The analysis of the manuals of etiquette in the |new| social settings was the research object of the present study, specifically, with regard to forms of discipline of behavior in contemporary society. We assumed that the speeches contained in these manuals of etiquette generate senses and meanings among the social groups producing interchangeable roles in manners and behaviors of individuals who supposedly coexist harmonically in any spheres of social conviviality. Thus, we investigated if the printed label manuals would occupy some space in contemporary Brazilian society amid a media information multidimensional universe, where face-to-face interaction can be mediated by virtual interactions. And why the manuals of etiquette? By performing as the more traditional means of teaching and playing rules of civility. In a large universe of information within the virtual space and networked, they continue to be extensively published in Brazil, even with quick reprints and code updates. Analyzing the forms of aesthetic and functional discipline of the body in the society of consumption, with empirical reference manuals of etiquette in the 21st century, was the general objective that has guided this study. We opted for the bibliographical research supported in AD-discourse analysis, because it enabled us to understand what the speeches of etiquette manuals have to say about the society in which it operates, since it´s a parcel her that legislates these codes and extends the exercise of reproduction. Finally, we consider that the manuals of etiquette more than a |tom| providential used today are not simply certain rules; for everything there is an argument. A range of options is shown to readers. Fitting the same mediate the right decisions. If there is a concept of right; There are preconditions. If the editorial market invests in segment, is because there are expansive consumers, even with the widespread speech of the individualities, subjectivities, the freedom of action. / A análise da influência dos manuais de etiqueta nas novas configurações sociais constituiu o objeto de pesquisa do presente estudo, especificamente, no tocante às formas de disciplinamento dos comportamentos na sociedade contemporânea. Partimos do pressuposto que os discursos contidos nesses manuais de etiqueta geram sentidos e significações entre os grupos sociais engendrando papéis intercambiáveis nos modos e comportamentos dos indivíduos que, supostamente, coexistem harmonicamente em quaisquer esferas do convívio social. Desse modo, investigamos se os manuais de etiqueta impresso ocupariam ainda algum espaço na sociedade brasileira contemporânea em meio a um universo midiático de informações multidimensionais, onde a interação face a face pode ser mediada pelas interações virtuais. E por que os manuais de etiqueta? Por se apresentar como o mais tradicional meio de ensinamento e reprodução de regras de civilidade. Num amplo universo de informações dentro do espaço digital e em rede, eles continuam sendo extensivamente publicados no Brasil, inclusive com rápidas reedições e atualizações de códigos. Analisar as formas de disciplinamento estético e funcional do corpo na sociedade do consumo, tendo como referência empírica os manuais de etiqueta do século XXI, foi o objetivo geral que norteou esse estudo. Optamos pela pesquisa bibliográfica apoiada na AD - Análise do Discurso, porque nos possibilitou compreender o quê os discursos dos manuais de etiqueta tem a dizer sobre a sociedade em que se insere, já que é uma parcela dela que legisla esses códigos e amplia o exercício da reprodução. Por fim, consideramos que os manuais de etiqueta muito mais do que um tom providencial utilizado na atualidade, não são regras simplesmente determinadas; para tudo existe uma explicação, uma informação a mais, uma argumentação. Pois, um leque de opções é demostrado aos leitores. Cabendo aos mesmos mediar às decisões certas. Se existe um conceito de certo, existem predeterminações. Se o mercado editorial investe no segmento, é porque há público consumidor expansivo, mesmo com o propagado discurso do respeito às individualidades, às subjetividades, á liberdade de ação.

