It is known that, since the field K is infinite, if ∗ is an involution on M2(K), then the ideal of identities (M2(K), ∗) coincides with (M2(K), t) or with (M2(K), s). We also consider the algebras Mn(E), Mk,l(E) and M1,1(E) over fields of characteristic 0. For the algebras Mn(E) and Mk,l(E) we prove that for a large class of involutions the polynomial identities with involution coincide with the ordinary identities, and for the algebra M1,1(E) with the involution ∗ induced by the transposition superinvolution of the superalgebra M1,1(K) we exhibit nite basis for the ∗-polynomial identities.

Identidades em jogo: duplo mal-estar das professoras e das coordenadoras pedagógicas do Ensino Fundamental I na constante construção de seus papéis / Identities at stake: double ill-feeling of Primary School teachers and pedagogic coordinators in the construction of their roles

O objetivo do presente estudo, de cunho teórico-analítico, configura-se como uma tentativa de compreensão da forma pela qual se estabeleceram, no Brasil, as identidades profissionais das professoras de primeiras letras e das coordenadoras pedagógicas, mutuamente referidas, e o mal-estar decorrente das modalidades pelas quais se instituíram, com as reformas educacionais, suas competências desejáveis mediante diferentes descrições das respectivas funções. Na busca de entender teoricamente como se produzem essas identidades nas estruturas hierárquicas das instituições escolares, os aportes teóricos de Foucault forneceram ferramentas úteis para problematizar os saberes vigentes e compreender como certos saberes são desqualificados nas relações de poder. A compreensão de Foucault acerca da relação entre saber e poder, principalmente, possibilita outras leituras dos discursos pedagógicos, acumulados e veiculados como verdades, que permeiam a construção das identidades dessas profissionais. A análise sociológica de Bauman, por sua vez, ajuda a elucidar o presente em que estamos imersos, que ele chama de modernidade \"leve\" e \"líquida\" e, assim, torna possível entender as redistribuições e realocações dos poderes e os novos padrões de dependência na instituição escolar, apesar de o discurso pedagógico dominante aparentemente convocar \"autodeterminação\" e \"liberdade\" como características centrais da constituição dessas identidades em estudo. A presente investigação busca, dessa forma, primeiramente elucidar no Brasil o percurso histórico da profissão de professora das primeiras letras e assim compreender como se configuraram as estruturas hierárquicas, isto é, a \"função supervisora\" nas reformas educacionais das décadas de 20 e 30, caracterizada pela inspiração empresarial na administração escolar e pela instituição da figura do especialista em novos métodos de ensino. É realizada a seguir a análise de quatro volumes da coleção O Coordenador pedagógico, organizada por Vera Nigro de Souza Placco e Laurinda Ramalho de Almeida, publicada a partir de 1998, escolhida pelo elevado número de edições, o que demonstra sua aprovação pelo público. A coleção possibilita o acesso a alguns dos principais discursos que norteiam a constituição da identidade desses profissionais. Os artigos aí presentes são resultados, na sua maioria, de dissertações de teses e de pesquisas de avaliação de projetos implementados na rede pública ou particular. Como conclusão, observa-se que os discursos educacionais em geral enfatizam a constituição de profissionais \"autônomos\", \"críticos\" e \"reflexivos\". Imersos nesse discurso homogeneizante e sofisticado nas suas propostas de auto-exame, no entanto, tanto professores como coordenadores paradoxalmente vão limitando as possibilidades de pensar e de constituir suas identidades. Uma possível ação questionadora seria a de duvidar desse lugar idealizado nas descrições da função dos coordenadores pedagógicos, que definem missões impossíveis, lugar em que, na maioria das vezes, são vistos como detentores de uma consciência crítica embasada nos conhecimentos da ciência, e capazes de constituir professores \"autônomos\" e \"reflexivos\". Duvidar, assim, dessa relação, quando ela se estabelece pela necessidade da tutela desse especialista, a fim de buscar outras formas de relação que permitam de fato que as professoras das primeiras letras possam se desenvolver enquanto profissionais. / This study aims at attempting to comprehend the way the professional identities of primary school teachers and pedagogic coordinators has been established in Brazil and the subsequent ill-feeling originated by the educational restructuring of their competencies in the light of their new roles. The search for the understanding of how these identities are constructed in the hierarchical structure of schools can be backed up by Foucault-based theories that provide useful tools for analyzing the present kinds of knowledge, at the same time that it helps understand how they can be disqualified before unequal encounters. Foucault\'s understanding of the relationship between power and knowledge makes it possible to envisage different interpretations of the pedagogical discourse which has been established and passed on as truths that permeate the make-up of the identity of a teaching professional. Bauman\'s sociological approach, in turn, helps to elucidate the present scenario where we are, which he named \"light\" and \"liquid\" modernity. Such suggested approach makes it possible to understand the redistributions and allocations of the powers and the new patterns of dependence at the educational institution, despite the fact that the dominant pedagogical discourse seems to capitalize on \"self-determination\" and \"freedom\" as central characteristics in the construction of the identities under investigation. Thus, the present study seeks to elucidate, from a historical perspective, the path of the primary school teacher as a means to shed some light on how the hierarchical relations came to be, namely that of the \"supervisor\" in the educational restructuring of the 20\'s and 30?\'s. The referred restructuring seems to have been highly influenced by the entrepreneurial spirit present in school administration trends and by the institution of a specialist in the new teaching methods. Four volumes of the series O Coordenador Pedagógico (the Pedagogic Coordinatior) published as of 1998 and organized by Vera Nigro de Souza Placco and Laurinda Ramalho de Almeida are chosen and analyzed due to the significant number of editions, which seems to be indicative of its approval by the target audience. This collection makes it possible to have access to some of the main discourse samples that guide the identity construction of the professionals of the area. Most of the articles therein result from theses, dissertations and research on the evaluation of projects implemented in private and public educational institutions. As a conclusion, it is possible to observe that the educational discourse, in general, emphasizes the construction of \"autonomous\", \"critical\" and \"reflexive\" professionals. Given the homogenous and sophisticated nature of such discourse, filled with self-analysis proposals, both teachers and coordinators limit their possibilities of thinking and constructing their identities. One possible approach to this paradox would be to dispute the idealization of the role of the pedagogical coordinator that defines impossible missions and appears to be the bearer of a critical conscience that, based on scientific background, is capable of educating teachers to be \"autonomous\" and \"reflexive\". This way, disputing this relation may bring in new possibilities of relationships and approaches to allow the primary school teachers to develop as professionals.

