A project health check for coal mining caompanies : case of Douglas Middelburg optimisation project

De Wet, G.F. 30 November 2007 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to develop a project health check model to evaluate the status of projects within the coal mining industry. The model will be based on the Buttrick (2000) project health check model as described in his book “The Interactive Project Workout”. The model assesses the current “health” or status of a project. It looks at the full project environment and uses a set of question results in an assessment of the overall risk associated with the project. The model evaluates seven key project success factors which include: 1. Project Plan 5. Expertise 2. Resources 6. Clear Specification 3. Ownership 7. Top Level Support 4. Justifiable Case The model fulfils two roles: • As a checklist, and • As a tool to indicate where a project manager’s efforts should be directed. This study will give an overview of the coal mining industry and the way projects are being evaluated and prioritised. The Buttrick (2000) project health check model will be assessed and adapted to evaluate projects within the coal mining industry. The “new / adapted” model will be applied to the Douglas / Middelburg Optimisation (DMO) to evaluate the health status of the project which is currently at the end of definition (feasibility) stage within BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa. The results obtained from the new health check model showed that the DMO project was in a healthy state with a project health check score of 47.33. It could 4 thus be concluded that the DMO project is ready to move in to the execution phase of the BHP Billiton capital investment process. The results obtained from the project team member participants were split into management perception and team members’ perception. The overall health of the DMO project between the two parties gave similar results with the team members score of 43.76 being slightly lower than the management health score of 45.42. The only major difference was observed on the “Communication” project evaluation criteria where the management perspective on the communication effectiveness was higher than that of the project team members.

Hälsokontroller och beteendeförändring hos byggarbetare : en intervjustudie / Health surveillance and behavior change among construction workers : an interview study

Boutzas, Anna January 2016 (has links)
The incidence of illness among construction workers is higher than average in other industries, because of accidents and other conditions at work. One of the most important resources to prevent injury and maintain health in the workplace, is the occupational health care. The aim of this qualitative study was to describe the construction workers experiences of their occupational health and work environment and about whether occupational health check-ups have had any significance for their behavior change. Five male construction workers who had underwent a health check and after that performed a behavior change, was recruited via an occupational care center. Data was collected by face to face and telefon interviews, that were subsequently transcribed and analysed by thematic analyse. The tematic analyse resulted in four main themes: "enabling factors for good health of the construction workers professional”, ”restricted factors to the good health of the construction worker's occupation", "benefits of occupational health promotion" and "concrete results of occupational health check-ups".   The construction workers experienced their occupational health and work environment as both positive and negative. The positive about work was the social contact with colleagues and employers, the negative was that the work environment contributed to poor health due musculoskeletal of injury and stress. Health check-ups contributed to behavior change and pontential prevention of diseases among construction workers.   The health check-ups was considered as being meaningful and enabled a change in behavior after understanding that they must change their lifestyle to avoid disease. Further research is needed on how to improve construction workers occupational health through occupational health services.

A study on the relationship among service quality ,the customer relationship management ,customer satisfaction and customer loyalty

