Atividades de enfermagem no Centro de Material e Esterilização: subsídios para o dimensionamento de pessoal / Nursing activities in the Sterilization Central Supply: subsidies to dimensioning of nursing staffJanaina Anchieta Costa 03 June 2009 (has links)
Diante da ausência de parâmetros que fundamentem o planejamento e a avaliação do quadro de profissionais de enfermagem nos Centros de Material e Esterilização (CMEs), este estudo, de desenvolvimento metodológico, teve por objetivos identificar e validar as atividades realizadas pela equipe de enfermagem em CMEs de instituições hospitalares, como subsídio para a definição da carga de trabalho da unidade. Para identificar as atividades desenvolvidas pela equipe de enfermagem nos CMEs, foi realizado consulta às indicações formuladas pelos órgãos oficiais e aos manuais técnicos publicados na área. Em seguida, realizou-se levantamento bibliográfico sobre o assunto descrevendo-se, para cada área de trabalho dos CMEs, as atividades consideradas pertinentes e essenciais para o desenvolvimento do trabalho. Para validar as atividades identificadas, optou-se por utilizar o método da Validade de Conteúdo, por meio da aplicação da Técnica Delphi. O instrumento para validação das atividades identificadas ficou constituído por seis áreas de trabalho, 24 subprocessos e 96 atividades, além de 18 atividades específicas da enfermeira. Para compor o grupo de juízes, optou-se por convidar enfermeiras com título de especialista ou com experiência profissional de no mínimo cinco anos na área, que atuassem em unidades de CME de instituições hospitalares da cidade de São Paulo, considerados de bom padrão de desempenho. Ao grupo de juízas, constituído por onze enfermeiras, coube avaliar a pertinência, clareza e objetividade na definição das áreas de trabalho e dos subprocessos relacionados; clareza e objetividade na descrição das atividades indicadas em cada área; representatividade das atividades descritas em cada área; realização das atividades nas áreas apontadas; necessidade de inclusão ou exclusão de atividades em cada área. Foram consideradas validadas as áreas, os subprocessos de trabalho e as atividades que obtiveram índice de concordância mínimo de 70%, em qualquer fase da Técnica Delphi. A análise dos resultados obtidos na primeira fase evidenciou que todos os itens foram validados. Entretanto, a análise dos comentários e das sugestões realizados pelas juízas determinou a realização de alterações no conteúdo do quadro de atividades proposto, que foram submetidas à nova avaliação do grupo, resultando na validação de seis áreas de trabalho, 25 subprocessos, 110 atividades e 25 atividades específicas da enfermeira. Com a realização desta pesquisa evidenciam-se perspectivas para a realização de novas investigações que contribuam para a determinação de parâmetros que subsidiem o processo de dimensionar pessoal de enfermagem nas unidades de CME / Due to the absence of parameters that support the planning and evaluation of the nursing professionals team in the Sterilization Central Supply (SCS), this study, of methodological development, aimed to identify and validate the activities performed by the nursing staff in the SCS of hospitals, as subsidy to determine the workload of the unit. In order to identify the activities developed by the nursing staff in the SCS, indications made by official organs and technical manuals published in the area were consulted. Then, a survey of the literature about the subject was performed, reporting, to each work area of the SCS, the activities considered pertinent and essential to the development of the work. In order to validate the identified activities, the Content Validation method was used, by means of the Delphi Technique. The instrument to validation of the identified activities consisted of six work areas, 24 subprocesses and 96 activities, besides 18 specific activities of the nurse. In order to compose the group of judges, nurses with specialist title or with minimum of five years experience in the area were invited, and who worked in SCS units of hospitals in the city of São Paulo, considered of good standard of performance. The group of judges, consisting of eleven nurses, was in charge of evaluating the pertinence, clarity and objectivity in the definition of the work areas and of the related subprocesses; clarity and objectivity in the description of the indicated activities in each area; representativeness of described activities in each area; performance of the activities in the pointed areas, need of inclusion or exclusion of activities in each area. The areas, subprocesses of work and activities considered validated were those that obtained index of agreement minimum of 70% in any phase of the Delphi Technique. The analysis of the obtained results of the first phase showed that all items were validated. However, the analysis of comments and suggestions performed by the judges determined changes in the content of the proposed activities, which were submitted to new evaluation of the group, resulting in the validation of six work areas, 25 subprocesses, 110 activities and 25 specific activities of the nurse. This research shows perspectives to new investigations that contribute to determination of parameters that subsidize the process of dimensioning of nursing staff in the units of SCS

