Recria de bezerras de corte sob pastejo exclusivo em azevém ou em azevém consorciado com leguminosas / Rearing of beef heifers under exclusive pasture in italian ryegrass or italian ryegrass consorced with legumesVicente, Juliano Melleu 23 February 2017 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The ingestive behavior and the ingestion of forage by beef heifers were evaluated in the vegetative and flowering stages of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.). The treatments were: grazing exclusively on ryegrass, ryegrass intercropping with vetch (Vicia sativa L.) or red clover (Trifolium pratense L.). The grazing method was continuous with variable stocking. The experimental design was the completely randomized with repeated measures arrangement, three forage systems and three repetitions of area. For evaluations of forage intake, chromic oxide was used as an indicator of fecal production and heifers were considered as experimental units. The forage mass, allowance of forage and allowance of leaf blades were, 1596.2 kg / ha DM, 12 kg DM / 100 kg BW and 4.5 kg DM / 100 kg BW respectively. The participation of vetch and red clover in the forage mass corresponded to 13.2% and 4.5% respectively in the vegetative stage. In the flowering stage, the participation of legumes corresponded to 0.6%. In forage as grazed, crude protein (17.8%), neutral detergent fiber (55.8%) and in situ dry matter digestibility (76.7%) were similar among forage systems. These variables differed between phenological stages of ryegrass. The grazing time differed between the systems being superior in the system with vetch. The forage intake rate in the clover system was higher than the other systems. The dry matter intake was similar among forage systems and was higher in the vegetative stage compared to the flowering stage. The average daily gain was similar among forage systems and phenological stages. With little participation of red clover or vetch in the herbage mass intercropped with ryegrass, it does not modify the intake of dry matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber, resulting in the same performance of beef heifers.

Characteristics of forage intake process by lambs grazing Italian ryegrass pasture (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) were studied, from the hypothesis that different phenological stages of the plant may influence the food gathering process by grazing animals. The experiment was carried out from May to November of 2007 in the Federal University of Santa Maria. Evaluations where made in three occasions within phenological stages of annual ryegrass: Vegetative (11/09), Pre-flowering (14/10) and Flowering (11/11). Eight female lambs (45.0 ± 4.3 kg), Ile de France x Texel crossbreed, with an average age of eight months were utilized. To quantify intake rate and grazing behavior parameters by lambs, grazing tests were conducted. Forage mass, sward height, vertical structure of the pasture and chemical composition of the forage apparently ingested by the lambs were evaluated to determine pasture characteristics. A completely randomized design with three treatments and five replicates in the vegetative stage and six replicates in the other phenological stages was used. Intake rate, bite mass and bite depth were similar (P>0.05) between different stages with a forage on offer of 13.7kg of dry matter per 100kg of live weight. At vegetative stage, bite rate is negatively determined by sward height. At pre-flowering and flowering stages grazing time is positively influenced by sward height. The bite depth is positively influenced by the sward height and negatively influenced by stem bulk density in all phenological stages. The bite rate is negatively influenced by sward height at the vegetative stage of Italian Ryegrass. At the pre-flowering and flowering stage the grazing time is positively influenced by sward height. Grazing time (GT= 27.46 + 0.09day) and number of bites (NB= -175.04 + 9.41day) increased linearly during the pasture cycle. The smaller bite rate was at 135º day after Italian ryegrass emergence and the greater time per bite happened at 146º day. In non limiting forage on offer, lambs maintained the rate of intake constant by increasing bite rate. Among the herbage attributes, the sward height is the most important to determine changes in the grazing behavior of lambs on Italian Ryegrass pasture.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Two experiments were carried out aiming to evaluate pasture attributes and productive
and reproductive performance of beef heifers from nine to 13 months of age (Experiment 1)
and subsequently from 15 to 18 months of age (Experiment 2). Pasture and livestock
assessment in Experiment 1 totaled 112 days, from July to November 2008. The beef heifers
were kept grazing on Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam), with heifers either
exclusively on pasture or receiving fat as a supplement (0.15 or 0.30% of body weight (BW)).
