Cold Spray consists in the high-speed spray of powder particles onto a target; namely the substrate. Their adhesion and accumulation leads to a more or less dense coating to be used in the automotive, the biomedical… areas. The first stage of coating results from a powder to substrate contact. Bonding is due to mechanical anchoring and, depending on the involved materials, to metallurgical interaction. This study helps to rule on these two components. For this, two systems, which promote either mechanical or metallurgical mechanism separately, are selected. Mechanical anchoring is studied through polymer metallization using of aluminum for spraying onto polyamide 6,6. Metallurgical bonding is studied using titanium onto Ti-6Al-4V. Before studying the bonding mechanisms, the spraying process is investigated using many process parameters and materials properties (temperature, particle size…). Advanced tools are employed to determine impact conditions; i.e. particle velocity by DPV2000, substrate temperature by infrared thermography and particle temperature by numerical calculation. Mechanical anchoring onto the polymer is described through the analysis of elementary particle impacts and through 2D (micrograph sections) and 3D (laminography) study of interface roughness. The porosity gradient is also quantified. Metallurgical bonding is studied by TEM. Before that, a finite element simulation is used to go into the phenomenology of the impact and to quantify the local deformation and temperature at the interface. The simulated particle morphology is compared to those observed in real spraying conditions. Lastly, deposit adhesion is assessed by pull-off testing and the fractured surface is observed. The influence of the substrate surface morphology is exhibited using sand-blasting and laser structuring pretreatments.

La2Mo2O9, the first compound in the LAMOX family, is interesting for its applications as electrolytes in fuel cells because it presents a high ionic conductivity. It was discovered during the investigation of La2O3 - MoO3phase diagram. That shows the important role of phase diagram study in the discovery of new materials which has become a major objective of many solid chemists. In this concept, two ternary phase diagrams of La2O3-Nb2O5-WO3 and La2O3-Nb2O5-MoO3 were explored and analyzed for the first time using the solid-state synthesis. The structures of the obtained samples were characterized by the powder X-ray and neutron diffraction and by the transmission electronic microscopy. Besides, their electric properties were tested by the complex impedance spectroscopy onsintered pellets. As results, most of the mono-, bi-, tri-phase zones in the title phase diagrams have been defined. Particularly, during the phase-diagram investigation, the structures of two new phases La3NbWO10 and La5NbMo2O16 were ab-initio resolved. Firstly, the La3NbWO10 cell is asuperstructure of a fluorine (2aF*2aF*2aF) with the lengthened c axis. Considering the La18Nb6W62O604(Z = 6) formulation, we can easily note that the structure presents 2 types of defaults: cationic and anionic vacancies. Secondly, the La5NbMo2O16 phase is isotype of Pr5Mo3O16 compound. Its cell is also a fluorine superstruture. It crystallized in a cubic system (a = 11.22Å) with the space group Pn n. The compound is promising because it presents an oxygen conductivity comparable to that of La2Mo2O9 at low temperature.

The thesis deals with the issue of executive functions in patients with acquired brain injury and possibilies of executive deficit detection in real life circumstances. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part consists of three chapters. In the first chapterthe definition, localization and different disorders of executive functions are mentioned. The second chapter presents some neuropsychological methods suitable for executive functions assessment and their limits. In the final chapter the Multiple Errands Test method and its various modifications are introduced. The main purpose of the empirical part was to evaluate the ability of the Multiple Errands Test method - hospital version (MET - HV) to detect deficits in executive functions related to daily life functioning. The research group consisted of patients with acquired brain injury (N = 20) and neurologically healthy adults (N = 20) hospitalized in the Rehabilitation Center Kladruby. The results proved the ability of the method MET - HV to distinguish well between patients with acquired brain damage and healthy adults. The second hypothesis concerning the ability of the method to distinguish between patients with frontal and nonfrontal injury wasn't confirmed. Another purpose of the empirical part was to...

