Hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck : Unga kvinnors erfarenheter av socialtjänsten / Honor-related violence and oppression : Young women's experiences with social services

Ahmed, Sara, Backman, Pernilla January 2018 (has links)
This study intends to investigate how young women, who have been subjected to honor-related violence and oppression, experience the support of the social services based on the power perspective and the KASAM theory. We have in the study used qualitative methods to conduct semi-structured interviews. Eight young women who had been in contact with the social services were interviewed. Previous research has primarily studied the client's experience of contact with the social services. Studies that concern women who have been subjected to honor-related violence and oppression are very limited. Research in this area should therefore be sought. The study's results showed that young women's expectations did not match the experience of contact with the social services. The results analysis showed that the social services support and assistance efforts are far too short-term where women are left behind and are expected to handle their difficulties on their own.

Kalous, Araxsia, Hadi, Sura January 2019 (has links)
This study examines how social secretaries work with girls 13-18 years old as exposed to honor violence. The study is based on five qualitative semi-structured interviews with social secretaries from the receiving- and investigation-units and the empirical data has been analyzed from the intersectional and the cultural perspective. The result shows that social secretaries within the units have mixed perceptions regarding the definitions of HRV, both a culture-based view and an intersectional of the phenomenon. It appears from the study that most of the social secretaries work by an action plan, that no specific method is applied within the units and that there are no clear visions or goals against HRV, whereupon the social workers don’t work preventive to HRV. The result also shows the complexity among the social workers in defining HRV. In addition, the result show that some of the respondents work on the basis of an action plan, that no specific method is applied in the work within the unit and that they don’t have clear visions / goals for the work against HRV. Challenges they face are lack of knowledge regarding the handling of cases. The results also show that mental stress is common among social secretaries but also threats of violence against the social secretaries.

The Shame of Preserving Honor: Why Honor Killings Still Plague the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the 21st Century

Hartman, Krysten Brooke 01 January 2010 (has links)
In Jordan, a woman is often murdered by members of her own family if she is found to have tainted the family's honor in any way. Refusing to enter into an arranged marriage, being seen alone with a male stranger or even wearing makeup have all been cited as incidents that shame the family and result in what are called "honor killings". These honor killings have continued to plague Jordan, and other countries in the Middle East, well into the 21st century, despite the country's progress towards modernization. The dominance of the patriarchal family and the inability of the country to experience economic growth are strong contributors to the perpetuation of these horrible crimes in a country that is considered to be relatively modern in this day and age.

Chocano, Magdalena 12 April 2018 (has links)
Through an examination of several episodes we will study the persistence of the practice of duels and honor fights in the political atmosphere of republican Peru. Each episode reveals different interests which aimed to maintain the duel as a mechanism to avoid or limit freedom of expression or debate. A good number of members of the political and social elite defended dueling in the press as an acceptable practice even though it was penalized by government law. This attitude can be seen as concomitant with repression of political organizations in the country and the maintaining of a type of patriarchal domination which called for the prolonged exclusion of women from citizenship.

Ben Yazza, Nathalie, Mamlesi, Golan January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to illustrate partly how the definition of "honor-related violence" is used in the social welfare report and how "honors" are used in current Swedish research and in a central book. The paper examines the consequences for social security officers when "honor-related violence" is defined in a variety of ways while working to prevent the phenomenon. The empirical essay consists of different texts and research that focus on different definitions of "honors concept". Research on the issue of "honorary violence" also analyzes the work of the Social Security Officers. The method is qualitative text analysis, and the coding consists of questions that have been faced with the analysis of the material. Our authors have endeavored to have a factual and research approach in the work of this paper.Central findings in the study are that "honor-related violence" is described from cultural, historical, and intersectional perspectives. Some texts analyzed are based on cultural and historical starting points in the description of violence, and refer primarily to norms and values as a basis in society. Other research criticizes this approach and emphasizes that cultural aspects can lead to discrimination against certain groups. When "honor-related violence" is explained from a cross-sectional perspective, research takes place from different basic constructions into why violence occurs, and addresses class and gender as important prerequisites for describing "honor-related violence". The current Social Security Officer's perception of honor, then a discussion in the paper about the importance of assuming each case is unique and not drawing general conclusions to support the victim in the best possible way.

