Análise de substituição de ativos com base em variáveis de confiabilidade e sustentabilidade: uma aplicação DEA / Asset replacement analysis based on reliability and sustainability variables: an DEA application

As companhias estão inseridas em um contexto global de preocupação sustentável, onde questões ambientais e sociais acompanham as preocupações econômicas. Faz-se necessário englobar, de alguma forma, nas análises de viabilidade econômica ou ainda em modelagens de Vida Econômica e Reposição de Ativos, variáveis que possam representar aspectos sociais e ambientais. Nesse panorama entra a norma PAS-55 - Publicly Avaiable Specification - 55, publicada pela British Standards Institution, que visa aperfeiçoar o sistema de gestão de ativos físicos de maneira a permitir maiores resultados econômicos, sociais e ambientais, provenientes da utilização dos equipamentos, nas empresas. Os procedimentos previstos na norma PAS-55 sugerem o alinhamento de conhecimentos oriundos da gestão de manutenção, que compõem o arcabouço da Engenharia de Confiabilidade, a conhecimentos de Engenharia Econômica, de maneira a compor ferramentas e métodos para tomar decisões em relação aos ativos físicos de empresas. O objetivo do presente trabalho é propor um modelo de substituição de ativos que considere variáveis de Confiabilidade e Sustentabilidade, juntamente com variáveis financeiras, por meio da Análise Envoltória de Dados. Os resultados apresentam um modelo conceitual de substituição de ativos, com inclusão de variáveis socioambientais e aplicação DEA e, também, um estudo de caso com dados reais que avalia a substituição de um equipamento pertencente a uma empresa produtora de ácido fosfórico. / Companies are placed in a global context of sustainable concern where environmental and social issues accompanying economic concerns. It is necessary to include, in some way, the economic feasibility analysis or in modeling of Economic Life and Asset Replacement, variables that may pose social and environmental aspects. In this scenario enters the PAS-55 standard - Publicly Avaiable Specification - 55, published by the British Standards Institution, which aims to improve the management system of physical assets in order to allow greater economic results, social and environmental issues arising from the use of equipment, in companies. The procedures laid down in PAS-55 standard suggests the alignment of knowledge from maintenance management, which make up the framework of Reliability Engineering, the knowledge of economic engineering in order to make tools and methods to make decisions in relation to physical assets companies. The objective of this study is to propose a model of asset replacement that considers variables Reliability and Sustainability, along with financial variables, using data envelopment analysis. The results present a conceptual model of asset replacement, with the inclusion of social and environmental variables and DEA application and also a case study with real data that assesses the replacement of equipment belonging to a producer of phosphoric acid.

O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar a percepção comportamental das equipes de manutenção de integridade estrutural como ferramenta para evitar acidente no trabalho. A Gestão da Manutenção está engajada numa nova evolução, mesmo uma revolução com novas perspectivas e questões no âmbito das empresas, assim como novos desafios a serem enfrentados por cada um de seus responsáveis. Para tal foi realizada uma análise das mudanças de comportamento das equipes e fatores prioritários que motivaram os empregados a focarem nas atividades de modo a evitar acidentes no trabalho, assim a cada dia o acidente está voltado ao erro humano. A metodologia utilizada foi baseada em uma revisão bibliográfica e na pesquisa de campo. A pesquisa desencadeou em um estudo de caso em uma Indústria do Setor de Mineração, localizada na região Sudeste, Minas Gerais. Foi baseada na coleta de dados, através da aplicação de um questionário estruturado, como principal ferramenta. Os resultados apresentam a percepção das equipes referente ao principio da evolução comportamental em segurança no trabalho. Como conclusão verificou-se que a redução de acidentes no trabalho esta voltada a um processo de mudança de comportamento, onde é possível afirmar que a principal mudança foi a adoção do cuidado genuíno, “cuidar de você, cuidar do outro e deixar que cuidem de você”. / One of the great challenges of modern times is to generate organizational structures that contribute to satisfaction, growth and human development while also contributing to the profitability and productivity of an organization. In order to remain competitive in the market, companies are naturally aware of the need to achieve and deliver satisfactory performance in relation to safety and health of its employees. This study aims to analyze the behavioral perception of structural integrity maintenance teams as a tool to prevent accidents at work. The Maintenance Management is engaged in a new development, even a revolution with new perspectives and issues in the companies, as well as new challenges to be faced by each of its officers. For such an analysis was performed of the behavior change of teams and priority factors that motivate employees to focus on activities to avoid accidents at work, and every day the accident is geared to human error. The methodology used was based on a literature review and field research. The research triggered in a case study in an Industry Mining, located in the Southeast, Minas Gerais. It was based on the collection of data through the application of a structured questionnaire as the main tool. The results show the perception of the teams regarding the principle of behavioral evolution in safety. In conclusion it was found that the reduction of accidents at work is geared to a behavior change process, where it can be said that the main change was the adoption of genuine care, "take care of you, take care of each other and leave to take care of you".

