Este proyecto tiene como propósito presentar, de manera estructurada, tendencias de tecnologías de información hacia los próximos años. Asimismo, identificar cuáles son las principales tecnologías que van a ser más relevantes y, a partir de esta fuente, elaborar una cartera de proyectos orientado a los conocimientos que se proveen dentro de la EISC. A través de esto, se podrá contribuir al desarrollo de futuros proyectos en la Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. Las fuentes de referencia de las tendencias de TI serán las que brindan Gartner, Forrester e IDC. Asimismo, realizar un benchmarking sobre las metodologías que brindan cada una de estas organizaciones. El proyecto se desarrolla en diferentes etapas, las cuales serán plasmadas dentro del documento a través de capítulos, donde se define la descripción del proyecto, objetivo de estudio, problemática y planteamiento de la solución. Esto se verá reflejado en el desarrollo de la investigación tomando como base las tecnologías y profundizando el contexto y su aplicación hacia el futuro. Asimismo, el desarrollo del proceso metodológico para la obtención de resultados y la gestión debida para estos. / This project aims to present in a structured, trends of information technology to the next five years. Also, identify key technologies that will be more relevant and, from this source, develop a portfolio of projects oriented knowledge are provided within the EISC are. Through this, it will contribute to the development of future projects in the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences. Reference sources IT trends will be providing Gartner, Forrester and IDC. Interdigitated capacitor sensor for complex dielectric constant sensing

The objective of this thesis is to develop a complex dielectric properties sensor using interdigitated capacitor (IDC) structure. IDCs are easy to fabricate and because of its planar structure, it can be easily integrated with other sensing components and signal processing electronics. The design, fabrication, modeling, and testing of IDC sensors are presented in this thesis. Design parameters and their influence on sensor's output signals are discussed. Previous IDC models are reviewed and the limitations are studied. A new equivalent circuit model based on the fringing electric field distribution and a novel iterative data extraction algorithm combining Finite-Element Method (FEM) and the equivalent circuit model is studied. Results suggest that the algorithm can accurately extract relatively low dielectric constant and conductivity of material under test (MUT) from measured impedance data. / text

Soybean Leaf Chlorophyll Estimation and Iron Deficiency Field Rating Determination at Plot and Field Scales Through Image Processing and Machine Learning

Iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC) is the most common reason for chlorosis in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) and causes an average yield loss of 120 million dollars per year across 1.8 million ha in the North Central US alone. As the most effective way to avoid IDC is the use of tolerant cultivars, they are visually rated for IDC by experts; however, this method is subjective and not feasible for a larger scale. An alternate more objective image processing method can be implemented in various platforms and fields. This approach relies on a color vegetation index (CVI) that can quantify chlorophyll, as chlorophyll content is a good IDC indicator. Therefore, this research is aimed at developing image processing methods at leaf, plot, and field scales with machine learning methods for chlorophyll and IDC measurement. This study also reviewed and synthesized the IDC measurement and management methods. Smartphone digital images with machine learning models successfully estimated the chlorophyll content of soybean leaves infield. Dark green color index (DGCI) was the best-correlated CVI with chlorophyll. The pixel count of four different ranges of DGCI (RPC) was used as input features for different models, and the support vector machine produced the highest performance. Handheld camera images of soybean plots extracted DGCI, which mimicked visual rating, and canopy size that were used as inputs to decision-tree based models for IDC classification. The AdaBoost model was the best model in classifying IDC severity. Unmanned aerial vehicle soybean IDC cultivar trial fields images extracted DGCI, canopy size, and their product (CDP) for IDC severity monitoring and yield prediction. The area under the curve (AUC) was employed to aggregate the data into a single value through time, and the correlation between all the features and yield was good. Although CDP at latest growth stage had the highest correlation with yield, AUC of CDP was the most consistent index for soybean yield prediction. This research demonstrated that digital image processing along with the machine learning methods can be successfully applied to the soybean IDC measurement and the various soybean related stakeholders can benefit from this research.

Contribution des informations expérimentales et expertes à l'amélioration des modèles linéaires d'étalonnage multivarié en spectrométrie / Cooperation between experimental and expert informations for improving spectrometer calibrations

