"Vi är här, vi kommer att stanna & vi gör det här tillsammans." : En diskursanalys av tre marginaliserade gruppers tal om utanförskap genom sociala rörelser.

Carlsson, Amina, Moa, Ståhlberg January 2021 (has links)
This study aims to find out how exclusion is expressed among racialized marginalized groups in Sweden. Through a discourse theoretical perspective in combination with Goffman's theory of stigmatization and stereotyping, this study has examined how three marginalized groups expressed their own perceived exclusion; sami, afro-swedes and muslims in Sweden. The material consists of videos that we have transcribed and analyzed, taken from social movements' websites and social media. The processing of the material focused on themes we found; Exclusion, cohesion with the majority group, stereotyping and discrimination.  By studying how these groups express themselves through social movements, the discourse analysis has shed light on how these members feel racialized and excluded from the Swedish society in a number of different ways. A discourse theoretical perspective and Goffman's theory of stigmatization and stereotyping have identified a number of patterns that form the basis for these groups' perceived exclusion. Through Goffman, we have been able to identify that tribal stigma and blemishes on the personal character are two ways in which the marginalized groups express their stigma and exclusion they are exposed to.

"Bazar a zastavárna: etnografie na rozhraní formální a neformální ekonomie" / "Bazaar and pawn shop: ethnography at the interface of formal and informal economy"

Rádl, Michael January 2014 (has links)
Bazaar and pawnshop: etnography at the interface of formal and informal economy Abstract: In this paper I deal with the issue, regarding what actually constitutes bazaar-pawnshop and what this facility means for different groups of customers. Basic research method is auto- ethnography, because best suits in the situation, where I am myself the owner of such shop and during field research I use my own memories and perform both as a direct participant-owner as well as an anthropologist, examining the environment of bazaar. In the empirical part, I offer a brief characterization of different types of customers, depending on the way how they use the bazaar-pawnshop. By describing and analyzing relationships and interactions occurring in the course of business negotiations in the bazaar-pawnshop, I try to show what this type of economy, often referred to as informal or marginal, means for different groups of customers. In particular, I focus on the question how marginalized groups perceive bazaar-pawnshop and how they incorporate it into their lifestyle. On the basis of collected data I infer that they regard the bazaar- pawnshop as a standard economic facility and as an almost necessary part of their everyday life. Keywords: bazaar-pawnshop, purchase, sale, pawn, loan, used goods, customers, marginalized groups

Accessing Housing : How the political-economy of Sweden’s Housing Market impacts the accessibility for marginalized groups in Malmö

Wedepohl, Pauline January 2023 (has links)
Under urban neoliberal policies, housing has become a vehicle for wealth accumulation, detached from its social function, leading to a shortage of adequate and affordable housing. The lack of adequate housing is perceived as an issue of availability. This prevailing perspective dismisses the systematic character of the housing issue and fails to take into account greater questions about power, inequality, and justice in capitalist societies. The purpose of this case study of Malmö is to problematize the access to housing for marginalized groups in the broader frame of the political and economic structures of Sweden’s housing market. The research adopts a qualitative case study design based on 22 semi-structured interviews. The findings answer the research question how is access to the housing market in Malmö limited for marginalized groups? and will be placed within the framework of The Radical Right to Housing and the context of Sweden’s political-economy. Based on the results this research argues that despite limited accessibility mostly shows in economic disadvantage for the marginalized groups, it is caused by Sweden’s social, political and economic structures. Highlighting that housing is a political-economic problem, deeply embedded within class structures, gender, age, ethnicity and other power dimensions. In the broader context of demanding a radical right to housing, the results show that it requires a transformation of Sweden’s political-economic structures. Regarding a decommodification of housing, a transformation of capitalism and transformative changes in state action concerning immigration, education, and active gender equality policies. Thereby, housing could serve as a tool to create more equality in cities by addressing and fighting the structures of class society, gender, age, ethnicity and other power dimensions.