[pt] A presente dissertação propõe uma investigação de dois textos do autor espanhol Baltasar Gracián (1601- 1658): El Discreto (1646) e A Arte da Prudência (1647), cujo título original é Oráculo Manual e A Arte da Prudência. A partir da leitura de ambos os trabalhos são esboçadas algumas peculiaridades da monarquia absolutista de Filipe IV (1621-1665). Valores e conceitos como engenho, discrição e etiqueta que estavam presentes na vida dos homens de corte, são retomados aqui a fim de desenvolver a pesquisa e contribuir na compreensão da vida em sociedade durante o século XVII. Para o melhor aproveitamento dos textos é estabelecido um debate sobre diferentes conceitos do Barroco, que foram produzidos em diferentes momentos por autores distintos. É a partir da compreensão das características do Discreto e do Barroco que se pode concluir a importância dos textos selecionados, não apenas para a sociedade espanhola, como para outras cortes da Europa Ocidental. Desta maneira, os textos de Gracián são de fundamental importância para formar um quadro da monarquia espanhola do século XVII e dos homens que a constituíam. / [en] This dissertation aims an investigation of two texts of the Spanish s author Baltasar Gracián: El Discreto and Arte da Prudência, which original title is Oráculo manual e Arte da Prudência. Based at the reading of both works are delineated some particularities of Filipe s IV absolutist monarchy. Valours and concepts as ingeniousness, discernment and etiquette, which were presents at the life of court s man, are recapturing here to develop the investigation and contribute at the understanding of the society s life during the 17th century. For the best exploitation of the texts, is established a debate about the different concepts of baroque, which were created at different moments by distinct authors. Is based on the comprehension of the Discreto and baroque s characteristics that it is possible to conclude the importance of the selective texts, not only for the Spanish society, but also for the others courts of the western Europe. So, the Gracián s texts have a fundamental importance to portray the Spanish monarchy of the 17th century and the men who formatted it.

[pt] Precursora na formação de manequins e candidatas a miss no Brasil, a Socila ficou conhecida por ser uma escola de etiqueta para mulheres, sinônimo de elegância no Brasil dos anos 1950 e 1960. Fazer Socila significava aprender sobre embelezamento, vestuário e educação do corpo, configurando um aperfeiçoamento social. A despeito do seu auge ter sido nos anos 1960, a Socila continua sendo mencionada na imprensa, sem nunca ter sido objeto de estudo. Nesta pesquisa se pretende contar a história da escola e de sua fundadora, Maria Augusta, que ensinou etiqueta para a família Kubitschek, circulou na alta roda mundial e inspirou personagem em série de TV, buscando compreender as narrativas de feminilidade e socialização ensinadas às mulheres dos anos 1950 e 1960, tomando a escola como partícipe da construção de um imaginário normatizador de feminilidade, de um habitus (BOURDIEU, 1983). A hipótese é que entre opressão e emancipação, Maria Augusta teria sido uma mediadora para mulheres, a partir de um capital feminino que lhes possibilitava participar da vida social, fora dos recônditos do lar. Com o tempo, entretanto, o aperfeiçoamento social se desloca do aprendizado da etiqueta para um aperfeiçoamento corporal, mediante intervenções estéticas no corpo. As narrativas na imprensa sobre a Socila, sobretudo nas revistas Manchete e O Cruzeiro e no jornal O Globo, ajudam a recontar a história, além do conteúdo de quatro apostilas com os ensinamentos ministrados por Maria Augusta, cotejado a entrevistas. / [en] A precursor in training models and miss candidates in Brazil, Socila became known for being a school of etiquete for women, synonymous of elegance in the 1950s and 1960s. Doing Socila meant learning about beauty, clothing and body education, becaming a social improvement. Despite its heyday being in the 1960s, Socila continues to be mentioned in the press, without ever having been an object of study. In this research, we intend to tell the story of the school and its founder, Maria Augusta, who taught etiquete to the president Kubitschek s family and inspired a character in a TV series, seeking to understand the narratives of feminity and socialization taught to women, taking the school as a participant in the construction of a normative imaginary of feminity, of a habitus (BOURDIEU, 1983). The hypothesis is that between oppression and emancipation, Maria Augusta would have been a mediator for women, based on a female capital that allowed them to participate in social life, outside the confines of home. However, social improvement shifts from learning etiquette to body improvement, through aesthetic interventions in the body. The narratives in the press about Socila help to tell the story, in addition to the content of four handouts with the teachings given by Maria Augusta and interviews.

