Bullying : características desencadeadoras na opinião de universitários /

Galli, Mariana Vicente. January 2017 (has links)
Desta forma, o comportamento humano seria o resultado do predisposto biologicamente e a influência do ambiente. In this way, human behavior would be the result of biological predisposition and the influence of the environment. Thus, some behaviors have been beeen maintained, such as the tendency to live in groups that can both benefit the individual and distort them and cause them to abandon their conceptions and ideals. Prejudice, stigma and stereotype are examples of situations in which the subject faces difficulty in group interaction. It must also be considered that when this individual really wants be part of the group, he is able to manipulate his behavior in order to coverage with the group, thus modifyidng his public image. Bullying can also be pointed out with a situation in which the difficulty of group adjustment occurs, characterize by aggressions, dispespectful actions and harassment that occur in a recurrent and intentional way without a specific motivation of the agressor. Thus, this research was justified by the need to understand why some individuals are more vulnerable or susceptible to be victims of bullying and thys to envolve the knowledge about the phenomenon, to obtain an additional resource in the scientific field, as well as possibility of intervention and prevention in the social sphere. In this way, the objective was to investigate quantatively and quantitatively the characteristics of victims of bullying, with a distinction beteween men and women in different phases of the life cycle, that trigger such practices in the opinion of university students / Mestre

Online victimisation in adolescence : the role of parenting and early childhood experiences

Griffiths, Cara Luise January 2017 (has links)
Background: Online victimisation during adolescence is associated with adverse outcomes across multiple domains. However, previous research has demonstrated that some adolescents are at greater risk of experiencing online victimisation than others. Literature on traditional peer victimisation has highlighted the importance of children’s early experiences and the family context but it is unclear how these factors relate to online victimisation. The first study reviews the evidence for associations between the phenomenon of cyber-victimisation (CV) and parenting behaviours, whereas the second study investigates online victimisation which includes experiences of online harassment and unwanted contact of a sexual or offensive nature. Aim: A systematic review was conducted to determine whether positive parenting behaviours protect against CV during adolescence. An empirical study investigated whether experiences of childhood maltreatment were associated with online victimisation and whether this relationship was mediated by attachment insecurity and risky electronic communication in an adolescent sample. Method: A systematic review of the literature identified seventeen studies which met inclusion criteria. Parenting behaviours were categorised into offline and online parenting behaviours and the findings from each study were reported. Studies were also assessed against 15 quality criteria. In the second study, 123 students aged 12- 16 were recruited. Five self-report questionnaires were administered measuring experiences of childhood maltreatment, attachment, risky electronic communication, electronic media use and online victimisation. Results: Offline parenting behaviours, particularly general monitoring, may reduce the likelihood of adolescents experiencing CV. There was greater variation in the findings relating to online parental mediation strategies, but in general these strategies did not consistently predict a significant increase nor a reduction in CV. The empirical study found that whilst attachment anxiety partially mediated the relationship between childhood maltreatment and online victimisation, attachment avoidance and risky electronic communication did not. However, childhood maltreatment and risky electronic communication were significant predictors of online victimisation. Conclusion: Parenting behaviours and early childhood experiences may play an important role in the victimisation of adolescents online. Interventions which promote positive parenting and attachment security may help to protect young people against online victimisation. However, more empirically rigorous and longitudinal studies are needed to enhance our understanding of the risk factors and the protective factors involved.

O fenômeno bullying em escolares do ensino fundamental /

Silva, Gilene Fernanda. January 2015 (has links)
Fake Geek Girl: The Gender Conflict in Nerd Culture

Robinson, Sonnet 29 September 2014 (has links)
This thesis explores a gendered conflict in nerd culture. I sent an online survey to self-identified women nerds with a series of questions asking their opinion of the representation of women in nerd media and about their experiences within the nerd community. Seventy-five percent of respondents reported that a sexy or sexualized appearance was the most prominent aspect of women's representation in nerd media. Eighty-two percent of participants had experienced a gender-based insult when participating in nerd media. Findings suggest that harassment and representation in media is worse for women comic book and video game media and communities than in other sub-genres within the culture. More research is needed on racial representation and participation and on nerd men's experiences with gate-keeping.

Sjöbom, Amanda, Dahlén, Sandra January 2018 (has links)
In the fall of 2017 women all over the world were united in a joint call on social media in the fight against sexual harassment. #metoo broke the silence about how women are being sexually harassed and undermined at home and in the workplace. The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the stories published by women in the so-called #metoo-petitions on sexual harassment and undermining in the workplace. The study is limited to only examining the service- and the technology industry. Previous research shows the unequal working conditions and the vulnerability that women face daily in the service industry. In the technology industry, the hierarchies and stereotypes used to undermine women are brought to light. Based on a qualitative comparative text analysis, we have analyzed and compared these stories based on gender power theories and gender perspectives. The results show how women in the service industry are primarily exposed to sexual harassment while women in the technology industry are also subject to undermining in shape of vertical gender segregation and methods of exclusion. Common to both service- and the technology industry, based on our material, is that the women feel the lack of support from management when they report incidents of offensive treatments. /
2018-09-02.

