Farina, Bárbara Cristina January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation’s objective is the analysis of processes of stigmatization that limit spaces of belonging and the possibility of growing up of the subject with disabilities that are considered deviant, offering visibility to the respective naturalization dynamics, using cinema as a support tool. In this context, the spaces of belonging, as possibility of mutual identification and approximation between subject and place, and the growing up process, understood as the form of continuous stigmatization practices. These practices tend to offer rigid demands and expectation on the subjects, making references to the standards of normality that are socially created and shared. The processes of stigmatization will be understood in their complexity, as relationship between attributes existent in language, that is, as consensual coordination of conduct. The language will, in this way, be understood under a systemic perspective according to authors such as Humberto Maturana and Gregory Bateson. The stigmatizing processes, through the recurrence of their enunciations, make themselves natural in day-to-day discourses, becoming visible, in this study, through movie narratives, chosen both by their complementary character, and because they are representative of the great range of cinematographic productions with disability as a theme: “I am Sam” (2001) and “Precious” (2009) are objects of analysis on this work. The movies were analyzed in their totality through the attribution of meanings to the narrative related to the cinematographic language, through three dimensions - the specular, the symbolic and the irruptive - rescuing, respectively, what can be described, the attached meanings and the possible relations with the stigmatisation process. The works represent the consequences of the normalization logic, which reflects in prejudiced practices that limit the possibilities of the different subjects, seeking to frame them in spaces of deviation and normality. Departing from the conceptual deepening and the approximations of the analyses of the movies, it was possible to understand that the subject creates himself in an autopoietic logic, in which the socially deposited demand over different subjects results in diverse values of being, living and experiencing, not only for the stigmatised subject but also for the one stigmatising. To question these well-established logic means to start the breaking movement that may help the processes of knowledge appropriation, and it may lead to the valuing of diverse ways of being and the balance between different values of humanity that each subject receives, individually or collectively.

Wingren Ahlström, Veronica January 2019 (has links)
Background: As a child, growing up in a dysfunctional family in close relation to parent / parents with mental illness affects the child both during childhood but also later in life. The attachment and the systems that exist around the child will have a decisive influence on the child's ability to socialize, mentalize and to build resilience. Through the stories of the dandelion children regarding their upbringing which gives a greater understanding of how the growing conditions can affect future choices of profession and professional profession is created.Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate how the growing conditions can affect the future choice of profession for children who have grown up in a dysfunctional family in close relation to parent/parents with mental illness.Method: The study has a qualitative focus with semistructured interviews, which six interviews have been conducted. The study is based on attachment theory and system theory, which are also linked to the mentalization theory and resilience.Result: The results show that growth conditions have affected the informants' choice of profession. Based on the interviews, six themes have been found, the desire to help others, fear, lack of trust, exchange roles, confirmation and mentalization. The different roles of childhood, such as the adult who has taken care of the family, the “therapist” who has listened, together with their own vulnerability, fear and lack of confidence, have built up a knowledge and identity. This in turn, has built up a basic security of different roles that may exist in social work. Working as a therapist, for example, is something they are good at, a role they feel safe with, a role they identify with. Conclusion: The dandelion children's education has been going on throughout their whole lives and with an overall perspective of experiences from the upbringing, their extended ability to mentalize, together with an academic foundation, today's social psychiatry could lift a new special competence. Today's dandelion children are tomorrow's profession.

January 2007 (has links)
Os resultados apontaram para...(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The current study aimed at understanding how HIV-positive teenagers who have lived with the diagnostic of HIV/Aids since childhood experience their growing up. Aids established itself worldwide as a disease marked by prejudice and discrimination, due to the misconceptions about its origins and transmission forms which professed the existence of risk groups and behaviors. The advent of the drug cocktail allowed for an increase in life time and quality of HIV-positive individuals, including children infected through vertical transmission. These children grew up and today are in adolescence and aspects such as the building of an adult identity, sexuality, and socialization become imperious and few studies sought to investigate the effects of Aids in this process. Therefore, three teenagers diagnosed with HIV/Aids, aged 16, 14, and 12, took part in this research. This investigation considered two sources of data: The clinical experience with these teenagers acquired during the sessions performed at the Pediatrics Aids Clinic at the University Hospital of Londrina, where the researcher has been working for seven years; and interviews performed with the teenagers and their main caretakers with the aim of allowing for the expression of their experiences about Aids and entering adolescence. The analysis of data was performed under the light of psychoanalysis. The results pointed... (Complete abstract, click electronic access below) / Mestre

