Current use of smart lighting in the home environment

Kjellberg, Viktor, Högkvist, Albin January 2020 (has links)
Smart lighting has in more recent times developed into a broader market, where it has moved into people’s homes, as opposed to in the beginning when it was used more at office environments due to its benefits of high potential energy savings (Santamouris & Dascalaki, 2002). Today Smart LightingSystem (SLS) provides the opportunity for private home lighting fixtures and sensors to be connected wirelessly and connect with other internet of things (IoT) products to perform required tasks. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate if how Swedish residents use SLS at home. To answer this, we first needed to do an inventory of the homes currently using Smart lighting and if why it is being used. As a method for data collection of the study, a web-based survey including a mixed-question questionnaire was used with Single choice, Multiple-choice questions and a 7-Point Likert Scale. It consisted of 20 questions and got 114 respondents to answer about their usage of SLS. Out of these114, 39 participants were users of SLS. The raw data generated by the survey were analysed and visualized using descriptive statistics with tools like Pivotable and Pivot charts in Microsoft Excel. In general, Functionality is the most important aspect when investing in SLS across all age-groups and gender. Turn On/ Off and Dimming is the most common way of controlling the lights and the Smartphone for interaction in the home environment.

Řízení manipulátoru pro snímání sítnice oka / Manipulator Control for Acquisition of the Eye Retina

Malaník, Petr January 2020 (has links)
To use the image of the retina for biometric or medical purposes, it is necessary that the image is of the highest quality and ideally covers the largest possible area. It is therefore necessary to move the sensing device to the most suitable position while ensuring its stability. A laboratory handling platform is used for this purpose. The platform is moved by stepper motors. A control board equipped with a microcontroller has been developed for their control, which allows very fine movements. The theoretical accuracy of the manipulator is up to 20 nm. Since it is necessary for sensing, to have proper retina illumination, the control system also includes adjustable illumination elements in the infrared and visible spectrum. The resulting system allows scanning of the retina of the eye from multiple angles and thereby effectively increase the area on which it is possible to further look for diseases or biometric features.

How the emotional experience of outdoor lighting affects path selection : How vertical, horizontal and objective lighting affects path selection in built outdoor environment.

Johansson, Anna, Kensing Kindh, Sophia January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to find out how to illuminate our built outdoor environment, by finding out which light distribution principle of vertical, horizontal or visual objective lighting is the most effective for guiding people. To fulfill the purpose of the study, a full-scale experiment was conducted in a real outdoor environment where the three light distribution principles were set against each other in three scenarios. The 29 participants evaluated their emotional experiences through The Discrete Emotions Questionnaire (DEQ) followed by choice of paths and semi-structured interviews. The different data collection methods allowed us to investigate the light distribution principles in relation to each other through triangulation. The study's hypothesis that people choose to go against the light distribution principle that gives rise to the most positive emotions is confirmed, among other things, by the significant differences in the results. From which it is also evident that people is variously emotionally influenced by different light distribution principles, and that visual objective lighting is the light distribution principle that people prefer to go against. It was also found that it is important to be able to read the surroundings, the boundaries of the room and to have a line of sight, which can affect the emotional experience and the perceived security. The result suggests that the emotional reaction is more related to the experience of the light than the appearance of the place. This knowledge creates a greater understanding of how lighting can be planned in a built outdoor environment. Our modern lifestyle creates a need to be able to reside freely in the urban space even during the dark hours, which is why lighting design has become a crucial aspect of satisfying peoples need to feel secure. As these lighting systems affect social, economic and ecological sustainability, there is a need to find out how to effectively manage people with light. The study's results show good opportunities to be able to lead people to certain paths by using visual objective lighting. This can, in the long run, give the opportunity to reduce the climate impact through reduced energy consumption, since it is possible to reduce the total illumination by directing people through selected roads where the lighting is concentrated on selected objects.
