January 2008 (has links)
It has a complex dynamic in the soil-plant system being it changed by soil management. This study was conducted at Experimental Station of UNESP/FEIS, located in Selvíria-MS country, in a dystroferric Red Latosol (Haplustox) with the objective of evaluating the productivity and amount of nutrients from mass of covering plants of soil and the effect of the isolated and combined use of covering plants and fallow besides urea as sources of nitrogen for the highlands rice in the implantation of the no till system during the agricultural year 2001/02. The used experimental design was a randomized blocks with 24 treatments and four repetitions, disposed in a factorial scheme 4x2x3, constituted of four systems of covering plants of the soil: velvet bean, sunn hemp, millet and spontaneous vegetation (fallow); two rice cultivars: Primavera and IAC-202; and three N doses: 0, 50 and 100 kg ha-1 (Urea). It was evaluated: Soil chemical analysis in the layers from 0.0 to 0.10, 0.10 to 0.20 and 0.20 to 0.30 m, for pH, Ca, Mg, P, K, OM, H+Al and Al, N-total, and N mineral (NH4 + and NO3 -); the productivity of dry matter of the covering plants and of the spontaneous vegetation (fallow); concentration of nutrients in the covering plants, spontaneous vegetation and in the rice crop at flowering; cycle and height of the rice; panicles number and stems fertile m-2; spikelets number, grain quality, besides grain yield. The succession sunn hemp - rice promoted larger grain yield, being IAC-202 the cultivar more productive. The millet presented larger productivity of dry matter, being the best option among the species of covering plants. The doses of N increased the grain yield lineally, but they did not interfere in the mass of 1000 grains and in grain quality. The increase of the doses of N decreased the number... Formulation et étude des propriétés mécaniques d'agrobétons légers isolants à base de balles de riz et de chènevotte pour l'éco-construction / Design and mechanical properties of lightweight insulating bio-based concretes using rice husk and hemp hurd for green buildingChabannes, Morgan 26 November 2015 (has links)
The improvement of building energy efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions from the construction industry have become a major issue over the last years. We need to cut the energy consumption linked to heating and cooling of buildings during their operating period but also to choose materials with low carbon footprint using renewable and local resources.Hemp concretes are more and more used in green construction. These bio-based building materials consist of hemp-derived aggregates mixed with mineral binders and water. These concretes have attractive insulating properties and present some effectiveness in buffering variations of temperature and humidity in buildings. Considered as a multifunctional material, hemp concrete can offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional building envelopes but have the disadvantage of being very low strength. Unlike cellular concrete or clay bricks, hemp concretes cannot be used as load-bearing materials but for infilling walls with a wood timber frame. The aim of this thesis work is, on the one hand, to diversify plant aggregates used for the manufacturing of bio-based concretes by developing an innovative material based on local rice husk from the Camargue area and on the other hand to investigate some processes in order to increase mechanical strength of these materials after the first months of curing. The first objective of this work was to characterize rice husks prior to incorporating them in a lime-based mix. Intrinsic features of rice husks led to the manufacturing of a new bio-based concrete designed with a lower water content and a higher apparent density than hemp concrete (by remaining below 800 kg.m-3). Thermal conductivity of rice husk concrete was comparable to that of hemp concrete for a given « binder on aggregates (B/A) » mass ratio. Nevertheless, mechanical performances in compression have proved lower for the rice husk concrete after one month of hardening at 20°C and 50%RH. The second line of the work dealt with the evolution of mechanical properties and binder hardening over time. Specimens were cured during 10 months either at 20°C and 50%RH or exposed outdoors. Hemp concrete exhibited a higher compressive strength gain over time than that achieved for rice husk concrete despite a same hardening kinetics. This curing under natural carbonation was compared to an accelerated one (CO2 curing). Accelerated carbonation provided the opportunity to obtain the same compressive after 2 months than that reached after the outdoor exposure during 10 months. Considering that compressive strength of rice husk concrete is restricted by the bonding strength between the binder and the aggregates, this work also focused on the effect of a lime-water treatment of plant aggregates. This latter was not efficient for hemp concrete but increased compressive strength of rice husk concrete. Finally, the effect of a moist curing (95%RH) and elevated temperature (50°C) on binder hardening and strength development of bio-based concretes was investigated. This aspect was also studied on lime-based mortars. The results showed that this type of curing led to a strong increase of mechanical strength for the binder after 28 days due to kinetic effects on hydration reactions. Nevertheless, these curing conditions were detrimental to the transition zone between the binder and the plant aggregates and consequently counterproductive for the mechanical performances of bio-based concretes.