Neste novo paradigma, as equipes de manutenção foram motivadas a preservar estrategicamente o pleno funcionamento organizacional produtivo e não somente preservar os equipamentos ou instalações, mas, efetivamente, desenvolver estratégias eficazes, proporcionando o aumento dos ativos das organizações, buscando desta forma, alcançar as metas do planejamento e controle dos objetivos por elas estabelecidos. Esta pesquisa teve como propósito principal analisar as atividades de manutenção em escolas de nível superior, baseado num estudo de caso do CEFET/RJ. Com base numa revisão de literatura e análise documental, foi estabelecido um referencial teórico que permitiu a investigação das práticas e experiências com as políticas usualmente empregadas na gestão da manutenção. Em seguida foi discutida a proposta de um modelo conceitual de gestão da atividade manutenção, objetiva, eficiente e com qualidade, que poderia ser adotado nas organizações e escolas de nível superior, como é o caso do CEFET/RJ. Foi verificado que as principais falhas na gestão da manutenção no CEFET são devido ao atual tipo de manutenção que é corretivo na sua totalidade. Caso fosse adotada pela Instituição a proposta delineada neste estudo seria, certamente, um expessivo avanço na manutenção das edificações, equipamentos e instalações. / Maintenance as an administrative and operational function plays a vital role in helping organizations to remain operational and profitable, given the difficult scenario of high competitiveness, growing shortages of resources and major changes in socio-political-economic environments that occur in the days Current. In this new paradigm, the maintenance teams were motivated to strategically preserve the full productive organizational functioning and not only preserve the equipment or facilities, but effectively develop effective strategies, increasing the assets of the organizations, thus seeking to achieve the goals of the Planning and control of objectives established by them. The main purpose of this research was to analyze maintenance activities in higher level schools, based on a case study of CEFET / RJ. Based on a literature review and documentary analysis, a theoretical framework was established that allowed the investigation of practices and experiences with the policies usually employed in maintenance management. Next, the proposal of a conceptual model for the management of the maintenance activity, objective, efficient and with quality, that could be adopted in the organizations and schools of higher level, as it is the case of CEFET / RJ was discussed. It was verified that the main failures in the management of the maintenance in the CEFET are due to the current type of maintenance that is corrective in its totality. If adopted by the Institution, the proposal outlined in this study would certainly be an important advance in the maintenance of buildings, equipment and facilities.

On Risk Management of Electrical Distribution Systems and the Impact of Regulations

<p>The Swedish electricity market was de-regulated in 1996, followed by new laws and a new regulation applied to the natural monopolies of electrical distribution systems (EDS). These circumstances have motivated distribution systems operators (DSOs) to introduce more comprehensive analysis methods. The laws, the regulation and additional incentives have been investigated within this work and results from this study can be valuable when developing risk methods or other quantitative methods applied to EDS. This tendency is not unique for Sweden, the results from a comparative study of customer outage compensation laws between Sweden and UK is for example included.</p><p>As a part of investigating these incentives, studies of the Swedish regulation of customer network tariffs have been performed which provide valuable learning when developing regulation models in different countries. The Swedish regulatory model, referred to as the Network Performance Assessment Model (NPAM), was created for one of the first de-regulated electricity markets in the world and has a unique and novel approach. For the first time, an overall presentation of the NPAM has been performed including description of the underlying theory as a part of this work. However, the model has been met by difficulties and the future usage of the model is uncertain. Furthermore, the robustness of the NPAM has been evaluated in two studies with the main conclusion that the NPAM is sensitive toward small variations in input data. Results from these studies are explained theoretically investigating algorithms of the NPAM.</p><p>A pre-study of a project on developing international test systems is presented and this ongoing project aims to be a useful input when developing risk methods. An application study is included with the approach to systematically describe the overall risk management process at a DSO including an evaluation and ideas of future developments. The main objective is to support DSOs in the development of risk management, and to give academic reference material to utilize industry experience. An idea of a risk management classification has been concluded from this application study. The study provides an input to the final objective of a quantitative risk method.</p>

IMPROVE MAINTENANCE EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICIENCY BY USING HISTORICAL BREAKDOWN DATA FROM A CMMS : Exploring the possibilities for CBM in the Manufacturing Industry