Maskrosbarn: Vuxna maskrosbarns identitet och välbefinnande / Dandelion children: The identity and well-being of adult dandelion children

Baran, Michael, Danielsson Jannesson, Petra January 2022 (has links)
Despite the fact that 500 000 children grow up with at least one parent who suffers from some form of mental illness, abuse or who exposes them to violence, there is still a lack of knowledge about how this affects the individual in adulthood. The purpose of this study is therefore to create an understanding of how the conditions of growth have contributed to creating the identity of dandelion children and how it has affected the individual's well-being with emphasis on the level of subjective well-being, in adulthood. Through a qualitative interview study, the individuals were given space to tell their own story about what it was like to grow up in a dysfunctional family and its impact on adult life. Through a social psychological approach, this phenomenon is studied on the basis of theories of well-being, Sense of coherence (SOC), resilience, stigma and identity. The study involved 10 women who identify themselves as dandelion children. The results suggest that unfavorable conditions during adolescence affect both identity creation and well-being. This is expressed by the fact that these individuals claim to possess distinct characteristics that are perceived to be a direct effect of traumatic experiences during childhood. A majority of these individuals also have a distinct need for predictability in daily life to achieve well-being.

Dospívání a dospělost v Čechách (Vynořující se dospělost očima mladých lidí a jejich matek) / Growing up and adulthood in the Czech Republic (Emerging adulthood through the eyes of emerging adults and their mothers)

Marčíková, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
The presented dissertation focuses on the process of transition into adulthood through the eyes of young people and the eyes of their mothers. The research study is based on the theory of J.J. Arnett, who identified a new development period "emerging adulthood" [Arnett, 1998]. We use three different perspectives to look at the process of transition into the adulthood: Developmental psychological, sociological and cultural-anthropological. Description of each period associated with the transition to adulthood is extended by the context of a family in which a young person is raised, and by a culture in which the person grows. By introducting these three perspectives in the first part we are creating a theoretical framework for the empirical part of our work. In the empirical part the qualitative study is presented. As the research method semistructured in-depth interview with young Czechs and their mothers was used. Our goal was to understand the perception of the notion of adulthood by young people aged 18 to 30 years and the way they describe their own process of transition into the adulthood. We wanted to determine whether young Czechs show signs of "emerging adulthood." We were also interested in how the relationship between a mother and her offspring, the upbringing, and the cultural context influence...

"The Market That Just Grew Up": How Eaton's Fashioned the Teenaged Consumer in Mid-twentieth-century Canada

Rollwagen, Katharine E 25 September 2012 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the emergence of the teenaged consumer as a market segment in Canada during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. It challenges the notion that teenagers were of little interest to retailers until economics and demographics shaped the more numerous and prosperous post-war teenagers of the Baby Boom generation. Using evidence from corporate records and analysis of mail order catalogues, the study examines how department store retailer, the T. Eaton Company, Limited, began to cultivate a distinct and lucrative teenaged consumer in the 1930s, and thereby began shaping the teenaged consumer. The thesis contextualizes the case study of Eaton’s by exploring the varied expectations that adults had of young people at the time, using census records and magazines (Chatelaine, Canadian Home Journal and Mayfair) to explore concerns about young people’s transition to adulthood. It then focuses on how Eaton’s made a concerted and sustained effort to attract teenager customers to its catalogue and stores. Analysis of its semi-annual catalogue highlights the emergence of specialized clothing size ranges and styles, revealing that Eaton’s increasingly viewed the teenaged years as an important in-between life stage. Eaton’s also instituted teenage advisory councils to both glean market trends and provide a venue for what it considered education for novice consumers. Eaton’s presented consumption as a way to prepare young people for adult roles, legitimizing teenaged participation in the consumer marketplace and contributing to wider debates about when and how teenaged Canadians should reach maturity.