Chuang, Kuo-yuan 20 June 2012 (has links)
The environment of the health care industry resulting in a considerable change in recent years by the NHI system uncertainty, rising health care costs, intra-industry competition, the rise of consumer awareness, as well as the patient's requirements to improve the quality of medical care and other factors impact. Therefore, health care providers have thinking business strategy in the future of medical institutions, and actively pursue a diversification of health services, extend the medical professional services related to health checks which is no constraints by NHI system, and at their own expense systemic health checks. Armed forces hospital is not only provide health check service to military personnel but also to provide the public at their own expense health check service. Many domestic and foreign literature shows that use of customer relationship management effectively can improve service quality. Therefore, how to use customer relationship management to enhance service quality of health check, to explore new customers (public) and retaining customers (military personnel), strengthen the competitiveness is an important issue facing the Armed forces hospitals. In this research, the content of health check service quality are four dimensions to form by the environmental facilities, the health check process, personnel services and health management;the overall customer satisfaction for a single item; the customer loyalty is primarily to repurchase intentions and recommended four questions of. The structure of this research was constructed by "health check service quality", "customer satisfaction", " customer loyalty" the three dimensions together with background information on the dimensions of the formation; and distinguish between "health check service in current" and " health check services in the use of customer relationship management to adjust or increase the service measures " in two part. Explore the relationship and differences between the various dimensions. This research took the example of an armed forces regional hospital. We use the convenient sample method to obtain questionnaires. The result of this research discovers that the demographic factors have no statistical difference with the health check service quality and the overall customer satisfaction; demographic factors of marital status and work patterns (military personnel) for partial questions of the customer loyalty have significant difference. There is moderate to high positive correlation between health check service quality and overall customer satisfaction. With the application of stepwise multiple regression analysis, health management in the health check service quality can efficiently predict overall satisfaction of the health check as a whole explanatory power and statistical-significance. Health check of the overall customer satisfaction and customer loyalty is positively related. "The overall satisfaction of health check services in the use of customer relationship management to adjust or increase the service measures" is higher than "the overall satisfaction of health check service in current" and has the remarkable difference. "The customer loyalty of health check services in the use of customer relationship management to adjust or increase the service measures" is higher than "the customer loyalty of health check service in current" and has the remarkable difference.

The Team Mirror : A Constructivist Study of an Agile Method for Team Development / Teamspegeln : En konstruktivistisk studie av en agil metod för teamutveckling

von Heijne, Julia, Wängborg, Emelie January 2018 (has links)
In rapidly changing environments organization and management theories have to consider more flexible approaches to match the demands (1) (2). Agile methods attempt to enable flexible efficient ways of working in team structures (1). In this thesis we empirically study a model from a constructivist approach in an attempt to contribute to knowledge on the eternal problem of people working efficiently in the structure of teams. Social processes are argued to have a major impact on the general application of agile methods (3). However, the practitioners of agile methods tend to focus more on the physical and technical infrastructure as enablers of successful teamwork rather than the social processes of team development (4). Hence, without knowing how the social processes of a team affects the usage of agile methods for team development, an organization is at risk of becoming less efficient over time without realizing why (5) (6).Therefore it is essential to study how an agile method for team development affects and influences the social processes within a team in order to understand how it can be used for efficient teamwork. The purpose of this thesis was to study how an agile method for team development can aid a software development team to improve their way of working. We empirically tested a team-level workshop-based agile method for team development, SHC, in a case study at the Swedish Police Authority IT Department. This included 14 focus group sessions with seven development teams. We posed the following main research question to fulfill the purpose of the study: how can the use of an agile method for team development help software development teams improve theirway of working? We conclude that there are several ways in which an agile method for team development can help teams improve their way of working, and that these depend on the unique social processes within each team. The purpose of the study was fulfilled by the findings of how an agile method can serve teams in different stages of team development by fulfilling different purposes, how it can assist a team in taking action, as well as the potential it has to enable Shared Leadership.

Laloix, Thomas 11 December 2018 (has links)
This PhD work has been initiated by Renault, in collaboration with Nancy Research Centre in Automatic Control (CRAN), with the aim to propose the foundation of a generic PHM-based methodology leading to machine health check regarding machine-product joint consideration and facing industrial requirements. The proposed PHM-based methodology is structured in five steps. The two first steps are developed in this PhD work and constitute the major contributions. The first originality represents the formalization of machine-product relationship knowledge based on the extension of well-known functioning/dysfunctioning analysis methods. The formalization is materialized by means of meta-modelling based on UML (Unified Modelling Language). This contribution leads to the identification of relevant parameters to be monitored, from component up to machine level. These parameters serve as a basis of the machine health check elaboration. The second major originality of the thesis aims at the definition of health check elaboration principles from the previously identified monitoring parameters and formalized system knowledge. Elaboration of such health indicators is based on Choquet integral as aggregation method, raising the issue of capacity identification. In this way, it is proposed a global optimization model of capacity identification according to system multi-level, by the use of Genetic Algorithms. Both contributions are developed with the objective to be generic (not only oriented on a specific class of equipment), according to industrial needs. The feasibility and the interests of such approach are shown on the case of machine tool located in RENAULT Cléon Factory