A presente tese discute a comunicação como fator dependente da interação e da cortesia linguísticas inseridas nos manuais de etiqueta, visando a identificar explícita e implicitamente as estratégias interacionais apresentadas por três autores, escolhi-dos como corpus, os quais compõem três guias de comportamento: 1)Marcelino por Claudia: o guia de boas maneiras de Marcelino de Carvalho interpretado por Claudia, de Claudia Matarazzo; 2)Etiqueta Século XXI: um guia prático de boas ma-neiras para os novos tempos, de Celia Ribeiro; 3)Sempre, às vezes, nunca: etiqueta e comportamento, de Fabio Arruda. Destes três manuais, foram escolhidas algu-mas partes que cabiam à análise proposta. A pesquisa busca embasamento nas perspectivas da Análise da Conversação (AC) e na Sociolinguística Interacional (SI). Essas bases possuem duas linhas dorsais, com estudos sobre interações e cor-tesia linguística. Dá-se ainda uma visão panorâmica dos três livros pertencentes ao corpus, com uma breve análise da variação linguística. Investiga-se também a utili-dade desses manuais na melhoria dos níveis de interação social. A análise dos mar-cadores de cortesia percorre os critérios de correção, atenuadores, modalizadores, formas de tratamento e situações de ameaça às faces, visando a encontrar respos-tas para os questionamentos da pesquisa. Quanto aos aspectos comportamentais da cortesia são pouco mencionados, exceto os que estão inseridos no contexto fala ou na intenção de fala. O estudo parte de um ponto de vista sobre a cortesia linguís-tica; teoria de ameaça às faces positiva e negativa, concentrando-se na linguagem de interesse social e na interação entre indivíduos ou grupos. / This thesis discusses communication as an interaction-dependent factor and linguis-tic politeness inserted in etiquette manuals, in order to explicit and implicitly identify the interactional strategies presented by three authors chosen as corpus, which is comprised of some parts chosen from three manuals of behavior: 1) Marcelino by Claudia: the guide to good manners by Marcelino de Carvalho interpreted by Clau-dia, by Claudia Matarazzo; 2) 21st Century Etiquette: a practical guide to good manners for modern times, by Celia Ribeiro; 3) Always, sometimes, never: etiquette and behavior, by Fabio Arruda. This research seeks to establish the bases for per-spectives in Conversation Analysis (CA) and in Interactional Sociolinguistics (IS). These theorical bases have two dorsal structures or chief ideas, with studies on lin-guistic interactions and politeness. It gives still a birds-eye view of the three books belonging to the corpus, with a brief analysis of linguistic variation. It also investigates the usefulness of these manuals in the improvement of social interaction levels. The analysis of politeness markers traverses the criteria for correction, attenuators, modalizations (a speakers attitude towards their own utterance), forms of treatment, and faces threatening acts (FTA), in order to find answers to the researchs posing questions. Behavioral aspects of courtesy are mentioned only when inserted into speech context or its intention. The study originates from a point of view about lin-guistic politeness; threatening theory on positive and negative faces, focusing on the language of social interest, with the purpose of continuity of interaction between indi-viduals or groups.

FundaÃÃo de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Cearà / CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / nÃo hà / Os estudos sobre a polidez lingÃÃstica buscam investigar o comportamento verbal adotado pelos indivÃduos com a finalidade de evitar ou reduzir possÃveis conflitos em suas interaÃÃes. Considerando que a maioria das pesquisas sobre o tema restringem-se Ãs interaÃÃes face a face e que, atualmente, muitas relaÃÃes sociais se estabelecem em ambientes virtuais de interaÃÃo, propomos analisar de que forma os participantes de uma sala de bate-papo empregam as estratÃgias e regras pragmÃticas de polidez lingÃÃstica em suas interaÃÃes e com que finalidade eles as utilizam. Para tanto, selecionamos 23 conversas realizadas no ambiente pÃblico de uma sala de bate-papo direcionada para pessoas com mais de 50 anos, no perÃodo de dezembro de 2006 à maio de 2007. A anÃlise foi constituÃda a partir da congregaÃÃo dos modelos de anÃlise da polidez lingÃÃstica propostos por Brown e Levinson (1987) e Leech (1983; 2005). Os resultados demonstram que, apesar do anonimato, os participantes da sala de bate-papo constroem e preservam as identidades construÃdas na sala, e nela estabelecem vÃnculos interacionais, demonstrando uma intimidade, marcada por meio: a) do tom descontraÃdo das conversas; b) do uso de marcadores de identidade e grupo; c) da manifestaÃÃo de simpatia e afeto; e d) da preocupaÃÃo em reduzir o peso e associaÃÃo com um ato ameaÃador de face (FTA). A partir destes resultados, podemos concluir que o envolvimento, a intimidade