Forma e arquetico : um estudo sobre a Mandala / Form and archetype : a study about the Mandala

Ramos, Fernando da Silva 02 September 2006 (has links)
Orientador: Ernesto Giovanni Boccara / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Artes / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-06T02:33:16Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Ramos_FernandodaSilva_M.pdf: 12160068 bytes, checksum: c27cbebb62e538e327704d57bb59d636 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006 / Resumo: Esta dissertação é o resultado da reflexão sobre o significado da mandala, através da abordagem associativa de temas correlatos. A palavra mandala vem do sânscrito, e significa círculo. A dissertação é ilustrada de modo a se reforçar estas idéias / Abstract: This essay resulted from the contemplation of the meaning of Mandala, by associative considerations about other reciprocally related subject-matters. The word ¿Mandala¿ originates from the Sanskrit and means circle. In spite of the thoughts we might have about Mandala, it is certain that it is linked to the artistic events of our kind ever since the times we lived in caves. Due to the nature of its essence, it is said that Mandala are archetypes that symbolize the totality of existence in the universe, inner or outer. From this eventual relationship between material manifestations deriving from non-material causes, arises the conception that some determined forms and dispositions may have a meaning, independently from its temporal-spatial context, that established connections and coherences between the several knowledge areas and life plans. The mathematic and symbolic senses of Geometry are approached as the theory that brings to balance criteria, models, laws and harmony within the qualities of the maxims of transformation dynamics, which is also related to the Mandala concept. In here there is the interest of recognizing that nowadays we experience the collapse of the way of perceiving the world and life. Dichotomizing reality in knowledge areas represents a paradigm to be trespassed by a systemic vision which offers synthesis instead of analysis, associations and union of principles and ideas in the place of scission and fragmentation. Mandalas are found engraved in our ancestral¿s caves, in the religious art, in architecture, in cities¿ delineations, in modern and contemporaneous arts, in children¿s and schizophrenic persons¿ drawings, in design, in the structure of many philosophic knowledge systems, in our relationship with sacred things and in the forms created by reasoning power and by nature. Mandalas are the evidences of the existence of mystery magnitude. This essay is illustrated so as to reinforce these ideas / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

This is a quantitative as well as a qualitative research project, focusing on the quantity and frequency of the meanings and processes under scrutiny. The tool used for the mensuratiion of concentrated attention in four high school groups, totalling 70 teenagers, was Test AC-15. In the concentrated attention test, groups B and C (mandala + test) showed results above the average, while groups D and E (test + mandala) came up with results below the average; thus attesting to the mandala's improvement of concentrated attention. The results also show that circular forms are the most frequent in the mandala's inwards, and that, in the quadrature of the circle, flower and star shapes prevail among the themes found. In the verification and analysis of the groups, it is possible to observe that the drawings, in their majority, are center-aligned, which indicates that the subjects of this research are well-adjusted individuals, with a tendency to be more self-driven and self-centered. The characteristics of drawing styles and pressure, reflecting emotional and mental balance, appear to be normal. Also, the drawings present mostly average aesthetic results, showing signs of intelligence, aptitude for spatial abstraction, and emotional equilibrium. Therefore, it can be said that, in this study, the mandala presented an enriching activity for individuals' psychic life, enhancing concentrated attention in the subjects, and bringing moments of improvement in the inner contact with order and harmony, leading to emotional integration / O objetivo deste estudo consiste em verificar se o desenho da mandala melhora a atenção concentrada em adolescentes em sala de aula e se o mesmo apresenta símbolos de conotação religiosa.

É a própria deidade. / The psychology of the mandala has its importance in the work of Carl Gustav Jung. From it, one can understand the limits of the concepts of Self, God and anima mundi in Jungian theory. To develop this theme, there were clearly influence of gnosticism, alchemy, mystical authors, chinese taoism, kundalini yoga. Jung drank from the fountain of diverse disciplines, and produced with uniqueness and originality the concept of the mandala. The importance is not to admire mandalic images or copy them. In the process of integration between the conscious and the unconscious, these images come naturally, showing integration of the personality, maturity and the pursuit of the wholeness of being. Being, from the psychology of the mandala, is in God. A God who is beyond the personal God. It is the very deity. And from it, the self breaks the egoic barriers and extends itself to the other and to the world, understood here as the anima mundi. To become the self is to find simplicity. It is to understand life by the heart.

Sacred Mandala inquiry: the lived experience of painting a Mandala as research

Johnston, M. Jane 05 September 2019 (has links)
This phenomenological hermeneutic research explores the author’s lived experience of painting a Sacred Mandala over the course of 15 months while focusing on child-loss by adoption. In this dissertation, the structure, process, and mindful practice of Sacred Mandala Inquiry are presented—incorporating methodological considerations, related theories, and illuminated through personal examples. Although the focus in the paper is on an individual Sacred Mandala practice, it is with the understanding that the individual is embedded within a community and world in a web of relationships. Impetus for research often arises from personal lifeworld experience. The Sacred Mandala provides structure and containment for inquiry, for those who are attracted to the form, assisting in bracketing that which has previously been accepted while simultaneously becoming a sacred boundary for the unknown to emerge, protected and witnessed. The practice and process may be taken up by inquirers in the social sciences, humanities, arts and within the community of adult learners. The mindful and embodied painting and journaling practices necessitate the inclusion of processes occurring outside of awareness—hosted in emerging images, dialogues, stories, synchronistic events, myths, metaphors, and poetry; inviting the unconscious forward. Opening both eyes—the rational and imaginal—provides a depth perspective. Both are needed, each is as real as the other, one illuminating the inner world, one illuminating the outer world, in wholeness. Importantly, the meanings embedded within the work continue to resonate, unfold, and inform over time. / Graduate / 2020-08-27

Sanders King, Maria January 2009 (has links)

Border and Identity: Construction of the Thai Community and It¡¦s Challenges

Hsiao, Wen-hsuan 27 August 2009 (has links)
Nominally, Thailand has never been colonized by western imperial states. However, just as Benedict Anderson stated that ¡§it¡¦s borders were colonially determined, therefore, one can see unusually clearly the emergence of a new state-mind within a ¡¥traditional¡¦ structure of political power¡¨. In order to resist the invasion of imperialism, Siam¡¦s rulers bent their attention to build a polity corresponded with the game rule of the Sovereign State System. It required that Siam¡¦s political and cultural boundaries must be overlapping. Then Thainess which was based on the trinitarian mystery of ¡§Nation, Religion, and King¡¨ was created, and became the central value of Thailand¡¦s national identity. During the last one hundred years, Thai rulers impose the Thai nationalism on their people within border. Consequently, there are so many conflicts between the dominant ethnic group and the ethnic minorities while the policy of national assimilation is put into practice by way of national education system, religion, and the mass media. Recently, with the tides of de-territorialization, and de-nationalization, the capability of nation-state as a basic unit of international system is questionable. It¡¦s the best time to rethink the constituents of nation-sate, especially the role of boundary and identity. Undoubtedly, Thailand is the best object of study because of it¡¦s distinctive historical legacy.
