Luxury fashion and nostalgia : A study from a marketing perspective

Tasapuro, Malin, Johansson, Pontus January 2022 (has links)
Using a qualitative semiotic analysis and a quantitative netnographic approach, this mixed method study seeks to examine the use of nostalgic marketing within the field of luxury fashion advertising. The focal point of the study focused on material from online video content posted by four European luxury fashion brands between the years 2020 and 2022, as well as commentary feedback from their followers on social media platforms Instagram and Youtube. Basing our research on previous literature regarding both nostalgia and luxury fashion marketing individually, along with a theoretical framework including theory of semiotics, theory of representation, mythology and luxury branding, the aim was to establish whether or not the selected brands were successful in inducing nostalgic emotions in their viewers. This study offers insights into marketing perspectives, branding strategies and how to build brand equity through attachment and loyalty towards luxury fashion brands through the use of nostalgia. By analysing four luxury brands, three of which can be considered as heritage brands and the forth being newly-established on the market, and juxtaposing them against each other to compare their cultural, symbolic and nostalgic elements included in their advertising video campaigns and study their individual effectiveness. Throughout our research, it was indicated that the symbolic value within imagery must be enhanced, specifically in regards to luxury fashion brands, for consumers to have positive impressions of the brand and be willing to purchase from the brand. Therefore, luxury fashion brands continuously try to deliver dream-like scenarios in order to fulfil consumers’ desires and luxury experiences.

Fair Trade Practices In Contemporary Bangladeshi Society: The Case Of Aarong

Hasan, Fadia 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Community, as traditionally conceptualized, has been an issue of widespread conversation and analysis. The conversation on community is extended here by engaging in the business practice of fair trade, which boasts of being an ethical entrepreneurial force that places its ideological focus on creating sustainable and fair communities that directly connects producers and consumers. Fair trade claims to bridge wage discrepancies, retailers goals and consumer concerns for social and environmental responsibility, however, the extent to which it is indeed effective in creating such a sustainable community in varied cultural and economic contexts is explored and analyzed in this project. The growing presence of “alternative” business spaces, specifically fair-trade organizations in Bangladesh, are focused on in this project, to study their role in community building, one that deviates from a so-called mainstream “capitalocentric” consumer society development model. Global fair-trade organizations like Aarong, Bangladesh and Bibi Productions that are located (and originated) outside the Global North/West are investigated and analyzed. Through this qualitative research project, the meanings and values that people attach to consuming products that stem from a production process that very self-consciously sets itself apart in its ethical production practices is investigated. Through an exploration of Fair-Trade Consumer Culture in Bangladesh, the fixed notion of the trade concept is challenged and the need for a new framework that is more inclusive and appropriate to the geo-political context of Bangladesh emerges, one that can revolutionize the applicability of the term beyond its current state.

A Survey of the Development of Meaning of Selected Concepts in Children: Grades One through Twelve

Smith, Carol Erickson 01 June 1968 (has links)
The purpose of the present study was to detect the existence of a general pattern in the development of meaning over time, and if such a pattern existed, to compare it with certain points in Jean Piaget's theory of intelligence and in a theory concept formation as suggested by Lev Vygotsky.

The Influence of Risk Taking on Student Creation of Mathematical Meaning: Contextual Risk Theory

Houghtaling, Erin Nicole 16 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The primary concerns of mathematics educators are learning and teaching mathematics. It is, therefore, natural to ask "what implications and benefits might there be if learning were perceived as a risk-taking event?" (Atkinson, 1957, p. 266). The underlying motivation of this study is to analyze the risks students take in the mathematics classroom and how risk influences student creation of meaning and development of understanding. I define risk in the mathematics classroom to be any observable act that entails uncertain outcome. The research presented here focuses on a table of four students: Andrew, Carina, Kam, and Mark as they grapple with the mathematical uncertainties inherent in the Ticket Line Task. In analyzing student work and development of mathematical understanding, I identify risks that students take and the benefits they claim result from doing so. Contextualized Risk Theory (CRT) is introduced to improve our understanding of the risks students take in learning mathematics in a student-centered classroom where students exercise personal agency in mathematical problem solving. Findings include characterization of risks these students took, significant student mathematical activity, student enjoyment of their work, student development of personal understanding of purposes and meanings of specific mathematics, and students achieving mathematical success as defined by the researcher and the participants.

Advancing spirituality in occupational therapy: an educational program for practitioners

Wallace, Suzanne 24 October 2018 (has links)
Spirituality, defined as the way individuals seek and express meaning and purpose; and the way they experience their connectedness to the moment, to self, to others, to nature and to the significant or sacred (Puchalski,et al, 2009) has proven benefits to the health of people across the lifespan (Huguelet, 2011) and is supported by policy papers of the UN and the WHO. Spirituality, expressed through meaningful activity, naturally falls within the domain of all occupational therapy practice, and is described as a central occupational component in occupational performance models such as the AOTA PF (2009) and the CMOP-E.(Polatajko, Townsend, & Craik, 2007). However barriers to including spirituality into occupational therapy interventions include lack of training (Paal et al 2015; Kirsh, 2001), confidence and skills (Egan, 2003; Mthembu, 2015) and perception of ambiguity (Bennett et al 2013; Unruh et al 2002) and irrelevancy (Collins, 2009). Previous remediation to the gap between theory and practice of spirituality include utilising activity such as art, music, gardening, and many others (Ayers-Hayth, 2015) with the assumption that these activities have inherent spiritual qualities when they may not be meaningful to the individual. This doctoral project proposes an educational program to assist practitioners increase their knowledge and skills in relation to spirituality in occupational therapy. DevOTed is a self-paced multi-faceted workbook based on best practices in adult education ( Dunst,& Trivette, 2009) and spiritual education (Paal et al., 2015). DevOTed combines opportunities for building knowledge and skills and self-reflections and case studies from a wide range of practice areas to guide the development of the clinician’s clinical reasoning. Effectiveness will be evaluated using a participant-oriented model and include feedback, virtual discussion content and client satisfaction measures. Dissemination will utilise electronic media, person-to-person contact and written information. The devOTed program offers a theory and evidence-based learning opportunity and unique opportunity for the occupational therapy profession to seamlessly and simply integrate spirituality into day-to-day interventions in any area of practice and by doing so, continue to enact its commitment to client-centered care.

Mening i Livet kontra Känsla av Sammanhang

de Colli, Marie January 2023 (has links)
I studien ingick 191 universitetsstudenter varav 116 kvinnor.
