"Et in Arcadia ego" : En konstvetenskaplig studie av Arkadien i bildmotiv / "Et in Arcadia ego" : An art science study of Arcadia in pictorial motifsKronberg, Tove January 2024 (has links)
This thesis aims to examine how the philosophy of Arcadia is portrayed compared to three paintings from Nationalmuseums exhibition Arkadien: ett förlorat paradis? Firstly, the essay creates a frame for what Arcadia should look like and communicate by analyzing three established Arcadia-motifs with the same title, Et in Arcadia ego by Nicolas Poussin from 1638 and 1627, and Guercino from ca 1620. The framework shows that Arcadia contains three dominating themes, which are the presence of antiquity, the pastoral ideal and the presence of Death. The framework also shows that Arcadia aims to have a clear communication with the viewer by using direct symbols and double linguistic messages. Secondly, the essay compares Poussins and Guercino's Arcadia with Nationalmuseums Claude Lorrains Landskap med Argus som vaktar Io (ca 1644–1645), Francois Només (1593-ca 1645) Trojas brand med Aeneas och Anchises flykt (u.å) and Thomas Blanchets Kleobis och Biton (1650). The results are that Nationalmuseum has a different view of Arcadia compared to Poussin and Guercino, and uses it as an elastic concept, which can categorize paintings that don't fully communicate Arcadia's original thoughts and ideas as truthfully Arcadia-motifs.

Fysiskt eller digitalt? : En studie om konsolanvändarnas inställning till det digitala och fysiska spelformatet / Physical or digital? : A study on console users attitude towards the dig- ital and physical game formatWoch, Tomasz, Agdelius, David January 2013 (has links)
Downloadable games are more common these days than they were a decade ago. The prowess of broadband has made it possible to quickly download games and the market for digital games is growing steady. In this paper we study if the attitude towards digital console games differentiates from physical console games due to the growing digital market. We present and discuss console users’ attitude towards digital and physical games and their perceived value. From the quantitative studies performed we show that people prefer physical console games over digital, even though the digital market is on a steady climb. Based on the results we found the most common cause for the preference of physical copies was the possibilities the physical format entailed, such as trad- ing, exhibiting, refunding or borrowing.

Smrt očima novoanglických puritánů / The Puritan view of death: attitudes toward death and dying in Puritan New EnglandHolubová, Petra January 2011 (has links)
The Puritan attitude toward death in seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century New England was ambivalent and contained both terror at the possibility of eternal damnation and hope for deliverance. The joyful theme of the migratio ad Dominum resonated with the Saints only at times when they were convinced divine grace was actively working in their lives, but when they saw they were backsliding, the horror of death prevailed. Puritan anxiety about death was caused by tensions inherent in the doctrine of predestination, which implied man's dependence on God's inscrutability, and in the doctrine of assurance, which implied that self-doubt was more desirable than full assurance of salvation. What complicated any verification of the presence of grace was man's endless potential for self-deception. Memento mori gave urgency to the Puritan work ethic and the effective use of time. The anxiety about one's destiny began in early childhood when death and its ensuing horrors for the depraved were used as a means of religious instruction to provoke spiritual precocity and conversion. This early immersion into the discourse about death has been erroneously interpreted as a proof of the non-existence of childhood in Puritan New England. Deathbed scenes depicted in Puritan spiritual biographies were designed as examples...
