EHR READINESS AND CLINICAL INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION AND ANALYSISMukherjee, Basudeb 10 1900 (has links)

Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRs) are an important tool for today’s physicians. EHRs (commonly called EMRs in Canada) are used to store, retrieve and leverage patient information to achieve better clinical outcomes for patients. EHRs can also contribute to public policy by helping policy makers track population health data. There are barriers as well as drivers to successful implementation of EHRs. Also, with the introduction of EHRs and their accumulation of patient data physicians face challenges for better extraction and use of data as well as overall management of information within the clinic.

This thesis performs a literature review and presents evidence on the barriers and drivers that exist in the area of EHR (Electronic Health Records) implementation in the US. The thesis also includes a survey that tracks responses of primary care physicians in the US. The responses were analyzed to determine key factors impacting EHR implementation and information management. The key factors included workflow, optimization of information technology (IT) resources that include software, hardware assets and trained personnel, and plan for extraction of data. Our research found, among other things, the need to raise awareness among physicians about optimizing clinical workflow, management of information in the EHRs, the need for additional training on the EHRs and, in case of non-urban physicians, the need for improved levels of IT and Internet expertise in the clinic.
/ Master of Science (MSc)

Operations management research: contemporary themes, trends and potential future directionsTaylor, Andrew, Taylor, Margaret January 2009 (has links)
No / Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to identify the contemporary research themes published in IJOPM in order to contribute to current debates about the future directions of operations management (OM) research.
Design/methodology/approach
All 310 articles published in IJOPM from volume 24 issue 9 in 2004 through volume 29, issue 12 in 2009 are analysed using content analysis methods. This period of analysis is chosen because it represents all the articles published in issues for which the authors are able to have full control, during their period of tenure as Editors of the journal. This analysis is supplemented by data on all 1,853 manuscripts submitted to the journal during the same time period and further, by analysis of reviews and feedback sent to all authors after review.
Findings
The paper reports the main research themes and research methods inherent in the 310 published papers. Statistics on the countries represented by these papers and the size and international composition of author teams are provided, together with the publication success rates of the countries that submit in the highest volumes, and the success rates associated with the size of the author team. Finally, data on the reasons for rejection of manuscripts are presented.
Research limitations/implications
There is some residual inaccuracy in content analysis methods, whereby, in extracting research themes there is often more than one topic covered. In the same vein, as regards categorisation of the causes of rejection of manuscripts during the review process, there is frequently more than one reason for rejection, so perhaps a weighted scoring system would have been more insightful. In determining the country of origin of papers, while the country of the corresponding author is used, it should be recognised that some studies originate from international collaborations so that this method may give a slightly distorted picture. Finally, in computing publication success rates by comparison of submissions and published papers there is a time delay between the two data sets within any defined period of analysis.
Practical implications
The analysis adds generally to debates about contemporary research themes; in particular it extends the work of Pilkington and Fitzgerald, which analyses all articles solely in IJOPM between 1994 and 2003. In addition, the findings suggest a need for more frequent exploitation of multiple research methods, for greater rigour in the planning and execution of fieldwork, for greater engagement with the world of OM practice and finally, consideration of how OM research can address wider social and political issues.
Originality/value
This paper represents an inside view of the publication process from a leading OM journal; this kind of insight is rarely available in the public domain.

Human resource capacity for information management in selected public healthcare facilities in Meru County, Kenya.Kiilu, Elizabeth M., Okero, D.C., Muiruri, L., Owuondo, P.A. 19 October 2023 (has links)
Yes / Reliable health information is essential for decision making in the healthcare system. Information management in Kenya was considered the weakest area under the Health Information System pillar mainly due to inadequate health workers capacity. The study therefore aimed at assessing health workers skills and current training needs for information management in the selected healthcare facilities.
Cross-section research design was adopted and both purposive sampling technique and censuses were used to establish the study participants. Analysis was done using SPSS version 20 and results were presented in tables, charts and graphs.
It was established that capacity building was usually undertaken through on-job trainings i.e. 85.1% (103) health workers had on-job training on filling of data collection tools and only 10% (13) had received formal classroom training on the same. Further, only 9.1% (11) health workers had received information management training while 90.9% (110) had not received such training. Health workers demonstrated below average skills on information management i.e. only 17.4% (21) could check for data accuracy, only 16.5% (20) could compute trends from bar charts and only 16.5% (20) could transform the data they collected into meaningful information for use.
The researcher recommended that healthcare facilities management teams develop a competency based framework for defining the desired skill mix for information management and have a yearly Training Needs Assessment for assessing training needs for information management among the health workers.