Synthesis by soft chemistry and microstructural and electrical characterization of the anionic conductor La2Mo2O9Sellemi, Houssem 20 June 2014 (has links)
La2Mo2O9 based oxides (LAMOX) exhibit high ionic conductivity but can be mixed conductors if they are reduced under low-oxygen atmosphere. In this work, new synthesis methods of La2Mo2O9 by soft chemistry (sol gel route and polyol process) are optimized to facilitate the sample shaping depending on the desired application.Concerning the sol gel syntheses, pure La2Mo2O9 compound was obtained from lanthanum acetate and ammonium molybdate or molybdenum chloride. The influence of several synthesis parameters was determined. The addition of two surfactants was tested: dimethyl dioctadecyl ammonium bromide (DDAB) and F127. The final powders are almost pure after heat treatment at 950 °C for 2 hours, which prevents from high specific surface areas. In the case of the polyol process, pure La2Mo2O9 was obtained as desert roses by agglomeration of very fine polycrystalline platelets built from crystallites of a few tens of nanometers size, after a heat treatment at a lower temperature of about 550°C. The effect of various parameters on the morphology and purity of the powder was tested. In particular, agglomerated spherical particles have been obtained using ethylene glycol as solvent in the presence of urea. The addition of DDAB surfactant enables a doubling the specific surface area comparatively to samples without surfactant, from 16 to 30 m2.g-1. Finally, first tests were carried out as attempts to obtain thin films by centrifugation.Conductivity measurements were recorded on pellets presenting closed porosity (relative density greater than 92%), obtained without the help of a milling step. Conductivity measurements showed that, depending on the synthesis parameters, the grain conductivity can be slightly increased. The study of the reducibility, under diluted H2, of powders resulting from the synthesis by the polyol process, shows that the oxygen losses are faster and larger than with powders synthesized by solid state reaction. Reoxidation of amorphous powders is also faster and occurs at much lower temperature in the case of powders obtained by the polyol pathway.

