The influence of globalization is strengthening in all markets including the insurance market. In the past few years, new trends are bringing out various changes. People are becoming aware of the risks associated by not being covered by insurance and the exposure of financial loss that they could face. Due to this awareness, there are more questions that need to be raised by the insurer. Are the clients being provided enough coverage? What types of criteria should be set? All these questions are being asked by the insurance provider in order to alleviate any problems/loss and identify all the risks up front in order to prepare for these possible scenarios. Most people in the Czech Republic are becoming more aware of the bad current situation of the social system. Therefore, more people are coming to private financial insurance consultants. Life insurance have experienced many changes the past 10 years in which it is now able to offer the same complex coverage as in rich western countries. Clients are now looking for variety and flexibility. The question is how to set up these products correctly? I have been involved in professional insurance for the past several years and have developed methodical guidelines using both my knowledge and experience aimed at helping these clients be covered for these unforeseen circumstances and protect their finances.

One of the major issue for life insurance companies is proper and consistent valuation of liabilities. This thesis introduces the standard estimation methods used in practice and discussed the alternative methods, which might help to speed up these calculations. It studies two possible methods of acceleration of calcu- lations in life insurance: analytic function and cluster analysis. The outcome of these work is comparison of discussed methods applied on generated life insur- ance portfolio. All methods were applied on two possible insurance products. Comparison of the results is based on the calculation precision and time needed to process the liabilities of the insurance company's portfolio. 1

A company issuing an insurance will provide, in return for a monetary premium, acceptance of the liability to make certain payments to the insured person or company if some beforehand specified event occurs. There will always be a delay between occurrence of this event and actual payment from the insurance company. It is therefore necessary for the company to put aside money for this liability. This money is called the reserve. When a claim is reported, a claim handler will make an estimate of how much the company will have to pay to the claimant. This amount is booked as a liability. This type of reserve is called; "case reserve". When making the estimate, the claim handler has the option of giving the claim a standard reserve or a manual reserve. A standard reserve is a statistically calculated amount based on historical claim costs. This type of reserve is more often used in small claims. A manual reserve is a reserve subjectively decided by the claim handler. This type of reserve is more often used in large claims. This thesis propose a theory to model and calculate an optimal limit above which a claim should be considered large. An application of the method is also applied to some different types of claims.

This thesis investigates the impact of Solvency II on the asset side of Swedish mutual life insurers. With the help of a quantitative analysis and a qualitative examination of our results we find that there will be a significant change in demand for certain products. A substantial increase in demand for government bonds and interest rate swaps with long maturities should be expected. Furthermore, both corporate and covered bonds will be more attractive investments under the new regulatory framework. Another big impact is the lower risk-adjusted return for equity, which over time will lead to a reduction in Swedish life insurers’ relatively high exposure to equity and equity based products. Furthermore, we conclude that there are large gains to be made by incorporating an optimization with regard to the solvency capital requirements dictated by the legislative texts. / Denna uppsats har undersökt vilken inverkan Solvens II kommer ha på svenska ömsesidiga livbolags tillgångssidor. Med hjälp av en kvantitativ analys och en kvalitativ undersökning av våra resultat har vi funnit att det kommer ske en betydande förändring i efterfrågan av vissa instrument. En stor ökning på efterfrågan av statsobligationer och ränteswappar med långa löptider är att vänta. Dessutom kommer både företags- och säkerställda obligationer vara betydligt mer attraktiva investeringsalternativ under det nya regelverket. En annan stor inverkan är den lägre riskjusterade avkastningen för aktier och aktierelaterade produkter. Över tid kommer detta sannolikt leda till en reduktion av svenska livbolags relativt höga exponering har gentemot aktier. Därutöver finner vi att bolagen har mycket att vinna på att införliva en optimering med avseende på de av regelverket angivna kapitalkraven.

The Role of Height and Weight in the Performance of Salesmen of Ordinary Life InsuranceMurrey, Joe H. 12 1900 (has links)
Despite the obvious importance attached to the psychological significance of height and weight in everyday life, few researchers have studied the relationship of these variables to the sales performance of ordinary life insurance salesmen. In the present study, it was hypothesized that (1) taller and/or heavier ordinary life insurance salesmen are more successful than shorter and/or lighter ordinary life insurance salesmen; (2) those who possess more "ideal statures" are more successful than those who do not; and, secondarily, (3) life insurance companies tend to hire taller and/or heavier applicants for life insurance sales positions. The results of this study offer further support for the view that many sales managers and recruiters tend to believe that "the bigger they are, the better," and to select applicants accordingly, with the qualification that in this sample, female agents were taller, but lighter than average. These findings are discussed in terms of their implications for the life insurance industry and future investigations.