Experiment 2 was carried out from January to April 2009 and pasture attributes, productive
and reproductive performance and beef heifers ingestive behavior in Coastcross (Cynodon
dactylon (L.) with forage on offer (FO) of 10% and Alexandergrass (Urochloa plantaginea)
with FO of 8 and 12% were studied. On both experiments continuous grazing method was
used with variable number of animals. The experimental design was completely randomized
with repeated measures over time. The following variables were measured in Experiment 1:
animal performance, pasture and supplement efficiency of conversion to kg of body weight,
height , body weight:height ratio, pelvic area and reproductive tract score of heifers. Pasture
variables were similar between supplement levels and the average values of forage mass and
forage on offer were 1497.6 kg ha-1 DM and 11.45 kg DM 100 kg-1 BW, respectively. The
productive and reproductive variables were not affected by fat levels tested. Heifers
supplemented with fat had higher average daily gain, body weight, height, condition score and
body weight: height ratio than heifers exclusively on pasture. The use of supplemental fat
promoted no change in pelvic area and reproductive tract score of heifers, which presents
inadequate development to allow breeding at 12/14 months old. In Experiment 2, the
ingestive behavior was measured in four continuous 12 hour periods. Pasture variables,
animal performance and ingestive behavior in Alexandergrass were similar in both forage on
offer. There was both stocking rate and gain per hectare increase of 22 and 75%, respectively
when heifers grazed on Alexandergrass in relation to Coastcross. The heifers present similar
individual and reproductive performance when grazing on either Coastcross or
Alexandergrass on both forage on offer and are considered capable of breeding at 18 months
of age.
O Experimento 2
As variáveis do desempenho
As bezerras
No experimento 2, o comportamento
As variáveis do pasto,
As novilhas

Produção e composição do leite de vacas das raças Holandês e Jersey, em pastagem de azevém anual / Production and milk quality of Holstein and Jersey cows breeds, grazing annual ryegrassDiefenbach, Jairo 29 February 2012 (has links)
This study evaluated the lactation curve shape, the yield and composition of milk from cows
of Holstein and Jersey breeds grazing annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) in northwestern
Rio Grande do Sul, and aimed to analyze its response when subjected to grazing pasture
herd consisting of two genotypes. The experiment was conducted from 08.18.2010 to
10.29.2010 and are used in total, eleven tester cows of each racial group and a variable
number of regulator cows. The animals were managed in rotational grazing with variable
stocking rate and were supplemented at a rate of 1 kg per 3 liters of milk produced above 15
liters / cow / day. Pasture management allowed similar grazing conditions between the two
tested breeds and proved to be not limiting to pasture and animals production. Individual
milking performance was measured once a week throughout experimental period. The visual
body condition score (BCS, 1-5), was also registered weekly, and body weigh was measured
monthly. The experimental design for pasture variables and for individual animal production
was a randomized block design with replications in time, having been used stepwise proc
(SAS, 2009) to test regression models. Only the supplement in the months August,
September and October in analysis, besides individual productions corrected to 4% fat, day
consuption in the months of August, September and October was considered in analysis,
besides individual animal productions corrected to 4% fat, days in lactation period , body
weights, BCS, number of lactations and age. Individual samples were taken by milking in
September and October, and analyzed for the following milk components: fat, protein,
lactose, water, acidity, freezing point, density, and computed total dry extract (TDE) and
defatted dry extract (DDE). The statistical analysis for milk components was randomized
complete blocks with triple factorial arrangement for breeds (2), periods (2), and stages of
lactation (4). ANOVA was performed by GLM (SAS, 2009) and multivariate analysis, through
Software Multiv (Pillar, 1997), using the correlation between variables as a measure of
similarity, and clustering criteria was the least variance of sum of squares Jersey exceeded
Holstein (P <0.005) for fat (%) lactose (%) and protein (%); Holstein was exceeding Jersey (P
<0.0001) for fat (kg), protein (kg) and TDE ( kg). Correlation studies showed a clear
difference in the degree of association between genotypes for dry matter intake of feed, with
lower association for Jersey genotype, Holtstein presented a higher and consistent
dependence of intake throughout the experimental period, coinciding with pasture cycle. This
trend may indicate greater efficiency of Jersey genotype in the use of pastures of high
quality, obtained in the initial pasture phases. The regression studies indicated that
supplement dry matter intake (partial R ²) in September explained 65.69% of milk production
for Holstein breed, and supplement dry matter intake (partial R ²) in October explained
55.73% of milk production of Jersey breed.
total (EST) e extrato seco desengordurado (ESD).

