Mental Status and Functional Behavior In Male Geriatric Patients

It was the goal of this study to examine the ecological validity of a number of measures of mental status for geriatric individuals. Subjects were 40 alert, ambulatory male VA patients. Mental status instruments included the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) and the Vocabulary subtest of the WAIS-R. Measures of functional behavior included the Woodcock-Johnson Scales of Independent Behavior (SIB) and the Parachek Geriatric Behavior Rating Scale (PGBRS). Significant relationships were found between the MMSE and the SIB, between the WMS and the SIB, and between the WMS and the PGBRS. It was found that estimation of functional behavior can be enhanced significantly through the use of battery of mental status instruments.

It is the standard practice in colleges and universities to administer to all entering students a battery of tests which are designed to measure the aptitude and ability of students. Each institution uses in its test battery those tests which are best suited to its particular needs, but in the main they consist of measures of general mental ability, the ability to understand and use the English language and the ability to understand and to use mathematical symbols. These tests are available to the institution through companies which construct and standardize tests of all kinds. In addition to these tests, others may be constructed by the departments of an institution and validated for use in that department or school. The test battery or the Utah State Agricultural College consists or a combination of these two types. The English examination is the Educational Testing Service Cooperative English test Battery, the Mathematics test is a department constructed test, originally designed and constructed by Dr. Arden N. Frandsen.

An Investigation into the skill levels achieved by mathematics students in the V.C.E. and the H.S.C. mathematics courses.

This study examines whether recent changes to the mathematics courses offered in the final year of secondary school (Year 12) in the state of Victoria, Australia have affected the learning outcomes of students in terms of then: skill levels in algebra, calculus and problem solving; and in terms of their preparation for a tertiary mathematics unit. The impact of these changes on the transition from secondary to tertiary mathematics is also considered. A comparison is made between students who attempted a first year mathematics unit at the University of Melbourne (U. of M.) having completed the new V.C.E. (Victorian Certificate of Education) mathematics courses and mathematics courses from the previous H.S.C. (Higher School Certificate) system. The comparison involves the use of tests administered upon entrance to a tertiary mathematics unit at the U. of M., and questionnaires. In 1991, V.C.E, students and H.S.C. students attempted the same mathematics test at the U. of M. and their results were compared. In 1992, the tests were attempted by V.C.E. students only. To compare new V.C.E. students and H.S.C. students, questions on the 1991 test were matched with similar questions on the 1992 tests and a panel of experts determined what the H.S.C. students who attempted the 1991 test would have been expected to average on these matched questions on the 1992 tests had they attempted them. These expected average scores were then compared with the actual scores of the new V.C.E. students. The scores of the groups were scaled when necessary. Questionnaires were administered to 1991 U. of M, mathematics students who were part of the V.C.E. pilot group in 1990, secondary mathematics educators, tertiary mathematics educators, and 1991 V.C.E. (1992 U. of M.) students. The mathematical misconceptions exhibited by new V.C.E. students are discussed and their frequencies stated. The research indicates that the new V.C.E. mathematics courses have provided the V.C.E. mathematics students in this study with significantly lower skill levels and a significantly poorer preparation for a tertiary mathematics unit than those which were previously provided by the H.S.C. mathematics courses.

「考試獨立」是中山先生五權憲法政治制度中,所提出的一項重要政治理念。其特色在於將人才政治的「人治」思想,納入現代「法治」思想的體系脈絡,成為「治人」與「治法」兼具的政治組織。   我國憲法,承襲中山先生的政治理念,成立五院制的中央政府體制,獨立設置「考試院」。近年由於「人事行政局」與「考試院」所引發的職權範圍之爭,而形成一股人事的憲政改革風潮,使「考試獨立」之意義歸趨模糊。任何一項政治制度組織,其建構的層次,總離不開政治文化面、法規面、實際運作面三種面向的解析。「考試獨立」之制度,亦不屬例外。本文之內容,即是準此三種面向,來探討中山先生「考試獨立」主張之主張之意涵。   首先以「人才政治」、「權能區分論」與「考試權之淵源」,探其基礎理論;並以中山先生之闡釋,明其內涵性質及思想背景;配合考試制度的發展概況,作一整體之觀察。