This study is aimed at looking at the relationship experiences between the adolescent with visual impairment in institutional care and his family. A lack of sufficient guidelines in this field has been identified in the relevant literature. Experts working with these adolescents have confirmed this shortcoming. In order to reach the required goal, a number of objectives were set. By means of a literature study and consultation with experts in the field of blindness as a symptom (in terms of the degree of visual impairment that is experienced), a theoretical framework was set up with regard to the following: adolescence as part of life; the adolescent's relationship with his family; institutional care and institutionalization; as well as play therapeutic assessment and play therapeutic techniques. An empirical study where semi-structured interviews were used as a method of data collection, was undertaken to assess the relationship of the adolescent with visual impairment in institutional care with his family. The following aspects were handled specifically: the way the adolescents with visual impairment in institutional care experience holidays and weekends with their families; their view of their families' perception of them coming home for holidays or weekends; their opinion with regard to family chores and responsibilities that are allocated to them; their experience of participating in the decision making process in the family; their perception of the treatment that they receive from their parents – does it differ in any way from that of their siblings?; their view with regard to “feeling part of” the family as an equal and complete family member; their opinion with regard to things that they would have liked to be done differently during their growing up process; as well as advice that they would give to parents who have children with the same disabilities. Individual semi-structured interviews were used with the ten respondents. Applied research was undertaken as the researcher aimed at establishing solutions for problems that occur with the adolescent with visual impairment in institutional care with regard to his relationship with his family. The researcher used a qualitative approach as research procedure in order to get qualitative empirical data. Considering that in this study a relatively unknown field was researched, a phenomenological strategy within an exploratory study was used to explore, understand and interpret the research question, which is not well known. The research question formulated for this study was: What are the experiences of the adolescent with visual impairment in institutional care with regard to his relationship with his family? Empirical data, which was obtained by using an interview schedule and a play therapeutic technique, showed that: § Adolescents with visual impairment in institutional care are experiencing ambivalent feelings (positive and negative) with regard to spending holidays and/or weekends with their families. There are a variety of factors influencing this experience, whether positively or negatively. § The way adolescents with visual impairment in institutional care view their families' perception with regard to them coming home for holidays or weekends, is mainly influenced by three factors, namely: special activities that are organized during the time that the adolescent is at home, as well as verbal and non-verbal behavior that is communicated towards the adolescent. § Adolescents with visual impairment have a specific opinion with regard to chores and responsibilities that were allocated to them since they were younger. This includes aspects like the adolescents' willingness and ability to complete chores, as well as their willingness to ask for help. They intimated that they are willing to accept chores and responsibilities as they experience positive feelings when they are able to complete such tasks successfully. § Adolescents with visual impairment in institutional care have a specific opinion about their participation in the decision making process in the family. This includes emotions that are experienced with regard to the decision making process (positive emotions are experienced when their opinions are asked in family decisions), their involvement in the decision making process, as well as the influence of decision making on the atmosphere in the house. § Adolescents with visual impairment have a fixed perception with regard to the treatment that they receive from their parents. This perception includes the following aspects: a need for normal treatment, the consequences of preference treatment from their parents, strict treatment (overprotective treatment) from their parents, as well as the emotions they experience about the type of treatment that they are exposed to. § The way adolescents with visual impairment view themselves as “part of” the family - as equals to all household members - is influenced by the following aspects: the influence of institutionalization on the feeling of “belonging to“ (adolescents are away from home for long periods of time and the only contact they have are telephone calls); family events (special activities in which both the family and the adolescent participate during holidays or weekends); family interaction (the families communicational patterns during holidays or weekends); as well as the private space of the adolescents (bedrooms). § Adolescents with visual impairment have a specific opinion with regard to things that they would have liked to be done differently during their process of growing up. They feel that their families should have more insight into the world of people who are visually impaired. They also have the need to be treated in the same way as other family members – they do not want to be overprotected. § Adolescents with visual impairment want to give relevant advice to parents of children who have the same disability. The advice that they suggested are: The child must function more independently; parents must be honest with their child at all times; the child must be treated normally; a feeling of unconditional, positive acceptance must be revealed to the child; no unnecessary restriction must be imposed on the child. They also gave advice with regard to general information (to expand parents' knowledge). The study revealed the experience of the adolescent with visual impairment in institutional care of his relationship with his family, which holds further research possibilities. The desired information was acquired and can be used in further studies of the adolescent in a similar situation. / Dissertation (MSD (Play Therapy))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Social Work and Criminology / Unrestricted

Barn som behöver MIG : (Mobil intensivvårdsgrupp)Lindberg, Elin, Pettersson, Carina January 2010 (has links)
The implementation of Pediatric Medical Emergency Team (PMET) has proven to reduce respiratory arrest and mortality in Pediatric hospitals worldwide. At Astrid Lindgrens Barnsjukhus in Solna, Sweden (ALB) there are advanced plans to start a PMET. The aim of this study was to describe pediatric patients that met potential PMET-criteria before being admitted to pediatric intensive care unit/high demand unit (PICU/HDU) at ALB. The study was a retrospective chart review of admitted pediatric patients at PICU/HDU during 2009. Totally 148 pediatric patients between the age of 0 to 18 years were included in the study. The result showed that respiratory problems were the most common reason for being admitted to the hospital and problems with breathing was the most frequent PMET-criteria. Before the patient moved to the PICU/HDU the most common intervention performed in the emergency department/wards was sample-taking. The conclusion was that around 300 pediatric patients a year could benefit from a PMET at ALB. That is a clear indication that a PMET should be started at ALB to reduce admitted patients to PICU/HDU and identify the patients at risk for acute worsening.