Purpose: Explore how historical data from a CMMS can be used in order to improve maintenance effectiveness and efficiency of activities, and investigate the possibilities for CBM in the manufacturing industry in the context of digitalization.  Research questions: RQ1: To what extent could condition-based maintenance or other maintenance types being used in order to predict, prevent or in other way eliminate historical breakdowns/faults?  RQ2: Which significance has an organization's degree of maturity to reduce the number of breakdowns?  Method: A case study was performed at Volvo Construction Equipment Operations in Eskilstuna, who manufactures machinery for the construction industry. The case study was compiled in two phases. Phase one was a quantitative study where raw data were collected from a CMMS and tabulated in order to later perform in-depth analysis. Phase two was designed to collect information that generated a wider understanding of the research area, by performing interviews and observations. A literature study was performed to compare the empirical findings with peer-reviewed information to ensure the quality of the study. The data is compiled and analyzed with an abductive approach. The analysis was followed by a discussion of how the research findings could support identifying possibilities of different maintenance types in the future.  Conclusion: The result showed that using historical breakdown data from a CMMS can be useful in order to identify organization’s current state and what possibilities different maintenance types have to decrease the number of breakdowns. To what extent the breakdowns can be decreased relies not only on the maintenance type but also an organizations maturity level. The case study´s result showed that by combining different maintenance types and increasing degree of maturity, Volvo could decrease the historical breakdowns with 86,5%. By only using CBM with current maturity level, 56% of the historical breakdowns could be predicted. However, to decide how many breakdowns that is cost-effective to prevent and precisely what maintenance type that should be used requires a cost analysis which this study is not covering.

Pilotstudie inom maskinunderhåll på eloxeringsprocess

Syftet med arbetet är att belysa och förbättra maskinunderhållet inom Sweprod. Detta med fokus på eloxeringsprocessen samt att identifiera hur förebyggande underhåll på bästa sätt kan införas på Sweprod. Målet med studien är att ge organisationen en bild av hur det förebyggande underhållet ser ut och att ge dem förslag på vad det finns för förbättringsåtgärder och hur det kan implementeras. Organisationen har, som många andra verksamheter som arbetar inom tillverkning av produkter, många maskiner som kräver någon typ av underhåll. Ytbehandlingsprocessen som studien beskriver, kallas för eloxering och är en process som hanterar ytan på plåtar för att kunna färglägga dempå ett korrekt sätt. Oplanerade driftstopp på maskiner och förseningar i leveranser av produkter inom organisationen har gjort att underhållsprocessen hamnat i fokus. Organisationen reagerar oftare när något händer i form av korrigerande underhåll istället för att planera in förebyggande underhåll eller villkorbaserat underhåll för att minska sannolikheten att något händer. Det har gjort att organisationen vill se över rutinerna kring underhållet med fokus på det förebyggande underhållet. Studien lyfter främst fram olika underhållsstrukturer med inriktning på förebyggande underhåll. Studien hanterar även förslag på hur organisationer på ett effektivt sätt kan arbeta med att implementera eventuella förbättringsområden som identifieras med hjälp av kvalitetsverktyg. Intervjuer med medarbetare och ledning inom organisationen har varit en stor faktor för att identifiera orsaker till att underhållet anses vara bristfälligt. Det har resulterat i att identifiering av grundorsaker inom eloxeringsprocessen har hittats som visar att med relation till olika underhållsstrukturer finns förbättringsmöjligheter inom främst helhetsstrukturen. Det som ligger i fokus är främst underliggande struktur i from av Maintenance Management, Routine Maintenance Program, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance. Inom eloxeringsprocessen finns det också flera kontrollmätningar som inte används till det förebyggande underhållet. Hade processen strukturerats med hjälp av Maintenance Management hade ett villkorbaserat underhåll varit av nytta för processen. Studien som har utförts av författaren har stegvis gett en inblick i vilka orsaker som är bristfälliga inom organisationen. Det har också gett en mer detaljerad inblick i eloxeringsprocessen, där det även identifierades grundorsaker som visar att underhållsstrukturen är en faktor till att förebyggande underhållet anses vara bristfälligt. Studien har också med hjälp av tidigare forskning identifierat angreppsätt för hur strukturen bör se ut inom organisationen med koppling till undersökningen som gjorts. Förslag har också presenterats på hur organisationen på ett effektivt sätt skulle kunna implementera underhållsstrukturen till eloxeringsprocessen med hjälp av en implementeringsprocess.