Ontologiebasierte Indexierung und Kontextualisierung multimedialer Dokumente für das persönliche Wissensmanagement / Ontology-based Indexing and Contextualization of Multimedia Documents for Personal Information ManagementMitschick, Annett 07 April 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Personal multimedia document management benefits from Semantic Web technologies and the application of ontologies. However, an ontology-based document management system has to meet a number of challenges regarding flexibility, soundness, and controllability of the semantic data model. The first part of the dissertation proposes necessary mechanisms for the semi-automatic modeling and maintenance of semantic document descriptions. The second part introduces a component-based, application-independent architecture which forms the basis for the development of innovative, semantic-driven solutions for personal document and information management.

Information is something that in society is constantly expanding every day. Too much information can often lead to complex business conditions, especially when it comes to managing product information. The purpose of this study is to find out which challenges and opportunities businesses face when introducing a Product Information Management (PIM) system, a system that the literature say is required in an effort to master complex conditions that often arise in a comprehensive handling of product information. Through a qualitative data collection with an inductive approach, four interviews were conducted with individuals at a company that today has a relatively complex solution for managing product information. The investigation was based on two themes, challenges and opportunities, to find out the informants' views on the introduction of a PIM system in the business. The result showed a relatively united image among the informants on the challenges and opportunities that businesses face when introducing a PIM system. The theoretical areas of this study could then strengthen the result that emerged from empirics and demonstrate that challenges and opportunities were represented by a total of five factors. Challenges consisted of language and change while opportunities consisted of content, central source of information as well as traceability/navigation.

The term PWA is used to name a hybrid methodology (regular web and mobile apps) for software development, whose main functionality is to create hybrid apps that deliver an experience similar to native apps, without having to “download” the app and / or register in the software. The method used in this study was divided into two phases: initially an exploratory survey on programming and open source languages, in order to understand the possibilities and techniques of PWA; and later the actual construction of the prototype, which included: web research on the subject “augmented reality” to compose the application, rental of a server to publish the product; evaluation of the application via the qualitative Design-Research (DBR) method; applied to 5 professionals working in the media and technology field. The construction of the prototype was carried out, consistent with the proposed methodology, it met most of the usability and accessibility requirements, indicating easy access to information, which were grouped on the topic and made available via this app. Despite the positive aspects, it was detected, because it is still in the implementation phase, the weak interactivity and proactive participation of users and the difficulty of updating and incorporating other content in a collaborative manner, which is believed to occur as far as ... Användbarhet vid Produktberikning i PIM-SystemBorg, Loise, Fransson, Angelina January 2020 (has links)
E-commerce has grown rapidly in the last couple of years and has gotten more demanding customers that want better and more consistent product information. With more products on the market than ever, spreadsheets are not enough. Product Information Management (PIM) systems have been developed to meet those needs. Because these systems contain a lot of different processes and handles a lot of data, they can be complex and contain usability problems. The purpose of the study is to understand and explain the usability of the PIM system process of enriching products. The study answers the research questions: “How do the users experience the usability in the process of enriching products in PIM systems?” and “What are the main usability problems in the enrichment process in an existing PIM system?”. The result shows that the overall usability in the enrichment process is good and the investigated PIM system is easy to use and is flexible. The analysis shows that the main usability problems are the lack of functionality and efficiency. The two problems are connected to each other as the users need to do workarounds because the lack of certain functions. The efficiency would be improved if the missing functions were added. These usability attributes can be difficult to evaluate before the system has been used for a while because it can take time for the users to discover problem regarding them.

Relationships Among Uncertainty Avoidance, Individualism-Collectivism, and Usability of Personal Management Information as Perceived by German and Indonesian UsersFahmie, Arief 21 February 2014 (has links) (PDF)