Previous issue date: 2010-11-26 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Epidemiological data, clinical and pathological findings of the spontaneous and
experimental poisoning by nitrate and nitrite in cattle fed by oats (Avena sativa) and ryegrass
(Lolium spp), diphenylamine test, and the nitrate content in the samples of the pasture where
the outbreaks occurred are described. The disease occurs in different regions of the state of
Santa Catarina, in which pastures have exuberant growth, after receiving excessive amounts
of chemical and/or organic fertilizer, mainly when raining occurs after a period of dry
wheather. The animals grazing these pastures quickly developed brown mucosa, tachypnea,
staggering gait, frequent urination, bloating, lateral recumbency and death in few minutes or
hours. At necropsy of four animals that died spontaneously, the main lesions found were
brown mucosa, dark color of the blood (chocolate), intense red color of the skeletal muscles
and of the left part of the myocardium. The experimental reproduction of the disease was
performed in seven cattles, with pastures of four farms where the disease occurred. The
animals were fed with fresh and hay oats and ryegrass. Four animals died, two became ill and
recovered, and one was treated with 2 mg / kg per body weight methylene blue 1%, and one
cattle did not show changes. Clinical signs and lesions of the sickened and died animals were
similar to natural cases. Microscopic changes were not observed in spontaneous and
experimental poisoning. The diphenylamine test was positive in all the farms where the
outbreaks occurred. The chemical analysis performed on samples of pasture from several
farms in which outbreaks of the disease occured ranged from 0.30% to 3.36% of nitrate in the
dry matter. The disease is associated with the ingestion of oats and ryegrass pastures heavily
fertilizer, which accumulates high levels of nitrate after a period of rain and is characterized
esquelética e do miocárdio esquerdo.

Previous issue date: 2013-03-05 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Oat and ryegrass pastures grown in mixture are the most common forages used during the fall
and winter in subtropical and some temperate climate regions due to their high nutritional
value and their ability to grow during seasons when the accumulation rate of most of the
native forage species is low. Nevertheless, the use of oat and ryegrass swards grown as pure
stand, compared to their mixture is little studied. The aim of this work was assessing the
structural changes of oat and ryegrass swards as well as their mixture during the growing
season and their impacts on the short-term intake rate (STIR) of cattle. The experiment was
conducted in University of State Santa Catarina, UDESC, in Lages, SC. The treatments were
black oat (Avena strigosa cv. IAPAR-61) and annual (Italian) ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum
L. cv. Common) grown in pure stands and in mixture. The swards were sowing in an area of
approximately 100m2, with four replications of the area assigned to a randomized in blocks,
with grazing cycles repetitions in time. The defoliation height of the pastures took place
when the oat, the mixture and the ryegrass reached the heights of 23, 20 and 17 cm,
respectively, and a leniently grazing severity of 40% of the initial height was adopted. Three
Holstein heifers (300 ± 20 kg initial LW) were used to measure the STIR, determined by
double weighting technique. The grazing tests were performed in the morning and afternoon
in each treatment. The biting rate was measured by manual counting. The biomass pregrazing
was evaluated with a rising plate meter. Samples were collected to determine the
chemical composition and morphology of swards, before each grazing. The proportion of
stems + pseudostems and dead material increased linearly as the growing season progressed
in all types of sward. The production of biomass was lower in the oat swards, and the ryegrass
and mixture not differed. The STIR did not differ between treatments, but decreased when the
offer of laminas was restricted. The STIR remained constant until the third grazing cycle for
the oat and until the fourth cycle for the ryegrass and the mixture. From this point, the STIR
was linearly reduced due to increases in the time required for completing a bite. These
changes were evidenced when the proportion of leaf lamina in the canopy was below 37% of
the total DM. In conclusion, the STIR of the heifers in pastures of oat, ryegrass and their
mixture did not change according to the type of sward. However, it is reduced when the leaf
lamina proportion in the canopy is less than 37% of the total DM / A aveia e o azevém cultivados em associação são as forrageiras mais utilizadas nos meses de
Contudo, a
IAPAR-61) e azevém anual (Lolium multiflorum L. cv. Comum) cultivados puros e o