Construction is a big role player in every economy, and the Site Management Process (SMP) occupies a strategic position in the construction process. Despite existence of appreciable research, technology diffusion in the construction industry is slow. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) implementation processes and products have not adequately and beneficially exploited ICT for improvement of the SMP. This is especially true in developing countries. Without increase in utilisation of ICT, potential benefits for the SMP remain untapped. The aim of the thesis was to ascertain the levels of utilisation of recent ICT developments for the SMP, and thereby gauge the benefits or lack thereof. The theoretical concept of the research is based on the technology transfer sub-concept of adaptation. A fundamentally positivistic view, with principles of objectivist approach was used for the enquiry. The approach included an extensive literature review, and a multi-stage investigation strategy, set in South Africa. Theory reviewed was in the main disciplines of construction science and technology, computer science and technology, and management science. Investigations involved case studies of construction sites, a global ICT survey, a national practitioner survey, and analysis of ICT products. Findings from literature assert the appreciable potential utility in recent ICT, thereby substantiating the adaptability of recent ICT. In addition ICT adoption in the SMP is inadequate and inexpedient, falling short of potential benefits for construction, both generally and in the local context. Furthermore there are challenges to ICT adoption, which could vary according to context. Field research results also point to underutilisation of innovations located in recent ICT. The main challenges in this regard include inadequate knowledge of potential utility of recent ICT, and lack of relevant support and effective approaches to technology integration, in the SMP. Moreover exploitation of the adaptability of recent ICT in the local SMP does not go beyond basic adoption. As such most diffusion occurs only for items requiring an adaptation of usage context or area of application. The results strongly indicate minimal innovativeness in this regard. Frameworks for possible adaptations of existing technologies were also derived, while propositions are made for approaches to improve the utility of recent ICT in the SMP. Through a customised approach, the thesis establishes foundational understanding towards a generic framework for adapting potential utility in ICT to uses in construction, especially in the SMP. Thus the research contributes strategic information to the fledgling CICT body of knowledge, especially in the local context.

This thesis aims at developing a conceptual model for supply networks optimization in the floriculture industry in Kenya. In the literature review a detailed account of the evolution of supply chain management, the concept and the factors influencing simultaneous optimization of supply networks in the floriculture industry is given. The area of complex adaptive systems is explored and the link with the floriculture industry in Kenya is shown. A review of current studies is done on the subject of supply chain management and particularly the various conceptual frameworks/models developed by a number of researchers around the world. The supply chain performance measurement and the requirements for model building are also given.
The research methodology provides the research paradigm and research design and discusses the justification of the approach taken for the study. The target population consisted of all active cut flower exporting firms by 31st December 2009 as per the information provided by Horticultural Crops Development Authority (HCDA). This target population comprising of 412 active exporters was stratified in terms of: large, International, local, embedded, unimpeded, small and medium scale enterprises. Sampling was done through census sampling technique, in which case the entire population was considered. Data analysis is also discussed including the various tests to be carried out in relation to validity and reliability of data. There is a detailed presentation of principal factor analysis results. Finally there is a detailed discussion on the ethical considerations in the conduct of my data collection and research process.
Chapter four outlined the factors that are indeed useful to be considered when designing a conceptual model for managing supply networks for simultaneous optimization. Such factors included: country development; quality of inputs; financing; customer responsiveness; research and development. Also discussed are the factors that contribute to overall organizational performance which in this case included: return on trading investment, overall operational costs, overall productivity growth rates and outsourcing activities and decisions. The triple bottom line benefits encompassing environmental

audit, financial audit and social audit have also been discussed in relation to country specific benefits in relation to the floriculture industry in Kenya.
The revised conceptual model for simultaneous optimisation of supply networks in the floriculture industry is presented consisting of: key success factors; financing; information integration; country specific benefits; transport; research and development. These are the factors which contribute to enhancing performance of the floriculture industry in Kenya. A Material Management Decision Support System is applied to a case study distribution facility. The system is formulated within the framework of an algorithm that consists of two primary steps.
The first step utilizes a simulation model to analyze the impact of three management policies that implement material handling equipment in the distribution facility. The simulated results of each policy represent a database of performance measure values.
The second step utilizes a decision model to evaluate the set of policy alternatives. In this step, the user is required to rank order and assign relative weights to decision parameters. A value function is computed for each alternative using this information, the simulated performance measures and non-model parameters. Output for the model is in terms of rank ordered numerical worths that designate the final selection alternative based on the decision maker's preferences. / Master of Science

Wood materials use in the U.S. cabinet industry, 1991-1993Punches, John 11 June 2009 (has links)
Professional buyers of wood materials at 2,751 cabinet producing companies throughout the United States were questioned regarding their use of wood materials in 1991 and predicted use in 1993. Producers of both stock cabinets (Standard Industrial Classification 2434) and custom cabinets (Standard Industrial Classification 571202) were included. Using stratification based on three firm size categories and the two Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) categories, results were extrapolated to the industry. The study estimated that nearly 12,500 firms were involved in the production of cabinets in 1991. Industry employment was estimated at over 116,300 persons and total industry sales at $8.8 billion. Companies in SIC 2434 with annual sales of two million dollars or more (three percent of the total estimated number of cabinet producers) accounted for approximately 60 percent of the industry’s sales and nearly 43 percent of the industry’s employment. Hardwood lumber, particleboard, and hardwood plywood were the materials most heavily utilized for wood cabinet production. Softwood lumber, softwood plywood, and oriented Strandboard were used in limited volumes. Of lumber used for cabinet production, red oak was the most popular species. High grades of hardwood lumber were preferred by both stock and custom cabinet manufacturers. Wholesalers provided the majority (80 to 85%) of the industry’s lumber and panel purchases. Stock cabinets were distributed primarily through independent stocking distributors (26.9%) and builders / remodelers (24.1%), while custom cabinets were sold through builders / remodelers (47.9%) or went directly to the homeowner (38.7%). / Master of Science