To remain profitable in this new market environment, rail operators need to transform and acquire new digital capabilities and tools. By digitizing information-intensive processes with an information system, railway companies can reduce loss of operation time and reduce total maintenance costs. At the same time, the limited research exploring information systems in maintenance management has made it challenging for companies wanting to digitize. Significant attention has been devoted to the separate topics, however research overlapping the two areas of study has been inadequate. The thesis aims to contribute with knowledge to bridge this gap in literature by investigating the opportunities a maintenance organization potentially can capture with an information system and the success factors needed to succeed. By conducting the thesis in collaboration with the Swedish railway maintenance company MTR Tech AB the potential uses of an information system have been identified and assessed. Findings indicate that there are three main business opportunities to obtain from an information system: support of the troubleshooting process, better planning of reactive maintenance and enabling the performance of condition-based maintenance. At the same time, the profitability of an information system was found to be directly linked to its degree of utilization. Our findings have therefore allowed us to conclude that the business opportunity to pursue is the one that is most likely to be carried out fully and successfully in the prevailing circumstances. Lastly, the findings conclude that the success factors needed to capture the desired business opportunities are a dedicated project group, clear communication and information sharing, as well as adequate personnel. / Digitalisering har påverkat och transformerat företag över hela världen genom att erbjuda nya värdeproducerande möjligheter. För att bibehålla konkurrenskraft i en föränderlig omvärld måste järnvägsoperatörer transformera sina företag och förvärva nya digitala lösningar och verktyg kopplade till järnvägsteknologier. Genom att digitalisera informationsintensiva processer med hjälp av informationssystem, blir det möjligt för järnvägsföretag att minska förlust av drifttid samt minska den totala underhållskostnaden. Samtidigt har den begränsade forskningen gällande användning av informationssystem i underhållsorganisationer försvårat digitaliseringsförsöken. Litteratur och tidigare studier har behandlat de två ämnena separat, dock har överlappande forskning varit otillräcklig. Denna studie syftar till att bidra med kunskap för att överbrygga gapet i litteraturen genom att undersöka de vinningar en underhållsorganisation kan erhålla med hjälp av ett informationssystem och de framgångsfaktorer som krävs för att uppnå dem. Genom att utföra denna studie i samarbete med det svenska underhållsbolaget MTR Tech AB har de potentiella användningsområdena av ett informationssystem identifierats. De tre huvudsakliga affärsmöjligheterna som kan erhållas från ett informationssystem är: stödjande av felsökningsprocessen, bättre planering av avhjälpande underhåll, samt möjliggörandet av tillståndsbaserat underhåll. Samtidigt har det visat sig att lönsamheten av ett informationssystem är direkt kopplat till dess utnyttjandegrad. Vi har således dragit slutsatsen att den affärsmöjlighet som bör eftersträvas är den som med största sannolikhet kommer att genomföras framgångsrikt under rådande omständigheter. Slutligen visar våra resultat att de framgångsfaktorer som krävs för att uppnå affärsmöjligheterna är en dedikerad projektgrupp, tydlig kommunikation och informationsdelning, samt lämplig personal.

On Risk Management of Electrical Distribution Systems and the Impact of Regulations

The Swedish electricity market was de-regulated in 1996, followed by new laws and a new regulation applied to the natural monopolies of electrical distribution systems (EDS). These circumstances have motivated distribution systems operators (DSOs) to introduce more comprehensive analysis methods. The laws, the regulation and additional incentives have been investigated within this work and results from this study can be valuable when developing risk methods or other quantitative methods applied to EDS. This tendency is not unique for Sweden, the results from a comparative study of customer outage compensation laws between Sweden and UK is for example included. As a part of investigating these incentives, studies of the Swedish regulation of customer network tariffs have been performed which provide valuable learning when developing regulation models in different countries. The Swedish regulatory model, referred to as the Network Performance Assessment Model (NPAM), was created for one of the first de-regulated electricity markets in the world and has a unique and novel approach. For the first time, an overall presentation of the NPAM has been performed including description of the underlying theory as a part of this work. However, the model has been met by difficulties and the future usage of the model is uncertain. Furthermore, the robustness of the NPAM has been evaluated in two studies with the main conclusion that the NPAM is sensitive toward small variations in input data. Results from these studies are explained theoretically investigating algorithms of the NPAM. A pre-study of a project on developing international test systems is presented and this ongoing project aims to be a useful input when developing risk methods. An application study is included with the approach to systematically describe the overall risk management process at a DSO including an evaluation and ideas of future developments. The main objective is to support DSOs in the development of risk management, and to give academic reference material to utilize industry experience. An idea of a risk management classification has been concluded from this application study. The study provides an input to the final objective of a quantitative risk method. / QC 20101125
