Larsson, Lise-Lott January 2019 (has links)
Data analyserades deskriptivt i SPSS. / Background: Studies show that mobile phones are used in the operating rooms for both service-related and private use, and the advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of mobile phones in the healthcare sector are described. Purpose: To describe and map the use of service phones and staff's private mobile phones in the operating rooms. Method: Quantitative approach, the design is a descriptive crosssectional study with 40 structured observations in the operating rooms and a questionnaire survey, which was answered by 33 people. The participants were anesthetic nurses, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses and assistant nurses. Data was analyzed descriptively in SPSS. Result: The observations in the operating rooms showed that of 477 phone uses, 287 (60.2%) were private mobile phones and 190 (39.8%) service phones. The adherence to basal hygiene guidelines before and after telephone use, n = 477, was 93 (19.4%) and 103 (21.5%), respectively. The survey showed that 9 (27.2%) of the participants experienced daily that the use of private mobile phones disturbed team members in the operating rooms. Eight (24, 2%) of participants experienced daily, 7 (21.7%) weekly, employees became less concentrated due to the use of private cell phones. Conclusion: Increased compliance with basic hand hygiene, designing guidelines regarding the use of private mobile phones in the operating rooms and a discussion regarding what is ethically correct in relation to the patients can be considered essential. Further studies are needed for continued examination of the use and management of mobile phones in the operating rooms.

Maternal health in the global south : A study to investigate the empowerment of mHealth initiatives

Falk, Sara January 2020 (has links)
The fifth SDG aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. In this research, mHealth, as in mobile phones to improve maternal health outcomes, will be analyzed. In remote areas where healthcare may not provide care to the extent needed, these technological innovations may be of great importance. MOTECH, a mHealth initiative, promises empowerment, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency and will be analyzed further. The promise of empowerment will be the primary aim of this research and will be the center of attention, with the empowerment theory as a tool in the investigation. Technoscience feminism with a postcolonial perspective will be additional analytical tools to comprehend mHealth and maternal health in the global South. Altogether, the lenses of observation will analyze how gender inequalities connect with technology depending on location.  Moreover, the research will contain a discussion of the concept of liberal empowerment and liberating empowerment. Cecília M.B. Sardenberg (2008) argues that liberal empowerment is conceptualized as a “gift” that can be “donated.” The aforementioned does not work towards a process of group organizing and the building of self-esteem. Contradictions of empowerment are expressed through the debate between individual and collective empowerment. The individual perspective emphasizes cognitive processes, focuses on independence and autonomy, and does not consider the power structures and everyday practices. Liberating empowerment brings sociopolitical dimensions to light but also the psychological processes at play. The sociopolitical and psychological dimensions further enable individuals to understand their personal problems’ political dimensions and act upon them (Sardenberg 2008:22-24). This research indicates that the project contributes to liberal empowerment and lacks feminist perspectives to satisfy the targeted group.

Kontaminering av mikroorganismer på hälso- och sjukvårdspersonalens mobiltelefoner : En allmän litteraturstudie / Contamination of microorganisms on the healthcare workers mobile phones

Hasselblad, Wilma, Johansson, Kajsa January 2019 (has links)
The use of mobile phones by healthcare workers in healthcare settings has become increasingly common. Research shows that healthcare workers use their mobile phones within near contact with patients in order to facilitate their work. Therefor the aim of this candidate essay was to investigate the presence of microorganisms as a result of the lack of cleaning routines of the healthcare workers mobile phones. The study is written as a general literature study. Data collection was done through specific searches in the databases CINAHL and PubMed. Searches in the two databases finally resulted in 13 articles, which are the basis for the result in this study. The result shows that coagulasenegative staphylococcus and enterobacteria was the most occuring microorganisms on the healthcare workers mobile phones. In addition microorganisms as viruses like respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus (AV) was detected on the healthcare workers mobile phones. The result also shows deficiencies regarding the cleaning of the mobile phones where the majority of the mobile phones were never cleaned.

Recommender System for mobile subscriber provisioning.