Parler des médias sous l’angle des identités culturelles dans un contexte mondialisé, c’est pour démontrer qu’au delà de transmettre des informations de toutes natures (information-nouvelles, informations-connaissances, loisirs, et publicité), les médias sont aussi des véhicules de culture. Dans cet environnement globalisé, les contenus publics produits et diffusés par les entreprises de médias n’assurent ils pas une tendance à l’uniformisation des cultures vers les cultures économiques les plus puissantes ? Notre travail a consisté à observer et à analyser cette relation interdépendante existant entre les cultures, les médias et la mondialisation, dans des cas de pays choisis en Afrique subsaharienne, afin de savoir comment les médias et la globalisation, peuvent être des agents de la mondialisation des cultures, ou si des éléments de résistances et de défenses des identités culturelles se manifestent. Les médias ont sans doute été pleinement des vecteurs de l’occidentalisation à leur arrivée en Afrique subsaharienne. De nos jours, prédomine toujours l’emploi des langues des colonisateurs dans les médias écrits. Cependant, au sein des médias parlés, les langues africaines sont beaucoup plus utilisées.Concernant, les contenus, nous avons pu observer que beaucoup d’entreprises de médias occidentales s’implantent en Afrique subsaharienne en introduisant des contenus occidentaux qui ont une influence culturelle significative sur les récepteurs africains. Ces dernières, introduisent plus de contenus africains dans leur programme afin d’élargir l’audience, dans un contexte de plus en plus concurrentiel.L'Afrique suscite, un regain d'intérêt, nous l'espérons prometteur. / To speak media under the angle of the cultural identities in a globalized context, it is to demonstrate that to pass on(to transmit) information of all kinds (information-news, information-knowledge, leisure activities, and advertising(publicity)), the media are also vehicles of culture. In this globalized environment, do not the public contents produced and spread(broadcasted) by the companies of media assure(do not insure) no trend(tendency) the standardization of the cultures towards the most powerful economic cultures?Our work consisted in observing and in analyzing this interdependent relation existing between the cultures, the media and the globalization, in cases of countries chosen in sub-Saharan Africa, to know how the media and the globalization, can be agents of the globalization of the cultures, or if elements of resistances and defenses of the cultural identities show themselves. The media were doubtless completely vectors of the westernization upon their arrival in sub-Saharan Africa. Nowadays, always prevails the employment(use) of the languages(tongues) of the colonizers in the written media.However, within the spoken media, the African languages are much more used.Concerning, the contents, we were able to observe that many western companies of media become established in sub-Saharan Africa by introducing western contents which have a significant cultural influence on the African receivers. The latter, introduce more African contents into their program to widen the audience, in a more and more competitive context. Africa arouses, a renewed interest, we hope for it promising.