A partir deste ponto, a TI reduziu

Sistemas de produção com rotação de culturas, coberturas e herbicidas para redução e prevenção do desenvolvimento de plantas daninhas resistentes ao Glifosato / Agricultural production systems with crop rotation, cover crops and herbicides for reduction and prevention of development of weeds resistant to GlyphosateSergio Antonio Alexandrino 22 April 2015 (has links)
The emergence of weeds resistant to Glyphosate has been putting at risk the use of crops that have the RR technology. In order to check the development of weeds resistant to Glyphosate, a field experiment was carried out at AgroMarochi experimental station located in \'Ponta Grossa\', State of Paraná, from 2009 to 2012, with the purpose of evaluating different agricultural production systems, including crop rotation, cover crops and application of herbicides with different mechanisms of action. The experimental design was a randomized blocks, with sixteen treatments and three replications. In light of the results, it is concluded that: (i) rotation of crops and of active ingredients of herbicide provides better agronomic and economic performance (lower risk of emergence of resistant weeds and higher yields), (ii) the systems 3 (soybean/ wheat/ soybean/ oat/ maize/ wheat) and 4 (Soybean/ ryegrass/ soybean/ ryegrass/ maize/ oat), with 33% of the area with crop rotation with maize in the summer season, are the most profitable regardless of the scenarios 1 and 2 of the NPV (Net Present Value), (iii) treatment with standard management of herbicides contributed in increasing the population of weeds (Euphorbia heterophylla, Sida sp., Spermacoce latifolia, Lolium multiflorum - resistant and not resistant to Glyphosate, Conyza spp. - resistant and not resistant to Glyphosate), and had lower profitability, (iv) the management with rotation of herbicides favored reducing weed populations, (v) the oat crop helps in reducing weeds, as ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and Conyza spp. resistant and not resistant to Glyphosate, mainly, (vi) fallow area contributes to the increasing population of weeds, as ryegrass and Conyza spp. resistant and not resistant to Glyphosate, mainly, and (vii) the application of Glyphosate associate to atrazine in post emergency (treatments 6, 7, 11 and 14: crop rotation systems 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively) not differ from application of Tembotrione associate to Atrazine (treatments 8, 9, 12 and 15: crop rotation systems 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively) in RR maize crop over weed population of ryegrass and Conyza spp. resistant and not resistant to Glyphosate.

Comportamento ingestivo e produtividade de vacas das raças jersey e holandesa em pastagens de azevém anual / Ingestive behaviour and productivity of cows of jersey and holstein s breeds in annual ryegrass pasturesMaixner, Adriano Rudi 02 December 2011 (has links)
A trial was conducted to evaluate the ingestive behavior, pastures dynamics and productivity
of cows of the Jersey and Holstein s breeds grazing annual-ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) in
northwestern Rio Grande do Sul. From April 29th to October 29th of 2010, eleven tester-cows
of each breed group, and a variable number of regulator-cows, were managed in rotational
grazing with variable stocking rate and received a commercial concentrate at a rate of 1 kg of
concentrate for every 3 liters of milk produced up to 15 liters/cow/day. Eight tester-cows of
each breed group, two of each stage of lactation, were used in evaluations of ingestive
behavior, held on September 27th and October 27th and during the two-day occupation of the
paddocks. Pastures management allowed similar conditions between the two tested herds and
showed to not limit production of pasture and animals. Adopted supplementation criteria
reflected in the provision of large quantities of concentrate for Holstein cows, which had
individual milk productions, milk corrected to 4% of fat and total solids higher than the Jersey
breed. The Holstein herd was managed with higher stocking rates than the Jersey herd, which
reflected directly in superiority on animal production and supply of concentrate per area for
the Holstein s herd. For each kilogram of concentrate supplied individually, the Jersey cows
had higher individual productions than Holstein, suggesting advantages for the Jersey breed
on the conversion of the supplement in animal products and on the economic aspect. The
advance of the grazing season and structural changes in the sward conditioned reductions in
grazing time and increased rumination, for both breeds, but did not affect the time required for
completing other activities. Jersey cows spent more time on grazing activities and less on
rumination than Holstein breed, probably to compensate the lower level of supplementation.