Produção do quiabeiro em função de diferentes tipos de adubação / PRODUCTION OF OKRA DUE TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF FERTILIZATION.Souza, Igor Machado de 25 April 2012 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the incorporation of two Sunn hemp species, organic and chemical fertilizers in the characteristics of development and
production of okra, in soil chemical properties, in the infestation of nematodes and weeds and in soil water tension. The study was conducted in the experimental area Projeto Pequeno Produtor Grande Empreendedor of Instituto Gbarbosa, in partnership with Universidade Federal de Sergipe, located in the city of Itabaiana 56 km from the Capital, Aracaju - SE. Were used 16 treatments, are these: testimony, incorporation of Crotalaria juncea, incorporation of Crotalaria spectabilis and incorporation of both; with organic manures and organic manure with incorporation of sunn hemp; with chemical fertilizers and chemical fertilizers with incorporation of sunn hemp; with both fertilizers and both fertilizers with sunn hemp. Were evaluated the characteristics of development, plant height, leaf length and width, stem diameter, dry and fresh leaves, production characteristics, number, weight, fruit size and productivity. Were also
evaluated soil characteristics, moisture, weed and nematode galls. The sunn hemp didn t show improvements in most of treatments, possibly due to the first cycle of cultivation.
The sampling period of 107 days was too short, being determinant for productivity. The treatments with organic manure were the best for all features of development and
production with larger plants, larger leaves, more marketable fruits per plant and higher productivities, with maximum productivity obtained in the treatment 14 (organic manure + chemical + C. juncea) (10.05 t ha-1). C. spectabilis showed higher concentration of nutrients, being 31.01, 23.41 and 5.03 g.kg-1 of N, P and K respectively. C. juncea showed 23.4 t ha-1 of fresh matter, greater than C. spectabilis.
Green manure increased only for the variables of size of leaves, and promoted improvements in soil chemical properties. The chemical fertilizer resulted in higher
levels of soil K, while the organic fertilizer with the use of crotalárias led to higher values of organic matter (O.M.) in the soil. All treatments were with moisture above field capacity.
C. juncea apresentou 23,4

Simulation numérique des transferts de chaleur et d’humidité dans une paroi multicouche de bâtiment en matériaux biosourcés / Numerical simulation of heat and moisture transfers in a building multi-layer wall made of bio-based materialsLelièvre, Dylan 08 January 2015 (has links)
In a context of energy efficiency and durability in the field of building, the understanding of hygrothermal behaviour of building materials, especially hygroscopic ones, is essential. This study aim to understand and model heat and moisture transfers in a multi-layer building wall made of biosourced materials. We focus in particular on hysteretic phenomena observed on sorption isotherms. A one-dimensional numerical model developed with the COMSOL Multiphysics software is used to simulate transient temperature and vapour pressure in three situations. The first one is about the hygrothermal behaviour of materials, highly hygroscopic (hemp concrete) and lowly hygroscopic (lime-based plasters), exposed to several cyclical variations of relative humidity. A good agreement is observed between simulated and measured values of relative humidity, temperature and moisture content. However, results are highly sensitive to hydric properties. Then, a study is performed on an instrumented hemp-concrete wall built in a bi-climatic chamber and exposed to simultaneous temperature and relative humidity variations. The confrontation between measured and simulated values shows the importance of initial moisture content.

The hemp/starch agro-composite is a new material consisting of 100% vegetal starch and hemp shives. It is a durable material for building and construction. The aim of this thesis is to innovate, develop and optimize the agro-composites and those properties mechanical, acoustic and thermal behavior. In this work, experimental tests on the mechanical, thermal and acoustic behavior have been carried out. A particular and innovative binder has been preliminarily tested and analyzed in order to determine optimum composition. Both parameters studied are: hemp/starch (C/A) ratio and size of hemp shives. Various mixtures of hemp shives 0-20 mm or 0-15 mm with 0-5 mm were studied by varying the hemp/starch (C/A) ratio from 6, 8, 10, 12 to 14. The comparison and analysis of results allows making the obvious influence of each parameter on the characteristics of our hemp/starch agro-composite. The hemp/starch agro-composite with mixtures hemp shives 0-5/0-15 mm and 0-5/0-20 mm, show that there is a formulation that achieves optimum mechanical behavior, better acoustic behavior and excellent thermal behavior.

Currently, few re-use ways are developed with clay fines from washing units in quarries. However, these clayey fines represent interesting materials for construction domain. This research work aims to develop non-load bearing precast products and to re-use these fines without thermal treatment as for unfired clay products. Two types of precast products are wished: a “heavy” product (compressed earth brick) and a “light” product (tile hemp-clay).For the CEB re-use way, the level of compaction has to be high. Proctor tests have been done to define the moisture content and dry density to obtain. Mechanical performances of bricks have been increased by overcompaction, granular reinforcement and lime treatment. For the tile re-use way, mixes with quarry fines and hemp have been studied. The behaviour of fresh material has been studied with VEBE consistometer. Flexural and compression strengths have been measured on hardened mixes. Lime and water-reducing agent have been necessary for a good mechanical behaviour. The two re-use ways have been validated by measuring mechanical and physical performances of products manufactured at industrial scale. The optimal mix for CEB includes almost 80% of quarry fines. The CEB is classed in BTC40 category according to experimental standard XP13-901 (brick with a low water absorption level and resistant to water spray). The optimal mix for tile includes 60% of quarry fines and satisfies mechanical requirements for gypsum blocks.