Narratively performed role identities of visible ethnic minority, native English speaking teachers in TESOL

The binary distinction of “native speaker” and “non-native speaker” (NS/NNS) remains the primary way in which professionals are categorised in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). This distinction is problematic because it is used to place greater value on native English speaking teachers (NEST) over non-native English speaking teachers (NNESTs). This distinction is argued to be largely based on linguistic features (Medgyes 1992; Cook 1999). However the aspect of race remains to be adequately discussed (Kubota and Lin 2006).This thesis has its origins in my personal experiences with racism because, as a Canadian- Filipino, my employer and my students did not accept me as a “real” NEST because I am “non-white”. In my initial research, during my MA TESOL, into the professional experiences of racism I coined the acronym “VEM-NEST”: visible ethnic minority, native English speaking teacher. I used this term to describe the particular group of teachers, to which I belong, who do not easily fit into the available categories of NS/NNS, and consequently NEST/NNEST.My thesis reported on the experiences of nine VEM-NESTs and how they performed specific identities during specific events. Their experiences were presented as individual restoried narratives which were developed from the combination of the participants’ written stories and one-to-one interviews. The restoried narratives were analysed using an analytical lens based on Labov and Waletzky’s (1967) structural approach. The findings suggest that VEM-NESTs need to meet a certain amount of “native speaker” norms in order to be given the opportunity to perform their VEM-NEST role identities in specific situations. This has particular implications for how the NS/NNS binary distinction needs a more nuanced understanding as a way of addressing the inequalities embedded in the way TESOL professionals are valued.

Wally Olins (2008:6), points out that in contemporary culture “brands and branding are all-pervasive and ubiquitous”. As he says, one need only walk down the high street of any major foreign city in the world, be it San Francisco or Shanghai, to be embraced by so many familiar brands, including Coca-Cola, KFC, Apple MAC, Chanel and Toyota, that one could mistake it for home. In the last 15 years particularly, the ubiquitous influence of brands and branding has seen the field outgrow its commercial role and expand into more secular and political spheres. Thus, the focus of this study is the role and influence of brands and branding on modern nations and their reputations via intentionally constructed national identities, with specific reference to South Africa. According to the main objectives of this study, focus was placed on the critical examination of South Africa’s nation brand, It’s Possible, in the light of the theoretical ideals for an intentional constructed national identity as proposed by Bartholmé and Melewar, Anholt and Olins. The examination centred on the analysis and interpretation of the individual communiqués that constituted the South African pavilion at the world Expo 2010, as their content is the result of the implementation of the nation’s visual brand language. Managing and adapting organizational identity : A qualitative case study using a strategy-as-practice perspective to investigate an IT consultant organization

