PMS Objekt vs ERAPAVE-ME : Design of pavement / PMS Objekt vs ERAPAVE-ME : Dimensionering av överbyggnader

Borhani Khomami, Arash, Adel Pour, Jonas January 2020 (has links)
There are two types of superstructures in superstructure design, rigid and flexible. Rigid superstructures have higher load-bearing capacity than flexible superstructures. In Sweden, rigid superstructures are used for slow and heavy traffic roads such as bus stations and parking lots. A common example of rigid superstructures is cement-bound superstructures that have cement-bound layers instead of bitumen. Flexible superstructures can be bitumen bonded layers or unbound structures. The program PMS Object (Pavement Management Systems) is used in Sweden for designing highway constructions, new as well as maintenance / reinforcement of existing highways. PMS Object is based on linear elastic theory and the calculation methods are based on analytical - empirical dimensioning method. According to TRVK, the calculation method only works for the conditions and material that the designer chose during the design process. This makes it difficult for the designer when the material is to be replaced. The National Road & Transport Research Institute "VTI" started the process to develop a new program based on multilayer elastic theory and the calculation method is based on a mechanical analytical method. This means there are more alternatives for input data in the form of climate data as well as more models for calculating traffic loads and structures compared to when using the analytical - empirical dimensioning model PMS Object. The purpose of this thesis is to compare two highway design programs, PMS Object and ERAPAVE. During this work, we have studied the models and methods on which the software is based. For three realistic roads results are presented, compared, and discussed to determine in what way the software differ. The result shows that ERAPAVE shows more output, which gives you a better overall picture of the project. The program used more in-depth data and other models than PMS object. In ERAPAVE you can calculate the track depth development for all layers. PMS assumes that the rutting comes from the terrace, not from other layers. ERAPAVE can characterize traffic in different ways as standard axels or more detailed alternatives such as WIM data and that program considers the traffic's lateral distribution and more.

The Segmentation Process and its Influence on Structure in the Malheur Me Bat Masses of Obrecht and Josquin

Jarzombek, Ralph 12 1900 (has links)
This study examines in detail the various aspects of the segmentation process as applied by Obrecht and Josquin to the chanson Malheur me bat, especially the effect of this process on the structure of each composer's respective mass. Although musical aspects such as cadences and mode have varying degrees of influence on the structure of these two masses, the primary influence is the establishment of proportional relationships that occur as a result of the segmentation process. Sources of previous music research frequently point out that Obrecht's Mass utilizes both the Phrygian and Aeolian modes, while in Josquin's Mass the Phrygian mode is the firmly established mode throughout. Since segments in Obrecht's Mass are usually not connected to one another, strong cadences frequently occur at the end of the segments throughout. On the other hand, since the segments in Josquin's Mass are usually connected to one another, weak internal cadences frequently occur throughout, with strong cadences reserved for the end of sections.

Exploring Unease : A Study of How Unease is Produced in Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go

Greijdanus, Wouter January 2014 (has links)
This paper deals with the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and explores the feeling of unease established by the author. The theoretical framework for this paper is based on questions of humanity and thus makes use of existentialism as established by Sartre and Kierkegaard. Initially the essay explores how the setting of the novel helps establish a familiar world with unfamiliar elements. After that questions of humanity are raised and how these questions relate to the clones by showing that the clones have human qualities yet are not treated as human. These questions are expanded in the following part about ethical issues and it is shown that the reader is tempted by the author to cross certain ethical boundaries leading to a feeling of unease. Special attention is given to freedom of choice in the third part of the analysis and it is shown how the choices of the clones are very limited, especially if they are considered human. The fourth part then discusses the narrative perspective and how the narrator Kathy H. is used by the author to establish a connection and a perception of the narrator as human.

From a “Lazy Boy” to the Open Sea. The journey of making “Call Me Cappy”

Holzinger, Maja M 18 December 2014 (has links)
In this paper I will describe and analyze the process of creating my thesis film, Call Me Cappy. I will start with stating the theme and discuss each aspect of this process in relation to the theme that originated this project. I will detail my biggest challenges and struggles. I will also try to show how the knowledge I absorbed through attending the graduate film program, and the literature I have read, has served my journey as a filmmaker. In the end, I will attempt to evaluate whether my theme found its full expression through this film. The final analysis will determine how well I was able to incorporate all the aspects of storytelling into creating a coherent piece of work.

The Complexity of Love and Friendship in Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go:An Actantial Analysis / Kärlekens och vänskapens komplexitet i Kazuo Ishiguros Never Let Me Go:en aktant analys

Quach, Melissa January 2017 (has links)
The present essay undertakes a structuralist analysis of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel Never Let Me Go, drawing upon the actantial analysis of plot developed by A. J. Greimas, as developed by Louis Hébert. My central claim is that the plot revolves around the protagonist's contradictory desire to find love with her childhood friend Tommy, while at the same time retaining her friendship with another childhood friend, Ruth. The essay suggests that this contradiction contributes to the complex plot where the characters' actantial functions shift frequently. Furthermore, the essay makes a distinction between two different perspectives, namely Kathy's as protagonist, and Kathy's as narrator. This distinction elucidates how narration in Never Let Me Go affects the plot.

Co-design i praktiken : en utvärdering av e-Me projektet / Co-design in action : an evaluation of the e-Me project

Smedberg, Rasmus, Åkesson, Madeleine January 2007 (has links)

Evaluating a Student Leadership Program's Impact on Elementary Students' Behavior and Academic Achievement

Caracelo, Stephanie 01 January 2016 (has links)
Faculty members at a rural elementary school in a southeastern U.S. state have implemented a student leadership program called Leader in Me (LIM) in order to address increased behavioral disruptions and declining academic achievement scores and also better prepare students for the workforce. To determine the efficacy of the intervention, a mixed methods bounded case study of LIM was conducted. Watson's and Hull's theories of behaviorism support the objectives of the program. The focus of the research questions was on determining whether students' behavior, academic achievement, and leadership skills had changed based on their participation in the program. Quantitative data consisted of standardized test scores in the areas of reading and mathematics, administrative records, and a faculty survey. Qualitative data consisted of 10 interviews, which were conducted with a stratified purposeful sample of 3rd through 5th grade teachers participating in the program at the school. Quantitative data were analyzed using analysis of variance while qualitative data were coded and analyzed for common themes. Using these methods, a significant decrease in the instances of negative classroom behaviors was noted in relation to an increase in leadership behaviors of students in the LIM program. Interview data revealed the presence of a positive culture of leadership and learning in the classroom. Based on study findings, a policy recommendation paper advocating adoption of the leadership program was created. Adoption of the LIM program may help educators in better preparing students to be responsible individuals who use their leadership skills to positively impact their own learning and school and community cultures.
