The concepts and visions built are established as truths at the heart of this professional as an individual and are reflected to the classroom for him as a teacher. Rationale for the study was carried out a literature review of literature addressing this issue or that relate to it. Among them we can mention the bank and liberating education and problem solving. The sources consulted point to a relationship between these axes. Both converge in order to seek improvements in teaching. Thus, there was the need to understand how the math teachers of paraíba realize the error having as parameter absolutism and fallibilism. It was also a comparison of these views with the resolution of issues and banking and liberating education. The investigation was made through a semi-structured questionnaire. The same was applied to 70 state teachers of paradise. The research is qualitative. Among the results there is the approximation of the absolutist features of most respondents.

Realismo e Falibilismo: Um Contraponto entre Peirce e Popper / Realism and fallibilism: a counterpoint between Peirce and Popper

Santos, José Francisco dos 21 June 2006 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 JoseFranciscoDosSantos.pdf: 504225 bytes, checksum: b64321575f0c0633cd31e11254e237a0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-06-21 / Peirce and Popper developed their philosophies in different times, and Popper had a very superficial contact with Peirce works, insufficient so that these could influence in a decisive way his thought. In spite of, both develop quite convergent theories concerning to the fallibility of the science. The present work compares some points of these two authors' theories, trying to detach their common and divergent points, above all in what it refers to the realism, that appears as necessary to the background theory of the fallibilism. The undertaken analysis allows to conclude that the background of the realism in Peirce appears in a much more solid way than in Popper, once the first faces the subject in a wider spectrum, which allows to propose solutions for problems that, for Popper, they are still considered a mystery. The including realism of Peirce strengthens his falibillism, while the realism of Popper, can t overcome the notion of the common sense, that makes his falseacionism presents gaps and inconsistencies, that are discussed during this work. So, it is concluded that the peircean fallibilism includes the Popper falseacionism, once it discusses very similar problems and it opens ways for a wider discussion and more including solutions of the problems faced by both / Peirce e Popper desenvolveram suas filosofias em épocas diferentes, e Popper teve um contato muito superficial com as obras de Peirce, insuficiente para que estas pudessem influenciar de modo decisivo o seu pensamento.

Nilsson, Per January 2001 (has links)
The topic of this study is one specific area where the tension between instrumental rationality and value rationality becomes prominent: the question whether we have a rational responsibility for nature or not. Such a responsibility cannot be derived from instrumental reason, but it is argued that it can be derived from discourse ethics and communicative rationality. The study begins with an examination of Georg-Henrik von Wright's cultural criticism. It is argued that his subjectivist view of values limits reason to the realm of instrumental rationality. Horkheimer and Adorno's theory of instrumental reason is examined. They claim that instrumental reason, through the negative dialectics of the enlightenment, have created a vacuum with regard to values. Marcuse's anthropological solution to the problem of values, and his theory of an emancipatory science and technology, are examined and rejected as Utopian. The philosophy of Jürgen Habermas is examined, and it is shown how he solves the problem of his predecessors through the dual framework of work and interaction. His hypothesis of three knowledge- constitutive interests is analyzed, and it is concluded that a general theory of communication is needed in order to solve the problem of value rationality. It is shown how Habermas later theory of communicative rationality and discourse ethics overcomes the shortcomings of his earlier theory. It is argued, among other things, that his theory of communicative rationality is compatible with a correspondence theory of truth, ontological realism and epistemological fallibilism. Discourse ethics makes a rational discussion of values and norms possible. It is argued that it solves the problem of value rationality, but without providing a definition of the good or the right. It is shown that revisabilty is an important part of discourse ethics. This is manifested in the hypothetical status of discourse ethics, and in the revisability of the norms proposed. It is argued that we are in fact able to rationally propose a norm, which demands responsibility for nature within the framework of communicative rationality and discourse ethics, although such a norm must be the result of the outcome of a rational discourse and is itself, revisable. / digitalisering@umu

Thomas, Jean-Philippe 09 1900 (has links)
This thesis proposes an analysis of the epistemological role of complex scientific problems. Starting from the epistemological holism inherited from the philosophical positions of Pierre Duhem and Willard Van Orman Quine, and from the thesis that scientific practice is always based on a recognized theoretical and conceptual field, we develop a management model that proposes that researchers adopt a pragmatic attitude to react to complex problems. We explain in this research that these problems affect the applicability of theories and concepts that form scientific knowledge. To solve them, we must initiate research that will follow the steps of a pragmatic process to progressively assess the situation and gain a better understanding. During this period, the negative consequences of the complex problem are tolerated in order to ensure the maintenance of the scientific activities that it directly targets, or not, the achievement of a solution. The thesis defended in this study is that the management of the complex problems that it proposes is concluded by the rational elaboration, framed by pragmatic decisions and a favorable conjuncture, of an ad hoc hypothesis offering a solution to the problem. If the scientific community recognizes the epistemological value of this hypothesis, it will be integrated into the theoretical and conceptual field which will have the effect of enriching scientific knowledge and giving back to science its "normal" status.

Cognitive rationality and indeterminism in the contemporary detective novel, with special reference to the work of Umberto Eco, Carlo Emilio Gadda and Stanislaw Lem

Van der Linde, G. P. L. (Gerhardus Philippus Leonardus) 06 1900 (has links)
The study examines cognitive rationality as to()l for problemsolving within the context of a movement from determinism and monolithic universal Reason towards indeterminism and plurality. It is contended that theories of literature do not provide an adequate conceptual framework, and therefore, extensive use is made of pluralist fallibilism (Popper, Helmut Spinner) and chaos theory. The philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche is viewed as a decisive influence in the shift towards plurality and scepticism. In chapter 2, Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, a novel by Agatha Christie and Gaston Leroux's Le mystere de Ia chambre jaune are discussed as examples of optimistic rationalism. Chapter 3 indicates that Eco's II nome della rosa emphasizes the conjectural nature of truth and objective knowledge, underpinned by a 'soft' rationalism which amounts to monopolistic pluralism. Chapter 4 analyses the defeat of cognitive rationality by the complex interaction of a multiplicity of independent causal series. The detectives' relationship with the feminine exemplifies the interpenetration of rationality and the instinctual, while the mystery of the feminine is a metaphor for impenetrable complexity. Chapter 5 shows that hypotheses concerning random complex systems remain inconclusive. However, as the trajectory of a complex system can be regulated, so reason can be viewed as the underlying regulative pattern (strange attractorl for an infinite proliferation of hypotheses. Thus, despite .shifting conceptions of rationality and order, all the detectives in the study accept objective truth as regulative principle and are involved in a search for objective knowledge / Afrikaans & Theory of Literature / D.Litt. et Phil.