e o conhecimento entre um participante e outro, dentro e fora do ambiente virtual, sÃo fatores que interferem na escolha das estratÃgias e regras pragmÃticas de polidez lingÃÃstica. / Studies on Linguistic Politeness urge to investigate the verbal behavior adopted by the individuals whose goal itâs to avoid or reduce possible conflicts in their interactions. Assuming that the majority of research about the theme is restricted as face-to-face interactions, and further more, nowadays, many social relationships are established on interactional virtual environments. We propose to analyze in which way the partakers in a chat room use strategies and pragmatic constraints of linguistic politeness on their interactions and under which purpose they are used. Therefore were selected 23 chats that took place in a public environment of a chat room directed to people over 50 from December (2006) to May (2007).The analyze was constituted by the correlation of analyzesâ models of linguistic politeness presented by Brown and Levinson (1987) and Leech (1983; 2005). The results show that, in spite of the anonymity, the partakers of the chat room build and preserve the identities assembled in the chat room, and in the chat room they establish interactional ties, presenting an intimacy distinguished by: a) the jokey tone of the conversations; b) the use of identity and in-group markers; c) the manifest of sympathy and affection; and d) the concern to reduce the weight and the association to face threaten act (FTA).From these results, we can conclude that the involvement, the intimacy, and the knowledge among the partakers, in and out of virtual environment, are factors that interfere the choice of strategies and pragmatic constraints of linguistic politeness

[pt] O presente estudo tem como objetivo investigar a trajetória da literatura de civilidade e dos manuais de etiqueta no Brasil, refletindo sobre aspectos centrais do contexto histórico e cultural em que estiveram inseridos. Utilizando o conceito de processo civilizador, de Norbert Elias, buscou-se compreender a conjuntura histórica que marcou a chegada deste tipo de literatura ao Brasil, especialmente sob a forma de manuais de etiqueta, como consequência da europeização dos costumes iniciada com a vinda da corte portuguesa para o Rio de Janeiro. Empreendeu-se uma análise dos discursos presentes em dois manuais de etiqueta: Novo Manual do Bom Tom (Verardi, [1857] 1900) e Guia de Boas Maneiras (Carvalho, [1961] 1966). Buscou-se traçar pontos de transformação e de permanências dos comportamentos nos dois manuais, enfocando aspectos da higiene, funções corporais, controle dos gestos e hábitos à mesa. A dissertação discute em que medida os discursos normativos trazidos pela literatura de civilidade podem ser vistos como reveladores das engrenagens do consumo e da sociedade moderna. / [en] This research aims to investigate the trajectory of the literature on civility and the manuals of etiquette in Brazil, reflecting upon core aspects of the histori-cal and cultural context in which they were placed. Using Norbert Elias s concept of civilizing process, it was sought to understand the historical context that marked the arrival of this type of literature in Brazil, especially in the form of eti-quette manuals, as a consequence of the Europeanization of customs initiated with the coming of the Portuguese Court to Rio de Janeiro. An analysis of the discourses present in two manuals of etiquette: New Manual of Good Taste (Verardi, [1857] 1900) and Guide of Good Manners (Carvalho, [1961] 1966) were undertaken. It was sought to draw points of transformation and permanence of the behaviors in the two manuals, focusing on aspects of hygiene, body functions, control of gestures and habits at the table. This work discusses how the normative discourses brought by the literature of civility may reveal the gears of the con-sumption and also the modern society.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar, através da técnica de macroarranjo de cDNA, o perfil de expressão de genes promotores das diferentes vias metabólicas em palmitos da variedade de cana-de-açúcar SP80-3280 submetidas ao estresse hídrico nos dias 5, 9, 13 e 17 após o início da condição de supressão de água, sendo considerado o dia 1 como controle. Os resultados do macroarranjo mostraram que as proteínas mais expressas sob déficit hídrico pertencem a quatro categorias das quais as ESTs mais importantes foram selecionadas. As quatro categorias descritas abaixo estão discutidas neste trabalho. As ESTs da via do metabolismo de açúcar e amido (invertase de parede celular (INV), sacarose fosfato sintase (SFS), sacarose fosfato fosfatase (SFF), trealose fosfato sintase (TFS), trealose fosfato sintase/fosfatase (TFS/F) e hexoquinase (HXQ)) pertencem a categoria de bioenergética. Colina monooxigenase (CMO) e betaína aldeído desidrogenase (BADH) as quais pertencem a via do metabolismo de