Analýza a výběr aplikační platformy pro podporu řízení IT společnosti / Analysis and selection of application platform in support of IT company managementKortus, Jakub January 2015 (has links)
This thesis looks into the selection process of a suitable internal application platform for the needs of specific IT company, which does business in the development and implementation area of SW products supporting a credit risk management. The company currently consists of 100 employees and plans to grow in the following years with 25% rate. This places significant requirements on efficient, but also cost optimal set of internal systems in order to support the process management. The theoretical part describes the process of selecting a general supplier and its specificity when used in a selection process for IT supplier and also the procedure for process analysis of key processes, which is vital part of methodological basis. In the practical part of the work is first made the analysis of key processes itself, on which are then proposed various applications that are integrated with each other and form a comprehensive and integrated platform to support monitoring, evaluation and management of the entire IT company. The main contribution is in a comprehensive application infrastructure proposal, which should replace the current and non compliant one.

Previous issue date: 2018-07-26 / With the growing need for an adequate structure of information technology by
organizations, regardless of their size, IT service management is increasingly
important, and should be effective and, above all, efficient in pursuit of cost reduction
combined with improvement the delivery of services. In this way, deploying models
and frameworks of best IT management practices is, today, an essential activity of
companies that seek excellence. Another equally important activity is assessing the
maturity of IT management processes. The ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) library is
designed for IT service managers to increase the effectiveness of their management
as well as the assertiveness of their decisions, by better managing their
environments. This research aims to contribute to the area of IT service
management, generating inputs for IT managers' decision making in the development
of a process-based organizational maturity model for ITIL v3. The proposed MA_ITIL
model is composed of three layers based on the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process)
method, in accordance with the international ISO / IEC 33004 process maturity
standard of 2015, which replaced ISO / IEC 15504- 4 of 2003, thus addressing new
definitions between organizational maturity of processes and capacity utilization. The
research was developed in five stages, which were: to review the literature, to
elaborate a maturity model, to elaborate a research survey based on the proposed
model, to apply the questionnaire to ITIL v3 specialists and finally to describe the
comments and conclusions about the study, so that IT service managers can have
mechanisms for managing and measuring the degree of maturity of their ITIL v3
processes, which will assist in the management of technological services.

Effects of IT Infrastructure services on business process implementation-Focus on small and medium enterprises in emerging marketsNerur Radhakrishnan, Ganapathy Subramaniam January 2011 (has links)
An organization’s information technology (IT) infrastructure capability is increasinglyrealized as a critical part to business effectiveness and efficiency. IT infrastructure servicesare particularly important for organizations looking to deploy business processes indeveloping markets. There has also been an interest from many small and medium sizedorganizations whose core business is not in IT to outsource and manage these servicesthrough third party service providers. However there is a need to create an understanding forthese organizations to deploy the right infrastructure services in order to enable easierimplementation or reengineering of the business process. There has been little researchfocusing on the patterns of the IT infrastructure capabilities in the small and medium sizedorganizations in the developing markets. The research aims for a comprehensive coverage by analyzing the requirements in thedeveloping markets and proposing a selection model for the organizations to choose ITservice provider in case they decide to outsource the infrastructure services. The effect of theIT infrastructure services on the business process implementation is presented with anemphasis on the boundary crossing services. Using empirical case study, the research analysesa firm in developing markets and compares it against four strategically similar organizationsfrom different industries. Data collection was primarily qualitative and ably supported bysecondary data. The requirements in developing markets reflect the same as in mature markets. The pricing isseen to play a major role in the selection of the service providers with service security notvery much organization’s priority. The number of boundary crossing services effectivelyenables information sharing and control. These services are the drivers in simplifying thebusiness process implementation. The findings have implications for both business andtechnical managers in regard to planning the IT strategy in the long term and developingappropriate infrastructure according to the process needs. / Program: Magisterutbildning i informatik