A Woman's Truth : Four Women's Personal Stories of Being Victims of Honor-Related Violence

Mirza, Avesta January 2013 (has links)
Honor related violence has become a recognized abuse all over the world and violence against women carried out by the men in their families is and has always been a resurfacing problem in all societies. This paper will focus on the problems which relate to cultures where honor related violence is a more common practice and will depart from societies where men can take violent actions against women in the name of family honor and hide behind cultural exemptions. This paper is written to create a deeper insight to the needs and wants of subjected women and to understand their own perception of this type of violence and its underlying causes. This paper takes on the view solely of the subjected women and is a direct presentation of their stories and their lives. Instead of using outside observers this paper goes directly to the women living in these types of situations and represents the women based on their own wants and needs from society and authority. The methodological framework for this paper is through an inductive process of writing and is through observations and unstructured interviews trying to build a systematic description revolving around the victims of honor related violence. The interviews, biographic narratives, will ask the participants to tell a story about their lives, a biographic narrative where they will freely speak and this will be facilitated during eight in-depth interviews with four different women who during many years lived under abuse carried out in the name of honor by two husband, a father, and several uncles. The results of these interviews lead to the conclusions that women often are ignored and forgotten by outside forces such as police and organizations until a crime is committed.

Socialt arbete i skuggan av det hedersrelaterade   våldet / Social work in the shadow of the honor-related violence

Batti, Arin, Adam, Jasmin January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of the current study was to explore how social workers experience their knowledge and resources in their work with honor-related violence and oppression. We conducted a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with five social workers from two different municipalities in Sweden, who worked with honor-related violence and oppression. Collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The result showed a lack of knowledge and resources in the area, which resulted in a lack of security in the workplace. The result also showed the connection between power and knowledge and that these are interconnected and interdependent. Lack of knowledge in turn constitutes powerlessness. Knowledge thus becomes a lifeline for the social worker to be able to exercise the power needed to help victims of honor-related violence and oppression. Our study indicates that more research is needed that gives new perspectives on a work with honor-related violence and oppression.

Socialtjänstens attityder till unga män i hederskulturer : En kvantitativ enkätstudie / Social services' attitudes towards young men in honor cultures : A quantitative survey

Helgeroth, Sofia, Sers, Josefin January 2021 (has links)
The study is a quantitative survey and takes the help of previous research to strengthen its results. Honor is a topic that is constantly relevant and several authorities in Sweden are actively working to counteract the violence and oppression that takes place in honor cultures. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether there are differences in attitudes about how employees in the social services' children and youth offices view young men in comparison with young women in honor cultures. The study is important as it shows differences in attitudes among employees in the social services where the young men are considered less vulnerable in these areas studied: shame, ostracism, threats of violence, the experience of violence, double life, forced marriage, being a victim and being forced to control their family members in comparison with the young women. The focus of the study is to shed light on the young men's situation of being a victim in honor cultures. The study contributes to increasing knowledge about the young men's situation, but more research in the field is requested.

“No Honor in Honor Killings” Critical Discourse Analysis of the responses in social media to ‘Honor’ related killings events via Hashtag activism in the Arab-speaking region

Alkowatly, Lina January 2020 (has links)
The patriarchal societies in the MENA region have their entire social framework around the protection and regulation of female sexuality. The woman’s male relatives have to make sure that her honor is under their control and fulfills the patriarchal family demands. Women’s failure to stick to the code of honor may result in aggressive reactions that may mount to honor killings and this had happened in 2019 to Israa Gharyeb. The murder of the 21-year-old girl sent a shockwave of protests not just in the Palestinian society where the crime had happened but also across the Arab region. Activists on social media and the streets are sending a clear and strong message that murdering women will not be hidden anymore. Accordingly, this thesis sheds the light on the Twitter hashtag # كلنا_اسراء_غریب (we are all Israa) to reflect on the participants’ responses to both crime event and the traditional discourse on “Honor killings.” Theoretically, the paper offers a rereading of the theory of critical discourse analyses on the notions of ideology, power, and dominance. Empirically, this paper will analyze 460 tweets by conducting critical discourse analysis and qualitative content analysis.