Evolution of IT has resulted in fundamental changes in society, changes that have affected the IT consultant industry and introduced challenges in how IT consultant organizations should adapt to a new, turbulent market. In order to investigate these challenges this study set out to understand the organizational identity of IT consultant organizations, aiming to address the following research question: How do IT consultant organizations manage and adapt their organizational identity? To answer this question a qualitative single case study has been conducted using Whittington’s integrated framework for strategy-as-practice as a theoretical framework. The results show that the case organization of this study manages and adapts their organizational identity by adjusting its work procedures to the new market as well as their role in the relationship with customers. The results also indicate that the case organization manages and adapts their organizational identity by balancing the identity established by headquarter and the identity set by themselves in regard to their local context. These results demonstrate the possibilities of multiple organizational identities within an organization.

Kazakh and Russian identities in transition : the case of Kazakhstan

This dissertation concerns the development and interaction of Kazakh and Russian identities in post-Soviet Kazakhstan. My research questions were: (1) what was the character of these identities in 2003/04 (the time of my research); (2) how have these identities interacted to form dominant and subordinate identities, and (3) how can the character of these identities and their interaction be explained? In order to research these questions I used a general questionnaire followed up by open ended interviews of a representative sample of Kazakhstani citizens. While my research findings show continued uncertainty and provisionality in both Kazakh and Russian identities, which confirms the broad trend of previous surveys, they also indicate signs of change in the emergence of more consolidated dominant and subordinate identities in the less Russianised areas like Chimkent and among the younger generation, while by contrast the older generations of Russians, particularly in the more Russianised areas, find it difficult to accept the delegitimation of their dominant status as reflected in the nationalizing policies pursued by the new state. In theoretical terms these findings confirm the importance of the study of ethnic stratification, which has not received sufficient attention in previous research in this area. In explaining these developments I found that the character of the transition and also of the ‘prior regime type’ in Kazakhstan has had a significant effect on ethnic relationships, but also that international factors, such as those presented in Brubaker’s triadic model, and internal factors, elaborated by Schermerhorn and Horowitz, were also important.

Do the commercials influence the consumptionbehaviour? Do the commercials influence the lifestyle? Do the influences of the commercial construct the individual lifestyle? In which extent is it social related?</p><p>Material/Method: Together with literature studies, a qualitative method has been used with 5 interviews with young adults in the age of 19-25 in Uppsala. I have compared these five interviews with earlier results and research.</p><p>Main Results: I have found out that these young adults don’t want to admit being influenced by commercials even if they know they are. These young adults have also formed consumptionbehaviour after the commercials, which they show in for example their way of shopping and their way of acting afterwards. The lifestyle is social related, but today we have a lot more choices to make. This paper investigates how students in the humanities in four universities in Sweden reflect on their education and the current view on the humanities as an education and a science. I want to investigate what impact the past few years public debate about the humanities have had on the students. What kind of beliefs and identities do the students of the humanities form and how do they discuss the universities, the choices they made in life and how do they feel about the future. This study is based on interviews with seventeen students in Sweden from four different universities. The research is also based upon a report that The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (Svenskt Näringsliv) published in 2011 and the debate following that report. I have also made participant observations on the four universities to make a broader description for the reader. The paper mainly uses post-structuralistic theory (Foucault and Althusser) to analyze the informants lifes and thoughts about their education and future.    This research highlights the complexity involved when students  make choices for the future. Idealized views of education and what is important in life exists and creates gaps between what the person want and what is perceived are normative. There is a perceived hierarchy among universities, students and educations. Students of the humanities often feel that their position in this hierarchy is weaker than the idealised student and that makes the interpellation of the subjects harder but not less important.