為保險業跨業經營預先佈局、增加保單持有人之投資選擇權及因應市場利率之低糜,我國擬於近日推出投資型保險,然而投資型保險基於其特有之性質,其監理自應與一般傳統型保險有所不同。本文先就投資型保險作一定義,並論述其性質及特色,次敘述其歷史發展沿革,再予以介紹其主要之種類。而關於投資型保險監理部分,一般來說,保險監理可分為財務監理及業務監理二部分,本文即依循此二面向分別作一探討。就財務監理部分而言,分就分離帳戶之規範、資金運用規範、責任準備金提存之規範、解約金之規範及稅賦規範五個議題作分析探討,再行提出建議。另一方面,就業務監理部分而言,則分就經營資格規範、資訊揭露規範、商品規範及銷售規範四個議題作分析探討,再行提出建議;最後總結全文以提出結論並針對我國投資型保險之監理提出建議。 / For facilitating of cross-business operation of the insurance industry, increasing policyholders’ choices in financial services, and shifting attach of interest risk, investment linked insurance products will introduced into the Taiwan insurance market soon. Based on it’s special features, the regulation of investment linked insurance should be different from the regulation of traditional life insurance. This paper defines the scope of investment linked insurance and discourses it’s nature and special features in the first place, and then describes it’s historical evolution and main types. In terms of insurance regulation, it is generally divided into two broad categories: i.e. financial regulation and market conduct regulation. This paper studies on the issues of regulation of investment linked insurance in such an approach. With regard to financial regulation of investment linked insurance, five aspects of regulation of investment linked insurance are examined: separate accounts, investments, liability reserves, surrender cash value and tax. With regard to market conduct regulation, this paper includes four aspects: operational qualification, information discourse, products and marketing. Finally the author submits his conclusion and recommendations to the regulatory authority to enhance the framework of regulation of investment linked insurance in Taiwan.

As a medium-sized life insurance company Assupol Life provide life insurance products to clients within government departments, although the company entered the broader private market. The enactment of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002 and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001 impacted financial service providers and the research analysed the influence of regulation on managerial decision making, marketing and sales, finance, human resources, training and the structures within the organisation to comply with the legislation.
The study endeavoured to determine the influence of regulation on the company and the measures implemented by the management of Assupol Life. The research results confirmed that the primary challenge faced by the company is to find a balance between compliance, managing human capital and creating value for shareholders. The major impact of the legislation involves the human resource- and training functions and the study illustrated that other influences was less severe. / Business Administration / M. Tech. 超額賠款再保險之使用與產物保險的經營關聯密切,其最重要關鍵在於風險自行承擔,因此其間的保費收入、再保費成本支出等有關費率釐定計算方式,可說是超額賠款再保險之精華所在,亦為保險相關從業人員必備之專業知識。由於超額賠款再保險運用到許多統計相關的計算說明,本文之論述期能幫助保險相關從業人員找到各方的均衡點,有助於保險事業將資源做最有效率、效能的經營。
本文針對財產保險運用超額賠款再保險經營實務之考量加以介紹,同時強調經營者必須提升專業,包括損防服務、專業化核保、作業流程電腦化、財務風險管理等,尤其在計算天災的累積和購買適當再保險的承保容量方面,這亦有助於保險公司對天災風險的評估與認識。
最後,本文籲請保險公司主管必須重視目前以超額賠款再保險風險自留方式所承保之業務其費率是否適當,尤其是天災風險,所謂多算勝,少算不勝,而況於無算乎?否則會和賭場的賭客一樣, 大部分人是輸光退場的。 / Excess of Loss Reinsurance has become the viable solution in Taiwan’s insurance community, since the constraints were imposed by reinsrers a few years ago that natural catastrophe exposures could not be fully transferred to proportional treaties. But, the insurers also take very large natural risks at the same time.
The aforementioned is the key issue to be discussed at the first part of this text, which introduces the concept of “corporate risk management” that Risk Management Department in enterprise is playing a role very similar to Reinsurance Department in an insurance company. We can, from this perspective, easier and clearer identify the functions and business objectives of Reinsurance Department in an insurance company.
One distinctive advantage over proportional reinsurance is that, by adopting XOL reinsurance, ceding companies can expect to retain more premiums. Virtually, the performance of XOL operations is directly linked to the level of reinsurance cost, so it is very vital for insurance people to be fully aware of the connections between their insured exposures and reinsurance prices. A number of charts, tables, and cases are illustrated in the text for the calculation of XOL prices, and readers, particularly those who are doing insurance business, of this text are able to fairly locate the equilibrium of reinsurance cost that can be mutually accepted by the insured、brokers、reinsurers and insurers.
Actual practices of applying property XOL reinsurance are analyzed in the text, which has also highlighted the importance of upgrading insurers’ professionalism, including loss prevention, underwriting, work-flow computerization, financial risk management, in particular, aggregate control on natural perils and adequate reinsurance protection.
My conclusions and recommendations are pinpointing the issues required to be dealt with by the authorities for the adequacy of direct premium rates, particularly for the business with natural perils that are retained under XOL programs. Insurers are destined to be out of the market, sooner or later, if they are unable to charge sufficient premiums to finance their losses in the long run.
