Self-Heating Effect Alleviation for post-Moore Era Channel MaterialsPai-Ying Liao (14008656) 25 October 2022 (has links)

As the miniaturization of the transistors in integrated circuits approaches the atomic scale limit, novel materials with exceptional performance are desired. Moreover, to conduct enough current with an ultrathin and small-scale body, high drain current density is preferably required. Nevertheless, devices may suffer seriously from self-heating effect (SHE) with high drain bias and current if the generated heat cannot be dissipated efficiently. In this thesis, we introduce two material systems and several techniques to accomplish the demand without SHE. Tellurium, as a van der Waals material composed by atomic helical chains, is able to realize its one-dimensional structure. We illustrate that the cross-sectional current density of 150 MA/cm2 is achieved through boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) encapsulation without SHE due to the superior thermal conductivity of BN. With the nanotube encapsulation technique applied, one-dimensional tellurium nanowire transistors with diameter down to 2 nm are realized as well, and single tellurium atomic chain is isolated. Furthermore, atomic-layer-deposited indium oxide (In2O3) as thin-film transistors exhibit even better current carrying capacity. Through co-optimization of their electrical and thermal performance, drain current up to 4.3 mA/μm is achieved with a 1.9-nm-thick body without SHE. The alleviation of SHE is due to a) the high thermal conductivity of the substrate assisting on efficiently dissipating the generated thermal energy, b) SHE avoidance with short-pulse measurement, and c) interface engineering between the channel stack and the substrate. These two material systems may be the solid solution to the desire of high current density transistors in the post-Moore era.

Innovation analysis of the adoption of BIM using Innovation theories / Innovationsanalys av antagandet av BIM med hjälp av InnovationsteorierCHINNAPANDIAN, ANAND, BABAEI, MOHAMMAD January 2020 (has links)
When compared to other industries, the construction industry has been slow to adopt digital technologies. BIM stands for Building Information Modeling (hereon referred to as BIM) and it represents a turning point when it comes to digitalization in the AEC sector. Despite BIM’s proven potential to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of construction projects, widescale adoption, and implementation of construction projects using BIM hasn’t happened yet. This research aims to conduct an innovation analysis of adoption of BIM in Europe using innovation theories such as Rogers’s diffusion theory and Crossing the Chasm by Moore. We hope the reader will have an understanding of the various adoption barriers for BIM in Europe after reading this research paper.

Implementation of Sampled-Data Supervisory ControlHamid, Abubakr January 2014 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the issues related to the implementation of theoretical timed discrete-event systems (TDES) supervisors. In particular, we examine issues related to implementing TDES as sampled-data (SD) controllers, which were introduced by Wang and Leduc. An SD controller is driven by a periodic clock and sees the system as a series of inputs and outputs. On each clock edge (tick event), it samples its inputs, changes state, and updates its outputs. / This thesis focuses on the issues related to the implementation of theoretical timed discrete-event systems (TDES) supervisors.
We first introduce the sampled-data setting from Wang, and then define the sampled-data properties he identified, including the SD controllability property. We then introduce Wang's formal representation of an SD controller as a Moore synchronous finite state machine (FSM). We then discuss Wang's modular and centralized translation method.
We next introduced new modular results for the SD controllability point 3.1, SD controllability point 3.2, SD controllability point 4, activity loop free and S-singular prohibitable behaviour that allow one to verify the properties using only a portion of the system, instead of having to construct the entire system model. This should allow faster verification times as well as allow larger systems to be verified. We then introduce for the first time algorithms to verify Wang's CS Deterministic and non self-loop ALF properties.
The remainder of the thesis focuses on developing algorithms and software to automatically convert a TDES first into an FSM, and then into a VERILOG module. VERILOG is a hardware description language which allows our FSM to be compiled and implemented on digital logic devices such as an FPGA.
We then tested our method by modelling a simple door locking system as TDES, checking that the system satisfies the required sampled-data properties, and then translating the result into VERILOG. The above algorithms and methods have all been implemented as a part of the graphical DES research tool, DESpot. / Thesis / Master of Computer Science (MCS)

Obraz televizního novináře v amerických televizních seriálech (od Mary Tyler Moore Show po Newsroom) / The image of television journalist in american television series (from Mary Tyler Moore Show to Newsroom)Pavelková, Eva January 2015 (has links)
The objective of this master thesis The image of television journalist in American television series is to unveil personality traits of main characters in five selected American series during five decades (from the beginning of the 1970s to present) by means of combination of interpretative reading and semiotic (visual) analysis, and by that interpret representation of journalists. Subsequently the typologies of journalistic characters by Brian McNair and Joe Saltzman are used to categorize 27 central figures to types or stereorypes. Majority of characters combined more different types but it could be stated that all images of journalists were positive - possibly due to bigger popularity among viewers. Simultaneously it is neccesary to point out that characters across analysed series classified to same categories are not fully identical - characters show enough resemblance for type identification but similarities are outweighed by differences.

Transmutações em Do inferno: aproximações entre romance gráfico e filme / Transmutations in From Hell: similarities between graphic novel and filmAmorim, Naiana Mussato 20 August 2012 (has links)
This work aims to study to homonymous works, From Hell, the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell and the film adaptation directed by Albert and Allen Hughes, so as to develop a media study as well as plot and script analysis, Based on the Media Studies, focusing the theories of Cluver, Moser, Genette and Diniz, among others, we intend to approximate the distance between the corpora in the tension caused their autonomy. Therefore, the analysis seeks to understand the idiosyncrasies of each art s composition and, by the distance between each work, to apprehend their singularities given by the authors. To approach the composition, authors such as Eisner, Cagnin, Barthes and Eisenstein gave support to understand the functioning of both the film and the graphic novel. To analyze and organize the plots, the theory of Barthes guided once again the understanding of the compounding elements of the story like main and complementary events, character description and atmosphere. In addition to this there is also the symbol study, essential to From Hell study, based on Brenda Mallon s reflections. Finally, the understanding of the film and the graphic novel is done by means of two themes gender and sex , followed by Hell aiming to measure the range of each work. Therefore, when we follow the trajectory of the smaller parts up to the main event, we build the understanding of the whole corpus, comparing the synchrony of each work and their form and content.