Sibanda, Elias Mbongeni 04 1900 (has links)
M. Tech. (Department of Information and Communication Technology, Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences) Vaal University of Technology. / Mobile phone recommendation systems are of great importance for mobile operators to achieve a profit. In a user-derived market, the number of contract users and contract phones is especially significant for mobile service operators. The tremendous growth in the number of available mobile cellular telephone contracts necessitates the need for a recommender system to help users discover suitable contracts on the basis of their usage patterns. Recommender systems recommend items to users and their primary purpose is to increase sales and recommend items that are predicted to be suitable for individual users. There are two commonly used techniques in developing recommender systems including collaborative- and content-based filtering. Recommender systems make their recommendations based on data that is available on the system. These systems have gained popularity over the years and they have been adopted in many domains. In this study a recommender system for mobile subscriber provisioning was developed using a hybrid J48 and kmeans algorithms. The J48 algorithm was used for classifying subscribers per usage stream and then k-means was used to cluster all the subscribers of similar usage patterns. The algorithms were selected after being compared with other algorithms and the two performed best in their categories. The clustering algorithm, k-means, was able to cluster the sample data as follows: Cluster 0 contained 48% (1621) of the subscribers cluster 1 contained 42% (1423) subscribers, cluster 2 contained 8% (272) subscribers and lastly cluster 3 contained 74 subscribers representing 2% of the population and the run time of k-means is faster than that of EM. The classification algorithm j48 performed at an average of 99.98% for correctly classifying instances and this was higher than the Naïve Bayes, zeroR and MLP algorithms. The developed recommender system was able to successfully recommend contract packages to subscribers. A precision-recall curve was produced, and it showed good performance of the system. This study successfully highlighted the challenges in recommender systems, and showed that a hybrid system was better able to recommend products to the mobile subscribers.

The presence of social media in the Swedish classroom. A study of social media usage and its possible effects during classroom instruction

Parmach, Michael January 2017 (has links)
This research aimed to test the hypothesis that mobile phone and social media usage by students during classroom instruction negatively affected academic performance. I believed students who claimed they often followed social media during lessons would have lower overall grade averages and have entered high school with fewer points than students who did not often use social media during lessons. Goals were to examine the debate on mobile phones and social media usage in school and conduct a quantitative self-report study. Questionnaires were distributed to 64 students and 65 teachers at a secondary school in Malmö, Sweden inquiring into the frequency of and attitudes towards social media usage during classroom instruction. The study looked for correlations between such usage, the number of points with which a student entered high school and their current overall grade average. Would frequent usage of social media during lessons lead to a greater tendency for lower grades? Results were mixed. Student groups who did not use a mobile or social media during lessons believed they had higher overall grades than groups who used a mobile or social media regardless of gender, though the believed difference was higher for females than males. Utilizing a contrived quality point system, further data analysis concluded that females who used a mobile/social media during lessons entered high school with an average of 4.8% more points than those who did not, while the opposite was true for the male groups. Males who stated they used a mobile or social media during lessons entered high school with an average of 4.4% fewer points than males who did not use such media. In general, more females used mobiles or social media in class, were more often unsure exactly how often they used them and outnumbered males (11:1) in stating they text or chat during “most” lessons.

Mobile Phone Utilization in Women’s Community-Based Organizations to Promote Empowerment

WIKMAN, FRIDA January 2016 (has links)
There is a growing recognition that community-based organizations (CBOs) show greater success than other development organizations in promoting empowerment. It has also been acknowledged that information and communication technology (ICT) can be a powerful tool for development. In pursuit of empowerment of women, there is an interest to further study CBOs and ICT, and how they can be combined to take further steps forward. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how mobile phones can be utilized in women's community-based organizations to promote empowerment, conducted as a case study on a women's CBO in Bangalore, India. The study shows that the main organizational characteristics that promote empowerment in CBOs are the participatory approach and the fostering of sense of community. Mobile phones constitute a valuable tool for enhancing these characteristics. However, the study also shows that the digital gender divide and ICT related risks that women face also have organizational implications that have to be considered by CBOs when utilizing ICT.

Assessing the Impact of Digital Health Technologies on Maternal Health Care in Sub-Saharan Africa

Tadele, Samerawit 01 January 2019 (has links)
Maternal morbidity and mortality are prevalent issues worldwide that profoundly affects low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Africa. Estimates vary, but by the end of 2015, at least 300,000 women died in LMICs due to preventable pregnancy and childbirth conditions. Pregnant women die from complications that could be detected and managed if they were able to receive early access to necessary health interventions. Mobile technology is increasingly common across the globe, including LMICs, and incorporating digital health technologies, especially mobile phone (mHealth) programs, can offer a possible solution to morbidity and mortality related to pregnancy. A literature review analyzing the impact of mHealth programs on maternal health was conducted from various online databases. Nineteen articles that were published in the last ten years and contained technology-based interventions used for maternal health were reviewed. Inclusion criteria included countries listed as low-income and middle-income in the 2017 World Bank list of economies. The studies suggest mHealth programs have the potential to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality by increasing knowledge of safe health practices for pregnant women, community health workers, and traditional birth attendants. Mobile health technology also provides crucial information to providers when complications arise and can improve health facility utilization leading to increased deliveries with skilled birth attendants. This reinforces the need for more mHealth initiatives to be implemented in LMICs, addressing the barriers and community characteristics to positively impact and reduce maternal death in these settings.
