Studien som presenteras i denna rapport berör hur det icke mänskliga inom science fiction uppfattas av dataspelutvecklingsstudenter. Romantisering av teknologi har alltid varit väl grundat i västvärlden och har påverkat hur science fiction-genren utvecklats, speciellt under genrens guldålder. Science fiction-genren är en genre med ofantligt mycket potential för att undersöka olika koncept, både sociala och vetenskapliga, men har väldigt starka stereotyper runt vissa karaktärstyper inom populärkultur. Den problemformulering som är basen för denna studie är om teknologisk icke-mänskliga karaktärer ses som mera positiva än organiska icke-mänskliga karaktärer. Flera olika karaktärer designades för studien som representationer av olika karaktärstyper inom science fiction-genren. Studiens resultat visar på motsatsen från problemformuleringen då det var de organiska karaktärerna som sågs som mera positiva än de teknologiska karaktärerna.

I denna uppsats undersöker jag hur ett litterärt "jag" framställs i Arne Sands roman Väderkvarnarna (1962). Med utgångspunkt i Sands texter om ett gestaltskapande problem i den för Sand samtida "gestaltskapande" romanen tolkar jag Sands projekt i Väderkvarnarna som ett projekt där dess "gestaltskapande" tematiseras och problematiseras. Det är utifrån det gestaltskapande problemet som "jaget" i texten blir relevant. Om 60-talets roman har problem med att gestalta ett "jag" utifrån dess förändrade samhälle i efterkrigstidens följd, hur sker då jag-framställningen i en roman vars författare proklamerar detta problem? Samtidigt finns i Väderkvarnarna intertextuella kopplingar till vad jag i uppsatsen valt att kalla Kierkegaards ironiska jag-position. Med den Kierkegaardska ironin verkar ett fragmentariskt "jag" utan kontinuitet kunna skönjas, där "jaget" blir negativt fritt från verkligheten. Med den kierkegaardska ironin som teoretisk utgångspunkt och intertextuell vägvisare närmar jag mig i uppsatsen frågan om hur Väderkvarnarna framställer ett litterärt "jag", som genom problematiserandet av "gestalter" eventuellt  bereder väg för ett kommande litterärt "jag" i den svenska litteraturhistorien.

Studien analyserar hur manliga och kvinnliga huvud- och bipersoner framställs i tre böcker om superhjältar. Böckerna som analyserats är Handbok för superhjältar, Megakillen - den stora hemligheten och Kapten Kalsong. Syftet är att undersöka om förändringar skett över tid och identifiera mönster i beskrivningen av manliga och kvinnliga huvud- och bipersoner, samt hur deras personligheter och roller beskrivs i respektive bok. En kvalitativ metod i form av en innehållsanalys används och med hjälp av Nikolajevas schema för stereotypa kvinnliga respektive manliga karaktärsdrag analyseras berättelserna. Resultatet visar att vissa förändringar skett, den största förändringen är att i den senaste boken är huvudpersonen en kvinna. I varje bok finns någon eller några av det manliga könet som använder eller uttrycker sig våldsamt vilket är ett mönster som följt med i alla böcker, något Nikolajeva (2017:193) anser vara en manlig egenskap. The purpose of this thesis is to examine popular male characters trending on the social media app TikTok under the hashtags “booktok” and “bookboyfriends”, with a focus on understanding the construction of their masculinity and determining the qualities that make them highly appealing to a female audience. This will be done by researching the six most popular male characters on #bookboyfriend. Then by close reading the novels which the characters derive from.  This thesis theoretical framework is a mix between romance research, masculinity studies and a female gaze perspective. The thesis draws upon a variety of studies, including but not limited to the works of Raewyn Connell, Laura Mulvey, Janice Radway and Jonathan Allen. The novels researched in this thesis are all heterosexual, written by women and mostly by American authors. These are: Elle Kennedy’s The Deal (2021), Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us (2016), Krista &amp; Becca Ritchie’s Addicted to You (2020), Ali Hazelwood’s Love Hypothesis (2021), and Ana Huang’s Twisted Love (2021) and Twisted Lies (2022).  To analyze the male characters, I divided the analysis into two main parts: physical depiction and sexual content. The book boyfriends are portrayed in a way that is traditional to the romance genre, they are tall, handsome, and rich. However, now they are more extreme in everything, instead of just being tall they are massive. Furthermore, they are also more violent than their predecessors especially in the sexual content of the novels. This is mixed with the inclusion of sexual consent which now exists in all the novels. Lastly, the book boyfriends are all male heroes typical to the romance genre but work as a scale where some behave more as alpha males and others as soft boys.

Courtship and marital arrangements went through many drastic changes during the late 18th and early 19th century. Female writers such as Mary Wollstonecraft started to question and criticize women’s role in marriage and what it meant for their status in society. These changes pushed forward the companionate marriage as the new ideal which Jane Austen took inspiration from when writing Pride and Prejudice (1813). There is, however, something that makes her stand out among other novelists writing on this subject; that she does not romanticize marriage. This essay investigates the four couples Austen presents in her novel and analyses their progression toward marriage in comparison to the social expectations prevalent in her time. It identifies four types of marriages that are central to the plot: the marriage as a social and economic contract, the scandalous marriage, the idealized marriage and lastly the marriage of the equals which is the illustration of the companionate union. This study argues that Austen presents the companionate marriage as the kind of union that leads to true happiness for women. By examining novels that focus on this subject through the lens of their historical context, we can strive to gain a more profound comprehension of the significance of marriage and family life for women during that period. This essay examines the complex identity struggles of Kwame Asante and Nana AdakuII in Mabel Dove-Danquah’s “Anticipation” and “The Torn Veil.” Dove-Danquah, a pioneer in African literature and politics, portrays the tension between traditional Ghanaian values and colonial influences. Through the lens of Mimicry, Hybridity, and Orientalism, the essay explores the characters’ negotiations between modernity andtradition. Kwame’s pursuit of education and status, juxtaposed with Nana’scommitment to cultural heritage, illustrates the post-colonial identity crisis. The analysis extends to societal impacts, showing how colonial legacies challenge traditional values. By delving into these stories, the essay highlights the cultural negotiation, resistance, and adaptation in postcolonial Ghana, offering insights into identity formation aftercolonialism.
