Heidegger, Edgar Morin, Georges Balandier, Nietzsche, Deleuze, Gilbert Durand e René Girard.