Fistarol, Alexandre de Oliveira January 2014 (has links)
The objective of the work here presented is to identify the most frequent ways in which moral harassment occurs in a work place, verifying and comparing the different understandings, regarding this practice, of the judiciary (both in the first and in the second degree of jurisdiction), the labor union and the employers associations, especially regarding how different men and women are treated in the working place. It is a exploratory qualitative research, more precisely, the analysis of 85 lawsuits, examining their decisions both at first (1st) as well as at the second (2nd) degree, totalizing 170 judicial decisions handed out from 2005 to 2012. Data was also collected by performing eight semi-structured interviews, whose respondents were members of the three classes whose understanding about moral harassment I was comparing, i.e., members of the judiciary, union leaders, and employers association. Posterior data analysis was made based on the theoretical framework given by leading dominant literature on the subject. The concepts of Freitas, Hirigoyen, Barreto e Soboll are used to characterize moral harassment. The analysis shows divergences on the understating and how the subject is dealt not only between the classes analyzed, but also among members of the same class. The results also show that occurred a spiral evolution of the moral harassment practices, i.e., the same harassments still happens, only the way they are inflicted changed/evolved. From our research, it became evident the difficulty not only in identifying and demonstrating moral harassment, but also in stipulating the amount of the compensatory damages to be paid, so that this kind of practice in inhibited.

Law, sexual harassment, and restaurants: exploring the experiences of women working in the British Columbia restaurant sector

Matulewicz, Kaitlyn 09 May 2017 (has links)
Sexual harassment in the workplace is both illegal discrimination under human rights law and a part of the everyday experiences of women working in the full-service restaurant industry in British Columbia (BC). This dissertation is a feminist, institutional ethnographic inquiry into how women’s unwanted or uncomfortable sexual experiences with managers, co-workers, and customers within the context of full-service restaurant work in BC are still happening more than three decades after sexual harassment was first named sex discrimination in Canada. I argue that restaurant work is organized in such a way that uncomfortable or unwanted sexual experiences at work are made normal. My dissertation tells the story of how law is implicated in the construction of such restaurant workplaces within which sexual harassment and unwanted sexual experiences are normalized. The complicated interaction between the social context of restaurant work, workplace practices in restaurants, and inadequate employment standards legislation constructs precarious work environments wherein workers have little economic or job security and rely on customers for tips. Tipping, a practice legally legitimized and reinforced with lower minimum wages for alcohol servers, means workers endure sexualized and discriminatory behaviour at work in exchange for tips. Moreover, gendered social relations, reflected in managerial hiring practices and restaurant dress codes, lead women workers to associate femininity and a sexualized presentation of their self with their employment. Sexual harassment law is implicated in the problem as well. Sexual harassment law in BC (re)produces the gendered social relations of work through an individualized human rights framework and a jurisprudential notion of “unwelcomness” that both place the burden for addressing discrimination on the shoulders of workers. / Graduate / 2019-05-06

Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists' Perceptions of Bullying and its Impact on Learning

Winston, Mariana Ehlrich, Winston, Mariana Ehlrich January 2017 (has links)
Background: Bullying is a form of violence and is described as unwelcome aggressive behavior(s) by unrelated individuals. The prevalence of bullying in the nursing profession has been reported to be as high as 31% in the United States, and has been studied extensively in undergraduate nursing, midwifery, medical school residencies, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA) professional roles. There is a significant gap in the literature and paucity of evidence about the extent of Student Registered Nurse Anesthesia (SRNA) bullying underscored that this topic required further investigation. Purpose: To investigate whether bullying behaviors occur among anesthesia preceptors, and if so, how SRNAs perceive bullying has affected their educational experience. Methods: The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) disseminated an online survey based on an existing tool to SRNAs for this study. The study used a quantitative descriptive methodology consisting of a survey of nine demographic questions, eight 5-point Likert scale questions, and two multiple-choice questions. Setting and sample: A nationwide online survey sent to 1500 SRNAs yielded (N=133) participants, who were predominantly female (67.67%), in front-loaded programs (52.63%) with an average age of 24-29 years old. Results: Results revealed SRNAs entering clinical rotations in 2015 and 2016 were bullied more than those entering in 2017. The majority of the respondents (89.26%) reported that they couldn't think clearly when they were bullied. More than half of SRNAs agreed (74.62%) that bullying impedes learning. Overall, CRNA preceptors (85.48%) were reported as the most frequent bullies, with MD/DO anesthesiologists reported as the second most frequent (68.55%) followed by non-CRNA nursing staff (41.94%).