Only in the second evaluation time (October) difference was found in bite rate between the
breeds, with superiority for the Holstein cows, and for both breeds, late lactation cows
presented larger number of steps between feeding stations than the cows in early lactation.
Additionally, in Holstein, the increase in the number of steps between feeding stations was
accompanied by a reduction in sward height of the grazing site visited. Differences between
stages of lactation were seen only on variables that represent choices at the level of grazing
patches (sward height of the grazing site visited and the number of steps between feeding
stations), indicating that adaptations of animals in different physiological stages occur at the
level of displacement through the pasture and realization of the bit.
noroeste do Rio Grande do Sul.
realização do bocado.

Evaluation of perennial ryegrass straw as a forage source for ruminantsFisher, Michael J. 28 July 2003 (has links)
We conducted two experiments evaluating perennial ryegrass straw as a forage
source for ruminants. Experiment 1 evaluated digestion and physiological variables in
steers offered perennial ryegrass straw containing increasing levels of lolitrem B.
Sixteen ruminally cannulated Angus X Hereford steers (231 ± 2 kg BW) were blocked
by weight and assigned randomly to one of four treatments (TRT). Steers were
provided perennial ryegrass straw at 120% of the previous 5-d average intake. Prior to
straw feeding, soybean meal (SBM) was provided (0.1% BW; CP basis) to meet the
estimated requirement for degradable intake protein. Low (L) and high (H) lolitrem B
straws (<100 and 1550 ppb, respectively) were used to formulate TRT diets: LOW
(100% L); LOW MIX (67% L:33% H); HIGH MIX (33% L:67% H); HIGH (100%
H). Intake and digestibility of DM and OM, and ruminal pH, total VFA, and NH₃-N
were not affected by increasing lolitrem B concentration (P>0.13). Ruminal
indigestible ADF (IADF) fill increased linearly (P=0.01) and IADF passage rate
(%/h) decreased linearly (P=0.04) as lolitrem B level increased. Experiment 2
evaluated performance and production of 72 Angus X Hereford cows (539 ± 5 kg
BW) consuming perennial ryegrass straw containing increasing levels of lolitrem B
during the last third of gestation. Cows were blocked by body condition score (BCS)
and randomly assigned to one of three TRT. Cows were provided perennial ryegrass
straw ad libitum and supplemented with SBM (0.1% BW; CP basis) to meet the
estimated requirement for degradable intake protein. Mixtures of a L and H lolitrem B
straw (467 and 2017 ppb, respectively) were used to formulate TRT diets: LOW
(100% L); MIX (50% L:50% H); HIGH (100% H). Thirteen of 24 cows on the HIGH
TRT exhibited signs of ryegrass staggers and were removed from the study. Dry
matter intake was not affected (P>0.12) by increasing lolitrem B concentration;
however, estimated DM digestibility decreased linearly (P<0.01) as lolitrem B
concentration increased. Lolitrem B concentration did not influence pre- or post
calving weight or BCS change (P>0.10). These data suggest that feeding perennial
ryegrass straw containing up to 1550 ppb lolitrem B does not adversely affect nutrient
digestion or physiological response variables in steers. However, providing straw with
a lolitrem B concentration of approximately 2000 ppb resulted in 54% of cows
exhibiting signs of ryegrass staggers. Blending of H and L straws appears to be a
successful management practice.