Thesis (MPA (School of Public Management and Planning))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / Within the context of South African government departments, Supply Chain Management (SCM) is a fairly new discipline that was introduced in 2003 in order to move away from the rule-based procurement system to an integrated SCM system that would promote the New Public Management model by means of improved financial management, efficiency, efficacy and economy in the public sector and provide value added goods and services to the customers of government. Government action is primarily driven by legislation. Accounting officers of government departments, management teams and other levels of staff are faced with the problem that they need to have a sense of and understanding of the values or principles entrenched in the legislative framework affecting SCM that require institutionalisation in their organisations to support the “living” of SCM in those organisations. The aim of the thesis is to identify the principles or values entrenched in the concept of SCM and the legislative framework at a high level that will assist public sector organisations to institutionalise SCM in their organisations and that supports the evolutionary implementation process of SCM. As SCM is not a new terrain in the global context information was collected by means of a literature study on the subject of SCM. The study incorporates the philosophy, phenomena, processes, practices, and activities relating to the institutionalisation of SCM. In addition, South African statutes relevant to SCM will be examined. Other relevant public sector documents such as green papers, white papers, departmental annual reports, budget statements, organisational structures, reviews, policy documents, guideline documents, reports, strategic plans and best practice documents will also be consulted.
The principles and values contained in the concept of SCM and those entrenched in the legislative framework that relates to SCM are similar. Institutionalisation of SCM is manifested in South African statutes and is an evolutionary process. Failure to institutionalise the SCM and legislative principles and values affect both the organisation and the customer. At all levels institutionalisation of SCM demands leadership; organisational and behavioural change; integration; commitment; excellence; communication; teamwork; long term relationships; trust; risk, benefit; reward; information sharing; joint planning; positive attitudes; participation; an ongoing process of learning, training and development - changes the mindset; all of which is best supported by a team of professionals and proper units of measure.
The evidence in this thesis suggest that the institutionalisation of the values and principles entrenched in the concept of SCM and the South African legislative framework related thereto will assist public sector organisations with the evolutionary implementation process of SCM. The consequential “living” of SCM in public sector organisations will enhance the quality of financial management, but more importantly provide value added goods and services to the public as customers of government. Negative attitudes and behaviour of people in the public sector SCM environment must be overcome through change management processes in order to implement SCM at the desired pace and scale.

Traditionellt sett har frågor kringmaterialhantering inte varit någon prioritet, av förklarliga skäl. Ett sjukhus är primärt envårdinrättning och inte ett företag som aktivt behöver sträva efter lönsamhet för att säkerställasin överlevnad. Detta har emellertid mynnat ut i bristande styrning och rutiner med högakostnader och bristande resurseffektivitet som resultat. Obefintliga arbetsrutiner och metoderför materialstyrning tillsammans med felaktigt utnyttjande av lokaler har föranlett dennastudie. Studien ger förslag på hur operationsavdelning 1 på Södra Älvsborgs sjukhus kanarbeta för att förbättra lagerhanteringen av sitt förbrukningsmaterial. Semistruktureradeintervjuer tillsammans med kvantitativ data står till grund för arbetet som är indelat i trehuvudområden, processer, materialstyrning och lagerstruktur. Efter analys av empirisk datatillsammans med den teoretiska referensramen kan några rekommendationer ges tilloperationsavdelningen. Traditionally, materials management issueshave not been a priority for explanatory reasons. A hospital is primarily a healthcare facilityand not a company that actively needs to seek profitability to ensure its survival. However,this has resulted in insufficient management and procedures with high costs and lack ofresource efficiency as a result. Deficient work routines and methods for materialsmanagement along with improper utilization of storage facilities have been the main focus ofthis study. The study provides suggestions for how operation ward 1 at Södra Älvsborgshospital can work to improve stock management of its consumables. Semi-structuredinterviews along with quantitative data form the basis of this study, which is divided intothree main areas, processes, material management and warehouse design. After analysing theempirical data together with the theoretical frame of reference, some recommendations maybe presented to the operations department. The consumables should be moved to anappropriate storage space on the lower floor that has appropriate ventilation for medicalmaterials and a specific unpacking area. The new storage area should be dimensioned andoptimized based on product family, pick rate and physical characteristics of the articles tominimize overwork, unnecessary movements and promote ergonomics. In order to ensure thatthe right skills are utilized for the correct task, a warehouse manager should be employed withmain responsibility for materials handling. Valuable time can thus be saved for the nurses sothat they can focus more on their primary tasks. In order to simplify materials management,implementation of a two-bin system should be carried out, where safety stocks, re-orderpoints and order quantities are built-in and visualized.
