Proceedings from the Fab 9 Research Stream 9th International Fablab Conference, 21-27 July 2013, Yokohama. / Since 2007, Latin America has incorporated a set of emerging techniques promoted under three initiatives: a) from the experience of Master and Doctoral students who return to their home countries and promote their experience, b) from the external academic experience that goes towards the region, and c) from self-learning. These experiences are developed in an academic area, unlike Europe or the U.S., where they were promoted from and to professional practice, with varying degrees of implementation and effect. Generally speaking, the academic programs of the region lack a policy of inclusion of systematized emerging technologies, and that produces a slow uptake, especially in architecture. On one hand, if educational policies are not stable, equipment investment cannot be stable, and on the other hand, the generation gap between those who promote and those who accept blends into disruption and status quo. Each implementation in the region produces adverse and complex patterns, replicating existing models and seeking alliances with institutions in developed countries. Thus, there are self-help groups, while others incorporate academic, technical and/or commercial supervisions, in principle through the Center for Bits and Atoms (MIT Fab Lab) and McNeel Associates (Rhino Fab Lab). In this research, we evidence evolution and implementation processes in Latin America of the three types of initiatives, analyzing the case study in Peru, which together open up the possibility of moving from a phase of experimentation, trial and error to another that actually promotes local innovation and inclusion.

La moda se mantiene en un cambio constante debido al entorno. Cada temporada los diseñadores crean colecciones y proponen nuevas tendencias que buscan responder las exigencias del público. A lo largo de los años, se ha notado un incremento significativo en el uso de la tecnología por parte de las personas. Es por ello que las nuevas tecnologías se han comenzado a fusionar con el indumento tradicional. En los últimos años, los diseñadores están cada vez más dispuestos a optar por este tipo de técnicas en sus colecciones. Pese a esto, aún se desconoce cómo es que la impresión 3D ha impactado en la industria de la moda en nuestro país. Por consiguiente, la presente investigación tiene como fin responder la siguiente pregunta: ¿Cuál es el impacto de la impresión 3D en la moda en Lima entre el 2016 y 2020? Para resolverlo, se debe conocer el desarrollo de esta tecnología y su definición de manera detallada. De igual manera, se busca describir cómo se aplica la impresión 3D en la moda en Lima. Para ello, se entrevistarán a 8 diseñadores peruanos que han realizado colecciones de moda utilizando esta tecnología. Para esta investigación se utilizará el método cualitativo con enfoque fenomenológico. Dicha información se obtendrá mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas con preguntas abiertas. Cabe mencionar que la presente investigación aportará un punto de partida como fuente de estudio para diversos proyectos académicos. / Fashion is constantly changing due to the environment. Each season designers create collections and propose new trends that seek to meet the demands of the public. Over the years, there has been a significant increase in the use of technology by people. That is why new technologies have begun to merge with traditional clothing. In recent years, designers are increasingly willing to opt for this type of technique in their collections. Despite this, it is still unknown how 3D printing has impacted the fashion industry in our country. Therefore, this research aims to answer the following question: What is the impact of 3D printing on fashion in Lima between 2016 and 2020? To solve it, you must know the development of this technology and its definition in detail. In the same way, it seeks to describe how 3D printing is applied in fashion in Lima. To do this, 8 Peruvian designers who have made fashion collections using this technology will be interviewed. For this research, the qualitative method with a phenomenological approach will be used. This information will be obtained through semi-structured interviews with open questions. It is worth mentioning that this research will provide a starting point as a source of study for various academic projects.

Cette thèse a pour objectif de mieux comprendre et d’accompagner les stratégies d’innovation des entreprises face aux défis liés à l’intensification de la dynamique et des changements de l’environnement économique. Or, afin de survivre à ces rythmes économiques, la littérature préconise aux organisations de concilier leurs activités d’exploitation et leurs activités d’exploration de façon concomitante. Dans ce cadre, notre travail étudie spécifiquement une stratégie d’innovation conférant une importance particulière aux initiatives des individus dans les activités d’exploration : l’ambidextrie contextuelle. Simultanément, notre recherche examine un objet de recherche jusque là inédit dans le milieu académique : le Fab Lab d’entreprise (ou Fab Lab interne). A la croisée des chemins de ces deux sujets, cette thèse pose la question du développement de l’ambidextrie contextuelle à l’aide d’un Fab Lab d’entreprise.L’étude de cas menée au sein de l’une des premières structures à développer cette pratique de Fab Lab d’entreprise – le Groupe Renault – définit cet outil de gestion comme une quasi-structure propice au développement de l’ambidextrie contextuelle. Elle présente ensuite le pilotage à mener afin de développer l’ambidextrie contextuelle à l’aide d’un Fab Lab d’entreprise. / This thesis aims to better understand and support corporate innovation strategies to help them coping with the challenges associated with the intensification of the dynamics and changes in the economic environment. However, in order to survive these economic rhythms, previous research recommends organizations to reconcile their exploitation and their exploration activities, concomitantly. In this context, our work specifically examines an innovation strategy giving particular attention to the initiatives of individuals in exploration activities : contextual ambidexterity. Simultaneously, our research examines an object of research previously unreleased in academic studies : the corporate Fab Lab (or internal Fab Lab). At the crossroads of these two subjects, this thesis raises the question of the development of contextual ambidexterity through a corporate Fab Lab. Our case study is conducted in Renault Group, one of the first structures to develop this practice of corporate Fab Lab. Our analysis permits to define this management tool as a quasi-structure conducive to the development of contextual ambidexterity. It then presents the guidance to lead in the objective of developing contextual ambidexterity through a corporate Fab Lab.