glicina betaína, foram selecionadas a partir da categoria do metabolismo secundário. A terceira categoria compreende as ESTs do metabolismo de aminoácido (D-pirrolina-5- carboxilato sintase (P5CS), ornithina -aminotransferase (OAT) e prolil 4-hidroxilase (PH)) as quais pertencem a via da biossíntese de prolina, e a quarta categoria, resposta ao estresse, compreende as ESTs aleno oxido sintase (AOS), aleno oxido ciclase (AOC) e lipoxigenase (LOX), pertencentes a via de biossíntese do jasmonato. / Under water deficit, sugarcane undergoes physiological and biochemical alterations such as photochemical activity reduction, CO2 fixation reduction and the accumulation of osmolytes and osmoprotectants. This work was undertaken to identify the gene expression profile in sugarcane (var. SP80-3280) under water deficit through the cDNA macroarray technique. Leafroll tissues were collected from plants subjected to 5, 9, 13 and 17 days of water restriction, and day 1 was used as control. Macroarray results showed that most proteins expressed under water restriction belong to four categories, from which the most important ESTs were selected. The four categories described below are discussed in this work. Sugar and starch metabolism pathway ESTs (cell wall invertase (CWI), sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), sucrose phosphate phosphatase (SPP), trehalose phosphate synthase (TPS), trehalose phosphate synthase phosphatase (TSP/P) and hexoquinase (HXQ) were selected from the bioenergetics category. Choline monooxygenase (CMO) and betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase (BADH), which belong to the glycine betaine metabolism pathway, were selected from the secondary metabolism category. The third category comprised the amino acid metabolism ESTs D- pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthase (P5CS), Ornithine - aminotransferase (OAT) and Prolyl 4-hydroxylase (PH), which belong to the proline biosynthesis pathway, and the fourth category, stress response, comprised the ESTs for Allene oxide synthase (AOS), Allene oxide cyclase (AOC) and Lipoxygenase (LOX), which belong to the jasmonate biosynthesis pathway.

Destes três manuais, foram escolhidas algu-mas partes que cabiam à análise proposta. A pesquisa busca embasamento nas perspectivas da Análise da Conversação (AC) e na Sociolinguística Interacional (SI). Essas bases possuem duas linhas dorsais, com estudos sobre interações e cor-tesia linguística. Dá-se ainda uma visão panorâmica dos três livros pertencentes ao corpus, com uma breve análise da variação linguística. Investiga-se também a utili-dade desses manuais na melhoria dos níveis de interação social. A análise dos mar-cadores de cortesia percorre os critérios de correção, atenuadores, modalizadores, formas de tratamento e situações de ameaça às faces, visando a encontrar respos-tas para os questionamentos da pesquisa. Quanto aos aspectos comportamentais da cortesia são pouco mencionados, exceto os que estão inseridos no contexto fala ou na intenção de fala. O estudo parte de um ponto de vista sobre a cortesia linguís-tica; teoria de ameaça às faces positiva e negativa, concentrando-se na linguagem de interesse social e na interação entre indivíduos ou grupos. / This thesis discusses communication as an interaction-dependent factor and linguis-tic politeness inserted in etiquette manuals, in order to explicit and implicitly identify the interactional strategies presented by three authors chosen as corpus, which is comprised of some parts chosen from three manuals of behavior: 1) Marcelino by Claudia: the guide to good manners by Marcelino de Carvalho interpreted by Clau-dia, by Claudia Matarazzo; 2) 21st Century Etiquette: a practical guide to good manners for modern times, by Celia Ribeiro; 3) Always, sometimes, never: etiquette and behavior, by Fabio Arruda. This research seeks to establish the bases for per-spectives in Conversation Analysis (CA) and in Interactional Sociolinguistics (IS). These theorical bases have two dorsal structures or chief ideas, with studies on lin-guistic interactions and politeness. It gives still a birds-eye view of the three books belonging to the corpus, with a brief analysis of linguistic variation. It also investigates the usefulness of these manuals in the improvement of social interaction levels. The analysis of politeness markers traverses the criteria for correction, attenuators, modalizations (a speakers attitude towards their own utterance), forms of treatment, and faces threatening acts (FTA), in order to find answers to the researchs posing questions. Behavioral aspects of courtesy are mentioned only when inserted into speech context or its intention. The study originates from a point of view about lin-guistic politeness; threatening theory on positive and negative faces, focusing on the language of social interest, with the purpose of continuity of interaction between indi-viduals or groups.
