Abd-Elrazak, Loula January 2012 (has links)

Grandcamp, Gabrielle 24 November 2017 (has links)
The forty "Miracles de Nostre Dame par personnages" stand for the immense majority of the dramatic French-language corpus of the fourteenth century. Despite this major historical importance, these plays have not been the subject of a specific literary study. Despised for the lack of poetic legitimacy attributed to medieval theater in general and for their apparent simplicity, these dramas present many similarities which show the evidence of the stylistic homogeneity of the corpus. Considering in turns the corpus as a text, a show and a book, this work aims to reveal the dramaturgical project behind the plays. First of all, this study intends to identify the implicit laws of the collection. A synchronic analysis allows to identify the structural and discursive laws of the corpus, while a diachronic study reveal its laws of composition, created by succesives scenic experiences. Finally, the specificity of the dramatic Miracle appears to be based on this constant dialogue between the stage and its audience. This close relationship continues as the pieces move from the stage space to the book space. Dramas, stagings and texts, these forty miraculous stories offer the evidence of the deep coherence of their successive transpositions. As these plays are proofs of the brotherhoods' educational vocation, they turn out to be amazing theater objects, whose aesthetic significance has not quite extinguished.

Healing Miracles in Ancient Jewish and Early Christian Literature

Tompkins, Lora E. 05 1900 (has links)
Jesus was a healer, but what may not be as obvious is that he started a legacy of healing. He passed on his skills and abilities to his followers at least three times. Though not as frequently, they continued to heal through the Book of Acts. The legacy continued in the Apocryphal Acts and other apocryphal materials spanning the early centuries of the common era. Secondary literature looks at modern scholarship and leans heavily into Rabbinic literature. Up to this point, other English-language works in healing have sorely lacked luster in providing. The exploration of the healing legacy of Jesus shifted to meet the skills and needs of the healers, patients, and communities involved. Further, the healings had a substantive resultant impact on various levels of socioeconomics for the parties, which is explored by reexamining each group type of healings, from lameness and paralytics to possession and resurrection, and more. The hope is that taking a holistic approach to these healings as possible will allow readers a new way of experiencing the early common era and these events that permeated everyone's lives at one time or another.

Gossip's role in constituting Jesus as a shamanic figure in John's gospel

Daniels, John William 11 1900 (has links)
Reading the Fourth Gospel, one is struck by the amount of talk about Jesus. Many of the reports in John describing such talk reflect the social process of gossip in concert with other processes and dynamics involved in constituting social personages in the ancient Mediterranean world. Although there have been a few general treatments of gossip in the New Testament, none have focused on the subject of the gossip in John’s gospel, Jesus, the generative cause of the emergence of gossip traditions. The aim of this research project is to explore how gossip is involved in constituting Jesus as a shamanic figure in the Fourth Gospel. Building on the research of Pieter F. Craffert, and thus beginning with understanding Jesus as a shamanic figure, a viable framework for identifying and explaining features and functions of gossip is constructed after considering sociolinguistic studies and a number of ethnographies of extant traditional cultures of the Mediterranean. The framework is then brought to bear on texts in the Fourth Gospel reporting or describing gossip, in order to see how gossip contributes to constituting Jesus as a shamanic figure. As a result, this research offers a significant contribution to New Testament studies as it 1) represents an exploration and appropriation of gossip that has scarcely been exploited in the field, 2) provides a viable theoretical framework for positioning gossip vis-à-vis other pivotal first-century Mediterranean social values and processes, 3) models a new way to see and understand John’s gospel, and 4) is suggestive of an alternative to the reigning paradigm of conventional historical Jesus research in that it involves linking literary features about oral phenomena in John to a historically plausible figure thoroughly embedded in his social, cultural, and historical world. / New Testament / D.Th. Sepekovské Písně Mariánské / Marian Songs of Sepekov

Farová, Marie January 2015 (has links)
The Marian songs of Sepekov is the title for a handwritten Hymnal, which nobody comprehensivly examined and never publish. I discovered this manuscript when I was researching materials for my Bacherol thesis. The hymnal contains 489 czech-language pages from which I composed 43 songs with the organs accompaniment or songs in a four-part adjustment. The transcript od melodic line, next processing of melody and composition of polyphony give the readers an insight into the period of the formation of manuscript and it zooms miracles for which the manuscript was created. The historical events, which were accured in 18th century in Sepekov and were an integral part of the life of people from sepekov, are component of Marian songs. The whole Hymnal is built on devotion, supplication, prayers and the love of the pilgrims to Pana Marie from Sepekov. The pilgrimages, which they performed to this marian's place, were a seal of approval of their belief and it was culmination of their spiritual life for most of them.

It seeks to show the importance of faith and devotion of hundreds of devotees who inhabit the forests and towns in the Acre River Valley. It also intends to present the various manners those rubber tappers have found to overcome daily difficulties, such as diseases, dangers in the forest, attacks by poisonous animals, and falls from trees or bridges. This research, though grounded in popular religiousness, shows the fragility or the mere state of abandonment of the in-forest inhabitants, and it thus justifies the search to understand the reasons that lead them to turn to faith and popular devotion in order to find ways to overcome daily difficulties and the absence of government assistance. It entertains the hypothesis that those devotees find meaning and reason to life through their faith in Santa Raimunda (Saint Raimunda), and in the protection She offers. Interviews and direct contacts with them during pilgrimages in the varadouros (small roads in rubber plantations), beads, and homage at Santa Raimunda´s tomb gave us the opportunity to gather rich and important data. The results show that the devotion to Santa Raimunda do Bom Sucesso (Saint Raimunda of Good Success) kept and still keeps the devotees men and women ready for their daily struggles, giving meaning to their lives and renewing their hopes. Devotion provided them strength to live in the rubber plantations as long as possible, and continues to support their lives in the periphery of the capital city of Rio Branco / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a trajetória devocional de seringueiros do vale do rio Acre, que ao longo de várias décadas conseguiram ressignificar a devoção popular que trouxeram do nordeste brasileiro, dando assim um novo sentido para suas vidas, por meio da fé.

An academic study on this book is justified considering its worldwide impact, two and a half million copies of this book having been sold to the present date. The hypothesis of this dissertation is that “A Course in Miracles” could be regarded as a gnostic work, when considered the fundamental similarities between the religious movement of the beginning of the Christian era and this book. Aiming at demonstrating the common points between both, Hans Jonas and Kurt Rudolph are resorted to, as theoretical reference regarding gnosticism, and Kenneth Wapnick, as reference to the analysis of “A Course in Miracles” / A presente dissertação apresenta a obra “Um Curso em Milagres”, publicada pela primeira vez em 1976 pela Foundation for Inner Peace (Fundação para a Paz Interior) nos Estados Unidos.

Lagré, Mårten January 2012 (has links)