Environmentally acceptable friction compositesNewby, William Robert January 2014 (has links)
Currently, the production of most non-asbestos organic (NAO) friction materials depends on a long and energy intensive manufacturing process and an unsustainable supply of synthetic resins and fibres; it is both expensive and bad for the environment. In this research, a new, more energy efficient, manufacturing process was developed which makes use of a naturally derived resin and natural plant fibres. The new process is known as 'cold moulding' and is fundamentally different from the conventional method. It was used to develop a new brake pad for use in low temperature (<400 °C) applications, such as rapid urban rail transit (RURT) trains. A commercially available resin based upon cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) was analysed and found to have properties suitable for cold moulding. In addition, hemp fibre was identified as a suitable composite reinforcement. This was processed to improve its morphology and blended with aramid to improve its thermal stability. Each stage of cold mould manufacture was thoroughly investigated and the critical process parameters were identified. The entire procedure was successfully scaled up to produce an industrially sized 250 kg batch of material and the resultant composites were found to have appropriate thermal and mechanical properties for use in a rail brake pad. The tribological performance of these composites was iteratively developed through a rigorous testing and evaluation procedure. This was performed on both sub- and full-scale dynamometers. By adding various abrasives, lubricants, and fillers to the formulation it was possible to produce a brake pad with similar friction characteristics to the current market material, but with a 60% lower wear rate. In addition, this brake pad caused 15% less wear to the brake disc. A detailed examination of both halves of the friction couple found that cold moulded composites exhibit a different wear mechanism from the current market material, which was suggested to be the reason for their superior properties. Cold moulding is 3.5x faster and uses 400% less energy than the conventional method.

Développement de composites bio-sourcés destinés à l’isolation des bâtiments / Development of bio-based composites for building insulationViel, Marie 23 November 2018 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to develop new bio-based building insulating materials which contribute to reduce their environmental impacts. The developed materials shall have low embodied energy and low carbon footprint. They shall contribute to reduce energy needs of buildings and to ensure high hygrothermal comfort of users. First, raw materials from agricultural resources (hemp shiv, flax shiv, wheat straw, rape straw and corn cobs) are characterized from a chemical, physical, hygrothermal and mechanical point of view, with a aim of developing bio-based composites for the thermal insulation of buildings. Their chemical composition is interesting for the development of green binder. A study to assess this ability is carried out. At the end of the study, two binders corresponding to extractions performed on corn cobs and flax fines are developped. Other binders from industry are also selected for composite production. Then, composites are produced to study the influence of aggregates, binder, granulometry of aggregates, alkaline pre-treatment of aggregates and compaction pressure applied during the processing of composites on their hygrothermal performances and mechanical properties. Finally, the resistance to accidental immersion and humidity and the reaction to fire of the most promising formulations are studied.

Industrihampa : En kvalitativ studie angående attityder till en växtbaserad dryck tillverkad av industrihampa / Industrial hemp : A qualitative study about attitudes to a plant-based drink made of industrial hempGartz Levin, Fanny January 2021 (has links)
The climate change is a fact, and the global food production is responsible for 25 – 30 % of the greenhouse gases. To reduce the emissions major changes are needed in the society. For the individuals, a reduced intake of food products made of animals can make a big difference for the environment. To succeed in this matter, a change of attitude and increased knowledge among consumers in the society is required. The purpose of the study is to investigate consumers attitudes and interest in a beverage made of Swedish-grown hemp. Relevant literature and theory were used to gain an increased understanding of people’s food choices and preferences. Focus groups were used as method to interpret consumer’s attitudes about various factors of the hemp beverage. The selection of participants was based on heterogeneous groups with different genders, age and education and the purpose of this was to have a broader discussion among the participants. The study resulted in four different themes with focus around the hemp beverage. It is about the taste, Interest and awareness of Swedish products, The markets added value and Attractive with a clear content. These four different themes are helpful to get an overall picture of consumers knowledge and awareness, but also what is in demand in the market, from a consumer’s perspective. Humankind is a complex being and there is much to consider when change occurs, especially when it is about food and meal. In summary, there is a great interest and awareness for sustainable food choices among consumers, and a strong desire to change their eating habits for a better environment.