<p>Transfers of joint stock companies can be executed in several ways - for example by transferring individual shares or by transferring all shares or by selling the company's assets and liabilities. It is not fully clear which rules should apply to transfers of joint stock companies. Some legal experts claim that the Sales Act (Köplagen) is applicable, while others claim that the rules for promissory notes (Skuldebrevslagen) should apply. This distinction is of great significance regarding the extent of the vendor's liability. According to Skuldebrevslagen the vendor's liability is rather limited, while Köplagen enjoins the vendor a more extensive liability.A transfer of a joint stock company brings about great economical risks, both for the vendor and for the purchaser. Therefore it has become customary to execute a so-called due diligence, before the actual purchase takes place. The concept of due diligence derives from Anglosaxon law and appears in Sweden since the 1990's. The purchaser is allowed to examine the company before the purchase. Normally the purchaser engages expertise to do the actual investigation, for example a law firm. An interesting question is to what extent the actual examiner (i.e. the lawyer) can be considered liable.</p>

Lärarens kunskapsmål och elevernas resultat

<p>Abstrakt</p><p>Vid varje arbetsområde på högstadieskolan skall läraren presentera olika kunskapsmål som eleven skall nå upp till i slutet av arbetsområdet. Denna uppsats behandlar just detta ämne med inriktning på fyra elever i klass nio kring arbetsområdet andra världskriget. I detta arbetsområde har eleverna skrivit en rapport som skall behandla en övergripande bild kring andra världskriget. Elevernas rapporter bedöms här främst ur ett summativt perspektiv men till viss del även formativt. Resultatet av denna studie är att eleverna på ett eller annat sätt når upp till lärarens kunskapsmål men det finns tydlig problematik kring formuleringen av dem.</p>

Bemötande vid gynekologisk undersökning : Sett ur unga patienters perspektiv

<p>The aim of this study was to describe young women's experiences of midwives/ gynaecologists treatment in connection to gynaecological examination. A further aim was to achieve a better understanding of the factors that can form the basis of the experience of treatment. A qualitative study was performed in which the participants (N=10) was Swedish-speaking women aged 18-25 years, with experience of at least one gynaecological examination. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, using an interview guide. The material was analyzed according to Graneheim and Lundman´s (2004) method for qualitative content analysis. The results were presented based on the two overarching themes that were found; <em>The importance of a confirmatory communication</em> and <em>A respectful and empathic approach</em>. The twelve underlying categories represented the factors that gave rise to the experience of treatment. Under the theme <em>The importance of a confirmatory communication</em>, the following categories were placed: Continuous dialogue, Information, Choice of words and comments, Tone of voice, Confirmation and Non-verbal communication. The theme <em>A respectful and empathic approach</em> contained the following categories: Respectful, No set of values, Empathic, Responsive/conformed, Inviting and Easy-going approach. Conclusion: Women's experiences of treatment in connection to gynaecological examination were in general described in positive terms, but with some negative elements. The results of this study indicate a need for an individualized treatment which most likely should be characterized by the attitudes mentioned above.</p> / <p>Studiens syfte var att beskriva unga kvinnors upplevelser av barnmorskors/gynekologers bemötande i samband med gynekologisk undersökning. Vidare var syftet att uppnå en ökad kunskap för de faktorer som kan ligga till grund för upplevelsen av bemötandet. Studien var av kvalitativ ansats där deltagarna (N=10) var svensktalande kvinnor i åldrarna 18-25 år, med erfarenhet av minst en gynekologisk undersökning. Den kvalitativa forskningsintervjun användes som datainsamlingsmetod, där semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med hjälp av en intervjuguide. Materialet analyserades kvalitativt enligt Graneheim och Lundmans (2004) metod för innehållsanalys. Resultatet presenterades utifrån två funna övergripande teman; <em>Betydelsen av en bekräftande kommunikation </em>och <em>Ett respektfullt och empatiskt förhållningssätt. </em>De sammanlagt tolv underliggande kategorierna representerade de faktorer som låg till grund för upplevelsen av bemötandet. Under temat <em>Betydelsen av en bekräftande kommunikation </em>placerades följande kategorier: Kontinuerlig dialog, Information, Ordval och kommentarer, Tonfall, Bekräftelse samt Icke verbal kommunikation. Tema <em>Ett respektfullt och empatiskt förhållningssätt </em>utgjordes av kategorierna Respektfullt, Värderingsfritt, Empatiskt, Lyhört/anpassat, Inbjudande samt Lättsamt förhållningssätt. Slutsats: Kvinnornas upplevelser av bemötande i samband med gynekologisk undersökning beskrevs i övervägande positiva ordalag, dock med vissa negativa inslag. Studiens resultat indikerar ett behov av ett individanpassat bemötande vilket lämpligen karaktäriseras av ovan nämnda förhållningssätt.</p>