Cityscapes, Climate, and Mental Health: Prioritizing Thermal and Mental Wellbeing in the Design of CitiesJanuary 2020 (has links)
abstract: Urban climate conditions are the physical manifestation of formal and informal social forces of design, policy, and urban management. The urban design community (e.g. planners, architects, urban designers, landscape architects, engineers) impacts urban development through influential built projects and design discourse. Their decisions create urban landscapes that impact physiological and mental health for people that live in and around them. Therefore, to understand possible opportunities for decision-making to support healthier urban environments and communities, this dissertation examines the role of neighborhood design on the thermal environment and the effect the thermal environment has on mental health. In situ data collection and numerical modeling are used to assess current and proposed urban design configurations in the Edison Eastlake public housing community in central Phoenix for their efficacy in cooling the thermal environment. A distributed lagged non-linear model is used to investigate the relative risk of hospitalization for schizophrenia in Maricopa County based on atmospheric conditions. The dissertation incorporates both an assessment of design strategies for the cooling of the thermal environment and an analysis of the existing thermal environment’s relationship with mental health. By reframing the urban design of neighborhoods through the lens of urban climate, this research reinforces the importance of incorporating the community into the planning process and highlights some unintended outcomes of prioritizing the thermal environment in urban design. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Geography 2020

ODS (Oxide Dispersed Strengthened) steels, which are reinforced with metal dispersions of nano-oxides (based on Y, Ti and O elements), are promising materials for future nuclear reactors. The detailed understanding of the mechanisms involved in the precipitation of these nano-oxides would improve manufacturing and mechanical properties of these ODS steels, with a strong economic impact for their industrialization. To experimentally study these mechanisms, an analytical approach by ion implantation is used, to control various parameters of synthesis of these precipitates as the temperature and concentration. This study demonstrated the feasibility of this method and concerned the behaviour of alloys models (based on aluminium oxide) under thermal annealing. High purity Fe-10Cr alloys were implanted with Al and O ions at room temperature. Transmission electron microscopy observations showed that the nano-oxides appear in the Fe-10Cr matrix upon ion implantation at room temperature without subsequent annealing. The mobility of implanted elements is caused by the defects created during ion implantation, allowing the nucleation of these nanoparticles, of a few nm in diameter. These nanoparticles are composed of aluminium and oxygen, and also chromium. The high-resolution experiments show that their crystallographic structure is that of a non-equilibrium compound of aluminium oxide (cubic γ-Al₂O₃ type). The heat treatment performed after implantation induces the growth of the nano-sized oxides, and a phase change that tends to balance to the equilibrium structure (hexagonal α-Al₂O₃ type). These results on model alloys are fully applicable to industrial materials: indeed ion implantation reproduces the conditions of milling and heat treatments are at equivalent temperatures to those of thermo-mechanical treatments. A mechanism involving the precipitation of nano-oxide dispersed in ODS alloys is proposed in this manuscript based on the obtained experimental results, and the existing literature.

Úloha ADAM17 a dalších metaloproteáz při patologických procesech jater / The role of ADAM17 and other metalloproteases in liver pathological processesŽbodáková, Oľga January 2020 (has links)
1 Abstract Liver fibrosis is a condition described by extensive accumulation of scar tissue in the liver. With further progression, it leads to cirrhosis or even to hepatocellular carcinoma. Liver fibrosis accompanies every chronic liver disease and its prevalence in adult European population is estimated to be around 4%. During my dissertation work, I studied the function of three members of Metzincin family of metalloproteinases - ADAM17, ADAM10 and MMP-19, in liver fibrosis and liver regeneration using mouse genetic models. ADAM17 and ADAM10 are important regulators of signalling pathways which are involved in immune response as well as differentiation. Both proteases are able to cleave ectodomains of their substrates from cell membrane, affecting bioavailability of ligands and functionality of receptors. Several of their substrates are involved in liver pathologies. MMP-19 on the other hand, is a metalloprotease mainly involved in extracellular matrix cleavage, important process in fibrosis development, as well as resolution of fibrosis. Our results demonstrate that ablation of ADAM10 results in increased susceptibility to liver fibrosis in mice, both spontaneous and toxin induced. ADAM10 deficiency affected biliary epithelium, as we detected higher markers of biliary damage in serum of ADAM10 deficient...
