Relationship between Implementing Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and Fifth Graders' Attitudes toward School.

Arnold, Emory Dwain 01 May 2001 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this causal-comparative study was to determine if a relationship exists between implementing Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and fifth graders' attitudes toward school. The focus population consisted of fifth grade students within a 300-mile radius of Kingsport, Tennessee. Surveys were administered to students at 15 elementary schools. Data were collected from five schools identified as implementing multiple intelligences theory, five schools identified as partially implementing multiple intelligences theory, and five schools identified as not implementing multiple intelligences theory in educational planning. Data collected primarily focused on students' attitudes toward school; however, information concerning gender was also solicited. The study employed quantitative data, and descriptive analysis was performed. Findings indicated that there was no significant difference in students' attitudes toward school among fifth graders attending schools implementing multiple intelligences theory, fifth graders attending schools partially implementing multiple intelligences theory, and fifth graders attending schools not implementing multiple intelligences theory. There were no gender related differences found. All 15 schools participating in the study could be characterized as institutions having good academic records, community support, and a dedicated faculty. The major conclusion was that these factors and others identified in the review of literature could affect students' attitudes toward school and possibly contribute to the closeness of the means among the three implementation groups.

Johansson, Ann January 2010 (has links)
Hur upplever eleverna arbetet i skolträdgården?

[pt] A PUBLICIDADE NO BRASIL: AGÊNCIAS, PODERES E MODOS DE TRABALHO (1914 - 2014) / [en] ADVERTISING IN BRAZIL: ADVERTISING AGENCIES, POWER RELATIONS AND WORK METHODS (1914 - 2014)

BRUNA SANTANA AUCAR 26 October 2016 (has links)
[en] This dissertation provides an interpretative analysis on advertising agencies in Brazil in order to broadly examine the main movements in the field of advertising during the past one hundred years. We have relied on the assumption that the agency is the ownership that establishes conditions for the advertising sector s recognition as well as the social emergence of the ad, as an outcome and expression of social interaction and collective action types. The chronological framework is set as of the establishment of Eclética, in 1914, the first organization that devises a professional approach and sets the capacity building of a yet unknown professional segment. The survey pursues a constant on-going mapping of the agencies, the paths, and linkages with historical-cultural transformations, enhancing the entrepreneurial development in order to discuss the burden of the advertising speech vis-a-vis the cultural code heritage. The core focus is on the consideration of the social players and their actions as inherent part of the production of knowledge and issuance of cultural identities in a specific social system. By means of a bibliographic intersection with the productive routine of advertising, have endeavored to reach the final result of a joint performance of identities which crossing is of the utmost importance for its feasibility. Furthermore, Howard Becker s collective action theory anchors a profound reflection of the cultural identities of the subjects that convey the ads in an advertising agency, inasmuch as its ways of performance, historically produced for this communication device. The theoretical framework that has been considered, highlights as well, the cultural perspective of advertising and papers that enhance the prominence of symbolism when establishing cultural meanings. Besides the internal environment of the advertising organization, this survey contemplates, in a broader sense, advertising as a central narrative of modern contemporary culture inasmuch as it produces and circles issues that impact subjectivities and convey components to establish signs and practices that define us as a Consumption Society.

Hobbit & Sagan om ringen : En analys av ledmotivens berättarfunktioner i två fantasy-trilogier / The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings : An analysis of the leitmotifs narrative function in two fantasy-trilogies

Olle, Wictorson January 2024 (has links)

Seiller, Thomas 13 November 2012 (has links)
This work is a study of the geometry of interaction in the hyperfinite factor introduced by Jean-Yves Girard, and of its relations with ancient constructions. We start by showing how to obtain purely geometrical adjunctions as an identity between sets of cycles appearing between graphs. It is then possible, by chosing a function that measures those cycles, to obtain a numerical adjunction. We then show how to construct, on the basis of such a numerical adjunction, a geometry of interaction for multiplicative additive linear logic where proofs are interpreted as graphs. We also explain how to define from this construction a denotational semantics for MALL, and a notion of truth. We extend this setting in order to deal with exponential connectives and show a full soundness result for a variant of elementary linear logic (ELL). Since the constructions on graphs we define are parametrized by a function that measures cycles, we then focus our study to two particular cases. The first case turns out to be a combinatorial version of GoI5, and we thus obtain a geometrical caracterisation of its orthogonality which is based on Fuglede-Kadison determinant. The second particular case we study will giveus a refined version of older constructions of geometry of interaction, where orthogonality is based on nilpotency. This allows us to show how these two versions of GoI, which seem quite different, are related and understand that the respective adjunctions are both consequences of a unique geometrical property. In the last part, we study the notion of subjective truth.