Les spectres contiennent de l'information sur la composition d'échantillons. Cette information est extraite au moyen d'une première famille d'outils chimiométriques, les étalonnages. Une deu xième famille d'outils, les prétraitements, est destinée à enlever une information spectrale nuisible. Etalonnages et prétraitements sont construits à partir de deux types d'informations: (1) les informations expérimentales basées sur l'expérience; (2) les informations expertes basées sur la connaissance a priori. L'objectif de la thèse est d'étudier les complémentarités et synergies entre ces deux types d'informations. Après une étude bibliographique, un modèle général commun aux étalonnages et prétraitements est proposé. L'information utile ou nuisible contenue dans un spectre est obtenue par projection orthogonale de ce spectre (selon un métrique Sigma) sur une matrice P dont les colonnes constituent une base de l'espace vectoriel associé à l'information utile ou nuisible. Selon les cas, l'information utile est conservée alors que l'information nuisible est éliminée. Le modèle général est ensuite implémenté par deux nouvelles méthodes. L'IDC-Improved Direct Calibration est une méthode d'étalonnage direct utilisant conjointement des informations expérimentales et expertes. Ensuite VODKA-PLSR est une généralisation de la PLSR. Un vecteur r est mis en évidence, il permet d'inclure de l'information experte dans le modèle. En conclusion ce travail permet une vision plus synthétique des modèles existants, propose deux nouveaux modèles d'étalonnage et ouvre de nombreuses possibilités pour créer de nouveaux modèles d'étalonnage et de prétraitement. / Spectra contain informations about the composition of samples. This information is obtained using calibration. Harmful spectral information can be previoulsy withdrawn using pretraitments. Both calibration and pretraitment models are based on two types of informations: (1) experimental information based on measurements onto samples; (2) expert information based on a previous knowledge. The aim of this thesis is to study the links between those two types of information. After a biography review, a general model including both calibrations and pretraitments is proposed. The usefull or harmful spectral information is obtained after spectra have been orthogonaly projected (with a Sigma metrix ) onto a P matrix whose columns define a basis of the vectorial subspace described by the usefull or harmful information. Thus usefull information is kept whereas harmful information is withdrawn. Two new methods are proposed. First IDC-Improved Direct Calibra tion is a direct calibration method using both experimental and expert informations. Then VODKA-PLSR is a generalisation of PLSR. A vector r permits the use of expert information by the regression model. To conclude, this works allows a global view of existing tools, proposes two new models and offers new possibilities for building new models.

Assessing orientations to cultural difference of the faculty of a university foundation programme in the Gulf Cooperation Council : a mixed-methods approach informed by the Intercultural Development Continuum and using the Intercultural Development Inventory

This study examined the orientations to cultural difference of sojourner educators in the Foundation Program at Qatar University to determine if orientations were correlated with select demographic and experiential variables, including gender, age, time overseas, education level, formative region, ethnic minority status, job position, length of time in Qatar, intercultural marriage, default language, formal teacher training, and overseas development organization experience. This study used a sequential mixed-method design. Perceived and Developmental Orientations were measured using the Intercultural Development Inventory© (V.3), which produced a measure of each respondent’s orientation to cultural difference. Focus group interviews were conducted to engage participants in explaining and interpreting the findings. Five focus groups of three to six participants each were conducted. Most of the teachers were found to operate from within the transitional orientation of Minimization, although individual scores ranged from Denial to Adaptation. On average, the educators were found to overestimate their orientations by 31 points. A positive correlation between orientation and formative region was found, with participants from North America showing the highest orientation. Statistically significant differences emerged for orientations when comparing Middle East and North African (MENA) and North American formative regions. Formative region was found to account for 4.8% of the variance in orientation and is a significant fit of the data. Focus groups participants speculated that (a) core differences regarding multiculturalism in MENA and North American cultures help explain the results, (b) aspects of the workplace culture and both the broader MENA and local Qatari culture encourage a sense of exclusion, and (c) external events further complicate cross-cultural relations. The study findings add to the literature by providing baseline orientation data on sojourner educators in post-secondary education in the GCC region, and by confirming some of the findings of similar studies. The study provides practitioners with suggestions for staffing and professional development. Future research should focus on the measurement of orientations in broader samples of educators, changes in orientation over time in Qatar and other cultural contexts, differences in orientation among short-term vs. long-term expatriates, the impact of employment systems and societal structures on orientations in sojourner educators, the impact of educator orientation to cultural difference on student achievement, and the design of effective cross-cultural professional development for educators.

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate on the basis of information provided by IDC - FOOD, Ltd. the fulfilment of requirements for ISO 9001 quality management system and identify possible areas for improvement. Furthermore, the aim is to assess the impact the introduction of the quality management system on the functioning of society. The first part of the thesis deals with the theoretical definition of quality and development of care of quality. It also describes approaches to quality management and their development. In the next section IDC - FOOD, Ltd. is introduced, and further it is discussed how the organization implemented and fulfils the requirements of ISO 9001, also possible improvements are identified. At the end of the practical section the impacts of implementing quality management system are then summarized.

Passive inductively coupled wireless sensor for dielectric constant sensing

In order to address the challenges of capacitive sensing in harsh environment, self resonant passive wireless sensors are studied. The capacitive sensing elements based on interdigitated capacitor (IDC) sensor are used. A semi-empirical model providing accurate capacitance calculation for IDCs over a wide range of dimensions and dielectric constants is developed. An equivalent circuit model based on electric field distribution is proposed, leading to a closed form approximation for IDC capacitance calculation. The conductivity of the material under test is also considered and a model is proposed to calculate effective capacitance as a function of conductivity and measurement frequency. The model is used to study the design optimization of IDC sensor and suggested design procedure is proposed. To wirelessly interrogate the capacitive sensor, it is connected to an inductive element to form a resonant circuit, while the measurement is made at remote reader coil. Advantages and disadvantages of different type of resonant structure design are analyzed. In order to assist the design process, a SPICE circuit model is developed to estimate the resonant frequency of the self resonant sensor. Miniaturized sensors with different dimensions are designed, fabricated and tested. The sensor is integrated with silicon nanowire fabric coated with polymer. Measurements are made to illustrate the enhancement in sensing capability by integrating chemical selective material. / text