Adaptive IT Capability and its Impact on the Competitiveness of Firms: A Dynamic Capability PerspectivePaschke, Jörg-René, Joerg.Paschke@rmit.edu.au January 2009 (has links)
The link between information technology (IT) and competitive advantage has been the preoccupation of many IT researchers. IT plays a key role as a necessary, but not sufficient, source of value. Prior research has in most cases investigated the direct link between IT and competitive advantage. Other researchers have examined the effect of IT on mediating factors (such as firm strategy) or applied higher order IT support for core competences in their research constructs. Only a few have recognised the potential of IT in enabling dynamic capabilities. This thesis argues that the dynamic capability perspective of strategic management provides a better insight into how IT, beyond its traditional role, needs to be converted into a higher order resource to deliver competitive advantage. The objectives of the study are therefore: (1) to apply the concept of the dynamic capability perspective to the IT-competitive advantage research in order to explicate the strategic role of IT in attaining competitive advantage; and (2) to examine the antecedent capabilities and competences that may lead towards developing adaptive IT capability. This study proposes and empirically tests a dynamic capability-based model of IT and competitive advantage. The proposed model posits adaptive IT capability as a mediating higher order resource that relies on IT capabilities (infrastructure, personnel and management) and IT support for core competences (operational and market) to influence a firm's competitive position (competitive edge in market and financial performance). The model also hypothesises that IT support for core competences can lead to competitive advantages. To test the model, data were collected from a cross- sectional sample of 203 medium- and large-sized Australian organisations. Descriptive and analytical (structural equation modelling) tools were employed to test both the measurement and structural models. The findings reveal that the developed model explained 28% of the variance in competitive advantage, 72% for adaptive IT capability, 51% for IT support for operational and market competence, demonstrating the strategic role of adaptive IT capabilities as sources of competitive advantage. This indicates that those firms that deploy IT for creating operational and market competences require a further capacity to rebuild and reconfigure their resources to improve market and financial performance. Thus, it appears that the impact of IT support for core competences on competitive advantage is not direct, but indirect through adaptive IT capability. Several IT capabilities and competences were identified as antecedents for building adaptive IT capabilities. This PhD study's main contribution lies in bridging a research gap by developing and empirically testing a model of adaptive IT capability that measures how IT can enable firms' dynamic capabilities. The model includes both the antecedent factors that build the higher order resource of adaptive IT capability (upstream factors) as well as the effect on competitive advantage (downstream factors). Practitioners can benefit from the results of this study in terms of the ramifications for investment decisions as well as to benchmark where they stand with their IT in terms of potential for value creation and business support.

Information technology audits in South African higher education institutionsAngus, Lynne 11 September 2013 (has links)
The use of technology for competitive advantage has become a necessity, not only for corporate organisations, but for higher education institutions (HEIs) as well. Consequently, corporate organisations and HEIs alike must be equipped to protect against the pervasive nature of technology. To do this, they implement controls and undergo audits to ensure these controls are implemented correctly. Although HEIs are a different kind of entity to corporate organisations, HEI information technology (IT) audits are based on the same criteria as those for corporate organisations. The primary aim of this research, therefore, was to develop a set of IT control criteria that are relevant to be tested in IT audits for South African HEIs. The research method used was the Delphi technique. Data was collected, analysed, and used as feedback on which to progress to the next round of data collection. Two lists were obtained: a list of the top IT controls relevant to be tested at any organisation, and a list of the top IT controls relevant to be tested at a South African HEI. Comparison of the two lists shows that although there are some differences in the ranking of criteria used to audit corporate organisations as opposed to HEIs, the final two lists of criteria do not differ significantly. Therefore, it was shown that the same broad IT controls are required to be tested in an IT audit for a South African HEI. However, this research suggests that the risk weighting put on particular IT controls should possibly differ for HEIs, as HEIs face differing IT risks. If further studies can be established which cater for more specific controls, then the combined effect of this study and future ones will be a valuable contribution to knowledge for IT audits in a South African higher education context.
