The needs and expectations of parents for guidance on healthy food, nutrition and lifestyle behaviourVan der Merwe, Aliece Margot January 2019 (has links)
This study forms part of a broader school-based intervention project focused on the promotion of
healthy nutrition-related practices, physical health and the socio-emotional functioning of primary
school children in resource-constrained communities in South Africa. The initial intervention was
offered to Grade 1 to 3 learners at two schools situated in Gauteng. The purpose of the current study
is to explore the needs and expectations of the parents whose children have been involved in the
broader research project, with regard to the guidance they require on healthy food, nutrition and
lifestyle behaviour. As a next phase of the broader project, the findings of my study will inform the
development of a parent-guidance intervention for the parents of the learners in the participating
schools.
I integrated the Parental Involvement Process model and Ecological Systems theory in compiling a
conceptual framework that guided me in undertaking my research. I utilised interpretivism as
epistemology and followed a qualitative approach. I implemented a case study design utilising
Participatory Reflection and Action (PRA) principles in generating data with 22 parent participants
who were purposively selected. For data generation and documentation, I used PRA-based workshops,
observation-as-context-of-interaction, field notes, reflective journaling and audio-visual techniques.
Following inductive thematic analysis, four themes and related sub-themes emerged in relation to
potential topics for food and nutrition-related guidance; guidance on physical activity and fitness;
guidance required for supporting the psycho-social wellbeing of children, and suitable modes of
delivery for a parent guidance intervention. Based on the findings of this study, I can conclude that
parents from the two communities were motivated to support the health and wellbeing of their children
and families; however, some structural and psychological barriers prevented them from adopting
healthy lifestyle behaviour and parenting practices. To this end, the parent participants identified
specific areas that they require additional support and guidance in, based on their unique life
circumstances. Furthermore, parents identified mobile technology as potential suitable way in which
guidance can be offered, in combination with parent workshops and information pamphlets. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2019. / Educational Psychology / MEd / Unrestricted

The learning path towards wellbeing : A qualitative study on the factors motivating elderly to participate in informal learning activitiesOancea, Alexandra-Maria January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of the study has been to discover what motivates the elderly to participate in informal learning activities after the retirement age. The study is qualitative, interpretation being used as the theoretical knowledge approach. The result is based on interviews that have been focusing on eight respondents aged over 65 years old residents in Ängelholm Municipality, Sweden. The interpretation of the data collected is mainly based on the Health Lifestyles theory (Cockerham, 2005) and on the framework for the benefits of learning (Schuller, 2004). The interviews were interpreted, thematized and presented as results in Chapter 5 of the present study. The interpretation resulted in four main themes: a healthier lifestyle, the feeling of self- realization, a new aim in life and an active social life. From those themes, the analysis of the results presents three main motivational factors that are found as stimulating the elderly to participate in informal learning activities: the psychological factor, the social factor and the healthy lifestyle factor. The study presents a clear connection between the mental wellbeing among the elderly and their participation in activities promoting informal learning. The results show clearly that elderly who are taking part in informal learning activities have a defined, active social life and a broad social network, signalling clearly the positive effects of learning activities on combating social isolation and loneliness. The results of the study can be used in future research projects analysing the concept of lifelong learning in the elderly age, and it can constitute as well a starting point for social strategies at the municipality and local level that focus on combating loneliness and social isolation among elderly.

Vliv zdravého životního stylu na zdravotní, emocionální a ekonomickou složku rodiny / The influence of healthy lifestyle on health, emotional and economic component familiesMazačová, Pavlína January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the contradiction between the situation, in which the development of healthcare, transformation of the political system and the changes in the environment, has had a major influence on the fact that we are now experiencing a higher age than people at the beginning of the period under review (since 1945). This gives us a sense of assurance of longevity, but the contradiction arises in reality, that lies in the perspective of chronic life, which eliminates us from the ordinary life very soon. Despite this fact, a number of countries have succeeded in achieving higher age limits, but a high age is not a reflection of better health, which reflects a main contradiction between expectations and reality, and it is the main research problem of this dissertaiton at the same time. The goal of this disertation was to find out the evolution of conditions of healthy lifestyle of individuals in the Czech society, between years 1945 and 2016. The second goal was to reflect the evolution of the health status of the whole society in the context of health policy focusing on stages divided into "decades". The dissertation used a combination of institutional analysis of public policy and author's own biographical research with seven respondents, using morphological analysis and...

From Theory to Design : Developing a smartphone behavioral intervention to promote physical activityMosesson, Martin January 2021 (has links)
Physical inactivity is a growing public health problem in the 21st century. A large proportion of the adult and adolescent population is not achieving recommended levels of physical activity which has significant consequences for both the individual and our society. With no evidence that the levels of physical inactivity will improve in the future, traditional methods of addressing this problem have evidently proven ineffective. A relatively new and promising approach to this problem that has become increasingly important in recent years is smartphone-based behavioral interventions to promote physical activity and other health-related behaviors. While several studies have shown many positive and promising results with this approach, other studies have also shown that the method is not completely understood. For instance, research shows that many of the health and fitness applications available today do not adequately adhere to behavior change strategies or health-related research, suggesting that these applications are not reaching their fullest potential. The goal of this study was to develop and evaluate an application to promote physical activity that was aligned with such research. A high-fidelity prototype based on the Behaviour Change Wheel was developed in Adobe XD and later evaluated by four participants. The outcome of the evaluation indicated that the developed prototype was well received overall, and participants believed it would trigger the desired behavior change of an increase in physical activity. However, due to the study limitations of unrepresentative participants and evaluation environment, time frame and application levels, nothing was truly proven in this regard. Further improvement of the prototype and future studies are needed to evaluate the prototype more accurately.

Den viktiga hälsoresan : En kritisk diskursanalys av hur en hälsosam livsstil konstrueras på Instagram / The heavy Healthjourney : A critical discourse analysis of how a healthy lifestyle is constructed on InstagramBjörklund, Nathalie January 2021 (has links)
