Predator-prey interactions between cod (Gadus morhua) and perch (Perca fluvitatilis) and three crustaceans (Idotea baltica, Gammarus oceanicus and Palaemon adspersus) in the Baltic Fucus communities

Olovsson, Richard January 2000 (has links)
<p>Three different laboratory studies have been carried out in order to elucidate the interactions between two predators and their prey in the Fucus vesiculosus community. The first study investigated the behavioural response of Gammarus oceanicus, Idotea baltica and Palaemon adspersus in the chemicai presence of their predators Gadus morhua and Perca fluviatilis. A lowering of night activity among the crustaceans was expected. The second study was carried out in 1 m3 mesocosm-tanks were the predators had the opportunity to actively prey on both I. baltica and G. oceanicus among live F. vesiculosus plants. This experiment lasted före one week and the decrease of the crustaceans during this period was noted as result. In the third study was the predators ability to forage in complete darkness investigated. This was carried out in the same mesocosm tanks but without Fucus and for 5 hours. None of the crustacean species decreased their night activity as response to the smell of the predators. This may indicate that chemically mediateda signals are of less importance in the Fucus community due to high turbulence and swift waterexchange in this splashzone habitat.  Cod consumer more of both G. oceanicus and  I. baltica than perch in the two different foraging-studies. In these conditions the cod was the most efficient predator. The decreased stocks of cod was the most efficient predator. The decreased socks of cod in the Baltic Sea may have reduced the top-down control in the foodweb of the fucus community.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

Catalán-Morseby, Elizabeth January 2011 (has links)

Myrén, Martina January 2009 (has links)
This essay considers the new prison in Kalmar, which was built 1852 and replaced the former prison in the castle of Kalmar. In the forts the conditions were awful and the interms lived together in large rooms. With the new reform that took place in Sweden, with the so-called Philadelphiasystem, the concept was to isolate the prisoner one by one in smaller rooms. The idea was to give them a religious ground so they could get themselves a self-reflection and a conscience. It was a new system for the personnel to control the internals and the order in prison.

Jakobsson, Magnus, Eliasson, Dan January 2014 (has links)
The aim with this study is to investigate how Swedish public service local radio uses information subsides in the form of press releases. In terms of which entrants gain entrance to the news feed, in which forms and in which subjects. Also we wanted to study how the journalist uses the content in the press releases. To do this we cooperated with the public service radio channel Sveriges radio P4 Kalmar. For 28 days, four weeks, we collected all incoming press releases to the newsroom of P4 Kalmar. All in all we got 1046 press releases sorted in four weekly periods. Out of each one of those periods we randomly selected 75 press releases to get our sample of units. We did a quantitative analysis by finding keywords in the units and then searched in the news rooms own editorial database and their news web. The result show that P4 Kalmar uses 7,3 percent of the press realeases that they are subsidised with. The press releases that becomes news are rarely changed in terms of for example angle.

Engström, Linn January 2015 (has links)
The world has become a globalized place in constant development and much of which is now taken for granted did not even exist 30-40 years ago, such as smartphones or Internet in common households. As new tourist destinations is continuously being created, it becomes increasingly important with effective place marketing to compete in the global market. Developing a good and interesting profile is thus a way for places to become more attractive for tourists. The main theory in the paper is "post-industrialization and the entrepreneurial city" which describes how cities in the global north have moved away from industry towards becoming post-industrial cities – very often with a strong focus on tourism. A review of previous research in tourism, marketing, profiling, image and branding of places have been made, whereupon a knowledge gap has been identified regarding studies concerning comparison of how the structure of places and arguably also the profiling of places has changed over time. The aim of this paper is therefore to examine how the Swedish city of Kalmar's profiling and geographical space has changed from 1972-82 compared to 2010-14. In order to do so, interviews have been conducted and written material have been analysed. The result demonstrates inter alia that Kalmar, like many other post-industrial cities, has gone from being an industrial city to a place of tourism.

Karlsson, Lovisa January 2014 (has links)

Mihajlovska, Ivona, Stojkovic, Igor January 2014 (has links)

What will you be when you grow up? : A study in life and career in 19th century Kalmar and Karlskrona

Eriksson, Michaela January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to study children born in February 1800 in the two coastal cities Kalmar and Karlskrona in order to see what career choices they make during their lifetime. With career choices, both own careers and spouses careers will be taken into consideration. The question is whether children grow up to stay in the same trade of work and social construction as their parents. The careers found will also be studied in a didactic point of view where those jobs are compared to lines of work presented in the textbooks.   The result of this study is that it was common for the boys to “inherit” their fathers’ line of work as well as for the daughters to marry men in the same line of work as their fathers. The study has also shown that a lot of children died during their first years of life, resulting in a smaller group of children to study than anticipated. The didactic study resulted in the knowledge that the textbooks lack a deeper exploration of fields of work, something that could result in pupils not understanding the “ordinary people” in history.