Hoje essas tecnologias estão cada vez mais acessíveis e baratas e têm se consolidado como grandes aliadas no processo de projeto em áreas como Arquitetura, Design e Engenharia. Ambientes como os Fab Labs têm auxiliado o processo de desenvolvimento de produto e a realização de experimentações através da prototipagem rápida e da fabricação digital, oferecendo de forma aberta, suporte na utilização de um conjunto de ferramentas digitais. Dessa forma, buscou-se, como objetivo geral neste trabalho, evidenciar o potencial dos Fab Labs como ambientes para o uso da fabricação digital e da prototipagem rápida no processo de projeto. Como forma de atingir esse objetivo, foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa, através de estudo de caso e por meio de entrevista com gestores de três Fab Labs situados no Brasil. Inicialmente, foi feita uma abordagem sobre temas como prototipagem rápida e fabricação digital, buscando o esclarecimento do tema e a formação do corpo teórico. A pesquisa bibliográfica abordou temas como tipos de protótipos e a importância do ato de prototipar. It aims to evaluate the relevance of Fabrication Laboratories (Fab Labs), in the city of São Paulo, as being auspicious environments to disruptive innovation and entrepreneurship, in the productive and social insertion scenario. There is a practical demand into Fab Labs, where visitors are allowed to build elements without prior design knowledge or drawing software. The method adopted in the research is qualitative and includes a data survey through interviews with the heads of four laboratories selected in the city of São Paulo, and, subsequently, the critical analysis of the data is made. It is questioned if the culture of manufacture would cause substantial mutations in a capitalist system and what would be the most appropriate practice to society. / Esta pesquisa investiga os meios de produção industrial em contraponto à proposta emergente de modelo contemporâneo de fabricação digital, na qual está inserida a cultura Maker e sua admissível interferência na materialização de mercadorias e sua relação com design, indústria e consumidor. Tem como objetivo avaliar a relevância dos laboratórios de fabricação digital (Fab Labs), na cidade de São Paulo, como ambientes propícios à inovação disruptiva e ao empreendedorismo, no cenário produtivo e de inserção social. Existe uma demanda prática nos Fab Labs, nos quais se permite aos frequentadores, construir elementos sem conhecimento prévio de projeto ou de softwares de desenho. O método adotado, na pesquisa, é o qualitativo, e inclui um levantamento de dados por meio de entrevistas aos responsáveis de quatro laboratórios selecionados na cidade de São Paulo; e, na sequência, faz-se a análise crítica dos dados. Questiona-se se a cultura de fabricação provocaria mutações substanciais em um sistema capitalista e qual seria a prática mais adequada à sociedade.

Se o nosso desejo opera por produção, registro e consumo, nas sociedades pré-industriais eles eram esferas da mesma subjetividade, mas com o surgimento do ‘casa de ferreiro espeto é de pau’, dos modelos de produção da sociedade industrial, começou-se a fabricar aquilo que não se consumia, e começou a se produzir muito. O registro se estabeleceu pelas narrativas que nos são despejadas diariamente, e o consumo, ora, é só o que fazemos. Essa dissociação do processo do viver impera sobre nós limitações cruéis. Identificamos aqui nosso foco: a despotencialização da subjetividade pela expropriação da produção desejante de si, pela introjeção de consumos pelas vias do capitalismo mundial integrado e que se registra pela lógica do mais-valor. E assim apontamos nossa hipótese: de que a reapropriação de máquinas desejantes das mais diversas pela experiência do fazer será capaz de acordar o corpo, despertar a mente e reativar os mecanismos do desejo no sujeito despotencializado. O objetivo geral deste trabalho é compreender as forças repressivas que atuam sobre os corpos numa dita sociedade pós-industrial e neoliberal e apontar o movimento maker como um modo de subjetivação que nos permita enfrentar tais forças repressivas, encontrando nos FAB LABs, e principalmente na rede FAB LAB Livre da cidade de São Paulo, a primeira e única rede de laboratórios públicos do mundo, apontamentos sobre como o empoderamento... If our desire functions through production, registration and consumption, in the pre-industrial society these were all spheres within the same subjectivity, but with the appearance of the “the shoemaker’s son always goes barefoot”, the mode of production in the industrial society, were have started producing that which we do not consume. The record was established by the narratives that are poured onto us daily, and consumption, well, that is just what we do. This dissociation of the process of living, reigns over us setting its cruel boundaries. Here we identify our focus: the depotentialization of subjectivity by the expropriation of desiring production itself, by the introjection of consumption through the paths of integrated world capitalism and registered by surplus value logic. And so, propose our hypothesis: that the re-appropriation of the most diverse desiring machines by the experience of doing, will be able to wake the body, awaken the mind and reactivate the mechanisms of desire in the depotentialized subject. The general objective of this work is to comprehend the repressive forces that act over bodies in the so called post-industrial and neoliberal society and indicate the maker movement as the mode of subjectivation that allows us to face these repressive forces, finding in FAB LABs, and mainly in the FAB LAB Livre SP network, in São Paulo, the first and only public laboratories network...