Beginning all over again : a metaxological natural theology of the arts

Brewer, Christopher R. January 2015 (has links)
Following Russell Re Manning, I acknowledge the diversity and persistence of natural theology. Going further than Re Manning, however, I propose a 5-type taxonomy stretching from natural theology as natural religion to natural theology as theology of nature. Having met this descriptive responsibility, I then turn in a second chapter to prescriptive possibility in dialogue with the Anglican theologian Howard E. Root (1926–2007). An early advocate of natural theology and the arts, Root called in his 1962 essay, “Beginning All Over Again,” for awareness (i.e., of the arts) rather than formal argument. Critiqued by E.L. Mascall and others, Root responded in his 1972 Bampton Lectures, “The Limits of Radicalism.” Never published, I discovered these lectures in an uncatalogued box at Lambeth Palace Library, London. Drawing upon these lectures, as well as other archival materials, I consider Root's contribution to a natural theology of the arts. That said, Root's work requires further development, and so in an effort to recover Root I have supplemented his contribution with the more recent work of David Brown, his unacknowledged theological heir. In an effort to recover Root more fully I turn in a third chapter to consider the philosopher William Desmond, the result of which is a metaxologically reformulated Root-Brown hybrid. In a fourth and final chapter, I consider the American contemporary artist Jonathan Borofsky and several others in order to see how this theoretical frame might be applied in practice as a metaxological natural theology of the arts.

Det profetiska kallets baksida : Om John Howard Yoders teologiskt motiverade övergrepp / The Downside of the Prophetic Notion : On John Howard Yoder's theologically motivated abuse

Melin, Tova January 2022 (has links)
This thesis aims to discuss the theologically motivated sexual violence of John Howard Yoder, in the light of the writings of queer theologian Marcella Althaus-Reid and also feminist theologian Mary Daly, and others. Attention is put on how the hurt persons might be left out of a theology for redemption of the sinner, how an idealized view of the congregation risk hurting the personal capacity for judgement, and on how a prophetic calling to cross boundaries might end up protecting transgressive violence.

Normalisation & equivalence in proof theory & type theory

Lengrand, Stéphane J. E. January 2006 (has links)
At the heart of the connections between Proof Theory and Type Theory, the Curry-Howard correspondence provides proof-terms with computational features and equational theories, i.e. notions of normalisation and equivalence. This dissertation contributes to extend its framework in the directions of proof-theoretic formalisms (such as sequent calculus) that are appealing for logical purposes like proof-search, powerful systems beyond propositional logic such as type theories, and classical (rather than intuitionistic) reasoning. Part I is entitled Proof-terms for Intuitionistic Implicational Logic. Its contributions use rewriting techniques on proof-terms for natural deduction (Lambda-calculus) and sequent calculus, and investigate normalisation and cut-elimination, with call-by-name and call-by-value semantics. In particular, it introduces proof-term calculi for multiplicative natural deduction and for the depth-bounded sequent calculus G4. The former gives rise to the calculus Lambdalxr with explicit substitutions, weakenings and contractions that refines the Lambda-calculus and Beta-reduction, and preserves strong normalisation with a full notion of composition of substitutions. The latter gives a new insight to cut-elimination in G4. Part II, entitled Type Theory in Sequent Calculus develops a theory of Pure Type Sequent Calculi (PTSC), which are sequent calculi that are equivalent (with respect to provability and normalisation) to Pure Type Systems but better suited for proof-search, in connection with proof-assistant tactics and proof-term enumeration algorithms. Part III, entitled Towards Classical Logic, presents some approaches to classical type theory. In particular it develops a sequent calculus for a classical version of System F_omega. Beyond such a type theory, the notion of equivalence of classical proofs becomes crucial and, with such a notion based on parallel rewriting in the Calculus of Structures, we compute canonical representatives of equivalent proofs.
