Theoretical study of spatiotemporal dynamics resulting from reaction-diffusion-convection processes / Etude théorique de dynamiques spatiotemporelles résultant de processus réaction-diffusion-convection

Gérard, Thomas 28 September 2011 (has links)

/
In industrial reactors or in nature, fluid flows can be coupled to chemical reactions. In many cases, the result is the emergence of complex structures whose properties depend among others on the geometry of the system.
In this context, the purpose of our thesis was to study theoretically using simple models of reaction-diffusion-convection, the properties of dynamics resulting from the coupling between chemistry and hydrodynamics.

We focused on the hydrodynamic instabilities of viscous and density fingering that occur respectively when a dense fluid is placed above a less dense one in the gravity field and when a viscous fluid is displaced by a less viscous fluid in a porous medium.

In particular, we studied the following issues:
- The influence of a chemical reaction type A + B → C on viscous fingering. We have shown that the fingering patterns observed during this instability depends on whether the reactant A is injected into the reactant B or vice versa if they do not have identical diffusion coefficients or initial concentrations.
- The role of heat losses through the reactor walls on the density fingering of exothermic autocatalytic fronts. We have characterized the conditions of stability of fronts depending on heat losses and explained the appearance of unusually hot areas during this instability.
- The influence of the inhomogeneity of the medium on the density fingering of reactive solutions or not. We have shown that spatial variations of permeability of a porous medium may freeze or generate oscillating fingering pattern under certain conditions.
- The influence of a transverse electric field on the Rayleigh-Taylor and diffusive instabilities of autocatalytic fronts. It was shown that this interaction may lead to new structures and may change the properties of the front.

In conclusion, we showed that the coupling between chemical reactions and hydrodynamic motions can generate new space-time structures whose properties depend among others, on the conditions imposed on the system. / Doctorat en Sciences / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

Novotný, Michal Unknown Date (has links)
The trend in today's civil engineering are growing demands for quality and comfort constructed buildings and spaces in them. This trend causes a change in the approach to designing buildings and building new buildings. One of the main directions great importance is attached dedicated reconstruction of buildings and their technical adjustments to meet the ever increasing demands being norms and laws. One of the most monitored parameters are thermal-technical characteristics of objects - i.e. better quality means saving on heating costs. In this connection there is a big trend of the modern construction industry and building insulation, mainly ETICS systems. Dissertation focuses on the basic (reinforced) layer of the ETICS and examines the effect of low temperatures, acting on the matter in the implementation of the system, the properties of this layer. This coating is one of the key elements of the system, which more or less determines the quality and durability of the system. The first part deals with the current state of the problem and generally insulation systems, basic types and the advantages and disadvantages of these systems. In the main part of the work is solution focused work, its objectives and methodology for testing materials using laboratory tests and are mentioned outputs of experiments in terms of results. The final section addresses the evaluation of the data and results and output for construction practice. The theme of work was also addressed in the specific research. Amélioration et intégration d'une méthode d'affichage des performances en temps réel d'une pompe à chaleur / Improvement and integration of the in-situ heat pump performance assessment method

Niznik, Maria 10 July 2017 (has links)
Currently, most heat pump(HP) manufacturers provide coefficient of performance (COP) values obtained in laboratories under standardized controlled operating conditions. These COP values are not necessarily representative of those obtained on-field. A promising method, referred to as the performance assessment method, that measures heat pump performances in-situ based on compressor energy balance, was presented by Tran et al. (2013). The method determines refrigerant mass flow rate and has the capability of measuring performances of various HP types, such as air-to-air, as well as more complex refrigeration cycles. The method abstains from intrusive measurements, and is, therefore, perfectly suitable for in-situ measurements. As shown in the work of Tran et al. (2013), compressor heat losses account for 40% in the final uncertainty of performance values obtained with the performance assessment method. The objective of this thesis is to establish a rather simplified measurement method, in terms of instrumentation, that is used to determine compressor heat losses in-situ. For this purpose two detailed numerical models for assessing the temperature fields of the scroll and rotary compressor shells were developed. Experimental measurements obtained with the help of compressor manufacturer, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), are used to validate and calibrate the numerical models. The developed numerical models allow to define two different measurement protocols for both compressors. Established compressor heat loss protocol for rotary compressor is then integrated in the performance assessment method and the obtained heating capacities are compared with reference measurements in an experimental test bench in EDF Lab Les Renardières.
