The objective of this study was to test the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of KIDSCREEN-27 measurement instrument of quality of life of children and teenagers. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used for the calculation of validity of criteria. Due to the fact that the data shower a non-normal distribution, and the correlations were significant in all the dimensions (p<0,001). This way, we infer that the KIDSCREEN-27 instrument presented satisfactory quality. The internal consistency was calculated using the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and out of the seven analyzed items, five of them achieved values above 0.7. It follows that the Brazilian version of the KIDSCREEN-27 instrument is capable to gather high-quality information, similar to the ones from the versions concerning quality of life of children and teenagers. What pertains the concurring validity, using the AUQEI instrument as “gold standard”, significative correlations were obtained regarding Spearman’s correlation coefficient. This way, it appears that the KIDSCREEN-27 instrument presents satisfactory concurrent validity regarding the AUQEI instrument. In terms of the test-retest reliability, the Spearman’s correlation calculation was again employed. There were no significative differences concerning the average of the dimensions in terms of the test and retest, hence leading to a satisfactory stability of the aforementioned instrument. Pertaining the discriminant validity, a significant difference could be found in the comparison of children from regular schools and children who grew up in orphanages, especially in the dimensions Physical Well-being, Autonomy and Parents, and School Environment. As for the Split-Half calculation, the correlation was satisfactory, with a value of 0.727, which reinforces even more the reliability of the KIDSCREEN-27 instrument. We concluded that the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of KIDSCREEN-27 instrument presented, in general, satisfactory conditions, thus creating another possibility of investigation for researches and professionals to assess the quality of life of Brazilian children and teenagers.

: En tvärsnittsstudie på elever i årskurs 7 (13–14 år) / Is there an association between health- related quality of life and promotion of physical activity in school? : - A cross sectional study of pupils in seventh grade (13–14 years old)

Hermansson, Markus, Norling, Leo January 2022 (has links)
Data samlades in genom projektet Hjärnhälsa i skolan under 2019. / Aim The purpose of this study was to examine associations between activities to promote school- based physical activity and health-related quality of life among pupils in the seventh grade. MethodThis study had a quantitative methodology and a cross sectional design. The sample was 1139 adolescents in seventh grade (age 13–14) and adult representatives in 34 schools in Stockholm area. Data was collected through the project Hjärnhälsa i skolan (Brain health in school) in 2019. The adolescents answered a survey that included a standardized questionnaire to measure health-related quality of life (Kidscreen-10 Index). Data about school promotion of physical activity (duration of physical education, a general school health policy, organized physical activity during recess, physical activity during lessons and a mobile phone ban) were collected by letting school representatives answer a questionnaire and through school schedules. Associations between the continuous variables were analyzed with Pearson’s correlation. Associations between the categorical variables were analyzed with Spearman’s correlation. Differences between the continuous variables were analyzed with t- test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Differences between the categorical variables was analyzed with a Chi-square test. Result The results showed that there was no significant association for any of the activities to promote school based physical activity and health-related quality of life. The results also showed that there was no difference in health-related quality of life amongst pupils that attended schools that promoted physical activity compared to schools that did not. Conclusion This study showed that there were no significant associations between activities to promote physical activity in schools and health-related quality of life. Due to scarce research, it is uncertain what role promotion of physical activity has for health-related quality of life for adolescents, especially in Swedish schools. To conclude this, more research is needed.

Taliep, Naiema January 2010 (has links)

This study is located within the theoretical framework of construct validation theory. Data for this Secondary Data Analysis study was drawn from the &ldquo / Impact of Hope and Exposure to Community Violence on children&rsquo / s perception of Well-being&rdquo / study. The primary study employed stratified interval criterion sampling to select 565 grade 9 learners, aged 14-18 from six public schools. The dataset for the current study comprised all participants (N=565) of the broader study. As the initial step in validation of the KIDSCREEN-52 within South Africa, the current study examined the factor structure of the KIDSCREEN-52 within this context by means of exploratory factor analysis using principal component analysis with oblimin rotations. It also assessed the internal consistency reliability of each of the scales using Cronbach&rsquo / s alpha. Exploratory factor analysis revealed the same 10 factors as identified by previous European studies with some deviation in the last two factors, which warrants further examination. Internal consistency of the measure was shown to be acceptable, with Cronbach&rsquo / s alpha values ranging from 0.76 to 0.81 for the 10 scales.

Evaluating the Construct Validity of the KIDSCREEN-52 Quality of Life questionnaire within a South African context utilizing Exploratory Factor Analysis: Initial validation

Taliep, Naiema January 2010 (has links)
Magister Artium (Psychology) - MA(Psych) / The absence of a suitable measure to assess the health related quality of life (HRQoL) of children and adolescents in South Africa, led to the use of the KIDSCREEN-52 questionnaire in this study. This questionnaire was developed and standardised in Europe and it assesses quality of life from the subjective perception of children and adolescents in terms of their physical, mental and social well-being. The use of assessment measures with different populations or in different milieu from the original standardisation context necessitates establishing the validity of such measures for the new utilization context. Thus, the aim of this quantitative study is specifically directed at examining the construct validity of the KIDSCREEN-52 within a South African context. Accordingly, this study is located within the theoretical framework of construct validation theory. Data for this Secondary Data Analysis study was drawn from the “Impact of Hope and Exposure to Community Violence on children’s perception of Well-being” study.
