En analys av De Geer-moräners bildningsmiljö med hjälp av LiDAR-bilder / An analysis of the De Geer-moraines formation environment based on LiDAR mapping

Pusterli, Christopher January 2017 (has links)
Gerard De Geer was the first one to identify De Geer-moraines, and has since then been mapped by many other studies around the world.  The focus of this study was to examine the environment the ridges form in, regarding the water depth during creation, the importance of topography and the melting rate of the ice. Using airborne Light Detection and Ranging  (LiDAR) data, De Geer- moraines were mapped around eastern Norrbotten county, including Piteå, Boden and Luleå. A total of 14 651 De Geer-moraines were identified over the selected area. Six parameters were analysed during this study; length, orientation, steepness, distance between ridges, current ground level and depth below highest shoreline. In some areas, ridges showed a high, local steepness, while other study sites showed ridges with a varied interconnected form, from straight, to convex and concave. Prominent De Geer-moraines had been identified, where the mean distance between the ridges was calculated to 345 m. Furthermore, other glacial formations (drumlins, flutings, rogen moraines and eskers) showed a relationship to De Geer-moraines, either with a similar angle or a perpendicular relation. A great water depth showed a significant role in the creation of the ridges, with 75% of the identified De Geer-moraines formed in a water depth greater than 150 m. De Geer- moraines found on topographic lows tend to have an interconnected concave form, while over or close to elevated areas; they’re slightly convex. The mean distance between prominent ridges showed a connection to the average retreat rate of the last ice, which suggests that prominent ridges had been formed annually.

Larrivée, Katryne 12 1900 (has links)
In Nunavik, a sustained increase of surface temperatures linked to climate change, affects the bearing capacity of the permafrost by modifying its thermal regime. Depending on the nature of the soil as well as its cryostructures, creep and differential thaw-settlement processes can be significant. The rapid demographic growth in Nunavik requires the construction of several new housing units. In order to estimate the behaviour of permafrost to thaw, this study has contributed to a sustainable land-use planning by the geomorphological interpretation of the landscape and the study of geotechnical properties of the different cryofacies that compose the geomorphological units of Puvirnituq. Three main geomorphological units were distinguished within the territory. The bedrock is thaw-stable as well as the veneer of surficial deposits since they are contained within the active layer (P1 unit). The reworked till is dominated by ice-poor sand, providing a certain stability, but the De Geer moraines could incorporate ice-rich till and ice-rich thaw sensitive marine deposits (P2 unit). The depressions, filled with marine and littoral deposits, probably contain stable reworked till at the bottom but the presence of an ice-rich transition zone between ~0,9 and 1,7 m depth, makes this geomorphological unit improper for construction (P3 unit). The principal contribution to landuse planning of this study is the production of two maps. The first presents the distribution of the geomorphological units over the entire territory, allowing for a quick identification of potential areas to support the development of Puvirnituq; the second map shows the location of De Geer moraines beyond the study area to extrapolate the result of this study to the landscape scale.

Jag tänker på mig själv som en nakenakt : En studie av Marianne Lindberg De Geers skulptur Jag tänker på mig själv i relation till nakenakten som motivkategori / I am Thinking About Myself as a female nude : A study of Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s sculpture I am Thinking About Myself in relation to the female nude

Carnvik, Sofia January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyze the Swedish artist Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s public sculpture Jag tänker på mig själv in relation to the female nude as a traditional motif within the western art and aesthetic. The artwork in question depicts two naked upright standing women, one of whom is represented as emaciated and skinny and the other one as voluminous and fat. By using previous research on the subject of aberrant bodily representations as its main theoretical framework and with a methodological approach based on visual semiotics, this study has found that Jag tänker på mig själv is to be seen as a deviant representation of the female body in several ways. The way in which the female body is represented in Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s sculpture has shown to deviate not only from the traditional female nude but also from the visual norms that usually characterizes aberrant representations of the female-coded body.

Frihetskämpar och blodbesudlade ikoner : En kritisk diskursanalys av Linnémonumentet och Louis De Geer-statyn under 2020 års #BlackLivesMatter-rörelse i Sverige / Freedom Fighters and Bloodstained Icons : A critical discourse analysis of the Linnaeus Monument and the Louis De Geer statue during the #BlackLivesMatter movement in Sweden 2020

Hjelm, Zara Luna January 2021 (has links)
This thesis examines the discourse regarding the Linnaeus Monument in Humlegården, Stockholm, and the Louis De Geer statue at The Old Square, Norrköping. It further analyzes the significance that sculptures gained during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in 2020, in relation to anti-racism and historical phenomena of 'damnatio memoriae'. With a theoretical framework of postcolonialism and critical race theory, this thesis aims to highlight and analyze the reasonings that were central during the debate, focusing on anti-racist and people of color's voices. Thus, critical discourse analysis and semiotics are used as methods to create an understanding of authority and to shed light on Sweden's own view of its colonial history and elevate the discussion concerning race, class, gender, and power, etcetera, in relation to public art. The thesis, hence, argues how public places in society can be decolonized with the intention of creating a home for all of us.
